Obama´s ´Grand Bargain´ With Obama
Wall Street Journal, by Editorial

Original Article

Posted By:Desert Fox, 7/30/2013 8:06:25 PM

In Chattanooga on Tuesday, the latest stop on his economic inequality tour, President Obama made himself an offer he couldn´t refuse. If Congressional Republicans agree to a corporate tax increase, he said, then he´ll agree to spend more money on his favorite public-works projects. If Republicans bargain hard, will he also offer an expansion of ObamaCare as a sweetener? We know this sounds like an exaggeration, but that´s the essence of what the President proposed as what he called a new "grand bargain." Mr. Obama will agree to reform the corporate tax code—a GOP priority and one

Organizing for Action, the advocacy group born from President Obama’s reelection campaign, has a simple message for its 35 million Twitter followers as it seeks political support for the White House´s climate agenda. That’s one of several OFA climate-related tweets Monday ahead of a series of events the group is holding Tuesday in support for Obama’s climate plans. The group, in a press release, said OFA volunteers are “holding events nationwide [Tuesday] to hold members of Congress accountable for their positions on climate change.” Obama’s plans rest almost entirely on administrative actions that don’t need congressional approval, including carbon

A U.S. human rights group on Monday delivered a petition with more than 100,000 signatures urging that this year’s Nobel Peace Prize go to Pfc. Bradley Manning, who was convicted on espionage charges last month for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks. Norman Solomon, the co-founder of RootsAction, delivered the petition in Oslo, Norway, on Monday to the research director of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the Nobel Prizes. Solomon said that Manning should receive the prize for exposing government secrecy and wrongdoing in the Iraq War. He argued that the Nobel committee’s selection of

On Monday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the American Bar Association annual meeting in San Francisco that she would be launching a series of speeches about American foreign policy in the “next few months.” According to Philip Rucker, White House correspondent for The Washington Post, Hillary planned to emphasize restoring faith in government – an ironic theme, considering that she was a member of the current administration presiding over the rapid decline in faith in government. The speech today was clearly a launching point for a 2016 campaign. She put heavy emphasis on bashing voter

Upon the death of the Marxist-inspired historian Howard Zinn in 2010, eulogies rang out from coast to coast calling him a heroic champion of the unsung masses. In Indiana, then-Gov. Mitch Daniels refused to join the chorus and instead sent emails to his staff wondering if the historian´s "execrable" books were being force-fed to Hoosier students. The recent revelation of these emails provoked an angry backlash. High-school teachers within Zinn´s vast network of admirers blogged their disapproval of the governor´s heresy, and leading professional organizations of historians denounced the supposed threat to academic freedom.

Immigration: As a torrent of new illegal immigrants inundates our southern border, some wealthy Americans fed up with a meddlesome federal government seek to abandon their citizenship. Is this any way to run a country? No joke: Things are so bad on the border with Mexico that U.S. federal agencies are putting up illegal border crossers in hotel rooms because Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) "processing centers" are so swamped they can´t house them all. A report by Fox News found that dozens of families crossing into San Diego have been put up in $99-a-night hotel rooms.

Health Care: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid admitted last week that ObamaCare was just a first move toward a fully government-run single-payer system. This should not be a surprise. Some of us knew it all along. More than three years ago we were saying that "anyone who´s watched Democrats´ long campaign to ´reform´ health care knows the ultimate goal is to drive the private sector out of medicine." ObamaCare, we warned, "seems to have started the process." Even before ObamaCare was signed into law, we told anyone who´d listen it was a con to dupe the public.

Left-of-center New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd recently penned a column about Hillary Clinton where in one sentence she — inadvertently to be sure — boldly underscored a problem with the 2008 presidential election and the coming election in 2016. Said Dowd: "Many Democrats are hungry to make history again, and they see the first woman president as the natural successor to the first black president." Really? Does the country truly want to make that mistake again? Should the main criterion for supporting someone for the highest office in the land

Appearing on This Week With George Stephanopoulos, Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert battled not only the Democratic panelists but also conservative pundit George Will over the wisdom of shutting down the government to prevent Obamacare funding. Gohmert strongly condemned President Barack Obama’s argument at Friday’s news conference that the GOP’s “holy grail” was enying millions of people health insurance. “That’s a false narrative,” Gohmert said. “He says we’re trying to keep people from having health care. That’s just not true. That is an absolute, blatant lie. We’re not trying to keep anybody from getting health care.

The taxpayer-supported Missouri State Fair is getting a lot of negative publicity in social media Sunday following a report of a shameful stunt that occurred Saturday night in Sedalia. (Snip) Basically, a clown wearing a mask of Obama came out during the bull riding event. The crowd was asked if it wanted to see Obama “run down by a bull. Things got worse from there." Things got worse from there, which doesn’t surprise me, given the anti-Obama feeling among many fairgoers from rural Missouri, where Obama lost to Mitt Romney (at least 60-40 percent in much of outlying parts of state)

Ames, Iowa — Donald Trump delivered a blistering attack on Mitt Romney’s campaign today. “I don’t know what the hell happened with his campaign,” Trump said in a speech at The Family Leader Summit. “I just don’t get it. But he also criticized what the campaign had initially wanted him to say in robocalls. “They gave me this most pathetic thing to say. I said,

President Obama took his case for ending the sequester to hundreds of disabled veterans Saturday, saying he protected their benefits from the “reckless” cuts to the federal budget but suggesting next year might be different. “It’s hurting our military. I made it clear that your veteran’s benefits are exempt from this year’s sequester,” the president said to the applause of hundreds at the Disabled American Veterans´ convention in Orlando, Fla. “But I want to tell you going forward the best way to protect the VA care you have earned is to get rid of this sequester altogether.”

Rooms have to be found for dozens of Secret Service agents, someone has to carry a selection of presidential basketballs, and of course the family dog needs his own state-of-the-art aircraft. Arriving in the idyllic coastal retreat of Martha´s Vineyard in Massachusetts, Mr Obama left behind him in Washington DC high profile debates over the budget, government surveillance and his health care reforms. Instead, he will spend the next eight days playing golf, going to the beach, and buying books from the Bunch of Grapes bookstore.

Potential 2016 presidential contender Donald Trump spoke to ABC’s Jonathan Karl Sunday morning and reignited the birther issue that he helped spark back in 2011, questioning the legitimacy of Barack Obama’s birth certificate and wondering whether Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada, was eligible to president. “Was there a birth certificate?” Trump asked. “You tell me. Some people say that was not his birth certificate. I’m saying I don’t know. Nobody knows. And you don’t know, either, Jonathan. You’re a smart guy, you don’t know, either.” “I’m pretty convinced he was born in the United States,” Karl said.

MANY American newspapers were doomed to decline from the moment the Internet arrived on personal computers. But The Washington Post, just sold off unexpectedly to Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, was never really one of them. This is something the sentimental send-offs for the Graham family and its stewardship tended to ignore. As disruptive as the Internet has been for journalism, The Post was uniquely positioned to succeed amid the chaos.
