Despite an emergency meeting at the White House, congressional leaders reported no progress late Wednesday on trying to reach a budget deal -- while over on Capitol Hill, tempers were flaring and lawmakers were melting down on the floor of the House. The top four congressional leaders took a stab, during an hour-long White House meeting, at negotiating with President Obama over the impasse. There was no breakthrough. House Speaker John Boehner emerged saying he had a "nice, polite conversation" but complaining that Obama would not budge off his demand that Congress pass a straight budget bill -- one that does not

The longer the repubs. put up bills that fund what we actually need and the dems refuse them the worse they look and harry knows this now. The only way to loose is for the chickens on our side to give up. Stay the course. Their name calling and hissy fits and nasty statements about children with cancer are not earning them new seats in the house or senate. They just look like the do nothing spoiled elitists they are. Do Not Cave. Keep putting up those small bills that fund what Americans need ! No clean cr for obama and his totalitarian dems.
Obama is busy closing private property, such as Mt. Vernon. War Memorials have never been shutdown during 17 previous shutdowns. How about we wrap yellow tape around the White House and tell him to go to Motel 6 ? Any doubt about his hating America has now been eliminated. He is drunk on power, and someone needs to sober him up. I used to think he was ignorant, now I know better, he is stupid.

Obama hasn´t gotten even one thing right for the country on his own. If anything turns out to really benifit Americans, it´s because Barry caught in circumstances beyond his regime´s control or by accident.
Local talk radio station (WMAL) had Lanny Davis on this morning talking about this shutdown and the one(s) back in 1995-6; what is the same, what is different. Of course, Lanny being his usual insufferable self, said it was all Newt Gingrich´s fault; he fell for Clinton´s trap, etc. And like then, the Republicans are losing the PR battle. I don´t think so.
One big difference between now and then is the Internet; smart phones with their cameras, independent bloggers, etc. So the spectacle of the free, open air, 24/7, 365 days accessible World War II Memorial built entirely with private donations on public land being purposefully gated to keep out WWII veterans says a lot about Obama, Reid and their ilk.
Cruz is a tactical and strategic genius. He advocated playing small ball (read mini CR´s) three weeks ago but didn´t want to show too many cards. Zippie is an idiot but thinks he is brilliant because of his sycophants in the media and the WH. Let him keep thinking that - correlation, viz., the last shutdown, is not causation. The WWII Memorial might (or might not) be a tipping point - there will be more if Pubbies don´t lose their spine.
For those of you in Atlanta, I drove by the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area parking lot off Columns Drive this morning. A small parking lot, never attended, for people to put their money in slots and leave their cars - cross the street and walk along the river. Obama´s brown shirts have put huge pine tree logs in place to prevent anyone from parking in the lot. Good grief, how petty can one dictator get?
I heard a great clip on the radio this morning. A reporter asked Congressman Waxman, Dem from CA if he or his staff had read the current 10,500 pages of Obama Care regulations? He tried to ignore it. She asked it again. He said who are you with? She gave the name of her news organization and repeated the question. He ignored the question again. Another reporter shouted it out over the noise. Finally he said, "That is a proganda question and I am not going to answer that."
Our gracious Salon Hostess ran out of Page One space before she could report on the endless rounds of "Did too!" -- "Did not!" heard through the meeting room doors.
#10: Remember also that the deservedly-contemptible [remember to wash hands and run laptop through dishwasher after typing] Lanny Davis is on record saying they could not believe the lies they got away with in the Clinton Administration. Lanny Davis -- if he dies alone in some fleabag somewhere and isn´t discovered for a month, his body will be perfectly intact. But there will be numerous small holes in the wall where the maggots crawled off and gnawed their way through the walls to escape the room.
#15, that was a great question to Henry because most of the odious stuff from that bill came out of an old drawer that belonged to Waxman. This has been his wet dream for many years just waiting for the right time. This proves two things. Henry is up to his eyeballs in this and this reporter knows it. My, my. So all of this time the media never really reported very well on this huge confiscation of America´s freedom. Shame on them.
Obama demanded that Congress pass a budget, however the Senate hasn´t passed one in 5 years. I think AF1,2,3(and do the kids each have one), should be grounded to save tons of money on fuel and maintenance. Also how about closing down the White House and getting those dead beats out of there.
