In China, one-child policy compounds
loss of child for parents

Washington Post, by William Wan

PANJIN, China — It’s been 11 months, and Xu Min still rarely leaves the house. He spends his days on the couch in front of a TV, trying to block out memories of his dead son. He blames fate for the car accident that killed the 23-year-old in September. But for the loneliness that will haunt him and his wife the rest of their lives, Xu blames the Chinese government. China told the couple that they could have only one child and threatened to take away everything if they didn’t listen. They were good citizens, Xu said,

In the USA - or Europe, if you are a typical white urban libtard, one child (at most) is the norm.

According to the CIA factbook, in Japan and Korea, the typical number of children per woman is 1.2

Singapore is even lower.

My point is that most people are following a one-child policy thanks to the modern urban lifestyle. China simply codifies it.

Don’t Remember Barbara

Barbara Walters is a broadcasting doyenne, interviewer of greats, shatterer of glass ceilings. But the daily screechfest of The View is not the best vehicle for her with which to say goodbye. The audience was still cheering reverently for Barbara Walters on Tuesday’s edition of The View, the day after her announcement that May 16 would mark her final day presenting the ABC morning show. Her hair its usual whipped and spun golden halo, Walters came out of the wings, gingerly high-fived some folk in the audience, before her fellow host Whoopi Goldberg reminded us of her momentous imminent farewell

GOP lawmakers believe over

Republicans are demanding greater transparency on how much the administration spent to promote and implement Obamacare — and hitting back at President Obama´s claim that he “didn´t make a hard sell.” The new effort comes after Obama´s claim that the administration met its goal of enrolling more than 7 million people without spending billions. “We didn´t make a hard sell,” Obama said. “We didn´t have billions of dollars to spend on commercials like our critics did.” But both Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill estimate the administration has spent roughly $4 to 5 billion to get the Affordable Care Act running, including hundreds

Despite the Obama administration´s insistence that everyone -- the government, insurance companies, doctors, medical providers, and consumers -- will reap benefits from Obamacare, a recent grant proposal by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) suggests that the agency does have concerns about the ongoing financial viability of one player in the health care market: so-called family planning centers. HHS intends to spend up to $800,000 to fund studies to "conduct data analysis and related research and evaluation on the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on Title X funded family planning centers." At least part of the concern

Of all the cheap thrills that life affords, self-righteousness is one of the grossest: A moment on the lips, forever on the hips, with a moral weight for which the only relief is repentance. The boys of online dating site OkCupid should be feeling the bloat right now. Their site played a role in last week´s purge of Mozilla´s Brendan Eich, when they hectored visitors to stop using the Firefox browser because Mr. Eich donated money to a 2008 California referendum in favor of reserving marriage for a man and woman. This is a bad morning. I was greeted by a headline in the New York Times that said Defense Secretary “Chuck Mullet” Hagel was planning to submit a budget to Congress to cut the size of the military to a level not seen since 1940, before the U.S. entered World War II. The article went on to say that the Pentagon realized that this would be an inadequate force for even very small wars and certainly would not allow the U.S. to police the world and keep control of contingencies like a North Korean attack on the South or a Chinese

Since 1941, comic book fans have followed the exploits of teenaged Archie Andrews and his friends. This July, they´ll find out how he dies. "Life With Archie" #36 hits stores on July 16, and CNN can reveal exclusively that it tells the story of how Archie sacrifices himself to save a friend. Few details are known, but it seems fitting that Archie would go out a hero. The 37th issue one week later will end the series. The "Life With Archie" series has been telling the stories of possible future Archie scenarios for the past few years, and so Archie will continue to

Jeb’s Jejune Swoon: Why did Jeb Bush say those provocative, seemingly jejune things about illegal border crossing being “not a felony” but ” an act of love? Obviously it’s what he actually thinks. But, again, why did he say it? Two theories: 1) He’s running in 2016 and thinks he can compensate for giving amnesty to all the illegal border crossers (mainly from Mexico) by cracking down and even deporting visa-overstayers (who aren’t so much from Latin America).(Snip)2) He’s not running, but he’s making space for Marco Rubio. A few weeks ago, the liberal comedian Bill Maher and conservative strategist and pundit Bill Kristol had a brief spat on Maher’s HBO show, putatively over what instigated the tea party but ultimately over the psychic wound that has divided red America and blue America in the Obama years. When friends and family members gathered recently at the White House for a private celebration of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday, one of the invited partygoers was a former paid FBI Mafia informant. That same man attended February’s state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."

Camp, R-Mich., did not specify which laws Lerner may have broken. Lerner´s lawyer, William W. Taylor III, has said she broke no laws.
