If it Wasn´t Syria it Would

It is very possible that the president will not obtain a join authorization to bomb Syria; if he chooses to go ahead and attack anyway, Obama will incite a constitutional crisis—the first time in history that a president has decided to go to war against the declared wishes of Congress. The public and the courts will adjudicate the legality of that act, and it would be contentious. So the corner that Obama has painted himself into is now inescapable. Defying Congress will put the country into a Watergate/Monicagate mess. Not doing anything will confirm the administration’s impotence and only enhance

This is a great summary of the incompetence of these B team players who are now playing in the big game for the national championship. Turns out they have not been practicing at all, because they never dreamed it would be up to them. They had just been criticizing the A team and the coach while eating junk and smoking.

My favorite part was "He came into the world to save the world, but the world rejected him."

FTA:After five years of this, the world caught on, and sees juvenile and narcissistic petulance in lieu of statesmanship—and unfortunately a sinister Putin takes great delight

Note that Putin waited until Obama was safely re-elected to come down on him like a hammer. It´s going to be like 1979 and Jimmy Carter for the next 3 years.

"If the congressional vote is, as I hope, no, Obama should quietly ... (lots of suggestions)"

A narcissist such as BO CANNOT be quiet. His self declaration of greatness is all he really is. Asking him to practice leadership and statesmanlike behavior is absurd. Not once in his presidency´s challenges has BO shown ANY inclination to be anything else but what has gotten him into so much trouble. It has become clear he is not capable of personal revelation or growth.

We are stuck with the child king for another 3 years. Hopefully the world will still be around when he is gone.

"He came into the world to save the world, but the world rejected him" -- posters are aware, of course, of VDH´s allusion?

John 3:17, in the King James Version: "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved"; and, more colloquially, in the New International Version: "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

One Savior, rejected by far too many. And one pseudo-Messiah, receiving his long overdue comeuppance.

What´s the old train robber saying? "He´s gonna get us killed".

If there was ever a time for thoughtful people like Victor to join forces with those
truly gutsy people of intelligence, this is the time. It is past time to re-expose the badly forged birth document, to expose this
felonious crime for what it, in fact, is.
If it is found he is not who he claims to be
is not born in the USA, and doctored these critical documents, then, not being president, he cannot be impeached! He can be arrested for treason. Let´s get him out of here, in disgrace, quickly, and move on.
The big question is, why have so many good people chosen to ignore this vital question?
Victor, too? The birth certificate crime is about to burst out in the news. There will be no stopping of the truth this time.

Contributing to this whole mess is the transparent summer of fun spent by the President. He vacationed and golfed all summer long, and did so with as little concern as to appearance as imaginable.

Putin, Iran and Assad have weighed and measured Obama and have found him wanting, to say the least.

Even now, Putin supports the upcoming report to the UN that the gas attack is a fraud (see Must Reads list). Obama has nobody really inside Syria to inspect the site, while Putin has full access. This UN report is going to humiliate Obama in front of the whole world. Go Putin I say.

The old movie Advance to the Rear was a funny in 1964. Little did we know that it would be obama´s foreign policy plan. Thank you VDH for summing up our world status predicament. The danger of having someone who believes his own press rather thank acknowledging the truth that he has no clue as to what to do as leader of the currently free world.VDH´s idea of Sit down and shut up would have worked but is it too late now and what chance that the man with such large ears will ever listen to anything but the sound of his own voice either bragging or whining and blaming the world.

Doing something small, with or without congressional approval, will be looked upon as a cynical waste of human lives to restore Obama’s credibility, the sort of craven, immoral political act that a younger Obama made a career out of mocking.

Nope. Sorry VDH, it won´t be looked upon that way. EVERY bit of the media, education, and Hollywood propaganda machine will declare victory for him and that will be that. Unfortunately, everything and everyone else, especially the GOP is completely irrelevant and will be rendered racists(we conservatives included). The lie will simply be told until it is believed. That´s how and why the man is president, remember?

After five years of this, the world caught on, and sees juvenile and narcissistic petulance in lieu of statesmanship

Oh for Pete´s sake, VDH, you´re confusing the present United States and world with 30 years ago. NO ONE other than conservatives has caught on and they never will, no matter what the president does. Just because it´s obvious to us what you´re saying, the rest of the world is happily clueless and is only getting "cluelesser" every day in every way. Plus, the world doesn´t want to fight because they think it´s a bad idea. They don´t want to fight because they´re cowards. Otherwise lots of the Middle East would be a glass parking lot.

Obama is like a Hollywood set street scene. Ostensibly real and purposeful but in fact false facade buildings and scripted activity to maintain an illusion. And our hero, the star, reading his script.
But America and the world --- and even his fans --- have finally realized it´s all a show, and not a really good one, at that.

And the once fawning reviews are turning scathing. He´s already finished. He just doesn´t know it yet.

Why is there the constant assumption that Obama might go ahead without Congresses approval? That would take more nerve than he has, and Jarrett and Axelrod would never let him do so.

It is truly unforgivable what the Democrats and their minions have done to our country. We are further cursed by spineless Republicans.

Hanson advises Obama to :

"back out of the bombing mode, more quietly continue the belated work of promoting a pro-Western resistance to Assad, mend fences with allies most quietly, and prepare very carefully (but without the bombast) for a real crisis on the near horizon that will need the public, the Congress, our allies, and the president’s full attention and response."

