Hostess is betting that its Twinkies comeback will be a sweet one. The company that went bankrupt after an acrimonious fight with its unionized workers last year is back up and running under new owners and a leaner structure. It says it plans to have Twinkies and other snack cakes back on shelves starting July 15. Based on the outpouring of nostalgia sparked by its demise, the new Hostess is expecting a blockbuster return next month. The company says the cakes will taste the same but that the boxes
This is a result of union stupidity and greed. Maybe, just maybe the union thugs won´t be so stupid next time. The company is now non-union and should be a roaring success without having to deal with the enormous dead weight of a union hanging around its neck. Death to unions! Hopefully this will be another nail in the coffin of unions whose membership declines every year.
Unions at their root are Communist in nature. Their members okay violence, assault, greed and hatred to get their way. I had never seen union nastiness before living near Seattle. It´s an education to see a Boeing union protest event in person. #4, yes. The "scabs" stuff not even present in a non-union company. May God bless and prosper the new Twinkies company and their workers.
I realize they are not technically scabs (hence the quotes, "scabs"), I just doubt the union thugs see it that way. The worst thing that could happen to the union is for former union workers to thrive and be happy at their old jobs sans union.
I bet the new Twinkies will taste even better not being made by Union thugs. I will probably buy a few to help celebrate kicking the Union out of that company. Free market Capitalism is great. Remember, Union thugs are behind Obamacare. The Union stink runs through the IRS also, giving IRS Union employees recent bonuses after all the crap they pulled harassing TEA Party groups.
California has become the first state to enshrine certain rights for transgender K-12 students in state law, requiring public schools to allow those students access to whichever restroom and locker room they want. Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown announced Monday that he had signed AB1266. The new law gives students the right "to participate in sex-segregated programs, activities and facilities" based on their self-perception and regardless of their birth gender. Supporters said the law will help reduce bullying against transgender students. It comes as the families of transgender students have been waging local battles with school districts around the country
North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) on Monday signed into law one of the nation’s most wide-ranging Voter ID laws. The move is likely to touch off a major court battle over voting rights, and the Justice Department is weighing a challenge to the new law. The measure requires voters to present government-issued photo identification at the polls and shortens the early voting period from 17 to 10 days. It will also end pre-registration for 16- and 17-year-old voters who will be 18 on Election Day and eliminates same-day voter registration. Democrats and minority groups have been fighting
EDGARTOWN, Mass. — President Barack Obama is playing golf despite rain that is dampening the second day of his Martha´s Vineyard vacation. Before leaving his rented home in the town of Chilmark on Monday, the White House says he was briefed by national security adviser Susan Rice, who accompanied the president on vacation. The White House released a photograph of the two sitting across from each other at a table and dressed in what appeared to be gym clothes. Obama is playing at the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown with Washington power broker Vernon Jordan,
ALBANY— President Obama is expected to make a trip to upstate New York next week as he travels the country to promote his “better bargain for the middle class.” The White House’s pool report, citing an unnamed White House official, said the president would travel Aug. 22 and 23 on a two-day bus tour through New York and Pennsylvania. The online news site Politico, citing unnamed sources, said Obama was scheduled to make several stops in upstate New York. Two sources confirmed the trip to Gannett’s Albany Bureau. There was no immediate comment from the White House on where the
A new political dynasty might soon be joining the Kennedys, Clintons and Bushes: Duck Dynasty, that is. Some key Republican operatives are eager to woo one of the hit show´s stars--Willie Robertson--to run for the seat given up by retiring Republican Rep. Rodney Alexander. Alexander, expressing frustration with divided government, is going to work in Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal´s cabinet. He will leave at the end of September and a special election will be held to fill the open seat. He represents the 5th District, including Monroe, La., home to the group
President Obama enjoyed an afternoon of golf at Farm Neck Golf Course and dinner out with friends at Sweet Life Cafe in Oak Bluffs Sunday, two places he has visited often during his Martha´s Vineyard vacations. (Snip)Just before 7:30 pm, the president and Mrs. Obama arrived at Sweet Life Cafe on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs to dine with a group of friends. President Obama waved to a small crowd of people gathered in front of the Oak Bluffs Inn across the street as he stepped out of his vehicle. He bounded up the front steps with a smile

Jurors convicted Bulger on charges related to 11 of the 19 murders he was charged with under a wide-ranging federal indictment that also implicated him with extortion, money laundering and other charges dating back to the purported mobster´s reign as leader of South Boston´s Winter Hill Gang. The verdict brings the case one step closer to closure
A Manhattan federal court judge today ripped the NYPD’s controversial stop-and-frisk practices, saying the city acted with “deliberate indifference” in sanctioning these “unconstitutional” searches by cops. The NYPD has been systematically targeting minorities and violating their Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures and 14th Amendment guarantees of due process and equal protection, according to US District Court Judge Shira Scheindlin. “I find that the City is liable for violating plaintiffs’ Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights,” Scheindlin wrote. “The City acted with deliberate indifference toward the NYPD’s practice of making unconstitutional stops and conducting unconstitutional frisks.”
Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) told a town hall crowd this weekend that he believes there are enough votes in the House to impeach President Obama. Responding to a question about the president’s birth certificate, Farenthold said “I think, unfortunately, the horse is already out of the barn on this, on the whole birth certificate issue.” He lamented that the time has passed to effectively “do” something about what he believes is a cover-up surrounding the president’s misleading birth certificate: “The original Congress — when his eligibility came up — should’ve looked into it and they didn’t.
On Morning Joe Monday morning, host Joe Scarborough cautioned RNC Chairman Reince Priebus away from his boycott of various networks producing Hillary Clinton film projects, reminding Priebus that the GOP needed to expand its electoral base, not consolidate it. “You don’t win the presidency, if you’re a Republican, by winning northwest Florida,” Scarborough said. “You win it by winning the I-4 corridor, by winning the suburbs, Columbus, Ohio, the suburbs of Philadelphia. That’s why you want to be on as many networks as possible.” Earlier in the segment, Harold Ford had quipped that Priebus would be left with BET and TV1
NEW YORK— Darius McCollum can explain the complicated workings of the New York City transit system with the precision of a veteran conductor. He knows every subway stop, every line, every train. It´s an obsession that has dominated his life. But instead of becoming a transit worker, he´s become a transit impostor. Twenty-nine times, beginning when he was a teenager, he´s been arrested for crimes that include piloting a subway train, stealing a bus and donning uniforms to pose as a conductor and even track worker. "I´ve always loved trains, ever since I can remember.
If you were to list the Americans most critical in facilitating the collapse of the Soviet Union, the name of Bill Clark, or "Judge Clark," might not be on your list -- but it should be. Many of us know that no president was as crucial to that collapse as Ronald Reagan, but few know that no adviser was as crucial to Reagan in that endeavor as Bill Clark. I know this well. I was blessed to become Clark´s biographer, and for about 12 years, dating back to when we first met in August 2001, I spent many hours
The sales assistant who refused to show U.S. talkshow billionaire Oprah Winfrey a luxury handbag costing nearly £25,000 claims the superstar lied about what happened in the luxury Swiss boutique where she works. Speaking anonymously to Sunday newspaper SonntagsBlick, the Italian bag lady said she felt ´powerless´ and in the grip of a ´cyclone´ after Winfrey went on TV in America to claim she had been the victim of racism. Winfrey was in Switzerland in July when she walked into the Trois Pommes boutique in Zurich looking for a handbag to match the outfit she was going to
While media mogul Oprah Winfrey has been promoting her new film, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” she revealed she was a recent victim of profiling while shopping in a store in Zurich.(Snip)“I was in Zurich the other day at a store, whose name I will not mention,” Winfrey said on “Entertainment Tonight,” “and I didn’t have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear…but obviously, ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ is not shown in Zurich. So this doesn’t happen to me unless somebody obviously doesn’t know that it’s me.” Winfrey went on to explain that she was in Zurich for Tina Turner’s wedding,
In a story that has remained largely under the mainstream media radar, Congress announced late last month that it would finally investigate the Aug. 6, 2011 helicopter crash in Afghanistan that resulted in 38 deaths, including 22 members of SEAL Team 6, made famous three months earlier when they killed Osama Bin Laden. Grieving family members insist that soldiers in the elite unit were placed in unnecessary danger by the recklessness of the Obama administration, whose actions they characterized as criminal. “We’re going to dive into this,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT),
Appearing on This Week With George Stephanopoulos, Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert battled not only the Democratic panelists but also conservative pundit George Will over the wisdom of shutting down the government to prevent Obamacare funding. Gohmert strongly condemned President Barack Obama’s argument at Friday’s news conference that the GOP’s “holy grail” was enying millions of people health insurance. “That’s a false narrative,” Gohmert said. “He says we’re trying to keep people from having health care. That’s just not true. That is an absolute, blatant lie. We’re not trying to keep anybody from getting health care.
