Powell: Trayvon Martin
Verdict ´Questionable´

Associated Press, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:Emerson, 8/25/2013 8:18:42 AM

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says the jury verdict that freed the killer of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was "questionable." But he isn´t sure it will have staying power in the public consciousness. Speaking on CBS´s Face the Nation, Powell said cases like Martin´s "blaze across the midnight sky" and are forgotten. The first black chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and first black secretary of state, Powell says America has come a long way toward racial equality 50 years after Martin Luther King Jr.´s "I Have a Dream" speech. Powell recalled being refused service when trying to

Comments:
What kind of "staying power" is he looking for? How about talking to young black men and telling them to get their lives together so that they can avail themselves of the opportunities that have been hard won for them?

Thank goodness he was never elected president. Apparently affirmative action - which trumped equal opportunity for all - was never enough for him either.

I suspect Powell shows signs of Dementia.
He feeds the festering hatred of the black community by casting doubt where there is none. The Jury has spoken, Mr. Powell.
If you hate the Laws of the United States, please move..may I suggest Romania?

Like CBS didn´t know they´d be perpetuating the myth (and adding to it - "cases like...") by using Colin as a sock puppet.

Black people seem to think their personal anecdotal bad experiences are the norm and apply them to all citizens. That is blatantly unfair
to the vast numbers of Americans who have fought with them for equality, treated them with respect do to another human being, hired them on merit, lived along side them, sat in church with them, etc. Man up sir, you do your race a disservice.

Doesn´t Colin Powell understand the reason he is invited on shows such as "Face the Nation" is because he can be relied upon to say something hateful and racist? He´s very little better than Al Sharpton these days. I´m with the earlier poster, maybe he´s had some kind of mental breakdown.

They are pulling out all the stops to create racism where it does not exist by talking about how it used to be and inferring that is how it is today. They are terrified of losing the racism edge because they can see as well as we do that the bennys could come to an end.

Let me see if I understand Powell´s "thought process".

If I walked up to Powell and sucker-punched him in his nose, breaking it and knocking him to the ground, then jumped on top of him and proceeded to pound his head into the concrete, he would not try to stop me before I killed him? And he was in the Army??? And led our National forces?

OK I see one of our Nation´s problems with winning decisively in Iraq, back in 1990

What is questionable, in fact, more than questionable, despicable, is for someone in Powell´s position to undermine faith in the criminal justice system because of a personal political agenda. Powell has no basis whatever for insinuating that the trial of George Zimmerman -a trial that, but for political pressures, would never have taken place- was not fairly and justly handled or that the verdict was inappropriate. He knows nothing about what happened, the trial itself, the evidence, the arguments, the examinations and cross-examinations of witnesses and experts, the instructions of the judge or the deliberations of the jury. Yet he presumes to judge the entire thing and its outcome as "questionable" and thereby lends aid and comfort to those who either do not understand or do not care how the rule of law works.

This was a shameful, disgraceful comment from a man who continues to make public statements that indicate he is not and perhaps never was what many Americans once thought he was, a sober, intelligent, loyal American citizen.

I believe that if you sat Powell down and asked him to tell you the story of the Trayvon Martin incident, he´d be stumped - other than to say that he was "in a scuffle" with a neighborhood watch person who ended up pulling a gun. Or something like that.

Powell doesn´t have a clue. He has drunk the racist Koolaid and that´s enough for him. Hit the high places and move on - and as he says, no one will remember.

But we do.

from ALL accounts, Powell has been like this just about forever. That being the case, one must ask how he got into positions such that one even knew his name.
Unfortunately, we know the answer to that. RINO´s had a lot to do with it. It wasn´t hard-cord open Democraps. It was closeted RINO´s. It was people like W, who not only gave us dolts like Powell, but were proud of it. Previous poster was correct, pushing a broom was about as far as he should have gone.

I have to thank Obama for releasing the many racist witches from the closet.
In the future these blabber mouth black racist will reap from the harvest of white hatred. Think of black actors and entertainers who have been successful with white support. The feral ghetto blacks don´t support them it was the whites who supported most of them. I´ll bet Colin Powell wouldn´t exit his car, unarmed in a housing project.
I guess the only thing Powell can do now is start dropping the ´f´ bomb like Samuel L. Jackson to get in touch with his ´blackness´.
If Powell thinks the verdict in the Zimmerman trial is questionable then he certainly didn´t pay attention to the evidence or cared to.

