Target Assad
Wall Street Journal, by Bret Stephens

Original Article

Posted By:Desert Fox, 8/26/2013 7:56:05 PM

Should President Obama decide to order a military strike against Syria, his main order of business must be to kill Bashar Assad. Also, Bashar´s brother and principal henchman, Maher. Also, everyone else in the Assad family with a claim on political power. Also, all of the political symbols of the Assad family´s power, including all of their official or unofficial residences. The use of chemical weapons against one´s own citizens plumbs depths of barbarity matched in recent history only by Saddam Hussein. A civilized world cannot tolerate it. It must demonstrate that the penalty for it will be acutely personal

hmm, quite bloodthirsty ~ Bret probably ought to see a counselor about this.

At the moment there´s no evidence that Assad launched a poison gas attack on people in the suburbs of the same city where he and his clan hold sway.

What Bret probably doesn´t understand is that the Alawites in Syria are a ruling minority. They are also the protectors of the Christians and other religious minorities.

The Sunni moslems are engaged in a war to extirpate the Alawites from their homeland, and, BTW, to exterminate the Christians.

Or, maybe Bret does understand all that and he´s an AlQaida sympathizer.

Hope NSA´s got a tap on his phones.

This is where Obama´s lack of diplomacy really fails us and the whole world.

How can any country support chemical attacks ? They can´t, and it would be revealing to see what coalitions might support action against those who engage in those attacks.

Where is the UN ? Where are the UK and other allies ?

We are seeing ships deployed and action without the involvement of our own Congress.

I knew the Democrats were all hypocrites but Barry is apparently going to act like a Cowboy after he has already soured our relationship with Putin.

My opinion is that we have elected an idiot and that´s a bad thing, but I don´t want to die for it.

Don´t agree. We lost the moral high ground when we would not call evil by its name. We have been fighting a theo-political philosophy that we can´t even name. By doing so, we have only emboldened them. We had to so limit our scope of reference to direct atrocities that were committed by a rag tag group of terrorists who hi-jacked a peaceful religion instead of acknowledging the fact that their philosophy permeates the entire Muslim world. It is their call to arms.

Muslims have created violence and chaos to weaken us and then pull us into a real war with Russia and China. Don´t be stupid, Obama. This is a set up. The United States has never been so vulnerable. It is the perfect storm for our enemies. We have lost our moral compass. Our economy is in the toilet. Our country is bitterly divided. Our militarily continues to be weakened. Principled leadership is non-existent.

Like another article states today, our government says that they intercepted Syrian Army messages about initiating the gas attack. Why is it that they didn´t lead off with this so called information, instead of spitting into the wind for weeks on time. One lie follows another.

I for one don´t believe any information coming from the muddiest and most incompetent Administration ever. They aren´t to be trusted, and going up against Russia, Syria and China because Obama wants to prop up the Muslim Brotherhood is insane.

It´s time for this inept person to be impeached and removed from office. He actually thinks he´s royalty and as far as I can see, he is a prime example of the Peter Principle. One more thing, Assad has a far better looking and smarter first lady than we do. Another thought... give up on trying to start a Race War.

George W. Bush had to go to the UN and Congress to get authority to invade Iraq. Obama insisted on that when he was a Senator. Now, he is calling individual Congressmen informing them that he intends to do something.

Incidentally, why do people still call for impeachment? I would have thought that by now they would have realized that Obama has the Senate.

Yeah, kill Assad. And then what? That´s the big question, isn´t it? And no one in DC has an answer.

No doubt that zippy´s intention is to let the MB come in and take over, but that might not work any better for him in Syria than it did in Egypt.

NO... Obama´s USA cannot impose the Muslim Brotherhood on still another country ...The Middle East is in flames because of Obama, Morsi and Ergogan. They are the trio of evil. Benghazi leads directly to this evil alliance.
While Assad is no saint --there is NO proof he used WMD...more likely the more violent arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda...as they are the rebel fighter..and the WMD used are probably those that came from Benghazi from Brennan and Obama.
Shall we start WWIII based upon unproven accusations and no proof? No.
Stop shedding the blood of Americans in frivolous wars. Let the Muslim Brotherhood and IslamoFascists kill themselves off...They are evil and a nuisance to every country they reside in...nary a word on the Christian holicaust in the Middle East and Africa they´ve perpetrated with Obama´s help...

If we adhere to the Constitution, that pesky little, nuisance that Obama dislikes, and he and all in Congress swore to uphold and defend, does not allow this. Obama does not decide this on his own. He does not have permission or authority to do this despotically. But, that won´t stop him. He said if times get tough he would stand with the Muslims.Just because he might be killing other Muslims who got in his prideful way, is secondary. Keep that in mind. The welfare of Americans is trumped by his first allegiance to his Muslim friends. Nice to know.

The most evil person in the world and the only one I classify as an enemy is currently residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The others are just annoyances. If you kill Assad the only thing it accomplishes is to give a promotion to everyone else in that regime. No policies will change. This is like the Iraq Iran war. The longer it lasts the better it is for the civilized world. The war I care about is occurring here is the Divided States of America.

He forgot to call for Assad´s firstborn son. Syria is a mess. As usual, we are kept in the dark as to what the proxy war there is really all about. There´s oil, pipelines, Iranian nukes, Hezbollah, Israel, Russian naval facilities, al-Qaeda and the age old Sunni vs Shiah rivalry. Next to getting into a land war in Asia, this is a mistake to get involved in. If it´s being done to help save face for Obama it´s even worse. If we´re relying on Israeli intelligence for the WMD report it´s doubly worse. What would it take to get Obama to take another vacation?

