PINE BLUFF, Ark.- A 107-year old Pine Bluff man died Saturday after a shootout with officers and S.W.A.T. members. The Pine Bluff Police Dept. released the following information about the incident on Saturday evening. "On September 7, 2013, at approximately 4:25 p.m., Officers of the Pine Bluff Police Department responded to a disturbance at 1411 W. 16th. [Snip] Shortly afterwards, a S.W.A.T. entry team, inside the residence, breached the door to the bedroom and threw a distraction device into the bedroom. Isadore then began to fire on the entry team and the entry team engaged Isadore, killing him."

Comments:
Just watching 107 years of decay of our country just drove him over the limit?

They couldn´t wait him out? He´d have to go to the bathroom or get hungry sooner or later. Did they really have to kill him? We´re they in mortal danger for their lives?
There´s no common sense any more...

I know he had a firearm and shot at the police, but in my opinion excessive force was used on 107 year old man. Why couldn´t they just cut power, water, etc and wait it out.

Police all over this country have become para- military organizations and routinely use excessive force like tasers on children and 80 year olds.

Last year the local SWAT team was called in and responded with an armored personnel carrier. Turned out the 75 year old lady, who was resisting eviction, was armed with a Daisy BB gun.

Yes I know most cops are the good guys, but there is a fair share of bullys wearing a blue uniform.

Terrible result, sleep gas should have been used. Killing a centurion is a discredit on that police force.

I have to say that you could probably eliminate 80% of the SWAT teams in this country and it wouldn´t affect the effectiveness of the police one bit.

Since 9/11 the police have colluded with and been funded by Homeland Security and now think they are an offshoot of the military instead of civilian peacekeepers. If they can´t subdue a 107 year old holed up in a bedroom with a handgun and had to call in a flipping SWAT team to kill him for Pete´s sake proves how truely inept and barbaric they have become.

Incredibly poor judgement. What was the rush? Was the SWAT team´s favorite football team playing today?
The scene supervisor who made to call to gas him and rush him should be busted back to meter reader.

I am usually pretty agressive when the police deal wih really tough bad guys.
The entire USA has gotten carried away with SWAT and Tactical police teams. They train for this stuff , so when the chance comes they love to go and "get the bad guys".
Not only do they kill people they put themselves at risk also. Is it worth a life, to not simply surround people like this with barricades, cut off their food, water and electricity, play loud Rap music and wait them out?

You have GOT to be kidding me! He pointed a gun at people in the house, fired through the door (!) at cops, fired out the window in a neighborhood at cops when they tried less than lethal gas and you ding the COPS?
BTW there is no "sleep gas" there is industrial strength trank gas like the Russians used in the opera terrorist attack. It killed half of the people in the building. Turn off the TV once and a while!

Read that headline again. It takes a SWAT team to deal with a 107-year old? I don´t care if he was the most physically fit and mentally sharpest 107-year old on the planet, armed to the teeth, HE WAS 107 YEARS OLD. Use some common sense and compassion. The police in this country are out of control. The militarization of the police is taking us to a very bad place.

Global temperatures are warmer than at any time in at least 4,000 years, scientists reported Thursday, and over the coming decades are likely to surpass levels not seen on the planet since before the last ice age. Previous research had extended back roughly 1,500 years, and suggested that the rapid temperature spike of the past century, believed to be a consequence of human activity, exceeded any warming episode during those years.

CAIRO -- Islamists approved a draft constitution for Egypt early Friday without the participation of liberal and Christian members, seeking to pre-empt a court ruling that could dissolve their panel with a rushed, marathon vote that further inflames the conflict between the opposition and President Mohammed Morsi. The vote by the constituent assembly advanced a charter with an Islamist bent that rights experts say could give Muslim clerics oversight over legislation and bring restrictions on freedom of speech,

I cannot provide you with a set of timelines or complete details about the exchange until our state receives clear, binding rules from your department. PHOENIX — Ending a day that cast a glaring national spotlight on Arizona, Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, vetoed a bill on Wednesday that would have given business owners the right to refuse service to gay men, lesbians and other people on religious grounds. Her action came amid mounting pressure from Arizona business leaders, who said the bill would be a financial disaster for the state and would harm its reputation. Prominent members of the Republican establishment, including Mitt Romney and Gov. Rick Scott of Florida, also sided with the bill’s opponents, who argued that the measure would have allowed people

But in private, rumors persist that the former Secretary of State may not even be capable of making it to Iowa and New Hampshire. Clinton, these skeptics often say, will not run for president again because of health concerns. These ubiquitous rumors of her health have been fueled in part by the supermarket tabloids. The “greatest buried treasure ever unearthed in the United States” is about to be hit by the tax collector. According to Kathleen Pender, a columnist at the San Francisco Chronicle, the couple who found in cans buried on their property more than 1,400 rare gold coins worth more than $10 million will probably owe close to half of that sum in federal and state income tax, whether or not they sell the coins. A chilling video of Maryland police silencing an innocent student who was recording the arrests of two other people has civil libertarians outraged. The arrests were made at night on the streets of Towson, Maryland. A University of Maryland-Baltimore County student who witnessed the arrests decided to record them using his cell phone. The student, 21-year-old Sergio Gutierrez, was soon approached by officers who objected — wrongly — to his actions. Gutierrez repeatedly told the officers that he knew he had the right to film them, but the cops were prepared to use any excuse to shut him down. First they told
