In an exclusive interview for The Grio, NBCUniversal’s African-American news and opinion website, Oprah Winfrey weighed in with her unvarnished thoughts on the killing of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman. Winfrey said that, in her mind, Martin’s murder and that of Emmett Till in 1955 – whose killers were also acquitted – were the “same thing.” However, she added that it is important to keep in mind how much race relations in America have progressed over the last half-century. In a clip of the interview which aired on NBC’s Today, Oprah told The Grio’s Chris
Comments: Any pretense that she may have had is gone that she is not as big a racist as Sharpton and the rest of those miscreants. She is all in. There´s no turning back now. She and her outrageous comparison completely disgust me. I look forward to that comparison of the group of black men in Tennessee who tortured and murdered that white couple. s/o
She is racist ..it´s just concealed ,the same as her messiah Obama. The guilt ridden libs get some sort of internal absolution from their Oprah/Obama worship. The msm and the liberal universities have done a masterful job at pure brainwashing feeble minded white folks to assume the mantle of guilt for slavery
this points out the fear of dealing with blacks, business-wise or sociably. When push comes down to shove, will color trump all? I understand this is not universal, but it appears to happen enough to give you pause...
It´s been said that Opera is a consummate reader. Did she read any of the in depth reports or artcles about this case? Maybe even catch a glimpse of it on the news? Or is she just shootin´ off her mouth?? If your going to be stupid about somethng keep thy mouth shut!
I agree with #8. Over the last four years I have seen open anger and hate. The chip on the shoulder has become a log and is no longer hidden. I see no goodwill, and have doors to stores slammed in my face. No courtesy, downright hostility towards an elderly stranger entering a store/bank behind them. Make eye contact with a young one and hatred shows in their eyes.
There is only so much that can be done for race relationships from one side. Politicians have bent over backwards to ensure equality, in some cases to swing it in favor of blacks. The vast majority of whites have thrown off their prejudices. But until the black community gathers itself up and joins the rest of the world and loses it´s gang banger image there will never be equality. White people do not lock their car doors because a black man crosses the street near them, they do it because a thug that looks like they would just as soon kill them as look at them crosses the street. There is a big difference, the latter is not prejudice, it is common sense.
She has always been a racist. She said years ago that one thing that makes her happy is that she has all these white people who work for her. She can tell them what to do. I´ve always thought she is a complete phony, with her phony history just like the president.
A black Chicago teen makes immoral suggestions of a sexual nature to a married black woman of 21 in 1950s Chicago, or 2013 Chicago, ends up dead... not news.
A white Chicago teen doing the same in a southern town in the 1950s with a married white woman of 21... the same result was possible. The outraged husband protecting his fearful wife.
Race would not have been considered a factor in either case, but the nation was ready for a dramatic story of racial injustice. Something to allow them to feel more righteous than "those southern racist whites!" So the race of the teenager became the center of the story.
So just what qualifies the race baiting Madame Winfrey as an"expert" on the Emmett Till tragedy?...When it happened in the Summer of 1955, young Oprah Gail was still in diapers running around her grandmother Hattie Mae´s Mississippi farm.
Emmett Till is a long time ago, when there were white and black beaches and water foundtains, when blacks couldn´t find a hotel or motel room, when they couldn´t go into many restaurants....Oprah is ridiculous with this comparison. Like Hillary would say, Emmett Till was so long ago.
Oprah is an idiot and a phony, too. She went to a majority white high school and trained herself to speak like a white American. She lives among mainly white people and had a mostly white audience when she was on TV. But now, she is worried about "our people." Did she watch the trial? Would she ever associate with someone like Rachel Jeantel? Didn´t think so.
Now Op-rah give us your racial opinion on the black teenager who with cold and vicious intent shot a white baby in the face setting in his stroller. What did that baby do to the poor downtrodden black teen? It´s not our fault the black community is shrinking in the US and you will never become the master race. We don´t do 90% of the abortions and we don´t have daily shoot and kill events in the streets ---. If you have any influence at all make the black life better and quit bitching while you pile up the money.
OW has been a huge racist from her very beginnings. Her associaion with the Obamas has been hysterical in the comedy and the betrayal of it. She´s such a "Black", same as Øbama and his "Wookie". they can´t escape their skin and that´s a shame. she says we should remember how far race relations have come in America since ´55 when Till was murdered, and then she does all she can to tear apart that progress? She´s pretty much making no sense, which tells me she´s speaking from a pressure place- the Black Racists have been pushing her to form an anti-white stance to reinforce the black base that has been evaporating under the Øbama´s- so, this is how she satisfies that bunch of "Black Sheets". Oh, well.
he first two months of Obamacare created a rare convergence between supporters and opponents of the law: Everyone agreed that the rollout was a disaster. The consensus reached all the way up to President Obama himself, who went so far as to list the "poor execution on my administration’s part" alongside the GOP´s "reckless shutdown" as reasons that "frustrations with Washington are at an all-time high." It was like an Obamacare miracle. But with HealthCare.gov improving, the convergence is ending. For Obamacare´s supporters, the IT problems really were IT problems. Now that the Web site is working the law will
Kanye West speaking with SaturdayNightOnline.com host Garrett, West Saturday night “Like, I’m just giving of my body on the stage; I’m putting my life at risk, literally!” “When I think about when I’m on the ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing,’ and ‘Coldest Winter’ moment, like that mountain goes really, really high. And if I slipped… You never know. And I think about it. I think about my family and I’m like, wow, this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something.”
