The Cringing Superpower
National Review Online, by Mark Steyn

Original Article

Posted By:Dreadnought, 8/4/2013 9:50:53 PM

Today, across Africa, Araby and Asia, from Nouakchott to Dhaka, the diplomatic facilities of the United States are closed. There’s a Tsarnaev out there, somewhere – could be the Mahgreb, the Levant, the Horn of Africa, the Indian sub-continent – who knows? So, as Richard Fernandez writes, “Shelter in place, this time globally.” Maybe it will work. Maybe by the end of the day there will be, unlike Benghazi a year on, men in custody. But if not? Daniel Pipes: Don’t know about you, but I find this pre-emptive cringing unworthy of a great country, even humiliating.

Why are the skies over Islam not dark with Predator drones, heavily armed and hunting for anything that looks, smells or talks like an Islamic terrorist?
It´s because the Muslim Brother in Darktown is on duty.

With this administration, I believe it is possible that they are over playing this as a distraction. Obama is such a nanny state kind of guy that he might think this is good politics.

The civilized world is populated by lemmings.
The uncivilized are living in large part from our foreign aid, to turn around and use it to annihilate the hand that feeds them.
To cringe in place is not a good place to be and totally unnecessary.
We are being governed (ruled) by a heartless, headless, politically-appointed menagerie.

Remember the color threats that the Bush administration used to warn of the level of threat?

Oh, the O administration ridiculed and then retired those colored threat levels.

Now we need them as a clear indication that we should be on alert.

Instead we have this mish mash of babble coming from susan rice of ´it´s the video´ fame.

Nothing says superpower like our embassies being closed and our President vacationing. There was a time when no military on this Earth would threaten this country for fear of the consequences of those actions. Now, a bunch of seventh century barbarians are able to force our embassies to "shelter in place". We did not have the will to do what was necessary after September 11, 2001. We should have flattened Afghanistan and promised more of the same if we were ever attacked again. Rinse and repeat. Problem solved. Lives saved. Now we enable them to the point where we cower at their threats. Shameful.

The cult of liars and wimps in the administration along with kowtowing DEM senate and conceding house of too many RINOs
are the cancer eating away the strength of our foundation of our Constitution.
November 5 2014 is the day to burn out the

I had the identical reaction to this:

How is that not a victory for our enemies – and one bought without having to blow up a single thing?.

I too find our "cringing" unseemly. Were it not for the world´s perception of America as weak, none of this would be happening. And we are perceived as weak because of this POTUS and this cringing Administration, which is fine with bullying its own citizens into submission with Obamacare, the IRS and the NSA, but somehow can´t scrounge up the courage to seek and destroy those who have sworn to do likewise to us.

I´m sick to my stomach over what Obama has done to America. Can you imagine this happening under Bush or Reagan?

After Benghazi Obama knows that another attack on one of our embassies would be considered an act of war by Al Qaeda. Obama would rather play the part of a coward rather than militarily declare war on Al Qaeda, because Al Qaeda is dead, per Obama´s earlier proclamations.

Our country is still great. Our president and his little friends are not, nor have they ever been. What does anyone expect from the crew who deliberately and maliciously made the Middle East safe for the Muslim Brotherhood? And who with their usual Stalinist cynicism dubbed the mess "The Arab Spring?" This is not cringing, it is deliberate surrender to Obama´s radical Muslim buddies.

The enabler makes it easier for the drunk to stay drunk. Mark’s brilliant, "Pre-emptive cringing" while with the "boys only" at Camp David. This vindictive WON will do ANYthing shocking to take the heat off Benghazi, IRS and NSA dictatorships, Obamacide, his fake birth certificate, no college records, printing fake dollars out of thin air to give soley to corrupted banks to hide in their vaults, ANYthing to distract. This really is a sad state of affairs. 0bama puffs out his chest a while back and brags about killing Osama Bin Laden and he pounds on his chest and says Al Qaeda is on the run. When four brave Americans are killed in Benghazi, 0bama and his administration do NOTHING. They do not investigate for months, as he said it was just too dangerous. Not one person was brought to justice. Al Qaeda murdered four of our bravest, and 0bama did nothing. What a display of weakness from our country; such weakness makes the Al Qaeda rabid with aggression, because they know they can do whatever they want, and 0bama will do nothing, but close the embassies and head out for a game of golf, very sad indeed, and I fear what is to come.

Cringe is only the beginning. Remember the last time the Left became orgasmically joyous with incontrollable smugness: when the US was defeated in Vietnam. They are still orgasmic about that, though only more quietly so. They hoped they could pull another one with W, but weren´t able to muster enough sympathy for al-Qaeda to tip the scales like they had with the Viet Cong. But US defeats are what they salivate for, and the more "progressive" the more saliva. Cringe is only Step One in their sick minds.

