JOSE DIAZ-BALART, TELEMUNDO: The Affordable Care Act takes effect next month, The latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows Americans oppose it, believing it will produce damaging results. Fifty-two percent believe the law will raise their health care costs. Is everybody wrong? PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Yes, they are.### OBAMA: The problem we have is that over the last four years billions of dollars have been spent misinforming people about what this law is about. All of the horror stories that were talked about have not come true. It is going to be a good deal
true..all those horror stories have not come true yet.. ..ask the family of the little 11 year old who was in need of a lung..how close did that girl came to "some will live, and some will die!" horror story. Its a good deal for the moozies...look at all the places they will have to pick from to live after the old people are refused health care and die...
This is a republic. By definition, the electorate cannot be wrong, ever. However, as in any form of government, the people in the government can be wrong. Obama either does not understand the essential fundamentals of government or, which is probably the case, he understands them but must override them temporarily until he obtains the tyranny which is his goal.
So if its so good, why don´t congress members and staffers use it? Why are the unions asking for exemptions? Why does McDonalds want an out? Shouldn´t all these folks lead by example, especially congress so they can tell us how great it is? And how better to uncover any little flaws that need fixing than by being a real user?
The Act is a good deal? And that is why so many employers are seeking exemptions from the Act? And that is why premiums continue to rise? Why 7 of 8 new jobs created are part time and do not fall under the Act? Really if this Act is such a good deal, why are employers seeking exemptions, insurers raising premiums, and employees unable to find full time jobs with benefits? Make the case!
"A Good Deal" for the Liar-in-Chief´s SOCIALIST LEGACY. A MAJORITY of Americans are against ObamaCare, but "The Man Who Is Never Wrong" knows what´s best for us by virtue of his community organizing background and the advice of Czar Sebelius. If he did not look upon his "reign" as a Kingship, he might realize that he is supposed to understand that he is the peoples´ representative. But, if you are King, the people are puny little serfs to be managed and controlled by your superior intellect.
If it is such a f------ good deal then EVERYONE AND I MEAN EVERYONE gets in on this wonderful opportunity for inferior health care. obama, justice roberts, congress, union members - NO ONE gets a waiver. If it is good for the goose it is good for the gander.
If 0bama thinks 0bamacare is great deal, why is his family exempt from this awful healthcare. Why has congress exempted themselves and their staff from having to use 0bamacare. 0bama should be forced to use his own healthcare; he would not stand for it. Like 0bama is all for public schools, and he readily promotes public school, yet, he sends his girls to a $40,000 a year private school. Is anyone really listening to this man?
If its such a good deal, where are all the Democrat Congressmen trying to sponsor a budget item to fund it? Why are they sliding it into a Continuing Resolution? Why is Obama threatening to shut down government unless the House funds it?
Good deal, huh? Got a letter recently from my employer. Spousal unit will be set free from my insurance as of 1/1/15. Kaiser estimator website says he´ll have to pay about $350 a month for 0bamacare. and who knows what he´ll get for that premium. Currently under employer it´s $72 a month. He´s a very healthy 55 year old. Now that´s what I call a good deal. NOT.
A great deal, just like everybody driving around in little green cars with plugs sticking out the front and cheap electrical power from the solar panels and windmills that we bought. Oh, and don´t forget about all those highways and bridges that the union people fixed in 2009 beside all of those hideous orange and green signs.
This boy is not only a delusional liar but he´s terribly mathematics-challenged.
Does he really think no one has read this law? I bet he´s never even read it. He only wanted the power that came with it and left the details to the lobbyists and evil democrats.
The facts cannot be disputed that this law is going to hurt and kill many, many people. Already people´s hours have been cut, and employers are not hiring full time. Our kids will not realize what full-time work is unless this law is totally repealed. We will be taxed up the wazoo and the wait to see a doctor will be phenomenal. It cannot be stated harshly enough how bad this law is.
