Some Catholic Priests Risk
Arrest If They Offer Mass on
Military Bases During Shutdown

Some Catholic priests under contract or GS (general schedule) to the military are not allowed to offer Mass or perform weddings, baptisms, and other religious functions on military property during the government shutdown, and if they do, even on a volunteer basis, they risk being arrested, according to the general counsel for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. About 25% of the U.S. military is Catholic, some 275,000 service members, but there are only 234-active-duty priests. To fill the gap, contract or GS priests are brought in. But under the rules of the shutdown, many of those priests cannot

Easy solution ~ the Gub´mnt doesn´t make rules on how the RC or any other church or religious entity conducts itself.

The contract provisions here have more to do with boarding overnight and travel costs than anything else.

I´m sure there are plenty of volunteers who can take care of that part ~ but the good fathers will need to do the appropriate blessings themselves!

A moment of truth for our military is fast approaching: is their first allegiance to the Constitution, or is it to the Emperor? The fate of our republic depends on their choice. The souls of all who shed their blood for liberty are watching.

Obama will be in negative numbers if the shutdown goes until the debt ceiling talks.

He just may set a new low for approval ratings in all of history.

It´s only the sheer stupidity of the lofo mofos that prevents an all out rebellion.

I sure hope we have elections in 2016.

Republicans need to make a stink of this.

No Mass or religious services for our troops.

No football games for troops overseas (how much can accessing the DirectTV satellite cost?)

But the golf courses are open for Obama and Camp David (which he doesn´t use) is ready to go.

All so that congressional Democrats, their aides and a few RINOS can have 75% of their GOLD Obamacare plan paid by the taxpayer as well as all the other goodies they get.

There is a higher power than the incompetent ignoramus at 1600 Penn and the Fools on the Hill. The priests should go ahead and hold their Masses and dare the MPs to arrest them. It would make for great video and would be just the type of publicity the Regime doesn´t want.

If authorities can penalize a priest for invoking Jesus in a general prayer setting (where rules say to be generic to avoid alienating members of any religion), then they can penalize a priest for offering Mass on base after being told not to. Both are unconstitutional as hell, in my view; but the gubm´nt who has done the former is certainly capable of doing the latter.

That said, a priest is supposed to be willing to risk his life to preside at Mass for the Catholic community (even if it´s just one or two other people). And over the years many have paid with their lives in the effort to fulfill that duty. Saint Miguel Augustin Pro was executed by Mexican authorities when he was caught sneaking into the country when the Communist government outlawed the exercise of priestly ministry during the Christeros revolt. (His public execution at the hands of a firing squad was captured on film for all of history.)

So risk arrest? Big deal. Part of the territory.

Father Jerzy Popieluszko, was a skinny, hard-working parish priest, who said the first mass in 1980 in Communist Warsaw at the steel plant for the striking workers of the Solidarity Movement. He became a symbol to the Polish people of someone who tried to fight evil with faith, non-violence and love. Of course, the Polish Government took notice and tried to destroy him and eventually he was beaten to death in 1984. At his funeral 400,000 people came to pay their respects.

I think some of these priests should risk saying mass in the United States during the shutdown. I cannot imagine there is an legitimacy in an order preventing them from acting as priests.

Someone should put together a list of all the insane things that are being imposed in this shutdown which were not imposed during the last shutdown. As despicable as Clinton was, he wasn´t as dastardly, vindictive and sadistic as Obama and his ilk are. Having a list of the differences would show exactly which things are inventions by Obama to exacerbate the situation for political gain.

The Cardinal George of Chicago has said ..."He will leave the world respected. His successor may be jailed. And his successor´s successor may be murdered." So priests and bishops know this is coming. As some have posted, the priests should say the Mass and "suffer" the consequences. This will affect not only the military but parishioners in every Catholic church in this country. It reads like Poland, China, USSR. Prepare yourselves.

The president has no authority to issue any such order, morally or otherwise. When will the Congress, both sides, stand up to stop this usurpation of illegal power? This is a nation founded on Christian principles, and Holy Scripture underwrites our beginning. No pseudo-Christian can change that. Knowing God is with them is as important to our combat troops as their weapons are.

