Obama’s Long List of Broken Promises
Commentary Magazine, by Peter Wehner

Original Article

Posted By:Drive, 8/23/2013 3:08:08 PM

In his column yesterday, Daniel Henninger–in writing about President Obama’s summer trips and series of speeches on the economy–asks, “Is anyone listening to these speeches? Do they matter?” The answer to both questions is, I think, no. And it raises a deeper issue: Has any previous president devalued his words quite so much, in quite so many ways? Perhaps, but I rather doubt it. In order to support my claim, it’s worth taking a stroll down memory lane, to compare what Mr. Obama has said with what he has done. The sheer bandwidth of his broken promises and empty claims is quite extraordinary.

A long, ugly list of broken promises, aka lies. And the author is just scratching the surface. Very depressing.

His words do mean something; they mean the exact opposite. Next time Obama promises something, you can be sure he is telegraphing the opposite.

The nation’s newest billionaire is a rags-to-riches success story who escaped communist Ukraine as a teen and lived on food stamps in the United States before hitting it big with a messaging app that has become the hottest thing in social media. Meet Jan Koum, the 37-year-old college dropout who with his partner and mentor, Brian Acton, just sold their startup, WhatsApp, to Facebook for $19 billion in cash and stocks. Koum is now worth $6.8 billion. It’s a long way from the government-assisted, two-bedroom apartment in Mountain View, Calif., where he came of age with his mom, and even farther from his

A few weeks before Season 2 of “House of Cards” debuted online, the show’s production company sent Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley a letter with this warning: Give us millions more dollars in tax credits, or we will “break down our stage, sets and offices and set up in another state.” A similar letter went to the speaker of the House of Delegates, Michael E. Busch (D-Anne Arundel), whose wife, Cynthia, briefly appeared in an episode of the Netflix series about an unscrupulous politician — played by Kevin Spacey — who manipulates, threatens and kills to achieve revenge and power.

NEW YORK — Just days after Mayor Bill de Blasio announced an aggressive plan to prevent traffic deaths, CBS 2 cameras caught the driver of a car carrying the mayor violating a number of traffic laws. But the NYPD responded Thursday evening that the mayor’s caravan, which is operated by police, sometimes has to use special driving techniques for protective reasons. As CBS 2´s Marcia Kramer reported Thursday, the mayor’s two-car caravan was seen speeding, blowing through stop signs, and violating other traffic laws. Kramer reported that if the driver of the lead car, which carried the mayor in

Two leading Republicans on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence say that Michael Morell, former deputy director and twice acting director of the Central Intelligence Agency, provided an account of his role on Benghazi that was often highly misleading and at times deliberately false. “I went back and reviewed some of his testimony the other day and he’s gotten himself in a real box,” says Senator Saxby Chambliss, the highest-ranking Republican on the committee. “It’s really strange. I’m on vacation in Mexico this week, with limited Internet access, but here are a few immediate thoughts on Facebook’s acquisition of WhatsApp, a messaging start-up. I won’t pretend to be an expert on WhatsApp, or on what distinguishes its technology from that of other similar services. But, from a financial perspective, the obvious thing that stands out is the price that Facebook is paying: up to nineteen billion dollars. Even in Silicon Valley, that’s a great deal of money to pay for a company with virtually no revenues, but it doesn’t prove positively that Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg are

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT), the largest private employer in the U.S., said it’s looking at supporting an increase in the federal minimum wage, breaking with business and industry groups that oppose such a measure. Wal-Mart is weighing the impact of additional payroll costs against possibly attracting more consumer dollars to its stores, David Tovar, a company spokesman, said today in a telephone interview. Increasing the minimum wage means that some of the 140 million people who shop at the chain weekly would “now have additional income,” Tovar said.

Here in my home state, a director of Connect for Health Colorado — the state-sponsored Obamacare health-insurance exchange — was just put on administrative leave. No, Christa Ann McClure did not go on leave over the chronic problems plaguing the cursed Connect for Health website. President Obama’s stimulus may have boosted the economy when it passed in 2009, but it’s now beginning to take a toll and will soon begin to leave the economy worse off than if it had never passed, according to a new report Friday by the Congressional Budget Office. Mr. Obama signed the stimulus into law five years ago this week, vowing it would help rescue the economy from its post-Wall Street collapse tailspin, and saying it would save millions of jobs. The CBO said it’s been successful at that, helping sustain between 700,000 and 3.6 million jobs at its peak

The University of Notre Dame must provide birth control to employees and students after a federal appeals court ruled Friday, a move the school says will force it to violate its religious beliefs. In a blow to religious colleges and universities across the country, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago denied Notre Dame´s request for an injunction to the ObamaCare birth control mandate that requires the school to provide coverage for contraception. The injunction would have given Notre Dame a temporary reprieve from the birth control mandate, as the Roman Catholic school challenges the rule in court.

The real mystery behind the FCC´s now abandoned "study" to police American newsrooms is why the mainstream media refused to raise holy hell over it. While Obama´s lapdogs refused to bark, it was conservative media who fought for newsroom independence and got the FCC to finally back down. Other than the media´s natural obedience to Obama, the fact that the fingerprints of left-wing billionaire George Soros have been found on the FCC study might also help to explain the media´s silence. CNS News reports that for the first ten years of the last decade, Soros donated more than $52 million
