GM cuts 13 percent off
price of Volt electric car

Associated Press, by Staff

DETROIT - General Motors is knocking 13 percent off the sticker price of the Chevrolet Volt electric car as it tries to keep pace with rivals in the market for plug-in vehicles.Sales of electric vehicles are rising, but they´re still only 0.2 percent of the U.S. auto market. Automakers have been forced to cut prices or offer discounted leases in order to move the vehicles off dealer lots. The automaker said Tuesday that the 2014 Volt will start at $34,995, including shipping - $5,000 less than the current model

Comments:
A desperate move to get these electric roller skates off the lot. $35K is still too steep for the average guy in a floundering 0bamaconomy.

When viewed from the current state of the thermodynamics of electrical generation and utilization, the Volt automobile is similar to the voracious plant in "The Little Shop of Horrors."

At every point of electrical generation, transmission, conversion (from AC to DC), storage and then control and consumption in a motor to turn a wheel (mechanical motion), there an energy loss of 8 to 20 percent. There is no way the world is ready for the extravagance of energy use that electric vehicles of this type can be widely used.

The type of analysis needed to evaluate this concept is not taught in the schools the people in Washington have attended or even know about.

Excellent point, #3, that no low-info consumer/voter could ever be made to understand. Put a gallon of fuel in a Nissan Altima and it will travel 35 miles; burn that same gallon of fuel in a power plant and the resulting DC current flowing from the battery of an electric vehicle might move it 3-4 feet. The biggest waste of a natural resource ever devised.

Except that the first effort turned out to be both very reliable and quite inexpensive. This is history repeating, but this time with a braindead product of affirmative action, a do-nothing layabout who never accomplished anything of real value in his entire life, a moron who wouldn´t know a good idea if it jumped up and down on his table holding a sign saying "I AM A GOOD IDEA" in charge of things.

Osama bin Laden´s son-in-law, the voice of fiery al-Qaida propaganda videotapes after the Sept. 11 attacks, was convicted Wednesday of conspiring to kill Americans for his role as the terror group´s spokesman. The verdict came after about five hours of deliberation in the case against Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, the highest-ranking al-Qaeda figure to face trial on U.S. soil since the attacks. The Kuwaiti imam had testified during a three-week trial that he answered bin Laden´s request in the hours after the attacks to speak on the widely circulated videos used to recruit new followers willing to go on suicide missions like

When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor.