During his Wednesday appearance on Jay Leno´s "Tonight Show,´ President Obama made three factual gaffes; one of them involved the claim that cities not found along the Gulf of Mexico are. Were Obama a Republican, these gaffes would have led news coverage for the next forty-eight hours. Not only did most of the media ignore or downplay these gaffes; the Associated Press went so far as to cover one of them up. In its coverage Thursday, rather than point out the president´s geographical error, the wire service made it look as though no error was made.
The taxpayer-supported Missouri State Fair is getting a lot of negative publicity in social media Sunday following a report of a shameful stunt that occurred Saturday night in Sedalia. (Snip) Basically, a clown wearing a mask of Obama came out during the bull riding event. The crowd was asked if it wanted to see Obama “run down by a bull. Things got worse from there." Things got worse from there, which doesn’t surprise me, given the anti-Obama feeling among many fairgoers from rural Missouri, where Obama lost to Mitt Romney (at least 60-40 percent in much of outlying parts of state)
Ames, Iowa — Donald Trump delivered a blistering attack on Mitt Romney’s campaign today. “I don’t know what the hell happened with his campaign,” Trump said in a speech at The Family Leader Summit. “I just don’t get it. That was an election that couldn’t have been lost.” “Every single state that they asked me to go or do some phone calls or some television, we won in the primaries,” Trump remarked. But he also criticized what the campaign had initially wanted him to say in robocalls. “They gave me this most pathetic thing to say. I said,
During an hour-long deep dive into the growing use of food stamps in America, Fox News highlighted “the new face of food stamps.” That new face is a pina colada-sipping, lobster-loving lothario named Jason Greenslate. Greenslate, a 29-year-old La Jolla California surfer and musician who sings that he does not want a “motherfucking job” and has “fuck no” guilt about living on $200 of what he calls “free money ” — or what the government called Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Benefits — while he avoids a job to hang out on the beach, sing and chase women.
President Obama took his case for ending the sequester to hundreds of disabled veterans Saturday, saying he protected their benefits from the “reckless” cuts to the federal budget but suggesting next year might be different. “It’s hurting our military. I made it clear that your veteran’s benefits are exempt from this year’s sequester,” the president said to the applause of hundreds at the Disabled American Veterans´ convention in Orlando, Fla. “But I want to tell you going forward the best way to protect the VA care you have earned is to get rid of this sequester altogether.”
Rooms have to be found for dozens of Secret Service agents, someone has to carry a selection of presidential basketballs, and of course the family dog needs his own state-of-the-art aircraft. Arriving in the idyllic coastal retreat of Martha´s Vineyard in Massachusetts, Mr Obama left behind him in Washington DC high profile debates over the budget, government surveillance and his health care reforms. Instead, he will spend the next eight days playing golf, going to the beach, and buying books from the Bunch of Grapes bookstore.
Eydie Gorme, a popular nightclub and television singer as a solo act and as a team with her husband, Steve Lawrence, has died. She was 84. Gorme, who also had a huge solo hit in 1963 with "Blame it on the Bossa Nova," died Saturday at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas following a brief, undisclosed illness, said her publicist, Howard Bragman. Gorme was a successful band singer and nightclub entertainer when she was invited to join the cast of Steve Allen´s local New York television show in 1953. She sang solos and also did duets and comedy skits with Lawrence, a rising young singer who had joined
Potential 2016 presidential contender Donald Trump spoke to ABC’s Jonathan Karl Sunday morning and reignited the birther issue that he helped spark back in 2011, questioning the legitimacy of Barack Obama’s birth certificate and wondering whether Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada, was eligible to president. “Was there a birth certificate?” Trump asked. “You tell me. Some people say that was not his birth certificate. I’m saying I don’t know. Nobody knows. And you don’t know, either, Jonathan. You’re a smart guy, you don’t know, either.” “I’m pretty convinced he was born in the United States,” Karl said.