"Back out" "quietly" "work" "mend fences" "prepare very carefully" "full attention" "response"

How do any of these words apply to Obama?

In other words, there´s not a chance in Hell that Obie will act this way.

Defying Congress will put the country into a Watergate/Monicagate mess.

Why? The media will spin, weave and cover; and the Republicans will huff, puff and blow into the wind.

As much as I like VDH, it´s as though he does not recognize that the game has changed. There would be no genuine impeachment threat without the full support of the American electorate. And they are the same people who put this man in office . . . twice.

I´m not saying there would be no consequences at all, but we blew past Watergate/Monicagate long ago.

#20, #24, and #36, VDH (or headline writer) used wasn´t correctly. The subjective mood to which you are referring (If it weren´t Syria) would have been incorrect, in this instance, because it would say that this Syria situation is just a hypothetical situation or something contrary to fact.

I´m sure we all wish that this mess was "contrary to fact" or "hypothetical"; however, it is very much a reality.

To use the subjunctive mood, "If it weren´t Syria", would have been correct if this issue was just a figment of someone´s imagination. Remember subjunctive mood is hypothetical or contrary to fact. For example:
Subjunctive mood: "If I were a first-grade teacher, I would make every Friday an ice- cream cone day." I am not really a first-grade teacher, but I am describing a hypothetical situation that might occur if I were one.
Indicative mood:"When I was a first-grade teacher, we had ice-cream cone day every Friday." In this sentence, I am stating that I really was a first-grade teacher and I really did have Friday ice-cream cone day.

Friday ice-cream cone day is not the usual thing first-grade teachers do, but when I really was a first-grade teacher in Hawaii, the room mothers did do neat things for the classroom.

I really appreciate having a brief grammar discussion. Language is very important and our young minds have some real gaps in English grammar - yes, I also was an English teacher and revel when I get a substitute teaching job in the subject. I also teach diagramming sentences when given the opportunity.

Fears that high-speed traders have been rigging the U.S. stock market went mainstream last week thanks to allegations in a book by financial author Michael Lewis, but there may be a more serious threat to investors: the increasing amount of trading that happens outside of exchanges. Some former regulators and academics say so much trading is now happening away from exchanges that publicly quoted prices for stocks on exchanges may no longer properly reflect where the market is. And this problem could cost investors far more money than any shenanigans related to high frequency trading. When the average investor, or even

It’s good Gov. Cuomo understands New York has a problem with cigarette smuggling. Too bad he has yet to figure out what’s really driving the problem of illegal smokes: our high tobacco taxes.Just days after a key report found New York has the highest percentage of illegal cigarettes of any state, the governor announced the creation of a new “strike force” meant to crack down.Teams from 13 state, local and federal agencies, he said, are joining to stop “the influx of counterfeit and untaxed tobacco products into New York” and nab smugglers who “evade the law and rob the state

After his health-care law surpassed the low-ball enrollment target of 7 million, President Obama staged a Rose Garden rally and zinged doubters: “Armageddon has not arrived.” At least he did not declare: “Mission Accomplished.”The country is years from knowing whether Obama’s overhaul of the health-care system fulfills the promise of delivering universal coverage. While large numbers of Americans have found the program very advantageous, including people who were formerly uninsured, many others have been forced to change plans or change doctors — contrary to Obama’s repeated promises.Obama tacitly admits the unintended consequences every time he waives a deadline or mandate in

A triumphant President Barack Obama declared Tuesday his signature medical insurance overhaul a success, saying it has made America´s health care system ´a lot better´ in a Rose Garden press conference. But buried in the 7.1 million enrollments he announced in a heavily staged appearance is a more unsettling reality. Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night.

The author of the Twilight of Abundance, David Archibald, sent an email a few days ago, saying “there is a whole new world coming.” Archibald, who’s an Australian, warns in his book that the world is running out of food, energy and security. Where he differs from Malthus, however, is in arguing that the shortages are the consequence of policy, rather than the inherent limitations of the universe. The world is doing everything it can to run in the opposite direction of abundance because we think we have too much. The West dreads warmer weather, even though warmer weather might

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote in her forthcoming book that she was “hurt” and “angry” by 2012 reporting on her fraudulent claim to Native American heritage. “What really threw me, though, were the constant attacks from the other side,” Warren wrote in her book “A Fighting Chance.” “I would almost persuade myself that I was starting to get the hang of full-throttle campaigning and then — bam! Out of left field, the state Republican Party, or the Brown campaign, or some blogger, would launch a rocket at me,” Warren wrote, adding, ”I was stunned by the attacks.” This reporter (blogger?) reported extensively

WASHINGTON — Former President Jimmy Carter joined fellow Nobel laureates Wednesday in opposing Keystone XL, insisting that approving the pipeline would trigger “more climate upheaval” around the globe. In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.

Less than 16 hours after Chelsea Clinton announced she was pregnant, a lot of major news outlets started staring into the crystal ball of Chelsea’s womb, wondering what this currently floating zygotic multicellular being meant for the prospects of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, which is also a floating, zygotic, multicellular being. Their answer: The immaculately conceived Clinton child could mean everything. And no, it’s not just the fact that having a grandchild could be personally fulfilling to Hillary and Bill (mazel tov, by the way), or that a cute baby would be a sweet cherry on top of Hillary’s already
