An overjoyed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are the proud parents of a healthy baby boy, and the nation celebrates the birth of a future king. The couple’s son weighed 8lb 6oz and was delivered at 4.24pm today at the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington with his proud father, Prince William, looking on. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight, said a spokesman for the palace. The long-awaited baby will be given the title His Royal Highness and be known as Prince of Cambridge,

I was wrong again, I thought it would be a 6 lb. girl.

This is a big baby for such a tiny woman.

Congrats to all!

George IV was known as Prinny - he of the Regency set and friends with Beau Brummel.

It´s news and interesting and I wish the couple well, but I´ve been amazed to see the coverage this has gotten.

We´re Americans. We didn´t like royalty and many of the things it stands for. I´m surprised at the level of devotion by the MSM and people commenting -- and the still present reverence for Diana.

But at least it gives us a break from the Trayvon coverage.

The birth of a baby is a joy to the parents, whether they´re "royal" or poor as church mice.

I share in their joy. Congratulations to the new parents.

As an aside, this means it will be one more generation before the new rule of inheritance of the throne can be used--that the first born child succeeds, whether male or female.

As I understand it, the name the baby goes by may not be the name he assumes as King. William, for instance, could choose one of his several other given names. His great-grandfather, King George VI, was known in the family as "Bertie," his first name being Albert.

Many best wishes to this young child and to his parents.

And won´t the radical feminists be angry! They wanted a girl just to break precedent.

I was talking to my Mother earlier this afternoon as it is her 89th birthday. I told her that in my mind, I bet on Kate´s child being born today as it was a full moon. She smiled on the other end of the line.

Great news as I so appreciate Her Royal Highness & Prince William. My Mother also thought it was a good sign that both the brothers have served honorably in their Military. Happy first day, little one.

I´ve enjoyed the coverage of this young couple and wish them well with their new baby. William and Kate seem like genuine, decent people who love and respect each other, and they exude grace and class. They waited to have a child until after marriage, which is the proper thing to do.

Meanwhile, here in the U. S., we have the...Kardashians. Oy vey! What role models!

Congratulations to the parents and to all of our UK friends who are celebrating. Here´s to LIFE!

Not trying to be crabby, but I´m guessing that the private Lindo Wing of St. Mary´s hospital must be much nicer than the rest of that place. While visiting London a couple of years ago, I had to take my daughter to the emergency room and St. Mary´s was the closest to our hotel. It was dingy, dirty, shabby and crumbling. The end result of socialized medicine - we saw it in Romania too.

Name him Richard! In honour of the discovery of the body of Richard III last year - a great archeological moment.

Actually, I remember when Prince William was born, in 1982. It was right at the end of the Falklands War, and the British had retaken Port Stanley. Some people suggested the new royal baby should be named "Stanley" in honour of the victory. But the prospect of "Good King Stan" didn´t seem to be enough for the royal family to break with tradition.

That was a quick labor. Congratulations to the parents and the Royal Family.

Critics abound, but this family has survived and maintained the aura of royalty when all the other crowned heads of Europe have disappeared or become quite common. The monarchy was proclaimed dead after George III and his useless brood, again after Victoria, after the abdication of Edward VII and in the 1970s. Yet here the monarchy is is on the ascendency in Elizabeth II´s diamond jubilee year with the birth of a boy to a popular heir presumptive

Congrats to our royal allies across the pond.
I am sure Queen Elizabeth has recently found a new appreciation for religion. She must have been praying to newly minted St. John Paul for a boy, not a girl, because I am sure she thought the new baby would be named Diane (in honor of the late princess) whom she hated with a passion.

To Kate: Now let´s work on #2. Don´t forget the old saying, "A heir and a spare."

Congratulations to the Cambridges. It´s possible that the boy, if named George, would actually reign as George VIII, since there´s been speculation that Prince Charles would choose to reign under the name George if he does ascend to the throne. The previous two guys named King Charles were not exactly an illustrious precedent for a future Charles III.

#58, I seriously doubt it. There might be a discreet Royal Warrant, as in:

The warrant is typically advertised on company hoardings, letter-heads and products by displaying the coat of arms or the heraldic badge of the royal personage as appropriate. Underneath the coat of arms will usually appear the phrase "By Appointment to..." followed by the title and name of the royal customer, and then what goods are provided. No other details of what is supplied may be given.

The doctor´s warrant might simply say "provider of medical services" or something low-key like that. See: http://tinyurl.com/ly64l8j

As for the name, I´d love to see the child named after William´s brother, Henry (or Harry, as he is more commonly known). He might also be named Michael, after Kate´s father. As long as he´s not named Charles. . . .

However, this is not a day for cynicism. Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Royal Family and all of Great Britain. Lord knows it´s nice to see some happy news for a change!

Thank you, Lucianne Staff.

I never thought of Spencer as one of the middle names, but I think it would be entirely appropriate. I´ve thought of "James" as well, to honor the King that gave us the King James Bible, or George, to honor the Queen´s father.

Congrats to the proud parents. That´s a big baby. My daughter was 8lbs 4oz so yeah I´m sure that was some work pushing but Kate looked as good as ever. I say name the boy Richard since that´s such a strong kingly name. Whatever you do don´t name him after grandpa Charlie. We all know what kind of stand up guy he turned out to be.

Less than 16 hours after Chelsea Clinton announced she was pregnant, a lot of major news outlets started staring into the crystal ball of Chelsea’s womb, wondering what this currently floating zygotic multicellular being meant for the prospects of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, which is also a floating, zygotic, multicellular being. Their answer: The immaculately conceived Clinton child could mean everything. And no, it’s not just the fact that having a grandchild could be personally fulfilling to Hillary and Bill (mazel tov, by the way), or that a cute baby would be a sweet cherry on top of Hillary’s already

One day after making an audio appearance on RT to ask Vladimir Putin about Russian surveillance operations, National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden authored a Guardian column to clarify his intentions behind the question and push back on critics who suggest he was attempting to help whitewash the Russian president’s abuses. “Does Russia intercept, analyse or store millions of individuals’ communications?” Snowden asked Putin on Thursday, garnering a denial from Putin that included the statement: “We don’t have mass system of such interception. And according to our law it cannot exist.” Critics alleged that Snowden appeared in a scripted manner,

When a video of high school student Jeff Bliss calling out his teacher went viral, a lot of people started talking about the state of our education system and ways to improve it. However, almost a year since the video was posted, not much has changed. In fact, many would say that with the extension of Common Core curriculum across most of the country, it has actually gotten worse. Take this attempted explanation of Common Core’s approach to math: (Letter & Charts) How is this helping? U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland said the law is “invalid and unconstitutional” and that it “cannot withstand a constitutional challenge.” The state attorney general said he was looking at whether to appeal the decision by the Bismarck-based judge. North Dakota is among several conservative states that have passed new abortion restrictions in recent years, but abortion rights supporters called

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'
