The Other Dropout Problem
in Urban Schools

American Thinker, by Taleeb Starkes

Across America, many urban school districts are on life support, and in some places, the plug is ready to be pulled. This dire reality is routinely discussed, but missing from the conversation is the ever-growing dropout rate in urban schools. No, not the student dropout rate, but that of teachers. The teachers´ dropout rate is a result of burnout after their ambition is crushed by a climate of cultural adversity. In other words, their ´save the kids´ optimism dissolved into a ´run from the kids´ reality. These teachers anticipated teaching life-changing lessons to the kids but ended up learning life-changing

I am not surprised!! Had several friends who lost their jobs during the tech recession in 2001. They couldn´t find computer jobs, so they went back to school and got degrees to teach math on the jr high and high school level. They described the lose/lose situations they faced. After two years, all of them left the teaching profession and eventually found computer programming jobs again.

The Russians use an effective solution:

When a student becomes disruptive, the parent (normally the father) spends the next day sitting beside the student in class.

We had a family friend- her daughter grew up with our oldest son. The daughter always wanted to be a teacher. She went to college same time as our oldest not same college. We even attended her party when she achieved her state certificate and was hired, of all places, at the very high school she and our kids graduated from. In her first semester, she was physically assaulted by a student who would not stop interrupting her class- the Principal did nothing -gave the offending little monster a "severe" talking to. she wore the black eye for weeks! Then her tires were slashed. Then her much loved VW convertible top was slashed- It was her first new car. She shut up in class. told me, she would turn to the chalk board and lecture- never to look at her students, never to discipline thier yelling and screeching in class again.- she was terrified. She came over to our house one day- smiling at first, then- she broke down in tears- she actually had resigned her teaching job. It was honestly her life long dream. We cried with her. She just could not take the strain- she almost made it through her first. and only, semester. She went to work for a credit union and today she is the mananger of it. True story. But, it happened 1989!!

What struck me about this articles was the `kindergarten` teacher who thought she should have had a teacher`s aid, and that she couldn`t control 21 kids, who hadn`t attended preschool. Preschool? Are you serious? Kindergarten IS preschool!

As for public schools in general, they are a lost cause. The breakdown of the traditional American family is complete. The Left has won that battle rather handily. Common Core is the final nail in the one world govn coffin.

A clever way would be to allow real full time professionals or retired professionals to teach .. Butttt no l you need a UNION card.. Education courses.. My spousal unit volunteered to teach NYC public schools . Only has a ph´d and taught college.. But union made it Soo onerous .. Fughettttabout it ..

There is no advantage to teaching in a low performing school. The culture, the kids are all set for failure and one teacher may be able to reach a few of the kids that are desperate to learn, but not the majority that are there because they have to be. And then we want to hold that teacher to a higher standard? Who would take on such a position? It doesn´t take very long before even the starriest-eyed do-gooder to be smacked with reality.

Charters and vouchers are the only hope.

The feminist left may be crazy, but it is powerful. Witness what happened in San Francisco at a fast-growing company that is a web-based hosting service for software development named GitHub. (hat tip: Instapundit). Via readwrite.com: You might not immediately notice the latest change to come to GitHub unless you’re standing in its San Francisco headquarters and looking down at the floor. GitHub has removed the centerpiece of its faux Oval Office waiting room, a circular mat emblazoned with the phrase, “United Meritocracy of GitHub.”

Progressives pride themselves on their highly evolved psyches, their awe-inspiring good intentions and their admirable sense of right and wrong. Indeed, so sure are they that they are right, disagreement can only be an insult. Opposition triggers instant hatred, in a chorus chanted so loudly that nothing said, no evidence presented, will be heard or considered. Indeed, in order to cement a belief, whatever the left decides to believe magically becomes new science, granted an exemption from any sort of scientific process because the leftist has declared that a consensus of leftists makes something scientific. Belief alone is the sole

When we remember the Jewish children thrown alive into ditches by the Nazis and then think about the little girls outside Walmart selling cookies, it seems an offense to decency to suggest any comparison between the Bund Deutsche Madel (League of German Girls, or BDM) and the Girl Scouts. Nevertheless, both Nazism and post-1960s American feminism (neo-feminism in this essay) envision exclusionary, utopian socialist societies. Both indoctrinate girls from a young age to advance their visions. And there are parallels in structure, activities, and ethos. Changes to the Girl Scout Law reveal the core of the shifts from individually focused, morally

Ever since President Obama was elected in 2008, his administration has taken on the appearance of an “imperial presidency” while Congress has acted as a tableau of figureheads. Americans need look no further than Obama’s executive actions concerning the delay in the ObamaCare mandates, the recess appointments, and his changes in the immigration laws. President Obama had no qualms in his recent State of the Union address in declaring that he will use the power of the pen and will sidestep Congress whenever and wherever possible. Though the Obama presidency has years to go, he has already initiated his legacy project. It’s called My Brother’s Keeper and attempts to help “at risk” young men of color – those prone to crime, mayhem, drug addiction, and fathering illegitimate children. Clearly a worthy cause, and it has already attracted $150 million in private support. The goal also seems reasonable, since unruly young men (regardless of color) have long troubled society and cures abound thanks to eons of experience. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Obama’s putative cure is a modern-day Progressive nightmare. It will fail while

We have been so absorbed by the cavalcade of government incompetence and individual hurt produced by the rollout of ObamaCare that it is easy to forget the tragedy-in-waiting should this federal healthcare takeover stay in place: the death panel, also known as the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB). This is the group of political appointees designed to allow the federal government to use a combination of medical and social criteria to determine the healthcare an individual receives. Or, to put it as bluntly as Sarah Palin did, to determine who lives and who dies. Why am I thinking about that now?

Emanuel is often called the “the architect of ObamaCare.” Although no one person put together the Rube Goldberg contraption of a law, Emanuel was certainly a key player.