To a Liberal, freedom of religion means freedom from religion.

After all, well-informed people like themselves would freely reject religion if they eally thought about it, but since most people don´t think (in their not-so-humble-opinion) Liberals need to use force untill clearer heads prevail (theirs, of course)

I would say my dear Catholic friends should certainly expect bold statements of support and action coming from ALL the normally-PR savvy American Catholic hierarchy within 24 hours. (cardinal Dolan?).

Precious tiny Mother Theresa boldly lectured America and the Clintons about the great sin of murdering unborn babies while standing just a few feet from the Clintons. This is called Godly leadership. I pray today ´s leaders will not remain silent on this outrage.

#10, dman:

The oath is fealty to the Constitution, not any man, not even to the country. We all know this.

(Un)fortunately, since we haven´t had a real knock-down, drag-out war to weed out the uniformed, careerist bureaucrat-types in the military (and especially the leadership), the progressive mantra of "voting for [or acting in] your own best interests" (a battle-cry promoting corruption if there ever was one - see the current command-interference scandal of the Marine Corps Commandant) is the primary guiding light for almost every member in upper-level leadership roles. Notice how quickly these types take the offensive en mass against anyone, officer or enlisted, who might upset their kingdom-building and/or promotion opportunities by insisting on truth, fealty, and integrity. We are quickly becoming pre-WWII French - e.g., a bunch of legalistic bureaucrats who won´t make a decision or a move without a legalistic fig leaf to prove we cannot be held accountable if things go south.

Thus, my fear is that many in the military will simply follow orders, whether or not they mesh with legality or the Constitution. After all, the government has a great deal of leverage (there´s a good, wholesome mafia term for ya) against our all-volunteer forces - "he who controls the bread and butter controls your life."

It looks like Obama proves this truth because he is getting dangerously close to triumph. Obama and his administration´s actions are an unprecedented assault on freedom and yet, there seems to be no urgency to stop this. Apparently, we have lost the ability to recognize tyranny much less fight it right here in our own country. Our Republican leaders should be passionately outraged about these acts against us. Obama will not let up. He is enjoying this and will continue to escalate them unless stopped. Tyrants never stop of their own accord.

This is very dangerous grounds upon which this Administration´s venal and vindictive POTUS treads. It is all too obvious to everyone that this POTUS is deliberately choosing to hurt people who need not be hurt. Money isn´t the point here; to ban the taking of Communion, under any circumstances, anywhere, by anyone, is not only an infringement of religious rights, it is an affront to God, and He doesn´t care about our government´s shutdown.

But He does care -- a lot -- about those who will place "stumbling blocks" in the paths of those who choose to worship Him.

Obama & Co. have crossed a very dark line.

This may be historic - not because of Barry´s decrees - but because Catholics and Protestants may unite to fight this most offensive, un-Constitutional order by any president in our nation´s history. Will the SCOTUS finally step in and stand up for the Constitution????

To repeat #46: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” ? Edmund Burke

Many of us here are too old to be in the active military, but we are filled with much wisdom, because we have been lucky to live as long as we have. Many of us are well over 65; thus, the "power of the pen" may be just as effective. All of our Founding Fathers were not fighting with muskets, but they gave us the words that most of us have written on our hearts, and those words have led us into battles and inspired us to fight on despite the odds.

May God bless America - may we continue to follow the words written on our hearts.

This abominable president is at the root of all this chaos and power overreach. If Obama and his bunch were given control over everything and everybody in this country we would all be in lockstep, doing whatever he regulates and orders us to do. He set the tone and goals and they are aiding and abetting - big time - as are most in the media.

Those fortunate eastern europeans finally got rid (for the most part) of this kind of leader. Never in my wildest dreams or nightmares did I think we´d be experiencing this kind of control and abuse.

What an unbelievably treacherous time in America with Obama ruling - not leading. It´s difficult to believe the democrats (as a whole) are going along with his ideas and goals. It seems as if our federal government has gone absolutely mad - with a bunch of snarling, angry wolves taking control of and dominion over "we, the sheep."