It seems like our Islamic based enemies have won at least a short-term psychological battle by frightening the Obama crew enough to essentially shut down its official presence in Muslim lands, even if the shutdown only lasts a week.

Obviously the terrorists will not directly attack as long as they recognize that all those official facilities are on an alert looking for such an attack, as that is not how the tactic of terrorism works.

What happens in a few weeks after the smoke clears, and the radical Islamists fire off some more "chatter" does Obama again close up shop, maybe for two weeks?

Anyway when all that is going on, what does Obama do, he goes on vacation!

It´s easy to count at least three ulterior motives of Obozo on this one: White flag to Al Qaeda, distraction from more revelations on Benghazi/IRS, stick in the eye-response to US citizens over Benghazi last year, etc. Some of the pundits, even on Fox are saying this is just oh so clever on his part. ha ha. Well we´ll just see how clever a fool is.

If the embassies are not attacked between now and Sept 11, the admin will say what we did worked and cowering in place is the way to go, if the embassies are attacked they will say, "see, we did right on duty to retreat and only property damage, no loss of life, we are still respected-SEE?!", if the embassies are attacked shortly after they are reopened the admin won´t say much but Al Quada will give an implicit hat tip for letting them know our hours of operation.

The liberals and "progressivies" among us are always quick to say that war never solves anything. Well, if I recall my history correctly, we solved a lot of things with Germany and Japan during WWII. And I also know that these 7th century cretins running around the middle east respect nothing except force. So, it they respect force, why don´t we give them a huge amount of respect?

An apt title for the article, however perhaps more aptly, the cringing president hiding everywhere but in the White House.

Remember this quote: Obama Claims ´We Made Sure Al Qaeda Can’t Attack Us Again´ Right After They Attacked Us.

He sent an armed force into Pakistan to kill an old man by proxy before the statement above. We saw the photo shopped pictures of the President sitting in an oversized school chair playing ´me big time´ in what was a laughable political picture.

Now as the article states we are acting out the cringing Superpower. There isn´t anything verifiable about this president, except for the pictures of his stoned age. He´s merely a figurehead for a combination of Marxist and Muslim organizations.

The truth is that if Organizations like NSA, FBI, TSA and the IRS would stop spying on the American public, and start spying on every terrorist group, we wouldn´t have to pee our pants every time someone looks at us cross eyed.

Forget about bills to disarm American citizens and granting criminals citizenship who willfully violated our immigration laws. Job one for the House should be the impeachment of this President for violating the Constitution in untold ways. Do that and maybe gain some trust back from the people who pay the way.

Decimating our military means we cannot protect our interest at home or abroad. Oh, the Sequester, my error. In Obama´s mind, 100 ( the baseline year ) plus 9( this year ), instead of 10, equals 96, rather then 109. That´s what he learned at Occidental and Columbia. A math whiz he is not and he is using his genius to harm as many things U>S> as possible. Always blaming the Sequester,or the GOP, or the Climate, or anything but himself, which is a joke. Unfortunately , He is not just a joke, because of the damage he causes. My opinion.

How can the Embassies ever be safely reopened ?
All Barry´s public Chicken Little act has done is to make the terrorists postpone their attacks.
The idea that the POTUS would golf, giggle
and party with his real wife , Reggie Love,
during the most specific terror warning
since 9/11 goes beyond bizarre and directly into dereliction.
Was Jay- Z taking Barry´s place at the emergency National Security meeting at the White House ?
Eating birthday cake with Reggie at Camp David trumped being present at this important meeting .
Even more disgusting is that not a single member
of the non FOX media will report on Barry´s absence
during yet another crisis.
On Christmas Day 2009 when the Nigerian terrorist tried to detonate an underwear bomb on the inbound Northwest Airlines flight , Obama was with the Mrs ( that would be Reggie ) on vacation in Hawaii.
They did not notify him about the terror attack for 3 hours.
December 25, 2009
" White House spokesman Bill Burton said Friday that Obama, on vacation in Hawaii, was informed of the incident about three hours
after the plane landed."
Barry went to bed during the Benghazi disaster .
" President Obama was notified last night that U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens was unaccounted for. Obama was notified this morning
of Stevens´ death, the White House said."
This guys sleeps and parties through crisis after crisis and that´s just what we know about.
A Republican would have had Articles of Impeachment drafted against him years ago.

#34, interesting points...

Nero supposedly "fiddled" while Rome burned.

