On Tuesday evening, left-wing Politico ran a headline story encapsulating the theme of the day: “Government closed, Obamacare falters.” That message marked a massive loss for the Obama administration, which has claimed that Obamacare’s implementation could not be delayed, and used that rationale as an excuse to reject the House’s proposal for a one-year delay in favor of a government shutdown. The narrative began to shift early in the morning on Tuesday, when the Drudge Report ran a lead piece on the Obamacare health exchanges coming up with error messages for users across the country. “OBAMACRASH,” Drudge headlined. He followed
The comments section of this article has a number of Obama trolls, which raises question: Will federal shutdown produce more trolls as federal employees sit at home? Or, will these trolls diminish since they are no longer getting paid by taxpayers to produce Obama love notes from their federal offices? As in, "Why should I write disparaging comments on Tea Party, GOP and Bush if Obama isn´t paying me? And forget the ´Obama is god´ notes to the WaPo and NYT. I´ve got a room to paint and chores to run now that I am home for a couple of weeks."
I read an article linked to from Lucianne.com about a journalist who tried to sign up for Obamacare in every state´s Web site. He was 0-51, meaning that there were probably almost zero sign-ups online across the nation today.

I´m with #3. Nobody is sending money in. It´s just a novelty for some to look at the website.
Where obamaCare is going to crash is when younger people (under 40) realize that it´s too expensive for what they get, which is close to nothing. obamCare needs millions of healthy young people to pay for the "pre-conditioned" and elderly. It´s going to crash.
I go through a whole battery of glitches on Internet Explorer every single day and it won´t allow me to download any other browser. They´ve had years and years to work the glitches out of this and it´s still screwed up.
For Obamacare to have worked it should have been set up at a centralized location and the exchanges being tree branches off the main brain. What they´ve done is cobble together the exchanges, based on each states needs, maybe even based on a state being a political ally.IT people can´t figure out what the government really wants because of the number of things Obamacare wants to accomplish right off the bat.
What they really needed were objective consultants from the insurance industry who really know the science of insurance of any kind.Insurance rates are set 100% based on risk assessment.Because Obamacare encompasses so many things it´s impossible to set up the base model to work off of.
I´d love to see them set op a site where people can opt out and pay the fine. That would probably get 20 million hits the first day.
This administration and its king, Obama, will never admit Obamacare is a disaster. They will keep spinning it as success no matter what happens. They are consummate liars so expect more of the same. Baghdad Bob has nothing on them.
This inttial surge in California was only to determine whether or not the callers could receive free or nearly free insurance. How many of them actually signed up and committed to pay after the discovered they would be charged? Gathing the sick and the destitute will not pay the bill which will require millions of healthy young adults paying large premiums. The left wing, liberal media is filling the air with lies and obfuscations about the success of this monster.
So the Obamacare web sites got more traffic than expected!??? You have supposedly 30 million uninsured people who should be climbing on board immediately; plus the people who are shopping for better rates. And you have had years to prepare for it and you can´t handle the load of 2.8 million hits. If this were an on line game they would be out of business today. What a lame excuse.
I heard NPR´s on scene report this morning, from a CA fulfillment office and a Fed center in VA. They interviewed employees, who were ecstatic about Opening Day. No interviews with citizens, though. If you only listen to NPR, you´d think things are just ducky.
All the Obamaphiles better get lots of bottled water ready for all of the talking, spinning, lies they are going to have to spew like auctioneers, for industrial-grade cya. They will set a new example for denial. This ACA could be described as Obama´s Potemkin health insurance, a gigantic albatross around the Muslim, Marxist, Mulatto´s neck.
First day and the only thing delivered by ObamaCare was Bovine Excrement. No matter how the Slobbering Media tries to put a happy face on it; ObamaCare will go down on the weight of its own expectations.
Ill-conceived. Virtually stillborn. Haphazardly raised. Underdeveloped. Immature. Fundamentally transformed into nothing but blunders and lies. 100% worthless!
“Throw this baby out!” That’s a decision every Pro-Choicer ought to be not only more than willing to support, but eager as well. Obamacare. Sooner rather than later, it shall be proven that it was an idea whose time should never have come!
Just like with Syria, we are going through all this to satisfy BO´s EGO! BO´s ego causes him to make ridiculous, over arching statements that push him into a tight corner. Then he is forced to accept a humiliating "solution" to get him out of the corner. The liberals and media try to spin it but everyone knows it was a BO FAIL!