Powell is an empty suit with skin color that trumps thought process!

Trayvon Martin was a case of racist bigotry--if TM had not been a racist, intent on "whooping" a "creepy ass cracka" the incident would never have happened, TM could have continued to the "home" where he was staying, and George Zimmerman could have finished his errand and gone home.

From the evidence and witnesses presented by the prosecutors, Trayvon would have been convicted and sentenced for felony assault and battery and attempted murder, had he survived the encounter.

#22 ~ kept on walking ~ maybe. This is actually one of the more serious of the political questions unearthed in the whole case.

Remember, Z didn´t use Stand Your Ground (SYG) as a defense. Actually, he was departing the scene on his way back to his truck when he was hit. That, BTW, is the old PRE SYG standard ~ which was to run away, hide, retreat, whatever you could do to get out of the conlict.

Trayvon, on the other hand, was presumably on his way home ~ and according to the Jeandel woman he became aware of Z. Actually Z also became aware of T. T disappears ~ according to Z (and his 911 call) and that would, once again, be consistent with SYG!

So, we got both these guys out there doing SYG and then ~ bang ~ T pops out of nowhere and hits Z!

So much for SYG as an effective defense strategy here ~

You can tell folks who didn´t pay much attention to the critical details when they fall back to the days of SYG ~ Colin Powell, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton.......

Naw, both these guys did just that and in the end it failed when T smacked Z up side the head.

Z was entitled to self-defense under the old law, the new law, or any law once he got knocked to the ground.

Regardless of your feelings about either movie, Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” qualifies and so does Martin Scorsese’s “The Last Temptation of Christ.” Now director Darren Aronofsky (“Black Swan,” “The Wrestler”) has ascended to the mountaintop and returned with the strangest, most visionary cinematic parable yet. “Noah” is equal parts ridiculous and magnificent, a showman’s folly and a madman’s epic. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Hank Aaron’s recent comments about the need for America to realize that racism is still very much alive and thriving — only now due to those who wear “neckties and starched shirts” rather than KKK hoods — has sparked an angry backlash and many fans are turning the tables, calling the baseball legend himself a racist. “Hank Aaron is a s*****g piece of [expletive] [racial slur],” one man said in an email to the Atlanta Braves’ front office, one of the teams Mr. Aaron used to play for, CBS News reported. “My old man instilled in my mind from a

Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.” The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth. The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it

Funny question in the headline, yes? But since President Obama worries more about the threat of terrorists´ improvised nuclear device going off in a major American city than anything Russia can throw at us, I was wondering if the government had deigned to share with us citizens any tips for, you know, surviving something their own intelligence points to as the likeliest unlikely Black Swan event. Well, no. And yes. No — very few people in Washington, D.C., who work for the government have any idea what they would do if a 10-kiloton nuclear device exploded at the intersection of 16th and K

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

When President Obama needed a preacher to fulfill the closing prayer duties at the annual White House Easter Prayer Breakfast, he turned to none other than the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop — who said he was as shocked as anyone at the appointment. The Right Rev. Gene Robinson said in a tweet, accompanied by a photo of Mr. Obama behind a podium at the event: “POTUS ‘preaches’ at the Easter prayer breakfast. Then, out of the blue, asks ME to close with prayer. OMG!” Newsmax said he also emphasized that the words he chose to close the breakfast

President Obama pulled a surprise move Monday at the White House’s Easter Prayer Breakfast when he selected Gene Robinson to lead the closing prayer. Talking Points Memo’s Tom Kludt spotted the following tweet from Robinson, who was in attendance: (Tweet) Robinson, 66, became diocesan bishop of New Hampshire in March 2004. A Russian fighter jet made multiple, close-range passes near an American warship in the Black Sea for more than 90 minutes Saturday amid escalating tensions in the region, a U.S. military official said Monday. In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings. The fighter appeared to be unarmed and never was in danger of
