Transgender troops serve in silence
USA Today, by Tom Vanden Brook

Original Article

Posted By:Ribicon, 7/24/2013 12:29:51 AM

Washington - As the military begins to embrace gays and lesbians, one group feels left out: transgender troops. These men and women weren´t even a blip on the nation´s radar until former Navy SEAL Team 6 member Chris Beck revealed in a memoir released last month that he had become Kristin Beck, a woman. It´s unknown how many transgender troops are serving in the U.S. military, largely because they would get kicked out for coming out. About 700,000 Americans in a population of more than 300 million are transsexuals, according to a 2011 study by the Williams Institute at the UCLA School

Comments:
No sooner is homosexual recognition secured then they move the goalpost to "transgender." These termites are remarkably efficient.

What aggrieved group will they come up with next? Conjoined twins not allowed to serve? The legally blind? I am not mocking disabled people; I am just wondering what group the military will be accused of not accommodating next?

No. 3: Several years ago, the cashier at the employee café at the California State Teachers´ Retirement System headquarters in Sacramento was blind. She was very nice and sat on a tall stool at the cash register with her service dog at her feet. I always thought it was emblematic of how government works - someone who can see money is in charge of money.

...so in the general population we are talking of approx 2/100ths of a % dealing with it. Probably even less in the services...

Another oppressed group.

We must face new and challenging questions.

(1) Can a protected minority be less than one person?

(2) Would bigger microscopes discover new minorities? People less than a micron tall?

(3) Has Lasik created a minority. Should Congressional districts be redrawn so those who have had Lasik can be represented in Congress?

Four days after a downgraded credit rating, New Jersey has more bad financial news: Tax collections were once again short of Governor Christie’s already lowered expectations. This time, the gap was $145 million for March – a full 7 percent short of what Christie projected for the month, according to data released Monday by the state Department of Treasury. That means the Christie administration has to make up that gap with just three months left in the state’s fiscal year, time that includes the crucial income tax collection month of April. Already, the administration has said it cut nearly $700

Named after the late Admiral Elmo “Bud” Zumwalt, the warship sports advanced technology and a stealthy shape designed to minimise its visibility on enemy radar and reduce the size of its crew. Among the 15,000-tonne destroyer´s cutting-edge features are a composite deckhouse with hidden radar and sensors and an angular shape that officials say will allow it to be confused for a small fishing boat on radars. Britain hiked its aid spending by more than any other country in Europe last year, figures show. Foreign aid soared by 28 per cent last year, meaning the UK hit its target of spending 0.7 per cent of GDP on overseas development. It left Britain with the second most generous aid budget in the world, outstripped only by the United States, and it came as a series of developed nations cut back on their aid spending. The figures will reignite concerns among Tory MPs that the aid budget is ill-directed and has ballooned at the expense of other Whitehall departments.

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