A reasonable person should have, long ago, realized that the exchanges would NEVER work in time. The nature of the problems are massive and classic issues of technology overreach. BO and the liberals could have easily allowed themselves to be "forced" into a delay of implementation that would have spared them the embarrassment of this public failure. But BO could not follow that path. His EGO would not allow it.
I would be astonished if they will be able to whip the program into usable shape anytime soon. So in a few weeks it may become the obvious thing for the Dems to "allow" themselves, kicking and screaming all the way, to be saved from their Frankenstein´s monster by accepting a year delay. Then they will try to spin the outcome as they did with Syria but everyone will know it is the Dems fault.
Too bad we all have to suffer to cover for BO vanity but if BOCare goes down in flames it is worth it.
This closed memorial is bitterly symbolic. When obamacare cuts to medicare hit (after the 2014 election) then these Greatest Generation heroes, who served their country and kept us free, will be subjected to all kinds of barricades to the care they earned and deserve. obamacare may kill more veterans than any battle during WW2. May God have mercy on this country and the ´little people´ like our veterans that this administration discount so callously.
Another caption for casket picture: "WHOOPS....I mean you won´t NEED pallbearers anymore because our MANDATORY Free Funeral Act includes your ashes just being thrown into a giant community ossuary - a huge underground container that will hold tons of cremains. Of course your gov´t officials have exempted themselves from this Act."
We all know Obamacare was/is going to mess up America. Plain and simple, it is worse that socialized medicine. It will break the bank. Kiss even adequate healthcare goodbye. Meanwhile most government people will be exempt. Who represents who in todays world.
Meanwhile, Bob Goodlatte, House Republican from Virginia´s 6th District is working on an amnesty bill for illegal criminals. This is an example of what supposedly friendly political hacks do when they think you aren´t paying attention.
It also appears that that he has approval from House Leadership. Ask yourself this. Is it the position of the Republican Party to create up to 20 million new voters for the Democrats. It is bad enough that Dianne Feinstein has asked that border security allow illegals to freely enter the country unhindered. I guess she can now void any law that irritates her.
This country is going to hell in a hand basket. Whatever that means.
Leftists love to legislate and demagogue. But they´re hopeless executives. They´re incompetent at managing and executing the results of their legislation, other than to buy future votes by hiring enormous numbers of their lofo supporters to lard up the federal employment and retirement rolls. Even if Obamacare were sensible legislation, the progressives couldn´t implement it.
I saw on the news that the NYS exchange had 20M "hits". It was not stated how many of these were the same people trying to access the site multiple times. Could be 20 people each trying 1 million times. When the number of hits in a day starts to exceed the total population of a State, one starts to get an inkling of the MSM propaganda involved.
"A post from the Obamacare website page. "I actually made it through this morning at 80 A.M. I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually I chose tier 2 "Silver Plan" and my monthly premiums came out to $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!! There is NO POSSIBLE way that I can afford this so I "opt-out" and chose to continue along with no insurance. I received an email tonight at 50 P.M. informing me that my fine would be $4,037 and could be attached to my yearly income tax return. Then you make it to the "REPERCUSSIONS PORTION" for "non-payment" of yearly fine. First, your drivers license will be suspended until paid, and if you go 24 consecutive months with "Non-Payment" and you happen to be a home owner, you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home. You can agree to give your bank information so that they can easy "Automatically withdraw" your "penalties" weekly, bi-weekly or monthly! This by no means is "Free" or even "Affordable"
Cannot wait until the "pre-existing conditions" dweebs find out what their Obamacare is gonna´ cost. Wait for the screems and the echo´s and more screems. One thing...the "lo/fo´s" CANNOT blaim the Republicans for this one....lol
All you need to do to understand this is look at the “Englewood Botanic Garden Project” that Obama did in 2000 in Chicago. Pathetic. The grant was investigated, too.
Here´s how the Sun-Times described it.
"Obama vowed to “work tirelessly” to raise $1.1 million to help Smith’s organization turn the City of Chicago-owned lot into an oasis of trees and paths. But Obama lost the congressional race, no more money was raised, and today the garden site is a mess of weeds, chunks of concrete and garbage. The only noticeable improvement is a gazebo."
