Barack Obama is heading for a
humiliating defeat over Syria:
this will be a massive blow

Telegraph [UK], by Nile Gardiner

Politico has an eye-opening piece today revealing the extent to which the White House is staring defeat in the face over Syria. According to the influential Washington-based publication, President Obama doesn’t have the votes in the House of Representatives to secure a win, with large-scale opposition among Republicans, and lukewarm backing among Democrats: If the House voted today on a resolution to attack Syria, President Barack Obama would lose--and lose big. That’s the private assessment of House Republican and Democratic lawmakers and aides who are closely involved in the process. If the Senate passes a use-of-force resolution next week--which is

I don´t believe he will realize that HE was defeated. His mind is so contorted, and his handlers are so adept at insulating him from reality and conditioning him, that he will never realize that his agenda is being rejected, not his skin color. He appears too fragile to handle the present situation. I wonder how they will get around his public appearances and let him retire to his upstairs oval office and live out his next three years?

Americans need to make it clear to Congress that we want no part in the civil war in Syria. That is not to say that we don´t have empathy for the Syrian people because Americans have a history of opposing genocide. However, there have been many examples of people being massacred by their government or factions inside their countries and yet, we did not intervene militarily. Our presence will only further outrage the unhinged barbarian hordes around the world. If it is, as Obama says, clear that the Assad regime used chemical weapons, why isn´t the international community on board? Could it be because they want our feckless boy king to fail big time on the world´s stage? Obama is an international joke and if he gets his way he will also get his comeuppance. It will be a high price for this country to pay for one man´s hubris.

Couldn´t agree with you more. I even called and left messages for Senator´s Boxer and Feinstein imploring them to reconsider their intent to authorize. Feinstein admitted with obvious concern in a Fox News report that her calls are ´´heavily against´´ authorization here in California.

The news that Piers Morgan’s eponymous prime-time CNN talk show Piers Morgan Tonight has been canned has not, it would be fair to say, been greeted with an outpouring of anguish. The former Mirror editor neatly dissects opinion. Some people despise him. And the rest really despise him. [Snip] On the surface it seems that Morgan fits neatly into the category of people we love to hate. But I don’t think that´s quite right. He fits into a different category: people we feel obliged to hate. It’s tempting to look at the antipathy directed at Piers Morgan as simply

Russia has stepped up its rhetoric against Ukraine´s new Western-leaning leadership as tensions rise over the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych. Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev said interim authorities in Kiev had conducted an "armed mutiny". And the Russian foreign ministry said dissenters in mainly Russian-speaking regions faced suppression. Earlier, Ukraine´s interim interior minister said an arrest warrant had been issued for Mr Yanukovych. MPs voted to remove Mr Yanukovych on Saturday. His whereabouts are unknown but he was reported to have been in the Crimean peninsula on Sunday. Russia, angered at the loss of its political ally, has already recalled

The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) has stepped up its surveillance of senior German government officials since being ordered by Barack Obama to halt its spying on Chancellor Angela Merkel, Bild am Sonntag paper reported on Sunday. Revelations last year about mass U.S. surveillance in Germany, in particular of Merkel´s mobile phone, shocked Germans and sparked the most serious dispute between the transatlantic allies in a decade. Bild am Sonntag said its information stemmed from a high-ranking NSA employee in Germany and that those being spied on included Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, a close confidant of Merkel.

The crisis in Ukraine is a reminder of how volatile and dangerous the world can be. Scores of protesters have been shot and killed. Deals have been struck and ignored; the opposition has seized control of the capital Kiev, and secured the release from prison of Yulia Tymoshenko but the president yesterday denounced this as a coup and promised to remain in office. Whatever happens over the next few days, the country remains perilously torn between the Western half that looks towards Europe and the Easterners who look towards Mother Russia. Such troubles are certainly not limited to Ukraine.
