IRS? A system of voluntary tax compliance cannot survive a dishonest IRS. Lois Lerner and company have virtually ruined the agency. For the foreseeable future, each time an American receives a tax query, he will wonder to what degree his politics ensures enhanced or reduced scrutiny — or whether his name as a donor, activist, or partisan has put him on a watch list. Worse still, when a high commissioner of the IRS takes the 5th Amendment, it sends a frightening message: those audited go to jail when they refuse to testify; those who audit them who do the same
VDH presents the evidence, and lack thereof, of the malfeasence of the traitorous Obamanation regime. A good primer to send along to others. We must not forget this crime of betrayal, or allow others to forget.
Never seen anything which better fits the Constitutional "high crimes and misdemeanors" like a glove. But the only effective recourse left is the ballot box. The Left has successfully closed alternate avenues.
The line ´lead from behind has become leave them behind´. What a sick administration and leader we have. The only one we don´t hear from any longer seems to be old Joe. Guess they are afraid he might let some truth leak. It doesn´t bother anyone that he painted a target on the back of the Navy Seals that got bin laden and soon after many were killed in a helicopter downing. So many lies and so few who care. I think God is watching even if voters are not. Thank you for a great article.
And in reaction to all this [Benghazi], we jail a petty video maker, who makes the perfect scapegoat as a supposedly right-wing Islamophobic hate monger whose take-down advances our president’s politically correct narrative of Muslim outreach. That yarn required a president, secretary of state, and UN ambassador to lie repeatedly.
Why is lying no longer an outrage among Democrats? It is because the raison d´etre for the Party´s existence is not the truth; it´s the agenda. Everything good and truthful gets sacrificed on the altars of liberalism, multiculturalism and big-government largesse.
We are being plagued by scandal fatigue. There are so many scandals and all the investigations are moving along at a snails pace. Each day the media lapdogs are there propping up this administration. They deify the President and continually castigate Republicans. The administration continues to drag its feet by providing heavily redacted documents. Witnesses are hidden by the administration and others come before the committes and lie with no consequences whatsoever. The Republicans are weak and without an overall strategy. Buck up and get serious, but don´t pretend you are doing the people´s business. It is just politics as usual. Where is the focus and urgency? The American people deserve better.
What gets me is that if a police officer was giving out tickets based on bumper stickers he didn´t like, the press would go out of their minds. But since 1/2 of the US supports the the idea of hurting their opponents by using the IRS, this isn´t that bad.
I wish we could bring the knowledge wisdom and reason of Victor Davis Hanson into the general social conscious, not to mention schools. The early video mythology, if anything at all, will live on in the minds of well over 50% of the people who will vote in 2014 1nd 2016. Less than 10% will have ever heard of VDH let alone read his works. I suppose I have some work to do if I´m to do my part. We will only turn this ship one personal interaction at a time.
The crime is the turning of a blind eye to all this by congress and the media. If the press wont do their constitutional duty, their constitutional protections should be taken away making them liable for prosecution for criminal collusion. Same for boehner and his motley crew.
Folks we are very very close to being Horatio at the Bridge.
" .. Rome had placed its defense in the hands of an entire army of cowards, which not only could not hold one hill but after drawing up a line of battle could not stand even the first charge of the enemy."
He missed one scandal that may be bigger than Benghazi. That is the deaths of Seal Team 6 as payment to the Taliban for killing Bin Laden, the cremation of their bodies, substitution of Afghannies at the last minute before the mission, and allowing a Muslim cleric to condemn the all to hell at their memorial service.
As bad as VDH depicts Benghazi I think it´s worse, much worse. There are claims of collusion between Obama and Morsi and the MusBros (represented essentially by al Qaeda or Ansar al Sharia a name to disguise al Qaeda) to trade Stevens for the blind Sheik (Stevens to be captured in the attack on Benghazi . . .obviously the deal went bad). Then there is the matter of 400 US missiles diverted to Lybia which ended up in the hands of al Qaeda. In other words if this was all exposed their wouldn`t have been meer fear that people might realize al Qaeda wasn´t dead and on the run as alleged but that the administration was actually colluding with them through Morsi and the MusBros. That transcends lying and approaches treason.
At the very least this demands an investigation. I hope the Republican investigators aren´t just trying to get sufficient scandal material to win an election but are going for the truth.
I can´t believe that I once thought our Congress looked out for us. Niave me! They are the weakest link in all of this, seconded by the lo-fos. The only hope is for the states to rise up, but then again, they need those federal dollars. No hope there! WHere do we go from here?
The only truth teller in the entire sorry saga is the honest guy who produced the Muhammed video. The criminality and immorality of Muhammed was portrayed truthfully with some humor. I suggest everyone view it and remember it´s deadly lesson.
Amen #19...The horrendous situation "America The Beautiful" finds itself in today, under the reign of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Zero-Nero, is nothing new to world history...For confirmation, look no further than Edward Gibbon´s monumental, 18th Century classic entitled "The History Of The Decline And Fall Of The Roman Empire."
