Is Obama a Victim of
Self-Esteem Education?

American Thinker, by Jonathon Moseley

Original Article

Posted By:Desert Fox, 7/2/2013 6:55:47 AM

I never understood Barack Obama -- or even some of my friends -- until I read The Amateur by Edward Klein (Regnery Publishing 2012 -- paperback June 13, 2013). But first you also need to remember the plague of "self-esteem" based education. And finally it all makes sense. The self-esteem movement hurt our public schools and degraded the curriculum. The self-esteem time bomb is now coming full circle, as the victims of our schools, colleges, and universities have moved into leadership of our country.

Interesting take on what make Obeyme tick.
I do disagree with the statement that Obama "is naturally bright."
I have seen no shred of evidence or actions by this arrogant fool to indicate that he is any smarter than a typical Chicago street hustler.
Smoother talking (with a teleprompter), yes.
Cunning and manipulative, yes.
Smart? Heck, no.

This is a good piece. I have thought this ever since obozo strode onto the national stage...but I also think his mother had a lot to do with it. I believe his dippy mother filled young Barry with a lot of "esteem" by praising hiim out of guilt because hs father was an absent bum and she then married into yet another third world scenario with the next guy. His natural father was also known as a pseudo intellectual blowhard with delusions of grandeur.

Why doesn´t Obama get involved in shaping legislation important to his agenda as it develops in Congress? Because he doesn´t know how. Obama avoids the hard work not only because he is lazy but also because he doesn´t have the skills to tackle it. He instinctively avoids situations in which his weaknesses and ignorance would be exposed.

That is why he is always voting "present" while being absent. He is always AWOL when the going gets tough.

Where was President Obama when the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya was under attack? Well, where would you be if you knew you don´t understand the U.S. military, foreign policy, U.S. military capabilities, response options, and how various countries might be involved in defending U.S. diplomats? Obama didn´t want everyone to see in the Situation Room that he could not intelligently discuss the options or the problems.

Look back over his entire Presidency so far; every time there is a crisis or hard decisions to be made, he´s nowhere to be found. Instead, he sends out others who may or may not have the answers and lets them take the fall. If it succeeds, he takes the credit, but he truly doesn´t know how ignorant he is.

The self-esteem movement in schools was a bad idea from its inception because it removed the need to learn and yes, to excel. I could smell that coming decades away and today we reap the whirlwind of horrendous liberal policies in our schools.

In the guise of good intentions, we have produced two generations, at least, of know-nothing liberal robots who have lost their ability to reason. What´s worse is that they don´t know what they have lost.

Frank Davis and Bill Ayers also had a big influence on this communist.
I would guess that since he never attended any classes at Columbia, they get a by on his education or lack thereof.

Obama is lazy. He has turned everything over to Valerie Jarrett and makes no decisions himself. It is obvious from the failures of this administration that she doesn´t know anything either. No one dares to disagree with her or challenge her on anything. She is his Communist handler and he is the figure head.

Self-esteem is one of those buzz words that few people stop to think about, hence seldom have any idea what they are talking about when they use the term. Proponents of self-esteem education believe that children with low self-esteem cannot learn until their self-esteem is elevated. They think that low self-esteem impedes learning. Their formula is improved self-esteem = improved learning, diminished self-esteem = diminished learning. There is not a shred of genuine evidence to support such contentios.

Where did this come from? What is the origin of the self-esteem movement in education? I do not know - but I suspect that forced integration may be part of the story. When it became painfully obvious that large numbers of black students could not possibly master the material and keep up with their white peer cohorts, some explanation was required to avoid the undesirable political implications of the observations.

One "explanation" was that the black children were not learning and progressing because they "lacked self-esteem." Of course their failure to show the expected progress, it was thought, only further damaged their already precarious self-esteem. Something had to be done.

Lowering or abandoning standards, grades, expectations was tried, but this could not solve the problem. Fuzzing up the curriculum, eliminating courses and subjects in which progress could be definitively measured was another approach. Grade inflation and cheating (by educators) on tests was another tactic.