Obama is trying to run this country like a paid Community Organizer in Chi Town. It isn´t working. I think Republicans know by now that if they cave, they are history. I think this process, combined with his diplomatic defeats abroad are messing with his mind.
The democrat´s extremely childish behavior is all too indicative of the monster we, namely RINOS, hath built: By giving them their way for the past five years, about oh everything, this is what we get. It is as if a teenager has been off the chain for five or so years. Then the parents all of a sudden have a day of reckoning, get some resolve, finally implement some controls and just say no. A few smashed dishes later, maybe a sabotaged car or even a burned down house, perhaps some tangible results are gained, albeit at a price.
The democrat´s response of hysterical /maniacal "no" to any other suggestion reminds of what it would have been like to be captured by the Nazis, North Koreans or North Vietnamese and ask them for a favor. Some of the dems might want to go see a shrink after this is all over-they just aren´t right/well.
on the news this am fox is reporting a list ofReps that are ready to give in. The permanent loser partyis in full op mode.
and why should the donks be angry. It is not their money (or maybe it is) and there were 17 gov shut-downs and all but one were when donks controlled Congress. Recall the the donks have controlled cong for 30 out of the last 40 yrs.
It is the greatest cover up of our time ! (1) Starting communist dominated, controlled IRS forced medicine, (2) supposedly "closing down the government" (that actually means giving all these non essential DROID robots paid vacations), (3) putting up ridiculous yellow police tape, like a crime scene, to attempt to prevent a gathering of elderly WWII veterans at the War Memorial, (4) the entire propagandist army of Obama and his TV media Tom Brokaw brainwashers falsely claiming a great registration response .......... all of the above distractions, to cover up Hillary and Obama´s horrifying crime of murder of our men at Benghazi ....... Congress and all the red comrades are all in it together to destroy all the good that is America. The administration propaganda team will go to every extreme to hide the Hillary and Obama stand down crimes of Benghazi, and continuously torture the families of those men who died so violently. Yeah, you can look at all this as a giant cover up, too.
The last shutdown was, for most people, in the twilight of the pre-Internet era.
The media could run horror stories and tear jerkers without fear of contradictory information running elsewhere. Politicians in both parties relied on official narratives dutifully reprinted. It is a very different world now. The government is not the nation and the nation is not planet Earth, which continues to rotate on its axis.
The worst case scenario for statists is occurring: people of all political stripes are asserting or admitting that the shutdown is mostly DC melodrama.
Conservative media is missing a great opportunity by not playing, over and over again, Hillary´s screeching speech about dissent being patriotic. This would highlight the hippocracy of the dems when they call our side terrorists and jihadists for not agreeing with our dear leader.
The only target Cruz is over- is the Republican Party and the conservative movement. Cruz promised over and over all summer , at town halls and on talk radio, that he could get the Democrats in the Senate to sign on to defunding and this would ultimately force Obama to cave. A scenario that was either sheer fantasy or a calculated lie. It was obvious then , as it is now , that he never intended to gather the mandatory Democrat support to defund , he was only interested in running ads against his Republican colleagues. Saying they were supporters of Obamacare. Ads he and Jim DeMint still refuse to stop running. Cruz , with the help of Limbaugh, Palin , Hannity and Levin has orchestrated a defunding mess that will not shut down Obamacare , only the government. The shutdown accomplishes nothing and has played right into Obama´s hands. It has taken the spotlight off the Obamacare rollout, it has emboldened and strengthened Obama and the majority Democrats, weakened Republicans´ hands on the debt ceiling and hurt the cause. For what ? If anyone still thinks that the 54 Senate Democrats , 200 Democrat House members and Obama will ultimately agree to defund Obamacare , please stay away from swamp land salesmen and Nigerian scammers.
"When he´s crying out I just sing that Ghana rondo E l´era del terzo mondo (It´s the age of the Third World) He´s a third world man"
Steely Dan, 1980
This character Obama, this mendacious bad actor on the world stage, was born, brought up, and fed on solely Third World belief systems, and his goal is to bring the preeminent First World nation as low as he can bring it. In time he´ll be the most reviled man in the Free World, and his party, the so-called Democratic Party, will be rare in elective government, as they should be. In the meantine, be prepared to bleed. It´s a part of the plan.
