Botching Immigration Again
National Review Online, by Gov. Bobby Jindal

Original Article

Posted By:tisHimself, 7/10/2013 12:38:57 AM

As the son of immigrants to this country, and as a student of American history, I’m an unapologetic advocate for immigration. I believe immigration is crucial for the health and growth of our nation. That’s why it’s so troublesome to see Washington in the process of botching immigration reform for the umpteenth time. Across the country, we see the ramifications of the broken status quo. Reform is necessary for the future health of the economy and to ensure our border’s security. Business owners are sick and tired of struggling under the current system to make ends meet

If no immigrant were ever allowed to vote, would any politician care ?

Many of those here and coming here only want welfare, not jobs. How many parents of anchor babies get married and eliminate the gravy train ?

With so many foreigners hating US, why do they keep coming here ? Everyone cannot live in this country because too few work and pay taxes.

Remember how France got into such a mess ?
They wanted workers to pay into their pension fund. How´s that working out ?

I agree with Jindal that it is being botched again.

But, one thing bothers me. It seems every politian has to declare himself in favor of legal immigration. Why? Does a nation of more than 300 million need more people?

What #3 said. I would prefer a ten year hiatus on legal immigration and then clearly-demarcated criteria for quality immigrants once it resumes.

Only a dweeb would regard legalizing illegal immigration by the poorest, least productive and least educated segment of a neighboring country as productive and good for our country.

Some of you apparently didn´t read the complete article. Jindal separates "legalization", meaning a green card, naturalization, guest worker, granting a legal permit to be here, but well short of citizenship. Then he addresses citizenship in a way most of us can agree, only applying after meeting stringent requirements and with no jump ahead of those already having applied.

Former President Vicente Fox of Mexico, back during the second Bush era, used to visit the USA and propose a solution to the dilemma of Mexican irregular migrants (illegal aliens) who are working in the USA. Fox used to say that those Mexicans are happy being Mexicans and are not asking to be made US citizens, and that all they want is to be given a legal immigration status so that they can live and work in the USA with dignity, and be able to travel back and forth between Mexico and the USA. It is only the liberal Democrats who want to make them all US citizens, as they know that the vast majority of those poor and generally uneducated Mexicans can easily be made Democrat voters by promises of all sorts of new rights, "free" healthcare, and access to an expanded US social welfare network.

The most important enforcement aspect of immigration reform, before any illegal alien is granted amnesty, is an up and running effective mandatory electronic e-verify type employee verification system that employers must use when they hire anyone, unpinned by a modern high-tech social security card bearing a digitized photograph, and having instant electronic verification ability. Then employers will know that the card is not being used by an imposter, and that the card is valid. Such a system, along with effective enforcement, would keep most illegal aliens out of US jobs. Without the possibility of getting a US job, most future potential illegal aliens would not come here.

Legal immigrants improve this country and have been doing so since before we became an independent country.

I would agree with all that Gov. Bobby Jindal suggests, with just two small additional requirements.

1) Every one must refer to all persons in this country without prior permission (immigrant visa) a criminal alien...not some wishy-washy phrase to deny they are acting against the law.

2) Have every person already waiting for a visa be in this country, with no backlog in the official immigration system whatsoever before a single criminal alien is given the gift of amnesty.

Any "path to citizenship" that does not include a) starting (signing up) in their home country and/or b) serious jail time for breaking any of our laws is a form of amnesty!

Good news for lawmakers who oppose the Keystone XL oil pipeline: San Francisco billionaire Tom Steyer has got your back. Steyer, the hedge-fund-trader-turned-anti-Keystone-activist, pledged Thursday to leverage his largely self-funded super PAC to support members of Congress who come under attack for their opposition to the proposed Canada-to-Texas pipeline. Some Democrats on the Hill have faced Keystone-related attacks not just from Republicans but also from Democratic-friendly labor activists who support the project.

National Review Online took another gratuitous shot at me Thursday in an article defending Ayaan Hirsi Ali, saying: “Hirsi Ali is no Pamela Geller. On the contrary, for her whole life, Hirsi Ali has used anger as a catalyst to great good.” Is it necessary to smear me in order to defend Hirsi Ali? And this is not the first time that NRO has allowed insults and defamation against me and other freedom fighters to run unedited. I hardly know why. Want to know whether Jeb Bush will run for president? Don’t listen to the learned pundits pouring over Electoral College maps and crunching poll numbers, weighing the former Florida governor’s chances against the rest of the putative 2016 Republican field. Put aside for a moment, the very real questions about his immigration stance and whether he’s too much of an Establishment guy in a Tea Party world. Electability matters, of course, but if you want to get Jeb, it’s the last name that counts, and the family history you should consult for clues as to whether he will seek to join

he 2014 election season dawns, with 2016 closing close behind that. In addition to being a prolific Reagan scholar, Kengor is a professor of political science at Grove City College and the executive director of the college’s Center for Vision & Values. Why is

With jobs and the economy a given, Republicans are working to turn the 2014 elections into an argument over the Affordable Care Act. And that message could be helped by a high-profile Senate race in Kansas against the very woman who oversaw the law´s disastrous rollout. Some Democrats are asking outgoing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to challenge her home state senator, Republican Pat Roberts, in the fall, the The New York Times reported Wednesday. Nominating Sebelius, a potentially serious contender in the state, would force national Republicans to spend money in Kansas, pulling away funds that could help them

The Republican Party faces a long-term challenge in presidential elections because it is defining itself as a gloomy enclave, a collection of pessimists who fear what our country is becoming and where it is going. The party’s hope deficit helps explain why there’s a boomlet for Jeb Bush, a man who dares to use the word “love” in a paragraph about illegal immigrants. The flurry doesn’t mean that the former Florida governor is even running for president, let alone that he can win. But Bush is being taken seriously because his approach to politics is so different from what’s on offer

If Hillary Clinton runs for president, she’ll be getting a lot of help from Wall Street. But her friends and confidants there tell me she truly hasn’t decided yet. So why is she hesitating? The big reason, according to these sources, has to do with the dude who occupies the Oval Office now. Barack Obama’s rapidly disintegrating presidency — and the chance it will get even worse — is Clinton’s top worry these days as she weighs whether she’ll run, and can win, in 2016, these folks say.

If Jeb Bush decides to run for president, he’ll have to defend his family’s controversial political name. But more immediate family concerns might keep him from running at all.Republican donors and operatives are chattering about Bush’s publicity-shy wife, so worried she isn’t on board with a 2016 White House run that they’re urging people in the family’s orbit to make the case. Columba Bush has long been deeply averse to the spotlight, especially after an embarrassing encounter with U.S. Customs while her husband was still in office.

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn.
