It appears that after a decade or two of acting like they care about law and order, Democrats are lurching back to being soft on crime. Attorney General Eric Holder indicated as much when he launched a frontal assault on “stand your ground” laws Tuesday. From the 1960s well into the 1980s, laws regarding criminal justice and self-defense were stacked heavily against law-abiding Americans. Liberal judges routinely handed down minimal sentences after criminals had been convicted of heinous crimes. Americans who had defended themselves against criminals using force, often in their own homes, faced severe prosecution
They want us to like the Euroweanies who can´t self defend themselves but rather must rely on the police. If you defend yourself in Europe and your attacker is injured you are in big trouble. Attacks by the left on stand your ground laws are just the beginning what they really want is to do away with concealed carry laws. The want blacks to be able to assault whites without the fear of being shot in self defense. It´s all part of reparations or payback. The far left has succeed in getting blacks to hate whites.
If you are not allowed to defend yourself, you must rely on the police to defend you. Accordingly any attempt at reducing government spending can be blocked by threatening to layoff police. Leftists cannot stand the idea of someone relying upon themselves for anything. The government should control everything.
I think the Dirty Harry movies came about when people were getting infuriated about the lenient attitude toward criminals. Actually quite a few 1970s movies picked up on this theme. Too bad we are now regressing on this front (and so many others).
I keep telling my liberal friends that police don´t stop crime, but they solve crime. When I ask for a response all they say is no one should have a gun. I then ask them why do police have guns, their response because they need protection from criminals who have guns. So the only ones without protection are law abiding citizens. At this point they just stare with blank looks on their faces.
Without the SYG law, the burden fell on the victim to run away from perceived harm. God help you if you couldn´t prove it enough to satisfy a Judge or jury. Liberals hate this law..you see, if it is done away with, it gives them traction to tell us we don´t need guns. Are we to become England, where a baseball bat must be your sole protection?
It wasn’t that many years ago – 2008, in fact – that Nelson Mandela’s name was still on the US terrorist watch list (officially, anyway) for having been a leader of the African National Congress, which advocated armed resistance to South Africa’s white minority regime. (Snip) Today, flags around the US are being flown at half-staff in honor of Mandela, a rare honor for a foreign leader that puts him in company with Winston Churchill and Pope John Paul II. This week, President Obama – together with former presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter – will travel
A game called "Point-em-out, Knock-em-out" has made its way to Lansing, and it´s exactly how it sounds. The game consists of someone being randomly targeted, then attacked. It´s a game that has been growing with popularity on the internet, with teenagers filming themselves punching unsuspecting victims. Lansing had its first case of the game brought to light this summer, but it´s possible that it has been happening under the radar for months. On February 26th a man waiting for his six-year-old daughter to be dropped off from school, had no idea
“I sit here all day trying to persuade people to do the things they ought to have sense enough to do without my persuading them,” Harry Truman once lamented. “That’s all the powers of the President amount to.” As usual, the plain-speaking Truman got it right: presidential power is the power to persuade. Too bad the current occupant of the White House has never learned this basic lesson. Barack Obama’s refusal to negotiate with the Republicans in Congress on the government shutdown is proof once again that he doesn’t understand
Tractor-trailer drivers will intentionally clog the inner loop of the Washington, D.C., beltway beginning on the morning of Oct. 11, according to a coordinator of the upcoming "Truckers Ride for the Constitution" rally. Organizers of the three-day ride want to call attention to a litany of trucker frustrations and express their disapproval of national political leaders. Earl Conlon, a Georgia trucker who is handling logistics for the protest, told U.S. News tractor-trailer drivers will circle the beltway "three lanes deep" as he rides with other participants to Congress to seek the arrest of congressmen
Overloaded websites and jammed phone lines frustrated consumers for a second day as they tried to sign up for health insurance under the nation´s historic health care overhaul. That was putting pressure on the federal government and the states that are running their own insurance exchanges to fix the problems amid strong demand for the private insurance plans. "I think I´m through with Hawaii Health Connector," said Richard Gamberg, 61, of Honolulu, after tweeting messages to officials and complaining to state lawmakers on Wednesday. "They´ve got ads in the newspaper
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is touting its new lunch standards in a promotional video, claiming the program is “proving to be popular.” However, multiple news reports suggest the standards—which originated in First Lady Michelle Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010—are driving kids out of the lunch line. “The U.S. Department of Agriculture is celebrating good news for America’s schools,” the video, which was released last week, said. “New guidelines for healthier school meals introduced last year are proving to be popular, as nearly 80 percent of school districts have adopted the changes.”