Actually, I believe swamp land salesmen are bastions of credibility compared to obsessive anti-Cruz posters. Ted Cruz has become the de facto leader of conservatives and, along with his like-minded warriors within the movement, has inspired over two million signatures against Obamacare. But, I suppose these are mainly rubes who just don´t realize the political insight possessed by #27 and prefer to deal with Nigerian scammers.
One would think that Dingy Harry was completely insane to state that he and his dims would negotiate only AFTER passing something that he wants. If he gets that, then what is left to negotiate? Does he really think that Republicans can´t see that if that happens he himself will tell them that there in nothing left to talk about. They already passed a law. I just can´t belief that there are enough of outright stupid people to belive in that. Or does Dingy Harry think the the bulk of citizens really are that stupid?
Lots of blame goes both ways, but I can only imagine how the dems´ back rooms on the Hill are buzzing. I just don´t think they can recover from the Monument shutdowns or Cruz´s 20-plus hour info session to the nation.
Beware Ryan, Cantor, and the other Republican traitors in the House. There is already talk of a "Grand Bargain." Watch them sneak amnesty through in a budget/debt limit deal.
I´m sorry, but my old cynic senses are on high alert, and my BS meter is pegged. The irrational intransigence, the high drama, the comments dropped over the past few months about how the House Republicans would get an amnesty bill through by the end of the year, the business interests who want the cheap Mexican labor. It all adds up to a major piece of skullduggery. Cruz messed up the timeline for their treachery, but they´re still going through with it. I hope I´m wrong. I´m not. Grit your teeth. Here it comes.
This is a moment in history. If we don´t stop the liberals(progressives, communists, socialist, etc) now, we never will. Our country is under attack, our way of life, our beliefs, our understanding of freedom. We are about to lose the country I grew up in. Will you fight or not?
The republican liberals in congress are running the show and they care less what the people want. No matter how many times you call and refuse to give $$$$ they will never change. Time for a third party. My guess is only 10 percent of the republicans are liberal but the 10 percent are the rich donors & the libs in congress.
#27 is right, but such voices are lonely. It felt good, I suppose, to believe that Cruz and Lee could pull it off, but most should have realized it could not happen. No matter the enthusiasm, the numbers simply weren´t there and there was no way the Senate Dems were going to suddenly agree with Republican conservatives. The problem, of course, is now what. There was no plan for what was to happen after the stand was made and then failed.
In the criticisms of Ted Cruz, I hear the voices who told us that by nominating RINO Romney we would defeat Obama and restore this country to greatness. How did that work out, hmmm? Romney was lukewarm and people spat him out of their mouths.
George Washington did not win every battle. He probably had a go-along-to-get-along crowd criticizing him at every turn as well. But he held on to his principles and he kept fighting. And eventually he won the war.
Ted Cruz, you keep going. You know what the Founders believed and you believe in it, too. Many of us out here in the heartland are praying for you to be safe and to have great wisdom as you lead this fight. Right makes might, and eventually we will prevail.
What makes anyone think the GOP congress members can stand together to win the issue when the rest of the party can´t do the same in support of their efforts. It´s just not those who are labeled RINO´s who are too dense to to unite. George Washington nearly lost the war when Tories failed to back him and groveled to the British. He was nearly defeated at Brandy wine because he was cut off from the west and supplies thanks to those same Tories who probably wanted security more than freedom. So who are the present day Tories?