I sent a contractor friend a photo of the gazebo, asking him if he could tell me about it. He emailed me back, insistent I "not use these people to build anything!" and outlined the problems. Said it was a kit from Home Depot, cost $2500. The "improvement" cost $2500 out of $1.1 million.
This is Obama. He´s a con man. Nothing he does will ever work, that´s not the point. The money is.
As a woman with young children in the 70s, because Jimmy Carter was our president, I used to lie awake at night worrying about what he would do next - as he was such a dreadful leader and president.
And now, with Obama, I lie awake at night worrying about this destructive, hateful, arrogant man´s outrageous circle of thugs, his decisions, actions, words, intentions and long-term goals. I feel helpless, frustrated and angry.... very angry. It´s of some comfort knowing I have a lot of company.
dittos, #33. The logical conclusion from this disaster should be: "the Dems forced this abomination on us; therefore, we need to throw the bums out of office!" But thanks to our educational system and the lamestream media, we have become a nation of illogical thinkers.
Cut to the chase. Time to start quoting the evil of all the communists, Fabians. Keynesians, fascists, Marxists, socialists ....... like Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Obama, Jaret, Puglosi, Schumer, Reid, Feinstein, Pelley, Letterman, Jerry Brown and Sawyers ..... the whole bunch.
SECAUCUS, N.J. -- Forget about setting up those kegs or buffet tables in the parking lot before this season´s Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. There will be no tailgating, according to the game´s committee CEO, Al Kelly. "You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in your car," Kelly said. "And provided you´re in the boundaries of a single parking space, you´ll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However, you´re not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you´re not going to be able to take out
One of Congress‘ staunchest critics of Obamacare released a report Monday that cheers on legal challenges to the overhaul and says the White House overstepped its authority by delaying aspects of the law. Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas Republican who helped engineer a lengthy government funding stalemate earlier this year in a bid to block money for the new health care law, said many aspects of the Affordable Care Act are “constitutionally or statutorily suspect” and that the entire law should be repealed. While a repeal is unlikely so long as Democrats control the Senate and White House, Mr. Cruz said
The nation’s new health-care law says insurers can’t turn anyone away, even people who are sick. But some companies, patient advocates say, have found a way to discourage the chronically ill from enrolling in their plans: offer drug coverage too skimpy for those with expensive conditions. Some plans sold on the online insurance exchanges, for instance, don’t cover key medications for HIV, or they require patients to pay as much as 50 percent of the cost per prescription in co-insurance — sometimes more than $1,000 a month. “The fear is that they are putting discriminatory plan designs into place to
There’s nothing like a communal flight with the current president of the United States and his predecessor to make the press miss the days of a communicative commander in chief. George W. and Laura Bush joined the Obamas on Air Force One en route to Johannesburg, South Africa, for a Nelson Mandela memorial service. Hillary Clinton was also on board, with Bill and Chelsea coming to the service from a Clinton Global Initiative event in Rio. The Obamas have stayed in their cabin for the flight, according to the White House pool report from the refueling stop in Senegal, while
The raft of stories over the last week, the latest being today’s piece in Business Insider, about Democratic Party infighting has nicely illustrated something conservatives have known for a while. Complaints over the last few years about the GOP being pulled to the right by conservatives were not about liberals’ desire to meet in the middle and compromise, no matter how much they might decry the supposed extremist drift of the right. What they wanted was their very own Tea Party. It was the same with Occupy Wall Street: the pseudoanarchist gatherings were far more violent than Tea Party protests
The federal government announced today that it has sold the last of its General Motors stock, about 31.1 million shares or 2 percent of the company, ultimately losing about $10.5 billion on the original investment. The government once owned 912 million shares, or 60.8 percent of GM, which it received in return for the $49.5 billion bailout given to the auto manufacturer during the financial crisis of 2008–09. GM’s stock rose about 1.8 percent, or 73 cents, on the news today. GM’s North American president, Mark Reuss, said that he expects GM sales, especially of pickup trucks, to rise once
House and Senate negotiators were putting the finishing touches Sunday on what would be the first successful budget accord since 2011, when the battle over a soaring national debt first paralyzed Washington. The deal expected to be sealed this week on Capitol Hill would not significantly reduce the debt, now $17.3 trillion and rising. It would not close corporate tax loopholes or reform expensive health-care and retirement programs. It would not even fully replace sharp spending cuts known as the sequester, the negotiators’ primary target. After more than two years of constant crisis, the emerging agreement amounts to little more