I don´t understand why he´s doing this. It must be meant as an Alinskyite move to blame the Republicans for making people suffer. But surely even low-information types will catch on. Think of all the Catholics in the military -- won´t they know about this and tell people? But to make sure, the RNC or some more awake group should spend a lot of money on ads telling about Obama´s order to the park service to make life difficult, this order about the priests, and any other outrageous actions. They should make it clear that these things are Obama´s choice and not necessary during a shutdown.

And I´m not just talking about chaplains and the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. I´m also looking directly at the leadership of our military. How long are they going to sit on their hands as they are given one unconstitutional order after another?

Sunday should be proclaimed "Military Religious Freedom Sunday", and every Catholic bishop should show up with his Mass kit at a military base demanding to say Mass...on the parade field off the tailgate of a Hummer, if necessary. This is not about Caesar...this is God´s due.

#20 is right, of course (thanks for the correction). I got a little ahead of myself there, because Miguel Pró is one of my favorite exemplars of self-sacrificial service under the threat of death (along with Maximillian Kolbe and Damien de Vuester -- both of whom are already canonized). And when we have film of him being martyred, waiting for the second confirmed miracle seems like almost a formality.

#56: Tyrant .Obama is pushing to see where we finally say, "Enough!"

Barricades on the Mall was a push. Blocking park sites where they really had no authority [and certainly no rational need, or way, to "close" anything (e.g. Mt. Vernon)] was a push.

Shoving Obama´s Barrycades aside [oh I love that -- "Storm the Barrycades!"] and the guv who opened the state roads was a push back.

Wiring the Barrycades was a re-push.

Seriously -- there is no way whatsoever [like with the IRS´s selective "treatment" of conservative organizations] the White House can claim ignorance of s-o-o-o many affronts.

So the rational can conclude: a. they know, and want it this way; b. they are pushing, pushing, to see how much they can do to us; and c. they just might be hoping for a "confrontation" -- or a real confrontation. Not long Point c might have sounded crazy. Now, denying the possibility of Point c looks crazier by the hour.

So -- when will the first Honor Flight wheelchair veteran be handcuffed? And will the House Member at the Memorial do the right thing and intervene? Physically, if necessary? Well?

OK I´m going to say this again. Given the actions of Obozo and co. over the past 5yrs, there is no way that this country is going to return to the republic that it was intended to be as long as we, the people sit back and just put up with it. We all pray, hope, and wish for a peaceful correction of the course we are on, but it isn´t going to happen. We just keep going further down that same road. So, IMHO, the only cure is to start, and win, another revolution. DC has to be completely cleaned out, some changes be made to the Contitution to prevent that same thing from happening again, and look for any find some good men and women to GOVERN the country. Not rule it. Even at my age, (68) I would gladly joing in the fighting. Otherwise, there is no future for our childre and grandchildren.

Likewise, if a single military priest refuses to conduct Mass tomorrow, he have rendered unto Caesar that which is God´s.

Where is Joe Biden, high Jesuit priest in the Curch Militant? Somehow, noisy Joe is silent. He is the top ranking Catholic in the federal government and he is staying quiet, laying low, to reserve his power and strength to legally legitimize 20 or 30 million Catholic illegals into the corrupt voting pool, when Rubio, McCain and Schumer
try to pull off organizing the newest government union, all these new rules, laws and privileges they secretly pass for their new slave labor pool, the illegals.
Ordering priests not to do mass is right out of the Communist playbook of tyranny.
You don´t have to be Catholic to abhore government interference with religious services. Rmember all the years the government DID NOT interefere with child molestation in The Church? Our government is upside down in debt...going for collapse

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service and other federal agencies awarded about $415,000 in contracts to a license plate-tracking company before Homeland Security leaders dropped a plan for similar work amid privacy complaints. Federal offices such as the Forest Service and the U.S. Air Force´s Air Combat Command chose Livermore, Calif.-based Vigilant Solutions to provide access to license plate databases or tools used to collect plate information, according to government procurement records compiled by Bloomberg. Vigilant, a closely held company, has received such work since 2009. In February, Jeh Johnson, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
