Labor Day Lies
American Spectator, by Betsy McCaughey

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 9/4/2013 6:11:11 AM

President Obama used his weekly Saturday radio address to mark the 131st anniversary of Labor Day. He swore his “highest priority” is to “reverse forces that have conspired — for decades — against American workers.” Yakety yak. Don’t believe that demagoguery. The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data show that workers— especially low-wage workers — are losing ground under Obama. After four and a half years of the Obama presidency, an unprecedented number of Americans have given up looking for work, wages are stagnating, low wage earners are suffering most, and the U.S. is fast becoming a nation of part-time workers.

Today’s Washington Post features an article by Steven Mufson and Juliet Eilperin headlined, “The biggest lease holder in Canada’s oil sands isn’t Exxon Mobil or Chevron. It’s the Koch brothers.” The article was based on a newly-issued two-page report by the far-left International Forum on Globalization. The Post reported: You might expect the biggest lease owner in Canada’s oil sands, or tar sands, to be one of the international oil giants, like Exxon Mobil or Royal Dutch Shell. But that isn’t the case. The biggest lease holder in the northern Alberta oil sands is a subsidiary of Koch Industries, the privately-owned

Harry Reid lets Obama, Eric

Nobody was surprised when Attorney General Eric Holder decided the special prosecutor requested by Sen. Ted Cruz to investigate the IRS scandal isn´t needed. Why? Because Holder and his boss in the Oval Office refuse to make the same mistake that led to Richard Nixon´s undoing in the Watergate scandal. Nixon allowed his attorney general to name a special prosecutor to investigate Watergate, confident that his Justice Department loyalists could contain any ensuing damage. But Nixon miscalculated and it ended disastrously for him with the infamous Saturday Night Massacre. Nixon fired special prosecutor Archibald Cox, thus precipitating resignations from Attorney

Another day, another unwelcome poll for the White House. Pew reports that Hispanic support for Obamacare has lurched downwards from 60-plus percent in September 2013 to 47 percent. That matters a lot, because it possibly means there’s less chance that the GOP’s campaign against Obamacare will prompt the large Hispanic turnout that President Barack Obama needs in November to keep Sen. Harry Reid in charge of the Senate. So far, Democrats have expected Latinos’ support for Obamacare will help them vote Democratic in November. But the poll showing tepid support for Obamacare might force Obama to spend more time and money pushing Obamacare up

American Medical Association: Obamacare

The American Medical Association is protesting an Obamacare provision it argues will leave doctors with the bill for up to two months of unpaid care. The provision requires insurers to allow patients with federally-subsidized health insurance plans a 90-day grace period to pay their premiums before canceling the coverage. Insurers are on the hook for the first 30 days of care, if the customer never pays up, but doctors will be stuck without payment for any services between 30 and 90 days, until the coverage is canceled. The American Medical Association was a strong supporter of Obamacare. “If a patient

By the time the second World Trade Center tower collapsed on Sept. 11, 2001, the whole world was watching it. We may assume that Vladimir Putin was watching. Mr. Putin, a quick calculator of political realities, would see that someone was going to get hit for this, and hit hard. He was right of course. The Bush presidency became a war presidency that day, and it pounded and pursued the Islamic fundamentalists of al Qaeda without let-up or apology. During that time, it was reported that Vladimir Putin, a former KGB officer in East Germany, deeply regretted the fall of the Soviet

Oh by the way, while Washington is debating whether enrollment in Obamacare is terrible or just awful, the Washington Examiner brings to our attention a February 2014 cost report by eHealthInsurance that reveals the premiums for private health insurance policies (those outside of Obamacare) have risen by 39 to 56 percent for individual and family plans. And The Hill’s Elise Viebeck writes this morning that “Health industry officials say Obamacare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration.” So Obamacare has resulted in higher costs, limited plans, restricted doctor options, a reduction

WASHINGTON -- The crisis over Crimea is more than a dispute over whether the strategic Black Sea peninsula should be considered Russian or Ukrainian. At its root is a deeper issue: Russia´s simmering anger over its treatment by the West since the 1991 breakup of the Soviet Union. Russia´s biggest grievance has been the absorption into the NATO alliance not only of former Soviet allies, such as Poland and Romania, but also three republics that were part of the Soviet Union: Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The last straw was a European Union move to draw Ukraine closer to the West through

In recent weeks, I´ve talked to several Washington politicos close to Bill and Hillary Clinton, and when I´ve asked if they will be joining Hillary´s presidential machine, should she run, I´ve received a variant of this (understandably) not-for-citation reply: If Mark Penn is involved, no f-ing way. Penn is famous—or infamous—for being the chief strategist for Hillary Clinton´s 2008 presidential campaign of inevitability that turned into a colossal failure. That effort was marked by hubris, lousy messaging, poor strategic planning, and legendary internal tensions—including back-biting, leaks, and fierce inside politics—that many within the politerati blamed, fairly or not, on Penn.

With New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stalled by the “Bridgegate” affair, former Florida Gov. First lady Michelle Obama, her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, and her mother touched down Thursday in China for what’s being touted as a weeklong feel-good tourist event, amid increasing murmurs back home about U.S. taxpayers having to foot the bill. Mrs. Obama is supposed to use her visit for soft diplomacy only, and shy from the more controversial topics that plague U.S.-China relations, namely human rights and economics. No reporters accompanied the family on the trip. “The nature of her visit is really quite

Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. The two men have campaigned for each other, with Patrick acting as a surrogate for Obama nationally during the 2012 presidential race. Patrick has said clearly that he intends to return to the private sector when his second term as governor is up at the end of the year and will not run for president in 2016. Black students are more likely to be suspended from U.S. public schools — even as tiny preschoolers. The racial disparities in American education, from access to high-level classes and experienced teachers to discipline, were highlighted in a report released Friday by the Education Department´s civil rights arm. The suspensions — and disparities — begin at the earliest grades. Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said. Six percent of the nation´s districts with preschools reported suspending at