We have "Nero with a G", an affirmative action hire who is incompetent and dangerous,
paryting while the barbarians are at the gates here.

It will take whatever length of time to see how this current alert status plays out.
I do not draw any conclusions about it, it´s still ongoing.

But our playboy president (playing sports and games with boys, not scoring chicks)
only knows how to waste time, energy and money on his pastimes.
He is, after all, The Historic First Black President... and thus in his mind a GAWD.
He´s so Right... he is incapable of any wrong.

(It is only prudent to close embassies if needed... and as needed. Just common sense.)
(The rest of the story will come out in due course.)

Yep, #34.

If the threats were real (which I doubt), a serious President would send as many Marines, Rangers, Special Forces, Blackwater /Xe/Academi etc. to secure the Embassies... Call out the 82nd and 101st if necessary.

Either that, or shut down the embassies and pull out of those Third World hellholes permanently.

OK, 1) The islamo-terrorists "chatter"...
2) We shut down 12 embassies.

This solves the problem exactly how? If they chatter again, do we shut them down again? How many times will we repeat this? If they bomb the embassies while they are shut down, did we "win"?

I´m confused. This is SO complicated. I´m so thankful our betters are thinking this through for us.

Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. The Obama administration said Friday that it would block Iran’s nominee as ambassador to the United Nations from entering the United States, setting up a new confrontation with Tehran just as relations with the Islamic republic appeared to be improving. The decision to bar entry to the diplomat, who was allegedly involved in the 1979 seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, followed intense political pressure on the administration from Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill. But it also marked a rare instance in which Washington has effectively vetoed another country’s preferred choice as envoy to the United Nations. Iran

Struggling homeowners across the country could face significant new tax bills if they receive mortgage relief from their banks, a prospect that threatens to slow the housing recovery and put further strain on distressed borrowers. The collapse of the housing market and plunging home prices left millions of people stuck owing more on their mortgages than their homes were worth. Some have worked with their banks to reduce the loan amount to avoid foreclosure or enable a sale. In 2007, Congress adopted a law that spared those homeowners from being taxed on the amount of the loan that was forgiven. But

On Thursday, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius resigned her position. The New York Times reported the resignation as a punishment for failure: Officials said Ms. Sebelius, 65, made the decision to resign and was not forced out. The House Oversight Committee has voted to hold former IRS subpotentate Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress, while the House Ways and Means Committee has referred her case to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution. The facts in the case suggest very strongly that Ms. Lerner has earned the contempt of the American people as well as criminal prosecution to the full extent of the law. The question of whether Justice will do justice now rests with the Obama administration, in service to which Ms. Lerner organized and oversaw the repression of nonprofit activists under color of IRS authority. With the rocky rollout of his health care law in a post-deadline lull, President Obama will move this week to shake up his health care team, accepting the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and tapping his budget director as a troubleshooting replacement, the White House confirmed Thursday. Mrs. Sebelius, a former Kansas governor who has served as HHS secretary for Mr. Obama’s entire tenure, was the president’s point person as his signature law stumbled out of the blocks in October. Despite calls for her to be fired, Mrs. Sebelius stayed on the job to oversee a

A few weeks ago, with no notice, the U.S. government intercepted Mary Grice’s tax refunds from both the IRS and the state of Maryland. Grice had no idea that Uncle Sam had seized her money until some days later, when she got a letter saying that her refund had gone to satisfy an old debt to the government — a very old debt. When Grice was 4, back in 1960, her father died, leaving her mother with five children to raise. Until the kids turned 18, Sadie Grice got survivor benefits from Social Security to help feed and clothe them.

Two months ago, a petition bearing more than 110,000 signatures was delivered to The Post, demanding a ban on any article questioning global warming. The petition arrived the day before publication of my column, which consisted of precisely that heresy. The column ran as usual. But I was gratified by the show of intolerance because it perfectly illustrated my argument that the left is entering a new phase of ideological agitation — no longer trying to win the debate but stopping debate altogether, banishing from public discourse any and all opposition. The proper word for that attitude is totalitarian. It

Attorney General Eric Holder must be suffering from a sort of amnesia. He is upset at supposed divisiveness and rudeness directed at him when testifying before Congress, and suggests not too subtly that he and President Obama have been accorded inordinately harsh treatment (fill in the blanks why). Aside from the fact that he seemed to have relished the combat with Representative Gohmert in quite unprofessional tones (“you don’t want to go there, buddy, alright?”/ “good luck with your asparagus”), he seems to forget what former attorney general Alberto Gonzales once endured both in the liberal media and before Democrats

