The Food Network should have given Paula Deen the boot years ago. And not just because she shamelessly pushed killer diabetes-inducing food and then hooked up with a pharmaceutical company to push a $500-a-month diabetes drug. It should have fired her for her racist remarks, which were already a matter of speculation and rumor. But it took a public scandal like the one she’s embroiled in now for the Food Network to finally throw Deen out of the frying pan and into the fired. It’s a matter of record that racism and unethical practices have been bubbling
Even Deen´s worse recipes don´t compare to the super rich heart clogging foods serves by high end restaurants all over the country.Simple things like shrimp scampi. Both the Soprano´s star and Tim Russert died from eating these kinds of super rich diets.Russert was on cholesterol lowering drugs plus did some stationary bike riding but years of this kind of food consumption had already done them in.
The sopranos guy was also a heavy drinker that got out of control. The liver gives priority of ridding itself of alcohol and is too over worked to break the fats down in food.
I am having trouble understanding all the vitriol against this woman. Not really a fan but who cares if she made money with her traditional recipes. Are we now all forced to hate people who love traditional recipes? What is so terrible about discovering you have Diabetes and then changing your recipes to a more healthy focus and contracting with a company to endorse a drug they make for your affliction? Is this what our country has become?
FTA: Yesterday, Smithfield dropped Deen’s ham line, leaving us all to ponder whether a girl can ever recover from losing her hams.
Well, I guess she had to be dropped because she was Eeeeeevil. And she was evil because she said bad things as opposed to, say, subverting elections, encouraging criminal behavior, denying people their rights, promoting violence, etc.
This is all just BS. Deen´s contract with Food Network expires in leass than 2 weeks. If the issue was that Deen committed the cardinal sin of uttering the dread n-word years ago, then the Food Network could simply not chosen to renew her contract. Same thing for the diabetes drug sponsorship.
No, something else is going on. Food Network is publicly pillorying Deen. This is a personal attack on her that is totally unnecessary to meet their business objectives.
This is because Deen joked about Moochelle scarfing down large quantities of the chicken that Deen prepared during a commercial break when Moochelle was a guest on the show. I think she even made comparison to a horse. This is direct from the vindictive, vengeful, thin-skinned punk in the WH and his all-too-eager-to-please sycophants in media.
BOY, talk about low-info voters! If the people who watched and followed Deen´s recipes did not know the danger of high sugar/fat, where the heck have they been? Same with cigarette smoking, the dangers of that have been well known since I was a girl (long, long ago). Have people NO responsibility for their own actions?
Why is she being considered such a terrible person, but all black rappers make hundreds of millions of dollars calling each other n*gger in their "songs"? And when those same rapper creatures and other thugs on the street call me "honk ey," " cracker," or "youwhitemotherf*cker," why do they expect me to say "thank you?" Hm? .... (Crickets chirping....)

Linda Stasi, you are an elitist bigot but too ignorant to be aware of same.
I hate to tell you, "honey", but the food this woman cooks is for people who actually have to work for a living, like plowing a field or working a loading dock, not pretending to work by scribbling out some bilious exudate while digesting your wheatgrass juice and bean curd cakes.
Oh, and I am sure you have a Simon Pure background, never uttered a hurtful thing to a single living creature ever in your life, right? Go read your article and tell me that with a straight face.
People like you can bite me. Have a nice, long, despicable life.
Linda Stasi is a nasty piece of work who is so jealous of ANY type of success, she makes it her goal in life to destroy what she wishes she was. I´m no fan of Paula Deen, but this article is pathetic. I agree with #9.
We all (supposedly) live in an adult society where grown ups may cook or eat whatever they wish. Nothing wrong with that. I myself found some of Paula´s dishes easy to make and tasty. The irony is that the cruel inconsistencies of the Lefty politics she pursued by hobnobbing with Carter and campaigning for Zippy, finally got her.
So Jane Fonda and her pals in H´wood can utter the most disgusting, foul language in English on morning talk shows and that´s okay. It´s cute. But let an elderly southern woman utter forbidden words to white people, years ago, in private, and she´s fired!?! Mooch really does have a temper, now doesn´t she.
