Conservatives: don´t despair of our
corrupted, decadent age. Write about it

Telegraph (U.K.), by Tim Stanley

Original Article

Posted By:Drive, 8/2/2013 7:38:17 AM

On November 25, 1970, writer Yukio Mishima and four of his friends paid a visit to the commandant of the Tokyo camp of Japan´s eastern army. After the commandant poured tea, things turned weird. The visitors tied the officer to his chair, took him hostage and demanded that entire camp gather beneath his balcony. When the soldiers were assembled, Mishima extolled them to hold a coup to restore the authority of the emperor. The audience laughed. Realising that he was getting nowhere, Mishima knelt down on the floor and committed ritual suicide

I always thought this era was ripe for fiction. At least keep a journal; you´ll be glad you did if for no other reason than to prove what crooks we have in DC.

Interesting article. Loaded with good examples and clear purpose. I agree that we need to be proactive in our response to the lost world around us and write, draw, paint, compose music..do whatever one can do to create an artistic record of events. And, do it without using degrading representations. Raise the bar and elevate the conversation. That is what conservatives can do. Let´s get moving!

This is why media of all types is dead: in the public sphere there is no elevation of morality, nothing is worshiped except the self. Writers cannot write because they have no knowledge of right and wrong. Film makers are caught up in images, not people and the struggles they endure. There is no such thing as character, pureness of heart, innocence. We have elevated 3rd world thinking and denigrated Western Civilization. A turnaround will take 50 years.

Tim Stanley writes a brilliant and timely philosophical piece. Mishima was known as "Yesterday´s Dreamer." Perhaps some of us are, too. He hated all he saw in post-war Japan and longed for the traditionalism, the purity of a bygone era. His hara-kiri was a call to restore the glory of the Japanese military but the Self Defense Forces weren´t interested. He was booed, heckled and ultimately he failed in his attempt to revive nationalism.
The lesson is obvious: Since Mishima was such a powerful writer, he should have used his pen to appeal to the Japanese people, not his sword.
L-Dotters are bright and lively wordsmiths. I agree. Let´s MOVE!

Yes, let us all use our talents for writing and any others that are so apparent by many posters on LCom. I am not talking about the negative nellies...but the Believers who know the power of prayer and can ask God to use their writing, etc for His glory. Most of us know not to look to man/politics to pin our hopes upon...and most of us know who the Enemy is...and most of us can recognize when the Enemy is using others to harm us. Still and all that is not important. We can indeed turn our eyes upon the Lord and remember He is our Savior, Hope, Door, Truth and Light. I may just have to dust off my unfinished writings and get moving. Hope others join me.

Modern society will turn to the eternal principles the author admires only when it has absolutely no other choice.

That will happen -- it is as inevitable as sunrise -- but the question is, when will that be?

When "the Gods of the Copybook Headings, with terror and slaughter, return."

Ok I´ll write. As long as we`re free to pursue happiness as we see fit I don`t care if others behave badly (e.g. immorally, unethically, foolishly or self destructively, excepting criminal behavior). I hate the federal government (as opposed to state and local government from which people can escape with their feet) controlling our behavior more than I hate people behaving badly even when the government is forcing, perhaps I should say nudging, people to behave the way I think they should behave. Unfortunately behavior control is exactly what we`re beginning to get with this regime. Now they have a ´Nudge´ squad to nudge us into proper government sanctioned behavior and of course the IRS and Obamacare will see to it that will include what we eat, inhale, drink, watch, shoot and drive. Eventually we will be nudged about where we live, where we go, what we say and away from bad influences like church. The government run schools see to it we are all schooled from birth in the acceptable way to live so they´re already nudging our thinking. Eventually they´ll drop the ´Nudge´ and call them ´Truth´ squads and 1984 will have arrived. That´s what I hate.

What are the odds? I mean, Vladimir Putin does a call-in show and one guy who happens to get through—to ask a question in English—is Ed Snowden? That is one amazing coincidence—almost as amazing as those soldiers who mysteriously materialized in Crimea turning out to be Russian. In a few moments, Snowden became part of a Soviet-style propaganda machine, even though he clearly views himself as a public-spirited crusader. After Snowden leaked all those NSA documents to the Guardian and the Washington Post, which shared a Pulitzer Prize this week, he fled to Hong Kong and then to Moscow, which was more than happy

In Detroit´s unfolding saga, the only innocent victims are city residents. So if there is any case for a Motown bailout, it is to make the city more livable for them. However, that seems to be the main goal of neither the Democratic White House nor the state´s Republican governor -- both of whom have come up with nifty new schemes to shovel taxpayer largesse to city retirees. Just two weeks ago, Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr had been threatening to put a buzzsaw to the city´s $3.5 billion unfunded pension liabilities to lop off savings to “invest” in city services. Most voters think the White House is trying to cover-up what happened in Benghazi and want Congress to continue to investigate the administration’s handling of the attack on the U.S. consulate there that killed four Americans. That’s according to a Fox News poll released Thursday. Sixty percent of voters want lawmakers to keep investigating what happened in Benghazi. That’s down from 65 percent who felt that way in November, and a high of 73 percent in early June 2013.

President Obama today sought to make light of a stinging public rebuke from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, who took the president to task for disparaging GOP lawmakers while seeking to make a deal on immigration reform. Obama, the No. 2 House leader said yesterday after a phone conversation with the president, should “stop his partisan messaging and begin to seriously work with Congress.” Hours before the president called Cantor, the White House had issued a statement in which Obama ripped House Republicans for favoring “extreme measures” and “seemingly preferring the status quo of a broken immigration system over meaningful reform.” “You’re always

Secretary of State John Kerry evidently runs a tight ship, given the paucity of leaks that emerge from his office. So we know he is organized and disciplined. He is also an energetic risk-taker, jumping into high-wire negotiations with Iran, and forcing the Israelis and Palestinians to the negotiating table -- enterprises that could likely end in failure and ruin his reputation. This is a man with character. By contrast, his predecessor at State, Hillary Clinton, appeared to take few risks and has been accused of using the position of secretary of state merely to burnish her resume in preparation

Crimea is in Moscow’s hands. Some of Kiev’s army has surrendered parts of eastern Ukraine without a fight. And now there are signs that Russian President Vladimir Putin may have picked his next targets: First a small breakaway state in Moldova, west of Ukraine, where thousands of Moscow’s troops are already stationed; then its close neighbor Odessa, Ukraine’s third-largest city and its largest remaining port, where pro-Russian and pro-government groups are tangling. If forces loyal to Putin can successfully disrupt Odessa, it could effectively cut the county of Ukraine in two.

Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. Climate change’s latest casualty appears to be fish — or more specifically, fish brains — as researchers say the carbon dioxide that’s being absorbed into the ocean is causing the scaly creatures to lose their survival instincts. In other words, the fish are losing their minds, The Daily Mail reported. The acid from atmospheric carbon dioxide seeps into sea waters, dissolves and ultimately lowers the pH balance, researchers said. The acidic waters then hamper the fishes’ sensory systems, so they’re not able to distinguish between smells any longer, the scientists went on. When the acid levels get really high, the fish lose their