If you have not yet heard, Brandeis University has rescinded its offer of an honorary degree to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Somali-born activist whose work has focused on the barbaric misogyny rampant in Islamic societies like the one in which she was raised—and whose efforts to call attention to them as a legislator in the Netherlands led to a political crisis there and her eventual flight to the United States. Given that it only takes a Google search to find out everything one would need to know about her, including the controversial aspects of her views, it is disgustingly laughable

Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Hillary Clinton was the planned keynote speaker at the 17th Annual Western Healthcare Leadership Academy in San Diego on April 11 - but she´s cancelled her visit in the midst of planned protests from San Diego locals and military families. Protestors organized by "The Difference Matters" do not want the former U.S. Secretary of State to come because of Clinton´s role in the Benghazi scandal. "She is not welcome here in San Diego by so many of us. We don´t want her here," said Jan Iverson, a local mother and protestor. (Snip) Clinton´s office says she changed plans because of

Legislatures are in a far better position than judges to assess the

A Nevada cattle rancher appears to have won his week-long battle with the federal government over a controversial cattle roundup that had led to the arrest of several protesters. Cliven Bundy went head to head with the Bureau of Land Management over the removal of hundreds of his cattle from federal land, where the government said they were grazing illegally. Bundy claims his herd of roughly 900 cattle have grazed on the land along the riverbed near Bunkerville, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, since 1870 and threatened a "range war" against the BLM on the Bundy Ranch website after one of

Recently elected Democratic Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is warning that global warming could raise sea levels high enough to flood the Hampton Roads region, home to the world´s largest naval base, without immediate and “smart decisions.” Addressing an environmental summit this week at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va., McAuliffe embraced climate change, blamed humans for causing it, and said action is needed now to protect Virginia´s coast from rising ocean levels that will result from global warming. “The first big decision of course is to accept that climate change is real,” he told the group. “I happen to believe in

Who throws a shoe? Honestly! That would be 36-year-old Alison Ernst of Phoenix, Arizona, who was charged Thursday night with disorderly conduct by the Las Vegas Police Department after allegedly throwing a shoe at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. According to NBC News, who spoke with a Secret Service official, the U.S. Attorney’s office has declined federal prosecution. Ernst was wearing shoes on Thursday night when she attended a speech Clinton was giving in Las Vegas, but apparently brought an extra one specifically to throw at the former secretary of state. The official said the incident appeared to be “premeditated.”

President Obama stood Friday with the Rev. Al Sharpton and accused Republicans of trying to keep millions of Americans from voting, in a fiery speech days after new revelations about Sharpton’s past as an FBI informant. “The right to vote is threatened today in a way that it has not been since the Voting Rights Act became law nearly five decades ago,” Obama told the annual convention of Sharpton’s National Action Network in Manhattan. Obama’s appearance represented a presidential seal of approval of Sharpton’s role as a civil rights activist, amid the new revelations about how Sharpton used a wire to record

Nearly a year into the IRS scandal, we still don´t know exactly what happened—though we are finally getting an inkling. That´s thanks to the letter House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp sent this week to the Justice Department recommending a criminal probe of Lois Lerner. The average citizen might be dizzied by the torrent of confusing terms—BOLO lists, Tigta, 501(c)(4)—and the array of accusations that have made up this IRS investigation. Mr. Camp´s letter takes a step back to remind us why this matters, even as it provides compelling new information that goes to motive and method—and clarifies some of

As President Obama spoke of old "wounds” at Fort Hood this week, the White House declined a request from a survivor of the 2009 massacre there to meet with Obama for a few minutes so the veteran could explain face-to-face how he believes the government has mistreated and disrespected the victims of that attack. Staff Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford (ret.) was shot seven times in November 2009 when Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Hasan opened fire at Fort Hood, killing 13 people. STAMFORD, Conn. — Jeb Bush defended his controversial comments about immigration reform, insisting they were nothing new for him and urging “sensitivity to the immigrant experience.” At a Connecticut Republican party dinner Thursday night, the former Republican governor of Florida did not repeat his remarks from last weekend at his father’s presidential library, when he said that people who come to the United States illegally in search of a better life for their children “broke the law, but it’s not a felony. It’s an act of love.” This time the potential 2016 candidate put it differently. “To be young and

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is now accusing the Keystone pipeline of being a cancer risk. Her first point was that the pipeline “will bring 830,000 barrels of dirty tar sands oil into our nation every day.” She then segued to point #2 by asserting that the heavy tar sands oil will put people who live near refineries at risk for cancer: Significantly higher levels of dangerous air pollutants and carcinogens have been documented downwind from tar sands refineries, and in these areas people are suffering higher rates of the types of cancers linked to these toxic chemicals, including leukemia and