Wow, what a nasty article!!! What a nasty person Ms. Stasi must be. Although I shouldn´t be, I am always surprised at the vitriolic comments some of the so-called "enlightened elites" spew.
Re: her diabetes. I have never seen so many ignorant claims about a disease as I have since her diagnosis became public. One does not cause their diabetes; you can´t just eat your way to it. But the assumption being made is that everyone who eats the types of food Paula Deen makes will become obese, and that every obese person will automatically become diabetic. Here´s a quote from the American Diabetes Association: "Myth: If you are overweight or obese, you will eventually develop type 2 diabetes. Fact: Being overweight is a risk factor for developing this disease, but other risk factors such as family history, ethnicity and age also play a role.... Most overweight people never develop type 2 diabetes, and many people with type 2 diabetes are at a normal weight or only moderately overweight.
Here is a woman who makes pancakes, etc., and she is being dishonored. So much for such a tolerant society.
Presidents who have used drugs, smoked weed, VP who make constant stupid remarks.
Twenty years ago remarks being held against her today. She was attacked because of her political standing. Speech is now something to be watched because some little narrow individual will be listening and keeping a list.
#19 I don´t know #8 but I have followed her comments over the years and I find your comment out of line. We agree or disagree by # but abstain from personal attacks - or at least we try to. Better post next time.
Sorry, but I couldn´t finish this article. I am from the South and love fried chicken, biscuits, etc. and would love to point out to this nasty, narrow-minded bigot of a writer that people in the South don´t regularly keel over in their twenties or something.
I have spent a lifetime eating Paula Deen-type food. (although I´m not a big fan of hers) I had a heart cath last year (did you know that if you have "a lot of dense breast tissue" (the translation of that would get this booted) it will read as a blockage in 15% of stress tests?
Yeah, I´m 63, not skinny, a steroid-induced diabetic, (thanks to a stupid doctor). Since I have eaten Southern food all my life, my very young doctor was convinced I needed this procedure because of what looked like a "large blockage".
Glad they didn´t just cut me open. I have, as he put it after the cath, "Amazingly clear arteries".
So leave the Southern food alone, you dopes. It´s about lots of factors...according to my very well-respected cardiologist. And I suspect he is a lot smarter and better-educated that some imbecile writing for the NY Post.
I really don´t care if she used a bad word many years ago. He who is without sin... Has any black person come forward to say she used the racial insult directly at them? Is there evidence she discriminated against black people? This is really just an attack by the food police on someone who dares to advocate cooking with fat and sugar--ie, the stuff that makes food taste good. Where is the evidence that her food killed anyone or that it caused her own health problem? Diabetes can be inherited and can strike people of all shapes and sizes. Let the viewers decide if they want to watch her show and use the ratings to decide whether to renew her contract.
Talk about piling on, Linda. Nasty article and why? Paula is a talented cook who worked very hard to be rich and famous. Hey Linda, when your NY and Hollywood pals do this it´s applauded. Deen has a big potty mouth and she "went Hollywood" some time ago. Sitting down for a NYT interview LIVE, are you stupid or what? Of course, race just happened to come up? A trap! Linda only right about one thing. Deen loves publicity and the liberal-style apology tour is going to be something else.
1. It´s not the butter and fat that kills or causes cholesterol. It´s the CARBS. Eat all the Fat you want - stay away from the carbs. I think Paula Deen even discovered that because I read she lost weight limiting carbs.
2. This is designed to desensitize all of us to what happens to a person when they don´t toe the line. More of his to come.
3. All the hype about he BUTTER et al is a way of making us think that ´THEY´ know what´s best for us and by God, they WILL decide what we are going to eat. They can now do that with ocare.
4. She´s from te south and must be destroyed.
5. She dissed the first linebacker.
6. I had previously decided no more Smithfield or their subsidiaries due to even THINKING of selling out to he Chicoms. Look up their subsidiaries if you decide not to purchase their products.
Stasi is a northeastern liberal who has probably never been south of the Mason-Dixon line except maybe to jet into Miami Beach for cocktails. In this piece she attacks a lot of things we hold dear here in the South. No wonder we consider the War of Northern Aggression to continue in full swing.
