Copperhead

It´s a miracle! A fascinating and compelling movie whose plot is driven by the protagonist´s fidelity to the Constitution. (In fact there were more mentions of the Constitution than any other movie I have ever seen.) You have never seen a movie like Copperhead, and you ought to take the opportunity to see it on a big screen if you live in one of the forty-some cities where it is opening today. But even if you don´t, it is available today via all on-demand platforms, which is a great strategy to reach the widely dispersed audience

I´ll have to see it to really judge the movie. However, the war would not have started had the Confederates not attacked Ft. Sumter. It is THEY who started it, in their desire to perpetuate slavery (much in the same way that pro-abortionists today try to kill as many children as possible).

And, IMHO, Copperheads were both traitors and Democrats (but I repeat myself).

#1, that is simply not true. Only 1-2% of the South owned slaves. That was not the driving force of the revolution. It was a 10th amendment issue, not too dissimilar from what is happening today.

I´m a history buff. The Civil War, Alamo, WWI and WWII with the Old West thrown in.
I absorb every book and movie about such events.
Here´s my problem now, with the coming of the messiah, obama, I have soured on anything depicting blacks a superior in anything or thinking they are moved by or thinking of this Republic. I´m not imagining this because blacks prove me right everyday. No I won´t spend my meager disposable income on this movie.
Yes, I sound racist but I had faith in all men and races before this administration came along. Not anymore, blame it on obama.
Sorry Thomas Lifson I´ll just have to accept your opinion of the movie and just move along.

Soros/Obama predicated Zippy´s runs for the presidency on race, using it to justify his lack of experience, his refusal to prove his eligibility, while lulling ignorant blacks to vote for him as a point of honor--and doing everything he can to divide the races!

He proceeded to slap our country in the face, lying through his Marxist teeth while kicking loyal Americans you know where.

Obama is a traitor deserving every ounce of condemnation we can heap upon him.

Being of like mind that the Civil War should never have happened, I did a search to find a theater in my area. Very few in Texas, and none in my area.

I believe that, had the South been allowed to leave and not been invaded, the two countries would have formed strong partnerships and would have eventually re-united.

Studying American history from its beginnings and the understanding that the US was a voluntary union of states, will lend the perspective that they had a right to secede, much like the conservative Colorado counties have a right to their own destiny.

The founding documents indicate that government rules by the consent of the governed. The states, in joining the American confederation of states, did not give up their liberty to choose their destiny.

The war was a great tragedy for the nation, and most homes both North and South were touched with death, maiming, and suffering.

It´s a tad more complicated than that #1. The South was an export based economy and the North imposed import tariffs appeasing the rising influence of the industrialists. Europe´s response was of course to impose tariffs on Southern cotton. Yes crony capitalism at it´s worst; Northern fat cat industrialists and their political class against Southern plantation fat cats and theirs with 600K dead common folk stuck in the middle and we didn´t learn. Plenty of well intended folks in their hearts were fighting against slavery or for the constitution. Without those parallel social causes tugging at the people the economic root causes would not have driven us to national suicide.

The people who started the shooting in the Civil War did so to protect their status quo - which was Whites being superior to blacks - slavery being the principle symbol of that superiority. Like today, only the politicians harrumphed and declaimed about the Constitution, and did so only to obfuscate. The Republican movement was primarily a demand for the country to live up to it´s founding principles, treating blacks as human beings and not property.

The Democrats, elitists then and now, committed atrocities in their attempts to stop this idea. Before the war, they murdered their way through territories voting to become states, slaughtering the people there who disagreed with slavery, in attempts to boost the number of American states agreeing to permit slavery. They hired mercenaries to subvert (or overthrow) new democracies around the Caribbean to create slave states where they could buy and sell their human property.

I have to ask if ´Copperhead´ is merely propaganda? I´m not saying there weren´t Democrats who hated slavery, but the people usually called ´Copperheads´ were called that because they sympathized with the Southern cause. And frankly, any war on this scale is going to sweep up people who were innocent of any wrong doing.

Nothing better depicted Obama´s illegal tampering with the clear words of ObamaCare -- his announcement this week that he was delaying the employer mandate for medium-sized companies -- than Michael Ramirez´ brilliant cartoon showing the law as a blank page in which Obama had continually changed its words and meaning. Along similar lines, Charles Krauthammer observes: But generally speaking you get past the next election by changing your policies, by announcing new initiatives, but not by wantonly changing the law lawlessly. This is stuff you do in a banana republic. It´s as if the law is simply a blackboard on which Obama

In the business world, a diligent board of directors would have long ago fired CEO Obama. Sometimes it takes only a year of less than expected earnings to result in the termination of a corporate CEO. A couple of underperforming years and a few reasons more, and a CEO would have his bags packed and stowed underneath his buck-stopping desk. A long list of problems -- especially one suggesting even a hint of fraud -- that fails to generate a satisfactory board response would stir shareholders and lenders to demand the resignation of not only the CEO and other key employees,

This week the big story was the tag end of the old JournoList gang trying to spin gold out of the dross of the Congressional Budget Report. The CBO report projected that by 2021 under ObamaCare more than 2 million full-time workers will find it financially advisable to quit work entirely or switch to part-time jobs in order to get more subsidies for healthcare insurance. To most of us who studied real economics or just paid attention to human nature, subsidizing indolence means you´ll get more of it. Contradicting the faultless, albeit far-fetched image he has of himself, Barack Obama is a man harassed by truth. That´s why, judging from his inability to accept personal responsibility, Barack Obama must be living in a constant state of agitated cognitive dissonance. The late Leon Festinger is the social psychologist who proposed the theory of cognitive dissonance. According to Festinger, until the person suffering with perceptual disharmony can find a way to justify wrong actions and decisions, it´s impossible to achieve a calm mental state, especially when those wrong actions and decisions challenge the way the cognitively dissonant individual sees himself.