Valarie Jarrett has to make a decision. Obama and Holder will have to put their ´race war´ on the back burner while WWIII looms.
Obama should have been reviewing foreign policy and the middle east instead of meet and greeting sports jocks and celebrities in the WH.
It´s not so much fun listening to your own droning voice when others don´t care about it. That ´red line´ speech was taken seriously by our enemies and Obama´s propaganda media (NBC, ABC et al) can´t fix this when the enemy is listening. BSing the American public in one thing but the world is another.
Good luck ValJar with this one. This isn´t a bunch of movie critics that are all wee weed up this time like your Benghazi plan. This is the real deal.

Impeachment is something the House accomplishes. That allows for a discussion of the reasons for the proceedings. The Senate decides on removal. Clinton was Impeached, and that stands on his record forever.

"What´s at stake now is the future of civilization, and whether the word still has any meaning."

This piece is so over the top I can´t figure out if he is serious or not.

So, if he is serious, he is advocating destroying the murderous Shi´ite jihadi crescent that encircles Israel and is dedicated to her destruction, and replacing it with a murderous Sunni jihadi crescent that encircles Israel and is dedicated to her destruction. If the argument is that the US may, just may, have more influence over the Sunni jihadists than we do over the Shia jihadists, I wish someone would come right out and say it so we can all have a good laugh.

So, if we do manage to take out Assad and all of his minions, we will have created a political vacuum in Syria. And just who do you think will rush in to fill that vacuum? I really don´t think it would be someone with democratic elections and freedom in mind. That seems to be in very short supply through out the middle east. So, as many have already posted here, the best path to follow is to do nothing. Let the muslims fight each other. Of course this would mean that Obozo will lose face around the world, but, he doesn´t have any anyway.

Coming to dynamic fruition, as undergrads like to phrase it in their term papers...

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter — who used her talk show platform in the last presidential election cycle to campaign hard for former Massachusetts Gov. She made the suggestion during a discussion on Sean Hannity’s radio show while speaking of her new book, “Never Trust a Liberal Over 3-Especially a Republican.” Ms. Coulter also addressed the question of Mr. Romney’s shortcomings by saying that his 2012 loss wasn’t entirely his fault. “I think too much blame, not only in this

He’s been hammered for going around Congress with executive orders. But he’s within his authority—and he should go further on voting and transparency to make government work better. With Congress paralyzed, President Obama has promised to use his “pen and phone” to overcome the ongoing dysfunction and get some work done. And the White House has already acted several times to help improve America’s economy. But such policies, no matter how valuable, will achieve little if we do not fix our broken democracy. Allow me to suggest some ideas for how the president can do just that. First, some historical context. Presidents

Here is a selection of highlights from Friday’s release of documents from the Clinton presidency. The cache is part of a total of about 33,000 pages of presidential records that had been held back from various public records releases because of legal reasons exempting them from disclosure. A Clinton administration memo (page 674) shows a White House that was acutely aware of the first lady’s image problems as officials contemplated how to soften perceptions of Hillary Clinton and how to “build, energize and expand” her natural base. They say it´s the sincerest form of flattery. We used the same gag in October, though ObamaCare supporters were the butt of our joke. The GOP has been hijacked. That’s right, hijacked. Over the past 100 years, an elite progressive minority has taken the Republican Party far afield from its conservative platform and the interests and values of its grassroots conservative base. I’ll admit that, in the aftermath of the disappointments of the 2012 elections, conservatives like me are angry. We are angry at being blamed for Mitt Romney’s defeat, when we argued from the beginning that he was a Big Government establishment politician and that if he ran a content-free campaign, he would lose. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) is "hellbent" on passing amnesty legislation, and other GOP leaders are signaling to donors and lobbyists that they also want to pass legislation this Congress, even though attempting to do so would depress the GOP base and create divisions within the party ahead of 2014´s midterm elections that could give Republicans control of Congress. According to the Wall Street Journal, Boehner told donors at a Las Vegas fundraiser in March that he was "hellbent on getting this done this year." A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

Hillary Clinton´s upcoming memoir, which is expected to look back at her time as secretary of State, now has a name: Hard Choices. Which is an okay title! She no doubt had to make some tough decisions while at State, and has at least one big decision to make coming up in the next year or so. But the former Cabinet member and possible future presidential candidate may have been better served by a different title—like, say, Tough Decisions. Because Hard Choices has already been used. By another former secretary of State. In 1983, Cyrus Vance, who served as secretary of State

Regardless of how people feel about Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s standoff with the federal Bureau of Land Management over his cattle’s grazing rights, a lot of Americans were surprised to see TV images of an armed-to-the-teeth paramilitary wing of the BLM deployed around Bundy’s ranch. They shouldn’t have been. Dozens of federal agencies now have Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams to further an expanding definition of their missions. It’s not controversial that the Secret Service and the Bureau of Prisons have them. But what about the Department of Agriculture, the Railroad Retirement Board, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Office of

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called supporters of rancher Cliven Bundy “domestic terrorists” Thursday, turning up the rhetorical heat on the already tense situation at the Nevada cattle operation. “Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Mr. Reid in remarks at a luncheon, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which sponsored the event. “… I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.” The Nevada Democrat was referring to the hundreds of Bundy backers — some armed, some from out of state — who congregated at the ranch last week in

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

Out of left field, the state Republican Party, or the Brown campaign, or some blogger, would launch a rocket at me,” Warren wrote, adding, ”I was stunned by the attacks.” This reporter (blogger?) reported extensively

WASHINGTON — Former President Jimmy Carter joined fellow Nobel laureates Wednesday in opposing Keystone XL, insisting that approving the pipeline would trigger “more climate upheaval” around the globe. In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
