Blue Ridge inn´s act of
defiance lasts about 2 hours

USA Today, by Jon Ostendorff

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 10/6/2013 9:22:03 AM

Near MOUNT PISGAH, N.C. — At a spot 5,000 feet above sea level and 20 miles from the nearest town, an innkeeper decided Friday to defy the federal government and reopen his lodge. That stand lasted about two hours as National Park Service rangers blocked the entrances to the privately run Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway after owner Bruce O´Connell decided to reopen his dining room, gift shop and country store at noon Friday for lunch. The federal government had forced the inn, in a leased building on federal land, to shut down at 6 p.m. ET Thursday

Comments:
There has been an inn operating on this land since 1919. Almost one hundred years.

At one time a White House insider said that Obie was fascinated with drone strikes, plotting them like a video game. Do you suppose this is his latest version? "Ok, let´s get this one...and this one...and..." Mooch: "That looks like fun, Buh-rack!"

As usual, dimwitted commenters to USA today say that the Republicans shut down his business. No. This was Obama´s minions being nasty. They decided who and what would be shut down.

Most park service concessionaires have a negative opinion of their landlord. They have to deal with the whims of park managers who typically have no business experience and feel the need to impress on business owners that it´s their way or the highway. They are bullies.

This is only one of many examples of what happens when the federal government is involved in any way (however minor). Now, what would we expect to happen in times of crises as it applies to healthcare once obamacare is fully implemented? This is why it must be stopped from being implemented. Ditto for any other area that the government should not be involved in. We need smaller gov, not more intrusive gov.

It appears that Obama has finally achieved his legacy!

Urban Dictionary:

barrycade

1. A barrier (usually temporary) that exists for no reason.

2. A barrier erected for political reasons.

"Dude, Obama barrycaded the park."

"Hey, let´s put up some barrycades to keep those World War II veterans away from the open-air World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., in order to try and score some cheap political points."

How can these so-called "Rangers" be doing this? Even when I was a prison guard, there were orders I absolutely refused to obey and dared the Management to fire me. Why? Because I knew that they would not because of the media flack and public outrage if I told openly of the illegal or immoral orders they had tried to make me obey. There is such a thing as a conscience! There is such a thing as moral courage! Did the managers furlough all the decent Rangers?

There should be several class action lawsuits fast-tracked through the court system:

Veterans for access to open-air, unfenced memorials.

Lessees who have paid for access to venues where they earn their living and pay their employees.

People who have reservations at the above venues who have been kept from their reserved location, whether it is for a dinner, hotel room or campsite.

Isn´t this a matter of failure to meet contractual obligations??

EVERETT, Wash. — As medical examiners painstakingly piece together the identities and lives of the people killed when a mudslide wiped out a small Washington community, a mystery troubles them. One of the 30 bodies found does not fit with descriptions on the missing persons list, which, as of Thursday included 15 people, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff´s Office. The only clue to the man´s identity is his gold molars, said Heather Oie, operations manager at the Snohomish County Medical Examiner´s Office. He might have been someone who was on the highway or going for a hike.

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday freed wealthy donors to give more money directly to congressional candidates, extending its controversial 2010 Citizens United decision that opened the door for unlimited independent spending on political issues. In a 5-4 decision, the court’s conservative majority struck down Watergate-era aggregate limits that barred political donors from giving more than $123,000 a year in total to candidates running for seats in the House of Representatives or Senate. The court said this limit violated the free-speech rights of the donors, and it was not needed to prevent “corruption” of the political process.

SANTIAGO, Chile -- Chilean President Michelle Bachelet toured northern Chile on Wednesday, inspecting the damage from a magnitude 8.2 earthquake the night before that left six people dead and forced the evacuation of about 900,000 others but which apparently caused less damage than feared. There were scattered fires caused by gas leaks and some structural damage to homes and businesses but apparently little devastation in the vicinity of Pisagua, near the offshore epicenter of the quake.

"I take very seriously the allegations about how the CIA in general and about how I in particular handled the analysis and the talking points," Morell told the House Intelligence Committee, in his first public testimony on the Benghazi attacks. "The ethical code under which intelligence officers carry out their responsibilities calls for total objectivity." But Morell´s own testimony would appear to undercut that

Sources on the ground in Benghazi during the 2012 terror attack are pushing back hard on former CIA acting director Mike Morell´s testimony on Capitol Hill, where he defended his role in shaping the administration´s narrative and claimed politics were not involved. As part of Morell´s testimony on Wednesday, the former acting and deputy CIA director acknowledged that he overruled the guidance of the top CIA officer in Libya at the time. That official told Morell the attack was not an "escalation of protests," but Morell said he had to weigh that against analysts who concluded the opposite. He ultimately went

Big changes could be just down the road for North Carolina drivers. A proposal is in the works that would change the state tax system to charge drivers by the mile, instead of at the gas pump. The proposal would be to charge a half cent per mile for cars, which would generate almost $500 million in annual state revenue. A driver who travelled 15,000 miles in a year would pay about $75. "Basically you pay per the mile. It´s treating transportation as a utility, much like your water and sewer," said Larry Goode, with the Institute of Transportation Research and

Do you think members of Congress are overpaid or underpaid? Most likely you’d go with the former, but Democratic congressman Jim Moran argues it’s actually the latter. In an interview with CQ Roll Call, Moran says, “I think the American people should know that the members of Congress are underpaid.” The House recently took up a bill to freeze members’ paychecks, placing another halt on the annual cost-of-living pay increases they would normally get and keeping annual salary at $174,000. Moran believes that this is the wrong way to go, not necessarily talking about himself in particular, but saying there

The human kindling that makes up the flammable Republican base may soon burst into flames, again. Portions of that excitable cohort are looking — some with fawn-like eyes filled with hurt, others with sparks shooting from eyes narrowed like gun slits — askance at other Republicans urging Jeb Bush to seek the 2016 presidential nomination. A candidacy by Florida’s former governor would be desirable. But if Republicans want to avoid intra-party carnage, they should be very careful about doing what The Post recently reported: “Many of the Republican Party’s most powerful insiders and financiers have begun a behind-the-scenes campaign to draft

At a press conference to push legislation to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) criticized industrialists David and Charles Koch, calling them “shadow billionaires” who use their wealth to “rig our political system.” Reid’s sharp comments come on a day when the Wall Street Journal published a commentary written by Charles Koch, in which he described the brothers’ decision to get involved in politics to preserve the individual freedom and free markets that he said are the pillars of the American republic. “These two men are a pair of shadow billionaires spending

According to a report via BuzzFeed’s Evan McMorris-Santoro, President Barack Obama requested the opportunity to address the nation in prime time on the major broadcast networks on Tuesday night to announce that the Affordable Care Act had reached 7 million enrollees. Those networks did not, however, accommodate the White House’s request. “Three sources familiar with the request confirmed the White House asked for the prime time slot in their effort both to emphasize a bright moment following the challenging roll out and, more important, to try to reintroduce the country to a law that remains unpopular,”
