Family Income Not A Factor
As Students Eat Free

Associated Press, by Bridget Murphy

BOSTON — Some students toted lunchboxes to the first day of school in Boston this week, but district administrators are expecting that could become a more unusual sight as parents learn about a federal program that is now providing all public school students in the city with free breakfast and lunch. The nation´s oldest school system has joined a program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that has spread to 10 states and the District of Columbia that offers students two free meals every school day, whether or not their families can afford them.

So I am paying for meals for students in various states and the administrators to run the program regardless of their parents status. Personally I am against these programs. Why should I pay for meals for any student. Parents should care for their kids and not have the option for gov to pay for this and buy stuff they want. If they can´t afford their children then they should ´t have them.

Something I have wondered about: if a child qualifies for a free lunch would it be safe to assume that their parent(s) are on welfare and/or food stamps? If so why are we paying for the same meal twice? If the parent is receiving food stamps then part of that money should go for their child´s meal. Just my thought.

#4 has a point. You can bet that the vast majority of those parents are receiving food stamps with which it was intended that they purchase breakfast and lunch foods for their children. What we have here is double dipping on the taxpayers.

When the parents don´t have to use their food stamps to purchase food for their children, they can sell their food stamp benefits for 50 cents on the dollar, or take the food and sell it back for half price to unscrupulous store owners who then re-sell it to other people.

It would be interesting to see how many wimpy Republicans went along to get along with the "caring" liberal Democrats to facilitate this program, scared to death that if they protested that the liberal Democrats would play the race card and call them out as being racists.

There will never be true equality in public schools until the day when all students can wear the same fashionable outfits, the freshest Air Jordans, the best haircuts, the clearest skin, surgically enhanced facial and body features, etc. And imagine the shame when some kids are dropped off in a car more than 5 years old; the inequities of our system are too terrible to contemplate.

The purpose of free school food is to keep parents voting democrat and to teach their children that the govn is their personal restaurant.

Everything is free - until it`s time for you to pay for it.

FTA: "We know that calm stomachs means calm students who are ready to learn in classrooms"

Why not just give them some sedatives?

The only free meals should be coming from private charities. It is not a function of government to feed people.

This whole thing makes me sick. Parents should be jailed for not taking care of their kids. But everyone knows that is NOT the case -- this is simply the government fostering dependency under the pretense of need. In fact, they have now thrown off the pretense and just trying to make everyone dependent.

They gradually keep moving up the ladder buying votes until they just have to give it to everyone as they are the last votes to buy. Most of them are lying about their income to qualify anyway. And can you deny a kid lunch who is supposed to pay when 3 of 4 are getting lunch free? And we´ve destroyed any feeling of obligation to pay. And we´ve destroyed any shame of not providing for your children.

There are many things that liberalism destroys; little by little; bit by bit. In just one govt program it has destroyed all of this. But the ignorant keep voting for democrats as their family and their values are destroyed.

So there really is such a thing as a free lunch - and a free breakfast, too!

Say what one will, there is no denying that liberals have a magic touch, a kind of Midas-like power to make anything they touch free.

But the blurring of boundaries marches on. Our Federal family is extending its reach into more and more aspects of our lives.

I suppose our Federal family, on the whole, means well enough. The problem is that it, our Federal family, seems to think most Americans are dopes who can´t tie their shoes by themselves. That a subpopulation of American dopes, slackers, uneducables and unemployables exists cannot, alas, be denied. These people need help, whatever that might consist of. But to treat ALL Americans as they were such incompetents is to define deviance down and to encourage those who are competent to become or at least appear incompetent.

Children whose parents are genuinely unable to provide for their basic needs such as food should be removed from their homes and rearer in Federal family orphanages. For if their parents really cannot or will not feed them, and if they are really going hungry as a result, other deficiencies and harmful influences are bound to be present as well. They are neglected and abused children. Society has the right and obligation and right to remove them from incompetent parents and raise them properly.

One suspects that the case is not quite as bad as that, however. Many of these supposedly hungry children are obese, as are their parents. They seem to possess many of the amenities of life. There is no indication that a significant number of them are truly in want. Many seem to be getting free stuff, not because they are in dire need of it, but because it is free.

ROME - Pope Francis washed the feet of 12 disabled and elderly people Thursday - women and non-Catholics among them - in a pre-Easter ritual designed to show his willingness to serve others like a "slave." Francis´ decision in 2013 to perform the Holy Thursday ritual on women and Muslim inmates at a juvenile detention center helped define his rule-breaking papacy just two weeks after his election. It riled traditionalist Catholics, who pointed to the Vatican´s own regulations that the ritual be performed only on men since Jesus´ 12 apostles were men.

In Detroit´s unfolding saga, the only innocent victims are city residents. So if there is any case for a Motown bailout, it is to make the city more livable for them. Just two weeks ago, Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr had been threatening to put a buzzsaw to the city´s $3.5 billion unfunded pension liabilities to lop off savings to “invest” in city services.