The self-esteem movement is founded upon pity for the wretched of the earth. It is really more about the educators and their feelings and self-esteem than it is about the students, who are simply enabled in their ignorance and indiscipline by the emotional needs of those whose job it is to educate them.

Many of you miss the point.
The worst bullies I have ever seen had the highest self esteem.
To perform a criminal act requires that you value yourself above others. To be decent, honest, and kind, one must value others as equal to oneself. This is the core of many religious faiths.
Simply because Zippy values himself does not mean that he is of value to anyone else. He is, in fact, quit fond of hurting those who value him most. For example, the black population, whose unemployment is worse under his "leadership", and who support him at the 90% level. The same is true for labor unions.

Let us get back to earned esteem. Praise someone for what they have actually done, rather than who they are.

Please?

Obama went to Pelosi and asked her to put together a health care bill. She went to all the Democrats in the House and asked them to pull out any health care proposals they had laying around and after collecting them she put a bill together. One Democrat she approached told her he had an old bill that had failed to pass but "if it was not good enough then it is not good enough now." Too bad more of them did not feel the same.

That Obama had no idea how to do it was evident from the first. It was there for all to see.

Zippy is too old to have been part of the self esteem nonsense taught in schools. Plus, he was not educated in the US for most of his formative years. He ( and we ) is a victim of his own narcissism.

Self esteemed must be EARNED, not granted by teachers or parents.

The Black Pride movement dated back to the 1960´s. "Say It Loud – I´m Black and I´m Proud" is a funk song written and recorded by James Brown in 1968. In the last half-century all the grievance-based groups have adopted this "pride" moniker to justify their protests - take Gay Pride Month. There was a time in this country where being a sexual deviant was a mental illness, now it´s thrown in our faces. We are doomed.

Excellent article! I only wish it had been written when I was a full-time teacher in the early 1970´s. I was too young at the time to understand what I was battling in the racially-divided school system where I worked.

No wonder I was chastised by my fellow teachers for insisting that my students make, at least, a C- in my English classes. One teacher (an art teacher) even point-blank asked me "Why are you trying to teach these kids English? They are just going to go work at Ford´s?" There was a Ford Motor Co. plant next door to the school. I doubt if the Board of Directors at Ford Motor Co. would have appreciated that art teacher´s remark.

In the Zimmerman trial, Trayvon Martin´s girlfriend, Rachel Jeantel, must have plenty of self-esteem. She didn´t seem the least embarrassed to say the term "creepy-ass cracker" wasn´t a racial slur against Zimmerman. She is typical of the black students I had - things haven´t changed, sorry to say.

PS. Teachers´ Unions are the biggest reason for students´ pathethic performance once they land a job. Hopefully, future doctors and nurses are held to a higher standard. Our lives depend on it.

The nasty thing about the self-esteem b.s. is that it is automatically paired with low expectations. We have horrible scores in math, science, and reading, but we ring the gong with our self-esteem. This has created a world in which the pseudo-glib magically seem to be intelligent and wise, rather than just, pseudo-glib. The self-esteem world helped make Fauxbama possible. Similarly, to criticize him would be too ´judgmental´. The horrors of our ed schools and the grammar/high school faculty they create are not yet fully recognized by society.

This article doesn´t fully take into account the Left´s agenda, which is to bring down the USA and turn it socialist. Sure, Obama is "incompetent" and full of unearned hubris, but that´s judging him by reasonable standards, which do not apply in Left Land. The last thing the Left wants, for example, is a good, or even just competent, American commander in chief - look no further than how they loathed and feared W in that capacity. They want a failure, like Obama, because they want America to fail (economically, but especially at warring). Self-esteem issues are not the point, really. The point is: with what type of "leaders" can the Left achieve its goal? Leaders we would consider "good" are necessarily discounted by the Left - because the Left´s goals are bad. It matters not a whit if Dear Leader has 0% or 200% self-esteem, as long as Dear Leader looks out into the world every day and only sees the proletariate (or substitute any current designated victim group) oppressed by the bourgeoisie.

I agree with #18. Obama has no moral roots or values thanks to his parents who had no time for him and he is the most uneducated, uncultured, and unamerican president whose speech, mannerisms, and choices show exactly what he is, an actor who loves to dress up and put on a show with others writing the script.