Giglio Island: Salvage operators in Italy have lifted the Costa Concordia cruise ship upright from its watery grave off the island of Giglio in the biggest ever project of its kind. The ship´s horn sounded for the first time since the January 13, 2012 tragedy, its sound mixing with applause and cheers in the port in a dramatic climax to the massive salvage operation. The 290-metre, 114,500-tonne vessel - longer than the Titanic and more than twice as heavy - rose from the sea like a ghost ship.
The Daily Caller has taken a keen interest in Oberlin College after breaking the story about how an Obama-supporting white kid and his sidekick allegedly circulated virulently racist, anti-Jewish and anti-gay messages around campus. (Snip) As The Plain Dealer reports, Oberlin’s administration recently altered the school’s bizarre trespassing policy, which dates back to the 1970s. Previously, the school had maintained a secret list of people blackballed from the campus. Only the school’s safety and security department and local police knew the names on the list. School officials did not notify the individuals
District Attorney Jason Hicks said outside the first court hearing in the Oklahoma town of Duncan that he was "going to do everything I can to ensure these three thugs pay for what they did to Christopher Lane". "To those friends of ours in Australia, we would say to you this is not Duncan, Oklahoma," Mr Hicks said. "This is not Stephens County, Oklahoma." Stephens County Courthouse heard how one of the boys accused of murdering Lane, 22, danced and laughed as he was taken into a police station
The Navy has decided that it will not repair the nuclear-powered submarine USS Miami after concluding that the cost of repairing damage from a fire set by a civilian worker is more than it can afford due to mandated budget cuts. The decision to scrap the Groton, Conn.-based sub comes after a damage assessment by the Navy found that estimated repair costs, originally estimated to be about $450 million, have risen dramatically, a Navy official told The Military Times. Rear Adm. Rick Breckenridge, director of undersea warfare, said Tuesday that repairing the submarine
Congress has won some partial relief for lawmakers and their staffs from the "Obamacare" health reforms that it passed and subjected itself to three years ago. In a ruling issued on Wednesday, U.S. lawmakers and their staffs will continue to receive a federal contribution toward the health insurance that they must purchase through soon-to-open exchanges created by President Barack Obama´s signature healthcare law. The decision by the Office of Personnel Management, with Obama´s blessing, will prevent the largely unintended loss of healthcare benefits for 535 members of the Senate and House of Representatives
Here’s a tip — don’t tweet about getting stiffed! A fed-up cook who worked at the popular food cart Milk Truck was canned for using Twitter to call out Wall Street executives who racked up a huge tab and didn’t leave a tip. “I’ve had plenty of food-service jobs and I’ve kept my mouth shut — but this time I figured, I’m sick of this,” cook Brendan O’Connor, 24, told The Post yesterday. O’Connor was flipping fancy grilled cheeses near the South Street Seaport in the Financial District on July 22 when a group of workers
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
President Obama’s job approval among American voters has dropped to negative territory with just 38 percent voicing their approval versus the 58 who says they disapprove, according to a national poll released Tuesday by the independent Quinnipiac University. That is one percent less than the 39% who said they approved of him in last month’s poll. The majority of the 2,692 registered voters the University in early December said that the president is not honest and trustworthy. When asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as President?,” respondents gave Obama lackluster ratings
Looks like this president can’t get away with flirting in front of his wife… It appears that first lady Michelle Obama was none too pleased with the way that President Barack Obama was acting toward Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during a ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela, and before too long, they switched seats. This lmao! Michelle Obama vs Prime Minister of Denmark at Mandela´s ceremony. pic.twitter.com/Rq4uF9fTaZ — Stun (@TheBlogPirate) December 10, 2013
The sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela´s memorial yesterday "made up his own signs," according to South Africa´s deaf federation. "He´s a complete fraud," Cara Loening, director of Sign Language Education and Development in Cape Town, said according to ITV News. "He wasn´t even doing anything, There was not one sign there. Nothing. He was literally flapping his arms around." Delphin Hlungwane, an official South African sign language interpreter at DeafSA, told Reuters:
If you go down on the ice today you´re sure of a big surprise - a rare glimpse of 20 polar bears gorging on a bloody midnight feast. These photographs show a rare cluster of males, females and cubs all dining out on the remains of a whale carcass. They spent a night and a day stripping every last morsel from the mammoth sea creature. Usually Polar bears are solitary and would never tolerate being so close to each other. But with food in plentiful supply and bellies dragging on the floor they seem too lethargic to fight.Wildlife photographer Michal