In the meantime, the humorous video "Innocence of Muslims" has been censored by YouTube and is no longer accessible online. Muslims will have no fear of US if we just keep giving in to them. Poor Mr. Nakoula is still in jail and our Libyan al-Quaeda enemies have not been punished.
My hope is that by rolling out Hillary Clinton to hide behind her pantsuit, two months before his re-election, Hussein damaged the Clintons politically.
As VDH puts most of the on going scandals like this article has done, it drives home the point that the only thing that Dims are concerned with is political power. And they will go to any costs to achieve it and once gained, to keep it. And I do mean any means at any cost. If your should disagree with them, they will attempt to destroy you with whatever they can. It´s really scary to think about.
I´m waiting for enough of us to ban together and exercise out 2nd amendment rights.
Sadly, VDH opens with a distorted IRS truth cooly parroted by IRS heads in times past. "The IRS is a system of voluntary compliance". Why open with those lines? Yeah, it´s voluntary. You sign and agree to forever testify against yourself. Most Amercians do it out of unexpressed fear of imprisonment. So much for propagandizing by Victor Davis Hansen. Bless his extraordinary intelligence and otherwise good intentions.
I don´t know who read my comments, but: STOP blaming commies/fascists for what they do! They don´t hide their goals - they are Transforming the countries! Some of them successfully (Russia, China come to mind), some not - Cambodia, Cuba... Blame repubics who are watching this and nod their collective "head". I am pi$$ed of of the collection of bushes, roves, boehners and robertses, to name the few. They were elected by us, suckers, to keep this country on track, according to the Constitution. But for one reason or another (maybe they are on the hook by commies for things they are afraid to let out of the bag) but this is us, poor schlobs, who are paying the price!
We went through the war with England. We went through the civil war. We went through the depression. We went through the dust bowl era. We have gone through WWI and WWII.
America is filled with men of determination. I just feel that the attempt to destroy this country is going to be bigger than anticipated. If idiots and self serving corrupt individuals are front and center, there are a lot of individuals who have invested heavily in this country and they are not going to go down without a huge fight.
A minor correction on ROME ~ there´s Ancient Rome, a nation state that kicked plenty of tail. There´s Classical Rome, an empire that found it useful to kick Jews around but otherwise went into a period of decline that lasted a good 1400 years!
Be careful to pick the right Rome for your analogies, else you´d think America was the only great nation to be merciful to enemies after a desolate war ~ Rome beat us to that in the Social Wars.
Ancient Rome was rather pagan and given to examining auguries to see which way things were going. Modern America at the top is nothing like Ancient Rome except with respect to auguries ~ we call them polls!
Classical Rome is more like Modern America except we don´t persecute Christians ~ but that´s coming if Mickey Weinstein has his way. In the end Christians took over Classical Rome.
I do my fair share of carping about Washington’s “elites,” say, for their free-spending ways or their reckless adventurism abroad. That said, when I speak to family and friends back in the Heartland, I usually dissent from at least some of the common epithets thrown at the inhabitants of the Beltway who claim to govern America. “Stupid,” “dumb,” “idiots,” and sometimes “clueless” are the typical pejoratives used. From my perspective only the last one is accurate. The denizens of Washington may live in an impenetrable bubble, but they are actually quite smart, well educated, top of their class, and… clueless
Frequent flyers left behind more than $500,000 at airport security checkpoints in 2012 — and now that huge chunk of money could find its way to deserving troops’ wallets. The U.S. House of Representatives voted Tuesday to pass a bill that donates to the United Service Organizations the combined loose change that travelers across the country forget to retrieve from airport security bins. The USO is a nonprofit benefitting members of the U.S. military and their families. While flyers usually remember to retrieve their computers, belts and other items required to be placed in bins before going through metal detectors at
George H.W. Bush´s legacy and greatest contribution to the American people may be his socks. And years from now, when the human race is enslaved by an alien race and hope dims, someone will look back on December 3, 2013 — the day the 41st president of the United States of America wore socks with his face emblazoned on them. Bush donned these magic socks on Tuesday when he accepted the Lyndon B. Johnson Foundation award in Houston for his public service and government career. Bush´s sartorial sock choice have been an object of fascination for the media. They´re some
At the corner of First and H Streets in Northwest Washington, the balloons were all set, hanging stories high in the cold morning air. The inflatable Pepsi and Mountain Dew bottles were twisting in the breeze, and a mini-hoop game was set up. There was even a marching band and Chester the Cheetos Cheetah. The time had finally come for Washington, D.C. — the last holdout in the lower 48 —to get its first two Walmart stores. In 1996, Vermont was the last state to go Walmart blue. Now it’s Washington’s turn, and four more stores are planned. Just before
PHILADELPHIA — The theme for Gov. Bobby Jindal’s remarks at the National Constitution Center Tuesday night was energy. After all, the governor comes from a state in which the energy industry employs thousands. What the governor delivered were stinging words for President Barack Obama and Congress on a wide range of issues. He talked a lot about energy, zeroing in on a pipeline controversy and failed federal investments in companies, such as electric carmaker Fisker. He accused the extremist left of fighting affordable energy. “They want the government to tell Americans to live in smaller houses, drive smaller cars, set