There´s a furor at the White House, and they did NOT SEE it coming. Also, Republicans came under attack over the weekend for a well-intended but impolitic tweet observing the 58th anniversary of Rosa Parks´s arrest for defying segregation on a Montgomery, Ala., municipal bus. "Today we remember Rosa Parks´ bold stand and her role in ending racism," read the tweet from the Republican National Committee´s institutional account. "Of course, there´s nothing controversial about celebrating a woman today who played a big role in the American civil-rights movement," writes National Journal´s Matt Berman. "What is bothering some people today, though, is the
Here the liberals go again: trying with all their might to prop up an increasingly unpopular piece of legislation. This time, no less than Robert Reich has attempted to take the "moral" high road and claim that there is a "moral imperative" to ObamaCare. Reich noted that recently he heard a young man express that he would rather pay a penalty than be forced by law to purchase health insurance. According to Reich, the young man asked, "Why should I pay for the sick and the old?" Reich´s answer is telling: "The answer is he has a responsibility to do so,
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the heads of Israel’s intelligence community to look for proof that Iran is violating an interim deal signed with the international community last week over its nuclear program, a British newspaper reported on Sunday. The Israeli spying effort to expose Iranian duplicity represents a direct challenge to US President Barack Obama’s efforts, it said. Mossad, as well as the IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate, have been told to dig up evidence of Iranian duplicity ahead of Obama’s push to win support for the deal in Congress and thus head off legislators’ demands for further sanctions
For nearly 20 years, the secret code to authorize launching U.S. nuclear missiles, and starting World War III, was terrifyingly simple and even noted down on a checklist. From 1962, when John F Kennedy instituted PAL encoding on nuclear weapons, until 1977, the combination to fire the devastating missiles at the height of the Cold War was just 00000000. This was chosen by Strategic Air Command in an effort to make the weapons as quick and as easy to launch as possible, as reported by Today I Found Out. The Permissive Action Link (PAL) is a security device for nuclear weapons that it
The secret back channel of negotiations between Iran and the United States, which led to this month’s interim deal in Geneva on Iran’s rogue nuclear program, has also seen a series of prisoner releases by both sides, which have played a central role in bridging the distance between the two nations, the Times of Israel has been told. In the most dramatic of those releases, the US in April released a top Iranian scientist, Mojtaba Atarodi, who had been arrested in 2011 for attempting to acquire equipment that could be used for Iran’s military-nuclear programs. American and Iranian officials have
As America struggles with high unemployment and record inequality, everyone is offering competing solutions to the problem. In this war of words (and classes), one thing has been repeated so often that many people now regard it as fact. "Rich people create the jobs." Specifically, by starting and directing America´s companies, entrepreneurs and rich investors create the jobs that sustain everyone else. This statement is usually invoked to justify cutting taxes on entrepreneurs and investors. If only we reduce those taxes and regulations, the story goes, entrepreneurs and investors can be incented to build more companies and create more jobs. This argument ignores the fact

BARBARA WALTERS: I know that by now, you both have fairly thick skins. But when you hear your husband being booed, the president, at a recent basketball game, how do you feel? FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA: It´s part of being president of the United States -- WALTERS: So, it doesn´t get to you? MICHELLE OBAMA: It´s part of the job. You know, I don´t really know what more to say, Barbara, except it´s, you know, it´s a hard job. I am fortunate to be living with a man who has a long view of this job. Who understands that in the case of
President Obama said Friday he’s confident that the troubled healthcare rollout won’t be the final word on how his signature legislative achievement is remembered. "I continue to believe and [I´m] absolutely convinced that at the end of the day, people are going to look back at the work we´ve done to make sure that in this country, you don´t go bankrupt when you get sick, that families have that security," the president said in an interview on ABC’s 20/20. "That is going to be a legacy I am extraordinarily proud of." The HealthCare.Gov website went live on Oct. 1, but has been
Mega-donor and Hollywood figure Haim Saban, a longtime Hillary Clinton backer, on Friday said he’d “pitch in with full might” if she launches a likely 2016 campaign, describing a growing consensus that she is President Barack Obama’s “natural successor.” The remarks to Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper came several months after the media tycoon privately commissioned a movie about Clinton upon her departure from the State Department, featuring international figures including Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Obama singing her praises as Secretary of State. “I hope she will run. She would be a wonderful president,” said Saban, who gave $1 million last
Inside Bright Hope Baptist Church, the luminaries of Philadelphia’s black political world gathered for the funeral of former Representative William H. Gray III in July. Dozens of politicians — city, state and federal — packed the pews as former President Bill Clinton offered a stirring eulogy, quoting Scripture and proudly telling the crowd that he was once described as “the only white man in America who knew all the verses to ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing.’ ” But it was the presence and behavior of Hillary Rodham Clinton that most intrigued former Gov. Edward G. Rendell: During a quiet moment, Mrs.