I, too, believe that this is about the moose´s eating habits. Deen is a D but that didn´t protect her. obama himself said that revenge is the best signal to send. I think everyone who writes a negative article about Deen should have to pass a lie detector test. All questions must be about their thoughts on the black community. If they pass then they can write the article. Not everyone wants to live off of bean curd and carrots. You do not have to watch her, cook her recipes or buy her products. This is overkill. I wish more people were upset about the IRS, obama´s 100 million dollar trip to Africa and the other scandals.
I read an article in the local paper here how University of ALabama Birmingham Hospitals did a study to see how it was that their experiences at the hospital did not conform with national studies which showed Southerners to be the fattest. It turns out that it is simply that Southerners are more likely to tell the truth to pollsters.http://www.ift.org/food-technology/daily-news/2013/april/17/southerners-may-not-be-the-most-obese-in-the-us.aspx
A Circuit Courtroom decide in Ionia, Mich. threw out a lawsuit submitted by a newspaper editor versus six of her readers immediately after they complained about one particular of her tales. The tale that ran on Feb. 11, 2012 in the Ionia Sentinel-Standard was headlined, “Meth Labs Seized,” Wood Tv set 8 described. A sub-headline read, “Location was host to 2010 Republican rally.” In accordance to MLive, the original posting integrated a 2010 file image of the fundraiser, attended by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R). None of the 5 rally individuals pictured were connected to the bust of the meth
This is very funny. A Daily Kos regular gets his Obamacare premium notice and is shocked to learn that as young, healthy people, he and his wife will pay twice as much! My wife and I just got our updates from Kaiser telling us what our 2014 rates will be. Her monthly has been $168 this year, mine $150. We have a high deductible. We are generally healthy people who don’t go to the doctor often. I barely ever go. The insurance is in case of a major catastrophe. Well, now, because of Obamacare, my wife’s rate is gong to
To paraphrase one of the more memorable lines of American cinema: If you build it badly, they’ll stop coming. Every private-sector firm operating in the on-line market discovered that in 1995 or so, but the Obama administration only just started to learn it after spending hundreds of millions of dollars on the world’s worst web portal. And now consumers are staying away in droves, according to the Washington Post: The number of visitors to the federal government’s HealthCare.gov Web site plummeted 88 percent between Oct. 1 and Oct. 13, according to a new analysis of America’s online use, while less than
Does anyone else miss Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison? We´re not sure how much difference one person could make in the toxic, chaotic, hyperpartisan atmosphere in Washington, but if we could choose just one it would be Hutchison, whose years of service in the Senate were marked by two things sorely lacking in her successor, Ted Cruz. For one thing, Hutchison had an unswerving commitment to the highest and best interests of Texas at all times. This revealed itself in a thousand different ways. Hereabouts, we miss her advocacy for NASA, the Port of Houston and the energy industry. And we
Democracy isn’t a machine — it’s a dance. And as much as we all admire Thomas More’s famous speech in A Man for All Seasons — “I’d give the Devil the benefit of the law, for my own safety’s sake!” — the fact is we ignore the law all the time: Sammy Hagar can’t drive 55, and I have a sneaking suspicion that many bartenders receiving cash tips do not report every last penny to the IRS. The people we elect to represent us come to believe that they are there to rule us, and we push back against being
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) quietly dropped a bomb in its October Fiscal Monitor Report. Titled “Taxing Times,” the report paints a dire picture for advanced economies with high debts that fail to aggressively “mobilize domestic revenue.” It goes on to build a case for drastic measures and recommends a series of escalating income and consumption tax increases culminating in the direct confiscation of assets. Yes, you read that right. But don’t take it from me. The report itself says: “The sharp deterioration of the public finances in many countries has revived interest in a “capital levy”— a one-off tax on
The federal government is studying how to use Twitter for surveillance on depressed people. The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) began a study financed by the National Institutes of Health last month that will provide “population level depression monitoring” through the social media site. The project, “Utilizing Social Media as a Resource for Mental Health Surveillance,” is costing taxpayers $82,800. While Twitter has been used by government agencies, such as the Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security, for national security related monitoring, the project suggests the social network can be used for public health surveillance as well.