There´s a furor at the White House, and they did NOT SEE it coming. Also, Republicans came under attack over the weekend for a well-intended but impolitic tweet observing the 58th anniversary of Rosa Parks´s arrest for defying segregation on a Montgomery, Ala., municipal bus. "Today we remember Rosa Parks´ bold stand and her role in ending racism," read the tweet from the Republican National Committee´s institutional account. "Of course, there´s nothing controversial about celebrating a woman today who played a big role in the American civil-rights movement," writes National Journal´s Matt Berman. "What is bothering some people today, though, is the
Here the liberals go again: trying with all their might to prop up an increasingly unpopular piece of legislation. This time, no less than Robert Reich has attempted to take the "moral" high road and claim that there is a "moral imperative" to ObamaCare. Reich noted that recently he heard a young man express that he would rather pay a penalty than be forced by law to purchase health insurance. According to Reich, the young man asked, "Why should I pay for the sick and the old?" Reich´s answer is telling: "The answer is he has a responsibility to do so,
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the heads of Israel’s intelligence community to look for proof that Iran is violating an interim deal signed with the international community last week over its nuclear program, a British newspaper reported on Sunday. The Israeli spying effort to expose Iranian duplicity represents a direct challenge to US President Barack Obama’s efforts, it said. Mossad, as well as the IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate, have been told to dig up evidence of Iranian duplicity ahead of Obama’s push to win support for the deal in Congress and thus head off legislators’ demands for further sanctions
For nearly 20 years, the secret code to authorize launching U.S. nuclear missiles, and starting World War III, was terrifyingly simple and even noted down on a checklist. From 1962, when John F Kennedy instituted PAL encoding on nuclear weapons, until 1977, the combination to fire the devastating missiles at the height of the Cold War was just 00000000. This was chosen by Strategic Air Command in an effort to make the weapons as quick and as easy to launch as possible, as reported by Today I Found Out. The Permissive Action Link (PAL) is a security device for nuclear weapons that it
The secret back channel of negotiations between Iran and the United States, which led to this month’s interim deal in Geneva on Iran’s rogue nuclear program, has also seen a series of prisoner releases by both sides, which have played a central role in bridging the distance between the two nations, the Times of Israel has been told. In the most dramatic of those releases, the US in April released a top Iranian scientist, Mojtaba Atarodi, who had been arrested in 2011 for attempting to acquire equipment that could be used for Iran’s military-nuclear programs. American and Iranian officials have
As America struggles with high unemployment and record inequality, everyone is offering competing solutions to the problem. In this war of words (and classes), one thing has been repeated so often that many people now regard it as fact. "Rich people create the jobs." Specifically, by starting and directing America´s companies, entrepreneurs and rich investors create the jobs that sustain everyone else. This statement is usually invoked to justify cutting taxes on entrepreneurs and investors. If only we reduce those taxes and regulations, the story goes, entrepreneurs and investors can be incented to build more companies and create more jobs. This argument ignores the fact
The U.S. released a top Iranian scientist Mojtaba Atarodi in April as part of the dealings with Iran in Geneva recently, the Times of Israel reported. BARBARA WALTERS: I know that by now, you both have fairly thick skins. But when you hear your husband being booed, the president, at a recent basketball game, how do you feel? FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA: It´s part of being president of the United States -- WALTERS: So, it doesn´t get to you? MICHELLE OBAMA: It´s part of the job. You know, I don´t really know what more to say, Barbara, except it´s, you know, it´s a hard job. I am fortunate to be living with a man who has a long view of this job. Who understands that in the case of
President Obama said Friday he’s confident that the troubled healthcare rollout won’t be the final word on how his signature legislative achievement is remembered. "I continue to believe and [I´m] absolutely convinced that at the end of the day, people are going to look back at the work we´ve done to make sure that in this country, you don´t go bankrupt when you get sick, that families have that security," the president said in an interview on ABC’s 20/20. "That is going to be a legacy I am extraordinarily proud of." The HealthCare.Gov website went live on Oct. 1, but has been
Mega-donor and Hollywood figure Haim Saban, a longtime Hillary Clinton backer, on Friday said he’d “pitch in with full might” if she launches a likely 2016 campaign, describing a growing consensus that she is President Barack Obama’s “natural successor.” The remarks to Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper came several months after the media tycoon privately commissioned a movie about Clinton upon her departure from the State Department, featuring international figures including Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Obama singing her praises as Secretary of State. “I hope she will run. She would be a wonderful president,” said Saban, who gave $1 million last
Inside Bright Hope Baptist Church, the luminaries of Philadelphia’s black political world gathered for the funeral of former Representative William H. Gray III in July. Dozens of politicians — city, state and federal — packed the pews as former President Bill Clinton offered a stirring eulogy, quoting Scripture and proudly telling the crowd that he was once described as “the only white man in America who knew all the verses to ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing.’ ” But it was the presence and behavior of Hillary Rodham Clinton that most intrigued former Gov. Edward G. Rendell: During a quiet moment, Mrs.