SACRAMENTO — One longtime critic of federal transportation spending once concluded that it would be less expensive for the government to buy every new transit rider a Jaguar XJ8 than it would be to build certain new rail systems. Unfortunately, California officials may not have realized that the idea of buying people new cars wasn’t a serious proposal as much as a way to illustrate a point about excessive spending. The California Air Resources Board is now embarking on a program that would help poor people buy energy-efficient vehicles. In one scenario posed by the agency, a “voucher” might even pay
Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) said on MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation” Wednesday that when Jesus fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish, “he didn’t charge food stamps.” “When Jesus had those five loaves and two fishes, he didn´t charge food stamps. He didn´t ask anybody how much money they had. He fed them because they were hungry, and that´s really where we ought to be,” McDermott said in response to Republican critics of the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). In September, the House approved a plan by Republicans to cut $39 billion in food stamps over the next
The nation’s view of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, colored by the horrific Benghazi assassination of the U.S. ambassador to Libya on her watch, has suddenly turned upside down, with more now holding an unfavorable opinion of the likely 2016 presidential candidate. A new YouGov/Economist poll found Clinton, whose approval ratings have typically been sky high, with an unfavorable rating of 48 percent, more than the 46 percent who have a favorable opinion of her. The YouGov pollsters said that the change in American attitudes toward Clinton "suggests that negative press surrounding the tragic
In the US we are used to abortion advocates claiming that the risk of elective abortion is relatively trivial, and major medical organizations denying any link between abortion and breast cancer. Now a powerful new study from China published last week by Yubei Huang and colleagues suggests otherwise. The article, a meta-analysis pooling 36 studies from 14 provinces in China, showed that abortion increased the risk of breast cancer by 44% with one abortion, and 76% and 89% with two and three abortions. This new article is another example of the recent excellent scholarship on abortion in peer-reviewed journals coming out
MIDDLETOWN, Del.- Remembering the plot of a short story is no longer good enough in teacher Amy Lawson´s fifth-grade classroom. Today´s students are being asked to think more critically. For example, what might a character say in an email to a friend? "It´s hard. But you can handle this," Lawson tells them. Welcome to a classroom using the Common Core State Standards, one of the most politicized and misunderstood changes in education for students and their teachers in kindergarten through high school. In 45 states and the District of Columbia, Lawson and and other teachers are starting to use the standards
Bill Clinton, the cliché goes, was the first black president, no matter his skin color. That being the case, Barack Obama is not the first black president, or the first African-American president, if you prefer, but the first hippie president. Clinton’s southern background and lifestyle were indeed more typically black, just as Obama’s was more typically hippie. And we’re not just talking about the “Choom gang” here, scarfing “Maui Wowie” on the sands of Oahu. We’re talking about all of it, the whole multi-culti-missing-white-mother-vanished-Kenyan-father-anti-imperialist-America-is-always-the-enemy-and-don’t-you-forget-it-nine-yards. And like most hippie culture as I knew and experienced it, it wasn’t about “peace and love.” Not
Gov. Chris Christie’s “bizarre behavior’’ in refusing to say he’ll support a possible GOP challenger to Gov. Cuomo next year could derail his chances to become president, state and national GOP insiders have told The Post. “Christie already has a problem with many Republicans refusing to forgive him because of his embrace of [President] Obama and his socially liberal policies,’’ said a nationally prominent GOP operative. “But this bizarre behavior in suggesting he won’t help a Republican defeat a Democratic governor, and a Cuomo no less, could finish off his chances of becoming his party’s nominee for president in 2016,’’ the
Senior officials in the White House have said that Israel Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu “is desperate and weak,” in reaction to Netanyahu´s remonstrations against the deal struck with Iran over its nuclear weapons program. Israeli television Channel 10 quoted the officials as saying “His pronouncements show a lack of self-confidence,” in an unusually harsh personal attack on Netanyahu. “We are not perturbed by his vocal opposition.”
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
Barack Obama is a man with only one core conviction. He has, as the basic foundation of his otherwise disorganized and uncertain belief system, the irrefutable tenet that the United States, because of its European roots, has been the epitome of oppression and arrogance throughout its history. Therefore, he is able to rationalize the need to say or do anything as the transformation of American society and the end of the pre-eminent status of the United States are his sole objectives. He has, thus, adopted a pre-meditated schizophrenic personality wherein he comports himself as an apologist and appeaser on the
A push by activists to ease the 30-year-old blanket ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men faces a key test this week as a federal panel hears results of the latest research. The findings will be released amid growing pressure from politicians and advocates, including college students, to change the policy. Critics say the ban is a hangover from the early, fear-filled days of AIDS, stigmatizing gay men and ignoring advances in treatment and detection in the decades since. Supporters of the policy say politics, not science, is driving the proposed change, which would heighten the risk of
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
