Egypt Security Kills 36 Held in Its Custody
New York Times, by Rod Nordland

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 8/18/2013 10:46:48 PM

Cairo - The Egyptian government acknowledged that its security forces had killed 36 Islamists in its custody Sunday, as the military leaders and the country’s Islamists vowed to keep up their fight over Egypt’s future. (Snip) While confirming the killings of the detainees on Sunday, the Ministry of the Interior said the deaths were the consequence of an escape attempt by Islamist prisoners. But officials of the main Islamist movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, described the deaths as “assassinations,” and claimed that the victims, which it said numbered 52, had been shot and tear-gassed through the windows

Comments:
I would be more inclined to believe that the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist killed were doing a "mass suicide" to get sympathy for their movement. Only problem is, once the bloodletting started, it was hard to stop. As I said before, when all this is over, the victor will write "events" for the history books.

Too late now, probably, but that would have been the preferable policy at Gitmo from Day One.

The Epyptian military realizes that dead people don´t live to fight another day. There´s no point putting them in jail because they´d break out and be back fighting the next day..
Not surprising that the Slimes would show the MB sympathy.Protecting Obama leads people down weird paths.I doubt they showed any concern about these animals burning down churches and gov´t buildings.

This is what we should have been doing to the Taliban in Afghanistan rather than work on a peace deal.

Well said, #9. the Muslim Brotherhood´s philosophy must be destroyed. It is the cancer that is consuming the whole world. Radical ideologues have stated in plain English that their goal is world domination. However, because those words are coming out of the mouths of seventh century barbarians in far away lands without a standing army, the West is apathetic. They don´t understand the focus and determination of a people committed to destroying our way of life. If the MB is spared, make no mistake, they will live to fight another day and they will come for us.

Radical Muslims, i.e. the Muslim Brotherhood, are no more trustworthy than Leftists, Democrats and "progressives." They will say anything, fabricate anything, claim anything that they think advances their cause. Like Leftists, Islamists are engaged in jihad, a holy war against unbelievers and evil ones. Truth for such people is defined as whatever helps them to prevail.

Americans would be wise to believe and to assist the Egyptian military government until or unless there is compelling evidence to the contrary. I am surprised that anyone would think of taking the claims of the Muslim Brotherhood seriously without proof.

Sometimes it seems that those who ought to be familiar with the history, nature, aims and practices of the Muslim Brotherhood are completely ignorant of such matters. This includes many American politicians and bureaucrats and journalists.

"We don´t take sides?" The latest from our faux-president. But we had darned well better take sides if we know what is good for us. The Muslim Brotherhood consists of bad people who do bad things in a bad cause. I don´t know anything about the current Egyptian government and its military leaders, but it would take some real effort and a lot of practice and determination to outdo the Brotherhood in sheer wickedness. I am therefore reasonably confident that the Egyptian military, if it is an evil at all, is decidedly the lesser of the two evils in this conflict.

What?! You mean the Egyptian military doesn´t have an Abu Graib or Gitmo to detain people for YEARS and then, when they see they´ve become peaceful Islamists, they set them free, only to shockingly discover that these same peaceful Isalmists ended back up on the battlefield to kill members of the Egyptian military.

Hmmmm, I wonder what those crazy leaders in the Egyptian military know that we don´t know? /s

It´s a no brainer. Think of all the islamic warring fanatics as Nazis or Stalinist soviet communist terrorist killers. Take no prisoners. As long as they´re alive, they will kill again. Any questions about this idological supremacist world conquering jihad of a killing disease, posing as a supposed religion? All communists here in America suffer the same religious fanatacism
except, here in America, they operate under cover of stealth. Why else would they not recognise themselves in the acts of world jihadist crime? Diane Sawyers, so much of Congress, cannot see the evil of jihad because it so exactly resembles their own
communistic fanaticism of, their oath to violent control.

We hear talk that Egypt may outlaw the Muslim Brotherhood. This is exactly what should be done. An encuraging sign is that Saudi Arabia´s ruler has called for all Arabs to back the military in Egypt.

The Muslims must do it for themselves. We have tried to do it for them but, of course, we failed.