After months of anguished debate over mass shootings, gun control and Second Amendment rights, the Justice Department finds itself on the defensive after a training manual surfaced that suggests federal agents could face a firing squad for leaking government secrets. The online manual for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — complete with a photo of a turn-of-the-century firing squad — was obtained by The Washington Times from a concerned federal law enforcement official, and it immediately drew protests from watchdogs who said it showed a lack of sensitivity to gun violence and the continuing hostile environment toward
A farmer harvesting his fields in North Dakota has come across a massive oil spill, undetected long enough to become the size of seven football fields. Local media reports cite farmer Steve Jensen as saying the crude appeared to be coming from a rupture in an underground pipeline operated by Tesoro Corp. The farmer noted that he had smelled the crude for days but it wasn’t until he began harvesting his wheat fields that he discovered the source of the smell, as his combine got caught up in crude spewing up to six inches above the ground. The spill, discovered
First came Lois Lerner, who planted a question at an American Bar Association conference to get ahead of an inspector general finding that the IRS had unfairly targeted conservative organizations. Then it was former IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman. When he was asked during an appearance before the House Oversight Committee to explain why he had visited the White House 118 times, he cited “Easter Egg Roll with my kids” as one of his reasons. Now comes Sarah Hall Ingram, who formerly headed the IRS division that targeted conservative groups for mistreatment. Recently disclosed e-mails show that in that position Ingram shared personal
Singer Harry Belafonte is suing the family of the late Martin Luther King Jr. to get back documents the music and film star claims he retained through his close relationship with the civil-rights leader and had hoped to auction off for charity. The “King of Calypso” filed suit on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court against MLK’s daughter Bernice and the King estate “to resolve once and for all” a long-standing dispute over documents he tried to auction off in 2008 — only to have Bernice King claim the papers were “wrongfully acquired.” The documents include notes from an undelivered speech that King
If you´ve tried to sign up online for health coverage under the problem-plagued Obamacare exchange, our sympathies. Many people have tried to create accounts and shop for insurance under the new law. Few have succeeded. Those that have enrolled have found that the system is prone to mistakes. Some applications have been sent to the wrong insurance company. Wait. It gets worse. Those who have managed to browse the marketplace have often been hit by sticker shock. Take Adam Weldzius, a nurse practitioner and single father from Carpentersville. He sought the same level of coverage on the exchange as he and
Obamacare is imploding. But thanks to the government shutdown, everyone is talking about the implosion of the GOP instead. The shutdown drama has distracted from the fact that Obamacare’s debut is worse than many realize — and it threatens the fundamental viability of the law itself. The administration claims the Obamacare online exchanges crashed because the Web site got more than 8 million hits in the first week. Please. You know how many people visit Amazon.com every week? More than 70 million. The difference is: 1.) Amazon seldom crashes, and 2.) on Amazon, people actually buy something.