The sequester, no matter how imperfect a policy, is arguably the only victory for fiscal conservatives in a very long time. Their victory is also president Obama’s biggest defeat (outside of the self-inflicted disastrous Obamacare rollout). It is also another opportunity to remind the American people that the alarmist predictions that we were all subjected to about the devastating impact sequestration would have on our economy didn’t materialize. Yet, in a new move, Republicans are once again considering caving to Democrats and getting rid of the spending cuts. This morning’s Wall Street Journal has the following. Still, officials close to
President Obama’s repeated use of presidential powers is causing a tough problem — his own supporters now expect him to use it to achieve everything they want. From immigration to the minimum wage, congressional Democrats and liberal activists this week urged Mr. Obama to declare an end run around Capitol Hill, assert executive authority and make as much progress as he can on the expansive agenda he laid out for his second term. A day after Mr. Obama denounced income inequality, progressive lawmakers said he should take the lead by issuing an executive order requiring all federal contractors to pay
Three crises, one president, many bewildered friends. The first crisis, barely noticed here, is Ukraine’s sudden turn away from Europe and back to the Russian embrace. After years of negotiations for a major trading agreement with the European Union, Ukraine succumbed to characteristically blunt and brutal economic threats from Russia and abruptly walked away. Ukraine is instead considering joining the Moscow-centered Customs Union with Russia’s fellow dictatorships Belarus and Kazakhstan. This is no trivial matter. Ukraine is not just the largest European country, it’s the linchpin for Vladimir Putin’s dream of a renewed imperial Russia, hegemonic in its neighborhood and
Entering his sophomore year at Occidental College, Barack Obama sought a political movement to match his personal awakening, which he signaled to friends and family at the time by reclaiming his African first name. Barry became Barack that year. He had read Du Bois, Fanon, Malcolm X — an array of authors writing about the black struggle for liberation in his country and in others shaking off the legacy of colonial rule around the world. That is where he looked for — and found — a figure and a cause to channel his rising political enthusiasm: Nelson Mandela, then imprisoned
I´m generally for more disclosure in campaign finance, but the best argument against requiring full disclosure by groups engaged in political speech is that politicians sometimes retaliate against their critics. Sen. Elizabeth Warren inadvertently made that very argument this week. As told by Ben White at Politico, a group called "Third Way" criticized Warren. Warren apparently suspected that Third Way´s criticism of her was funded by banks. So she wrote a letter to bank CEOs demanding they disclose which political groups they´re funding. Warren sits on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. She´s basically telling the entities
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a last minute decision not to participate in a memorial service for the late South African President Nelson Mandela, despite having notified the South African government that he would attend the event. The decision was made in light of the high transportation costs resulting from the short notice of the trip and the security required for the prime minister in Johannesburg. The Prime Minister’s Office found that the trip would have cost roughly 7 million shekels ($2.4 million) – 2.8 million shekels for chartering a private El Al plane and a further 3.2 million shekels for
President Obama, former president George W. Bush and their wives departed Washington Monday morning on Air Force One on their way to a memorial service in South Africa for Nelson Mandela. The president and first lady Michelle Obama are being accompanied by Mr. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the flight to Johannesburg. A four-hour memorial service will be held on Tuesday for South Africa’s first black president. Mr. Mandela, the anti-apartheid revolutionary, died on Thursday at age 95. Former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea are traveling separately to South Africa. Former President
President Obama will make remarks on Nelson Mandela´s legacy during a memorial service Tuesday for the late South African freedom fighter, officials said Monday. "We do expect President Obama to speak as part of the program," said Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications. The president and first lady Michelle Obama departed Monday for Johannesburg, where a Mandela memorial service will be held in a soccer stadium. Obama, who will also spend time with the Mandela family, is not scheduled to hold any bilateral meetings with foreign leaders while in South Africa, Rhodes said. Rhodes also said the
All three networks on Monday morning highlighted the appearance of the Obamas at the Kennedy Center Honors, but only ABC fawned over "fashion win" of First Lady. Lara Spencer enthused that " one of the stars of the show was Michelle Obama." An excited Spencer explained that Mrs. Obama looked "absolutely ravishing in a flowing teal gown as she accompanied President Obama." The co-host declared, "Another big fashion win for the First Lady. CBS This Morning offered a full report on the various performers who were honored, but co-anchor Charlie Rose avoided ABC´s superlatives.