Good essay. #15 is exactly right about the necessity of earning self-esteem. Unearned self-esteem gets into the muddy area of "rights," which are worthy as freedom from illegal government interference in daily life, but unworthy when one is trying to claim something he hasn´t earned and doesn´t deserve. One´s constitutional rights inhere from one´s mere existence. Self-esteem, if it´s not to be the stultifying nuisance it has become in today´s government schools, must be the result of doing things right and well.

One would be mistaken to say that Obama is a stupid individual; he manifestly is not (although he is quite ignorant: that´s another matter). But any of us who have been to the best schools were surrounded by classmates who were all well above average intelligence, and a few of them could fairly be called brilliant. In that crowd, Obama would have been in the cheap seats in the outfield. His intelligence quotient, while above the American average of about 98, is probably below 120. Hiding that fact is a daily job requiring thousands of gallons of printer´s ink and legions of pre-orgasmic brainwashed television acolytes. His inability to think on his feet, speak extemporaneously without running the gaffe gaudily through the point he´s trying to make, and his dependence on a plebian group of slogan-dependent speechwriters and aides de camp is a reliable signal that he is at bottom a rather ordinary dog. I´d debate him. And I´d make him look bad. So would numerous others on this news forum.

Moseley makes some excellent points. However, one would have to believe that the Indonesian schools and the elite prep school that Obama attended in the sixties and seventies were purveyors of the Self Esteem delusion. (The general sense is that this nonsense did not become the basis of modern public "education" until the eighties.) More likely, he learned nothing because, at least by his own account, Obama wasted his high school years goofing off and smoking weed.

Therefore, it is likely the Comrades really worked him over in college, and his overweening conceit and irregular upbringing made him all the more vulnerable to the siren song of the Self Esteem movement.

Clint Eastwood was ridiculed for addressing an empty chair, but IMHO, it was a brilliant demonstration of what is lacking in Dear Leader.

Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry said it all with one sentence: "A man´s got to know his limitations."

Obama is so arrogant, conceited and lacking in self-awareness, coupled with overwhelming self-regard, that he doesn´t know his limitations. As Ed Klein said in "The Amateur," he doesn´t know what he doesn´t know.

As the nation awaits Hillary Clinton´s decision of whether or not she will run for president in 2016, a cache of 7,500 pages of newly released documents from Bill Clinton´s years in the White House show some familiar political themes. One revelation is that Bill Clinton worried that a massive new healthcare scheme would cause Americans to lose their insurance. In 1993, the President allowed his wife, first lady Hillary Clinton, to become the face of an Obamacare-like takeover of the nation´s healthcare system. The plan was sarcastically dubbed Hillarycare. Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) on Friday called for a Senate hearing into the dispute between Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) over cattle grazing. Heller described as "patriots" the people who came armed to Bundy’s ranch after the BLM began to seize his cattle for refusing to pay grazing fees and fines that now total more than $1 million. Heller debated the ranch standoff on a Nevada television station with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who has called the armed Bundy supporters “domestic terrorists.” "What senator Reid may call domestic terrorists, I call patriots," Heller said.

If expanding the guest list to include Michelle Obama at graduation for high school students in the Kansas capital city means fewer seats for friends and family, some students and their parents would prefer the first lady not attend. A furor over what the Topeka school district considers an honor has erupted after plans were announced for Obama to address a combined graduation ceremony for five area high schools next month an 8,000-seat arena. For some, it was the prospect of a tight limit on the number of seats allotted to each graduate. For others, it was the notion that Obama´s speech,

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. The bushy-tailed visitor

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." For the 43-year-old Republican, the Reagan name illuminates his political life´s

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter — who used her talk show platform in the last presidential election cycle to campaign hard for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — has taken up the mantra once again, calling on Republicans to give the failed White House bidder another shot in 2016. She made the suggestion during a discussion on Sean Hannity’s radio show while speaking of her new book, “Never Trust a Liberal Over 3-Especially a Republican.” Ms. Coulter also addressed the question of Mr. Romney’s shortcomings by saying that his 2012 loss wasn’t entirely his fault. “I think too much blame, not only in this