A New York Times investigative article based on two dozen interviews with industry insiders and confidential Obama Administration documents reveals that the catastrophic $500 million Obamacare rollout "has deeply embarrassed the White House" and has the technology companies involved "publicly distancing themselves" from the Obamacare fiasco. "These are not glitches. The extent of the problems is pretty enormous," an insurance executive who participated in Obamacare conference calls told the Times. "At the end of our calls, people say, ´It´s awful, just awful.´" The Times says those closest to the three-and-a-half year-long building of Obamacare, like embattled Health and Human Services
The American Indian leader spearheading the campaign to change the name of the Washington Redskins is not a legitimate member of the tribe he leads, according to a New York State Assemblywoman, but rather an Obama crony who is raking in casino money and paying back only small stipends to his tribe members. Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter, who is also the CEO of Oneida Nation Enterprises, is not recognized in his position by the Grand Council of Chiefs governing the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy. Halbritter is not a legitimate member of the Oneida tribe, Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney told The Daily
“I sit here all day trying to persuade people to do the things they ought to have sense enough to do without my persuading them,” Harry Truman once lamented. “That’s all the powers of the President amount to.” As usual, the plain-speaking Truman got it right: presidential power is the power to persuade. Too bad the current occupant of the White House has never learned this basic lesson. Barack Obama’s refusal to negotiate with the Republicans in Congress on the government shutdown is proof once again that he doesn’t understand
The US was scrambling to avert a potentially disastrous breach of its debt ceiling on Wednesday morning, after Republican attempts to table a deal collapsed in disarray overnight, leaving the prospects for a last-minute deal on a knife-edge. America´s divided political system now has just 24 hours to find a compromise to the budget stand-off between the White House and hardline Republicans, with the deadline to extend America´s borrowing limit falling due on Thursday. In a sign of plunging confidence in Washington on Wall Street, Fitch, a leading credit ratings agency announced that the US was now on a "negative watch"
It was bad enough when those teabagging Republican terrorists killed the First Lady’s Twitter account. Now they’ve taken her lovely garden hostage! Reuters: In the famous White House kitchen garden, tomatoes are rotting on the vine. Herbs have gone to seed. And the sweet potatoes – a favorite of President Barack Obama – have become worm food. It’s another impact of the government shutdown, one that only the fox and the many squirrels that live on the White House grounds could love… “Due to the shutdown, garden maintenance has been reduced considerably and only being watered as needed,” a White House official confirmed, speaking
Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) says he hopes the House “will get some adult supervision from the Senate” to achieve a debt ceiling deal. (Snip)King said he would vote for that deal, and blames Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for this fiscal mess. “Ted Cruz has been a total fraud from the start,” King said. “It never could have succeeded. I can’t imagine going into battle knowing you can’t win and continue telling your people you are winning. It’s Never Never Land, parallel universes, whatever you want to call it.” Congress, King added, will be back in the same boat in three to four
"Do the Republican and Democratic parties do an adequate job of representing the American people, or do they do such a poor job that a third major party is required?" A record 60% of Americans now yearn for a third major party, according to Gallup. Independents, unsurprisingly, are most likely to favor a third party, but a majority of self-described Republicans say yes, too. But what do they mean by that "yes"? Obviously, they mean many different things. Some yearn for a third party representing the Michael Bloomberg center: fiscally conservative and socially liberal like the New York City mayor. But here´s
President Obama has embraced “Obamacare” as the de facto name of his signature health care initiative. But the commander-in-chief believes that if the law ends up being a wild success, the moniker will disappear. “My suspicion is what is going to happen is when it’s working and everybody is really happy with it, Republicans are going to stop calling it ‘Obamacare,’” the president said Tuesday in an interview with New York´s WABC TV station. Key parts of the law — formally known as the Affordable Care Act — went into effect at the beginning of the month, but the roll-out has been marked
Nielsen has conducted an investigation into the ratings for Megyn Kelly’s new Fox News Channel show, “The Kelly File,” following grousing by MSNBC chief Phil Griffin. The investigation has revealed that the numbers for Kelly are accurate. Last Tuesday, the day after its debut, “The Kelly File” doubled its audience, crushing “The Rachel Maddow Show,” its MSNBC competition. Griffin called for a probe, dubbing the ratings feat “impossible.” Nielsen executives declined to comment.
The Left loves to think of itself as compassionate, and — indeed — many of my more liberal friends are among the most caring people that I know. So why does the Left cling so tightly to timetables and systems that not only risk rendering legal compliance with Obamacare mandates impossible but also place many families at real risk? Today, during our daily ACLJ radio show, Jay Sekulow Live, we asked listeners to call and tell us about their experiences with the exchanges. Of course we heard stories of repeated failures and frustrations, but also truly distressing stories of families dropped
The widow of an 80-year-old man who was shot dead by police during a drug raid on their home is suing for $50 million. On the night of June 27th, Los Angeles County deputies raided the home of Eugene Mallory and Tonya Pate. Authorities claim they had probable cause to search the premises because they could smell chemicals used to make methamphetamine while standing outside the house. Police suspected Mallory of being involved in an illegal meth ring. Mallory was asleep in bed
