Why don´t you have any black friends?
CNN, by Tanner Colby

Original Article

Posted By:mark34, 8/19/2013 9:38:10 AM

"So, how many black friends do you have now?" It´s a question I get asked a lot, ever since I set out five years ago to find out why I, your typical middle-class white person, had no black friends at all. I do have black friends now, actually. Several. But I rarely offer that information when asked, because to ask white people how many black friends they have is to pose the wrong question. (Snip) It helps if white people know how to be better white people.

The irritating obsession with skin color continues unabated.

So, how many Mormon friends do you have, Mr. Tanner? How many Tea Party friends? How many Evangelical Christian friends? How many Russian Orthodox? How many NASCAR fans? How many nuns (the kind that wear habits)?

So what are you, a hateful intolerant bigot? Or do you just lead a sanitized, sheltered vanilla-soft-serv life?

People are attracted to the people who share their own culture. The few black people who exhibit the characteristics of American culture don´t have any trouble having white friends. The great mass of black people exhibit the characteristics of some foreign culture. Us whites have no more idea how to deal with people of that culture than we do with, say, Mongolian culture.

To the vast majority of us, a friend is a friend, and his skin color or whatever isn´t part of the equation. Why this constant need to divide us into categories?

Conservative whites have few black friends because over 90% of blacks vote against my value system. And blacks are intimidated into believing that if whites don´t agree with the welfare state philosophy (liberal agenda), they are racists. All this is perpetrated upon blacks by liberal whites and racialist of the Democrat party. How could whites be friends with people like that?

I can be friends with anyone regardless of skin color. But not with anyone that advocates the destruction of my country, family and culture. But my most coveted friendships would be with conservative minorities that have seen the light of how devastating the Democrats have been to all of us. And I reserve my vote for those as well. So, where are they? Come out and you will find a loyal following in the white population. Your country needs you!

To become the type of white person that a black person would want as a friend? Are you serious? Gees, I´d better really look inward to see if I´m worthy. How about posing that question in reverse and see what might happen. I, like others, just have friends. I pander to no one for a relationship.

Friends? Achievement? Participation? Happiness? The question is how long white progressives, who feel good about themselves, will keep blacks on their plantation and break up the black family in order to maintain that feeling of superiority and avenue to power. How long? That is the question.

Because the grievance pimps and the ´hip-hop´ culture and the black caucus and many other factions within the black community are all in agreement that I am the problem and that I have created all the problems on the planet.
Notwithstanding the fact that I am a first generation immigrant, my white skin makes me the bad guy.

My sainted mother taught me not to go where I am not welcome.

Blacks may object to white people locking their car doors but we all know that a white guy in the hood late at night isn´t worried about being insulted, he is worried for his life.

To paraphrase Obama.....´Should the winds of politics blow in a bad way, I will stand with the Rednecks and the Hillbillies and the gun totin´ Skinheads. Not because I hate anyone but rather because the black culture goes out of it´s way to remind me every day that I am hated.

#7 hit the nail on the head. Very few people have friends who do not share their culture. In most cases when people have friends who do not share their culture it is because both parties knowingly choose to put aside the cultural differences.

It is funny, when I read that question and the summary, I thought through the list of people I count as friends, thinking about which ones were non-white (I, also, thought about which ones would have been considered non-white 50 years ago). It made me really uncomfortable to realize how few there are....until a few minutes later when I realized that there were several non-white friends I had skipped over because I never think about their race at all.

I admit that I don´t have any black friends, but I have friends who happen to be black, something that is about as significant as having a truck that happens to be gray. That in no way limits or advances their nature or changes the reasons why they are my friends, which is the way it should be. That aspect is determined by the strength of their character, which I recall was mentioned a while back as a valid issue. That concept seems to have been forgotten to a large extent these days. It would be refreshing if certain of the "usual suspects" would pay more attention to this and less attention to the devisive things that they seem to bring up, resulting in negative feelings that seem to infect a lot of people, but not the friends I know. I thank God for that.

1. That headline really weighed on me.

So, I must confess, though it´s hardly easy. But... I must. I must.

I... have no friends who play bocce. I never have. Not one, not ever.

Shun me if you must. Ostracize me. Call me Ishmael. I deserve it.

2. OK, about friends -- similar values, similar interests, similar activities. That´s a short version, to illuminate the following.