Let´s see, who was imposing Islamic law by force on the Egyptian people, the current government or the Morsi/Muslim Brotherhood government? Right. Muslim Brotherhood. And who has been murdering Christians just because they are Christian? Current Egyptian government or the Muslim Brotherhood? Right again, the Muslim Brotherhood. And who has been burning Christian churches? Muslim Brotherhood. And who is the sworn enemy of every Jew on the face of the earth? You got it. Muslim Brotherhood. And who has the most radical of the totalitarian American left aligned itself with? Muslim Brotherhood.

The Egyptian government says it was a failed escape attempt. The Muslim Brotherhood says it was assassination. So ... who to believe? Does anyone really need to ask? [hint: the NYT goes with the MB story. That alone should tell you something.]

We need Egypt to be stabilized, for as Egypt goes, so goes the region.

I am confident the need to stabilize Egypt is lost on the Dip Stick in the White House.

Obama has not been told yet that the MB is slaughtering Coptic Christians. He is usually a month late and a Trillion $ short. He is the last person to know any news ( so the WH says ) and when he learns about it, he heads straight to the golf course to ponder for 18 holes. The so-called leader of the free World is likely the most useless person in the Whole World, except he is terrific at blaming others. He personally gave the speech in Cairo in 2008 that likely set off this wave of Mid-East violence, in my opinion. How many people have died because of HIS ideology ?

Meanwhile, around the same time this alleged episode ("Egypt Security Kills 36 Held in Its Custody") took place, militant Islamists executed a similar number of off-duty Egyptian policemen after hijacking their bus, somewhere in the Sinai.

Sounds as if the Egyptian security forces are having to fight fire with fire.

You don´t have to go to the Griffith Observatory or other prime watching spot to view the first total lunar eclipse of 2014. Numerous "blood moon" video streams are available on the Web. The Griffith Observatory will be streaming the event live from the Zeiss dome beginning at 9:45 p.m. The Slooh Observatory in the Canary Islands will also be doing a live stream. NASA is also planning a live stream, with experts taking questions from viewers. For those who want to take in the event in person, Griffith Observatory decided to open its doors Monday (it´s usually closed). "We are expecting large crowds," the observatory said in a statement.

Even as the cost of prescription drugs has plummeted for many Americans, a small slice of the population is being asked to shoulder more and more of the cost of expensive treatments for diseases like cancer and hepatitis C, according to a report to be released on Tuesday by a major drug research firm. Guantanamo Bay Navy Base, Cuba - A military judge abruptly recessed the first 9/11 trial hearing of the year Monday after defense lawyers accused the FBI in open court of trying to turn a defense team security officer into a secret informant. If true, the lawyers argued, attorney-client confidentiality might be compromised in the case that seeks to put on trial and execute five men accused of orchestrating the Sept. 11 attacks that killed 3,000 people in New York, Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon. At issue, in part, was the publication in January of prison camp musings by the alleged 9/11 mastermind, Khalid Sheik Mohammed,

Abuja, Nigeria - Bomb blasts ripped through a bus station in the suburbs of the Nigerian capital today in the largest single attack on Abuja since insurgents began violent operations in 2009. Authorities say 71 people were killed and 124 were injured in a strike on Nyanya Motor Park, a chaotic bus station where commuters board megabuses into the pristine city center for work less than 10 miles away. The blasts in Nigeria´s capital are a direct challenge to the government´s recent assurances that it has managed to contain Boko Haram, Nigeria's militant Islamist group, to the remote northeast of the country. James McVay had pleaded guilty but mentally ill to a murder charge in 2012 in the stabbing death of 75-year-old Maybelle Schein. The Sioux Falls jury chose the death penalty, though jurors could have sentenced him to life in prison without parole. McVay, 43, said he killed Schein and stole her car as part of his plan to drive to Washington and kill the president. Authorities said McVay walked away from a minimum-security prison

NASA announced Sunday, however, it would proceed with the launch from Cape Canaveral, Fla. late Monday afternoon. The SpaceX Dragon capsule, which is slated to carry 4,600 pounds of supplies to the International Space Station, is scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9

Outgoing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says the administration´s own predictions that the new health care law´s online sign-up system would be ready by Oct. 1 were "just flat out wrong." Sebelius told NBC´s "Meet the Press" in an interview airing Sunday the health care website´s launch was "terribly flawed and terribly difficult." She says that eight-week period was her low point of her tenure. Sebelius last week announced her resignation. She says she wanted to give President Barack Obama enough time to bring in a new health chief. Sebelius´ resignation comes just a week after sign-ups for

Christchurch - The Duchess of Cambridge appeared to scotch pregnancy rumours today by enjoying several glasses of New Zealand wine with the Duke, before heading off for a white-knuckle thrill ride on a jet boat in leafy Queenstown. But she took a tumble in the local vineyard when she stumbled and nearly fell over her 4inch wedges. Kate told wine-makers at a local vineyard she ´was really enjoying being able to drink again after having baby George.´ Hannah Armstrong, from Mudhouse Wines, said: ´Kate said she hadn´t drunk whilst pregnant with George and although she doesn´t drink much she was

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

On Fox News Sunday, political analyst Brit Hume said that Eric Holder’s claim that his treatment at the hands of Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX) at a House hearing this week was unprecedented toward an Attorney General, made him a “crybaby,” and that he and President Barack Obama had in fact benefited “enormously” from being the first African Americans in their respective positions. “This strikes me as kinda crybaby stuff from Holder,” Hume said. “My sense about this is both Eric Holder and Barack Obama have benefited politically enormously from the fact that they are African American and the first to

Let me obliterate a bit of confusion here: the Obama administration attempted to go to war with a rancher in Nevada. Let me amplify a little bit of truth: They tucked tail and have returned home. And let me add a bit of clarity: they had no choice! As the nation began to become familiar with the plight of the family of Cliven Bundy, many of us harkened back to another standoff in which the Federal government attempted to bully it´s outcome: Waco, Texas and the Branch Davidian massacre. It is telling that in the Nevada case the feds pulled out so

They’re both qualified, respectful of each other (shocker!), and represent the vast majority of middle America. So what’s not to like about another Clinton/Bush race for 2016? When you mention the prospect of Clinton vs. Bush 2016 a funny thing happens. First, there is the reflexive response: "Oh no, not again. We don´t need more dynastic politics in this country." But upon further reflection, you realize Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Clinton would be a great race and actually good for the country. Let´s review. QUALIFICATIONS—THEY’VE BOTH GOT THEM. Barack Obama won the presidency because in an election where the premium was on change, it mattered little

A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Republican Party stripped opposition to abortion and gay marriage from its platform Saturday as state convention delegates instead focused on judging fellow Republicans on their worthiness to serve in office and adherence to GOP values. The platform, with few changes, was adopted overwhelmingly as the Las Vegas convention stretched late into the evening. The vote mirrors that of the Clark County GOP, which voted earlier to remove platform language defining marriage as between a man and a woman and statements opposing abortion. Many Republicans are re-evaluating their strong stances on conservative social issues as public

President Obama pulled a surprise move Monday at the White House’s Easter Prayer Breakfast when he selected Gene Robinson to lead the closing prayer. Robinson is famously known as the first openly gay Episcopal bishop. Talking Points Memo’s Tom Kludt spotted the following tweet from Robinson, who was in attendance: (Tweet) Robinson, 66, became diocesan bishop of New Hampshire in March 2004. He retired in January 2013 and is currently a senior fellow at the progressive

A Russian fighter jet made multiple, close-range passes near an American warship in the Black Sea for more than 90 minutes Saturday amid escalating tensions in the region, a U.S. military official said Monday. In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings. The fighter appeared to be unarmed and never was in danger of

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

Some time back, whenever a big racial controversy erupted, I trained myself into the habit of reading about it at FoxNews.com, just for the unbelievable comment threads. Let’s put it this way: If my friends and I went out to a bar and started playing a “let’s write the racist FoxNews.com comment thread” drinking game, our efforts couldn’t begin to approach what I read there.I wasn’t alone. Liberal websites started feasting on these threads. And so, a couple of years ago, Ailes & Co. got wise. Stories about race were, at least in my disheartened experience, closed to comments.