Kevin Kolbye, Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Dallas, served as the on-scene commander for the Benghazi investigation but has not yet testified before Congress about what he knows. Republican Congressman Frank Wolf wants to know why. Kolbye addressed the GovSec West Conference in Dallas in late November and discussed various aspects of the Benghazi investigation with attendees. During his presentation, Kolbye noted that, contrary to initial reports, FBI assets were on the scene in Benghazi within a few days after the attack. Breitbart News reported that story when it broke.
On Sunday, a media reporter for the Washington Post said he believed that MSNBC had fired host Martin Bashir because conservatives were relentless and did not quit in hammering Bashir and MSNBC for Bashir´s suggestion that someone should urinate and defecate in the mouth of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Bashir resigned from MSNBC last week, nearly a month after he made his scripted remarks on his MSNBC program. Appearing on CNN´s Reliable Sources with host Brian Stelter, the Post´s Paul Farhi said "the outrage was from the right, the idea that Sarah Palin and, by the way, a woman, obviously was
Firebrand Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman on Monday mounted a surprise primary challenge to Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), setting the stage for the latest potentially explosive battle between a tea party darling and an incumbent firmly backed by the GOP establishment. Stockman, a far-right conservative who has called for the president’s impeachment, filed for the seat minutes before the 6 p.m. local deadline, confirmed Spencer Yeldell, a spokesman for the Republican Party of Texas. Cornyn — with cash-on-hand clocking in at nearly $7 million — is still the heavy favorite, but Stockman’s entry into the race could force
On Monday, the National Journal reported that "documents filed by other groups show that two labor organizations, the International Union of Operating Engineers and the Laborers´ International Union of North America, directed a combined $400,000 to the Republican group [the Defending Main Street super PAC] in September and October." The Defending Main Street super PAC was organized at the end of 2012 by former Congressman Steve LaTourette (R-OH), and has very publicly declared war on the Tea Party. It is affiliated with and has offices at the same location as the Republican Main Street Project, which LaTourette currently
New York Republican Rep. Peter King, who has been vocal about his interest in running for president in 2016, won´t shy away from a fight with another tough-talking Northeastern politician. “You should ask Chris Christie if me being in the race disqualifies him," King told City & State when asked whether the New Jersey governor´s likely candidacy will preclude his own. King announced his interest in the race earlier this year but hasn´t yet made an official decision to enter, and many observers believe Christie´s candidacy would overshadow King´s, as they´re both tough-taking moderate Republicans from neighboring states. King has so far
George Zimmerman´s defense lawyer has asked a judge to allow him to see his girlfriend, who has recanted the domestic violence allegations which led to his arrest last month, new court documents show. The apparent about-face by Zimmerman´s girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, throws his latest criminal case into doubt, leaving prosecutors to reassess whether or not to pursue charges. "I want to be with George," Scheibe says in a sworn statement which accompanies a new motion. She adds: "I do not want George Zimmerman charged. I make this decision freely, knowingly and voluntarily, without any intimidation coercion or undue
Controversial House Democrat Alan Grayson lost $18 million as part of a criminal scheme run by a Virginia man that bilked more than 100 investors out of more than $35 million, according to federal court documents. William Dean Chapman, 44, of Sterling, Va.,was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison on Friday. Chapman pled guilty to one count of wire fraud in May, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Virginia, which oversaw the case. Chapman was the founder and owner of Alexander Capital Markets. Customers would give their stock holdings to Chapman as collateral for loans. Chapman
President Barack Obama is bringing his family of aides and advisors down to South Africa for Nelson Mandela’s mass-media send-off. “For us it’s the President and the First Lady, the Attorney General [Eric Holder], Susan Rice, Valerie Jarrett,” Ben Rhodes, the White House’ deputy national security advisor for strategic communications, told reporters during an impromptu press conference on Air Force One. Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry are staying behind, but former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was on board Air Force One as well. The memorial is expected to be attended by hundreds of world
For the last few weeks, the media has been having a quiet debate about whether or not to take a stand against using official White House photos in protest against being shut out of many White House events. On Monday, MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd took things a step further, calling the limited press access “a version of propaganda.” Todd qualified that statement to make it clear he’s not saying this is out-and-out, overt propaganda, but argued it does come across to people as such when outside photographers aren’t allowed access. AP photojournalist Charlie Dharapak agreed, adding that it’s a “visual press
Many of the city’s major clothing stores tried to defuse the “shop and frisk” scandal on Monday by agreeing to an anti-profiling policy demanded by civil-rights activists led by the Rev. Al Sharpton. Barneys, Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and the Gap are among the retailers that promised to post and abide by a “Customers’ Bill of Rights” in the wake of allegations that some black shoppers were targeted for questioning by cops after purchasing pricey items. The move followed a sluggish start to the Christmas shopping season, which is unusually short this year due to late date
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Call me Grinch, call me Scrooge. Call me Lord Voldemort of the Yuletide. None could be worse than sending me a holiday card with glossy photographs of your lovely, smiling family. My wife, Emily, and I place your cards like trophies on our shelves, continuing an old-school practice that began about 175 years ago as a way of maintaining relationships as families and friends moved far and wide. Today’s cards may appear more personalized — with photos of spouses, kids and pets, and distribution lists much smaller than a sprawling collection of Facebook friends. But when I flip over the photo
Chris Matthews is crazy. Nevertheless, when left-wingers talk openly with one another, their craziness can be revealing. That is the case, I think, with this remarkable MSNBC clip. Matthews, fresh from his kneepad interview with President Obama, praises what he terms a uniquely brilliant insight by Al Sharpton: South Africa’s white politicians of the apartheid era were more patriotic than today’s Republicans: I haven’t heard anything as smart as what I heard Reverend Sharpton say a moment go in five years. The difference between the way F.W. de Klerk handled the need for change and the election – democratic election