SACRAMENTO — One longtime critic of federal transportation spending once concluded that it would be less expensive for the government to buy every new transit rider a Jaguar XJ8 than it would be to build certain new rail systems. Unfortunately, California officials may not have realized that the idea of buying people new cars wasn’t a serious proposal as much as a way to illustrate a point about excessive spending. The California Air Resources Board is now embarking on a program that would help poor people buy energy-efficient vehicles. In one scenario posed by the agency, a “voucher” might even pay
Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) said on MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation” Wednesday that when Jesus fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish, “he didn’t charge food stamps.” “When Jesus had those five loaves and two fishes, he didn´t charge food stamps. He didn´t ask anybody how much money they had. He fed them because they were hungry, and that´s really where we ought to be,” McDermott said in response to Republican critics of the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). In September, the House approved a plan by Republicans to cut $39 billion in food stamps over the next
The nation’s view of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, colored by the horrific Benghazi assassination of the U.S. ambassador to Libya on her watch, has suddenly turned upside down, with more now holding an unfavorable opinion of the likely 2016 presidential candidate. A new YouGov/Economist poll found Clinton, whose approval ratings have typically been sky high, with an unfavorable rating of 48 percent, more than the 46 percent who have a favorable opinion of her. The YouGov pollsters said that the change in American attitudes toward Clinton "suggests that negative press surrounding the tragic
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Bill Clinton, the cliché goes, was the first black president, no matter his skin color. That being the case, Barack Obama is not the first black president, or the first African-American president, if you prefer, but the first hippie president. Clinton’s southern background and lifestyle were indeed more typically black, just as Obama’s was more typically hippie. And we’re not just talking about the “Choom gang” here, scarfing “Maui Wowie” on the sands of Oahu. We’re talking about all of it, the whole multi-culti-missing-white-mother-vanished-Kenyan-father-anti-imperialist-America-is-always-the-enemy-and-don’t-you-forget-it-nine-yards. And like most hippie culture as I knew and experienced it, it wasn’t about “peace and love.” Not
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
CNN host wondered out loud on his show this evening whether the physically unfit Chris Christie could follow the "perfect physical specimen" Barack Obama into the White House: "After the perfect Barack Obama, who´s a perfect physical specimen to many people´s eyes, does it matter?" Morgan asked his guest. "Or is actually somebody very different, someone who´s much more of a regular kind of guy who likes cheeseburgers and beer, but appears to be a straight talker, somebody perhaps more of a straight talker than it appears Barack Obama turned out to be?"
Nobody could accuse the press of ignoring the fiasco-on-a-server that is HealthCare.gov. The Obamacare website’s woes are dominating coverage on the network news, the cable talk shows, the blogs and, of course, high-octane websites like POLITICO. But did the press do a good job of covering the Affordable Care Act before the health care exchanges went online—sort of—on Oct. 1? Were we adequately warned of the troubles that were to come? And now that HealthCare.gov’s problems are headline news, is the coverage of it any better? Sure, one can find a few examples of one news outlet or another warning of impending
MSNBC´s Chris Matthews will interview President Barack Obama this Thursday, the network announced Tuesday. The interview is part of Matthews´ "Hardball College Tour," and will take place at American University in Washington, D.C. According to a news release from MSNBC, Matthews, along with university students, will "discuss a variety of topics with the president including voter suppression, healthcare, the decline of confidence in the government and the overall political dysfunction in Washington." On Monday our colleagues Carrie Budoff Brown and Jonathan Allen reported that the White House is launching a coordinated campaign to return attention to why the Affordable Care Act
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