A local New York City politician and ally of mayor-elect Bill de Blasio says the recent spate of “knockout” attacks in Brooklyn may stem from “a genuine concern” about Jewish influence. Laurie Cumbo, the councilwoman-elect for the Brooklyn neighborhood of Crown Heights, made the comments in an open letter posted to her Facebook page. In the letter, Cumbo reports that many of her African-American constituents are alarmed by the growth of the local Jewish community. The resulting tension, she says, could have lead to a number of attacks on Jewish residents that bear the hallmarks of a “game” in which teens attempt
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
It appears the Oregon girl who was told she could not sell mistletoe in a public park, but could beg for money to pay for her braces, will be able to pay for dental work...and then some. Hundreds of mistletoe orders have poured in after reports of 11-year-old Madison Root being told by a security guard that she cannot sell the item at a public park, but she could, if she wanted to, beg for money, KATU.com reported. Root, who was selling the classic Christmas staple to earn enough money to pay for her new braces, also received $1,000 from a local
New York - Hackers have stolen usernames and passwords for nearly two million accounts at Facebook, Google, Twitter, Yahoo and others, according to a report released this week. The massive data breach was a result of keylogging software maliciously installed on an untold number of computers around the world, researchers at cybersecurity firm Trustwave said. The virus was capturing log-in credentials for key websites over the past month and sending those usernames and passwords to a server controlled by the hackers. On Nov. 24, Trustwave researchers tracked that server, located in the Netherlands. They discovered compromised credentials for more than 93,000 websites,
MEXICO CITY -- Mexican troops and federal police kept a nighttime watch on a rural field where thieves abandoned a stolen shipment of highly radioactive cobalt-60, while officials began planning the delicate task of recovering the dangerous material. Juan Eibenschutz, director general of the National Commission of Nuclear Safety and Safeguards, said late Wednesday that it could take at least two days to safely get the material into a secure container and transport it to a waste site. "It´s a very delicate operation," Eibenschutz said. "What´s important is that the material has been located and the place is being watched to guarantee
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., says he offered Scott Brown a free pass in the 2012 elections if the moderate GOP senator would back Democrats on a campaign-finance bill. "I went to Scott Brown and said, ´If you give us the 60th vote for the Citizens United rollback, we won´t go after you,´ " Schumer told The New Republic in an interview. "I spent a lot of time lobbying him, and met some of his friends and had them lobby him. He said yes. Then he said no. So I wanted to recruit the strongest candidate against him, and I thought that
NEW YORK CITY — The bill taxpayers will have to pay to protect Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly when he leaves office next month just got bigger. The NYPD´s Intelligence Division — with Kelly’s input — is recommending that Kelly take with him a 10-officer complement of taxpayer-funded bodyguards, up from the six-officer detail the commissioner had wanted last month. The detail will now include a lieutenant, three sergeants and six detectives to chauffeur and protect Kelly and his family around-the-clock in the Big Apple and even out of town after he ends his 12-year run atop Police Headquarters — at an estimated
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
MSNBC has announced that Chris Matthews, Barack Obama´s most excitable fan, will be interviewing the President on Thursday´s Hardball. Fawning over the liberal politician is incredibly common among journalists, but Matthews has taken it to a whole new level. According to the network host, Obama is a "perfect," "cool," brilliant figure who is comparable to Jesus, Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. The verbose Matthews has no filter when it comes to the Democrat, even once bizarrely blurting out that an Obama speech made him "forget" that the commander in chief "was black." To prepare you for the likely love-fest
Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
MSNBC´s Chris Matthews will interview President Barack Obama this Thursday, the network announced Tuesday. The interview is part of Matthews´ "Hardball College Tour," and will take place at American University in Washington, D.C. According to a news release from MSNBC, Matthews, along with university students, will "discuss a variety of topics with the president including voter suppression, healthcare, the decline of confidence in the government and the overall political dysfunction in Washington." On Monday our colleagues Carrie Budoff Brown and Jonathan Allen reported that the White House is launching a coordinated campaign to return attention to why the Affordable Care Act
The president put in his ask to Disney CEO Bob Iger at a private meeting with entertainment moguls during his Nov. 26 visit to Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation. [snip] If you have any doubt as to how much of a sports junkie Barack Obama is, check in with the entertainment moguls who attended a private briefing with the president Nov. 26 before his speech at Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation campus in Glendale. At the end of the conversation -- which touched on a myriad of topics, from piracy to Iran -- Obama revealed what´s at the top of his bucket
A new report from the Texas-based Quorum Report, published by longtime Texas journalist Harvey Kronberg, says that House Speaker John Boehner plans to push amnesty legislation through the House, after the primary filing deadline for candidates. The move would prevent Tea Party from challenging GOP lawmakers who support amnesty in 2014. Scott Braddock reported on Tuesday that “in recent weeks, various Texas business interests have told Quorum Report that Boehner has been telling them that he will start holding immigration votes not long after the filing deadline has passed.”