I was recently traveling and visiting family for about 2 weeks. Among stops I "had to make" [reflective of and rewarding to my interests, my nature, etc.] were: a. Brooklyn Museum [of Art], to see 93 Sargent watercolors [about 10 oils thrown in for backstory -- fantastic, go see it later, in Boston]; b. the Carnegie Museums of Art, and Natural History, in Pittsburgh; and c. Wright´s architectural magic [also known as "Fallingwater"], near Pittsburgh. "Fallingwater" gets 135,000 visitors a year.

A friend made during those stops would have had to come from this pool: about 15 blacks at Carnegie, 4 at Brooklyn. Two cashiers; 2 guards, one a pleasant old man, one an officious unhelpful young female. If I tried to make a friend at Carnegie, I´d have risked child-molester charges [they were 12 or younger]. They were there ´cause they had to be. Period. Almost all day at "Fallingwater"? Not one. It was busy, too, being Saturday.

I do know where to meet blacks. The TGI Friday´s bar, very late, any night. See ´em if I pop into the restaurant side for a late burger. Never overheard any "chat" I wanted any part of, though. FWIW.

Why isn´t the question ever reversed ?
Ask a black person how many white friends they have.

Sometimes we are their friends, but they are not ours.

I have noticed that blacks always revert to not liking whites when push comes to shove. I posed a question in a class once:
If you won the lottery what would you do with the money ? Keep in mind these were not low income individuals. One would get the mansion straight away. Another would take care of some personal things, then help "women of color" Not women or the elderly, but women of color.

I remember the old days when we were just Americans.

If they do such a crazy thing, our response will make them rue the day." On the ongoing nuclear talks with the West, Rouhani insisted Iran would not destroy any of its existing centrifuges "under any circumstances." "In the context of R&D and peaceful nuclear technology, we will not

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

On Fox News Sunday, political analyst Brit Hume said that Eric Holder’s claim that his treatment at the hands of Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX) at a House hearing this week was unprecedented toward an Attorney General, made him a “crybaby,” and that he and President Barack Obama had in fact benefited “enormously” from being the first African Americans in their respective positions. “This strikes me as kinda crybaby stuff from Holder,” Hume said. “My sense about this is both Eric Holder and Barack Obama have benefited politically enormously from the fact that they are African American and the first to

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Funny question in the headline, yes? But since President Obama worries more about the threat of terrorists´ improvised nuclear device going off in a major American city than anything Russia can throw at us, I was wondering if the government had deigned to share with us citizens any tips for, you know, surviving something their own intelligence points to as the likeliest unlikely Black Swan event. Well, no. And yes. No — very few people in Washington, D.C., who work for the government have any idea what they would do if a 10-kiloton nuclear device exploded at the intersection of 16th and K

When President Obama needed a preacher to fulfill the closing prayer duties at the annual White House Easter Prayer Breakfast, he turned to none other than the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop — who said he was as shocked as anyone at the appointment. The Right Rev. Gene Robinson said in a tweet, accompanied by a photo of Mr. Obama behind a podium at the event: “POTUS ‘preaches’ at the Easter prayer breakfast. Then, out of the blue, asks ME to close with prayer. OMG!” Newsmax said he also emphasized that the words he chose to close the breakfast

Hank Aaron’s recent comments about the need for America to realize that racism is still very much alive and thriving — only now due to those who wear “neckties and starched shirts” rather than KKK hoods — has sparked an angry backlash and many fans are turning the tables, calling the baseball legend himself a racist. “Hank Aaron is a s*****g piece of [expletive] [racial slur],” one man said in an email to the Atlanta Braves’ front office, one of the teams Mr. Aaron used to play for, CBS News reported. “My old man instilled in my mind from a

President Obama pulled a surprise move Monday at the White House’s Easter Prayer Breakfast when he selected Gene Robinson to lead the closing prayer. Robinson is famously known as the first openly gay Episcopal bishop. Talking Points Memo’s Tom Kludt spotted the following tweet from Robinson, who was in attendance: (Tweet) Robinson, 66, became diocesan bishop of New Hampshire in March 2004. He retired in January 2013 and is currently a senior fellow at the progressive

A Russian fighter jet made multiple, close-range passes near an American warship in the Black Sea for more than 90 minutes Saturday amid escalating tensions in the region, a U.S. military official said Monday. In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings. The fighter appeared to be unarmed and never was in danger of

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru
