A cooling consensus
The Economist, by W.W. Houston

Original Article

Posted By:DaddyO, 6/22/2013 5:52:16 AM

Global warming has slowed. The rate of warming of over the past 15 years has been lower than that of the preceding 20 years. There is no serious doubt that our planet continues to heat, but it has heated less than most climate scientists had predicted. Nate Cohn of the New Republic reports: "Since 1998, the warmest year of the twentieth century, temperatures have not kept up with computer models that seemed to project steady warming; they’re perilously close to falling beneath even the lowest projections".

Comments:
The Economist is a pretty far left source.. the author would be called a denier for writing this a few years ago.

Look how stubborn the dogma is about global warming. This article does reveal that, not only is the planet not warming, it is actually cooling. Yet, the "journalist" feels compelled to state, "There is no serious doubt that our planet continues to heat". So, to reference facts that show that the planet is not continuing to heat is to be not serious, but to believe that it is warming despite the facts showing otherwise _is_ to be serious?

How wonderful that Dear Leader reminded the world in his magnificent Berlin speech that Global Warming will destroy our planet unless the evil capitalists are reigned in and their evil profits redistributed. Dear Leader´s mind is so far beyond mere science that we can trust Him implicitly, like the voice of God descending from on high. Thank you, Dear Leader, for warning us about Global Warming and the capitalist threat.

Science is not conducted by taking a vote. Not only do the so called climate models not predict what has occurred they don´t even agree among themselves. Big money taken from the taxpayers has been used by corrupt politicians to corrupt climate science.

Hey, "W.W". - - get this straight. It´s impossible to measure the world´s temperature to within one-hundredth of a degree - - the precision necessary to make statistically valid projections - - even with today´s advanced technology.

And it´s also impossible to make any kind of worthwhile projections without at least 1,000 years of precise worldwide temperature measurements.

So - - everything you´ve just written is pure, unscientific garbage.

Get back to me when you know what the temperatures were in Tierra Del Fuego or over the south Indian Ocean to within 1/100th of a degree 1,000 years ago.

Idiot!

I´ve read this article twice and don´t see (tacit) admission of cooling but only slower warming, less disastrous warming and warming levels that had not been predicted (on the low side).

FTA: The rather heated debates we have had about the likely economic and social damage of carbon emissions have been based on that idea that there is something like a scientific consensus about the range of warming we can expect. If that consensus is now falling apart, as it seems it may be, that is, for good or ill, a very big deal.

THAT is as close as the author gets to being ticked about being lied to and manipulated.

Mild. Too, too mild.

You can feel the YEARNING by the author for facts that will reestablish warming as a valid belief for the left. But.... those darn facts are making it so hard to advocate for it. So maybe, just maybe they don´t really understand it all. (It´s kind of hard to form a consensus about something you don´t really understand)

So the left is casting everywhere for hidden warmth. Where has it been hidden? The more looking, the more areas get ruled out. Not the atmosphere. Not the earth´s surface. Not the top 700 feet of the ocean.

Maybe the deep oceans? Not that they have any more proof of deep ocean warming than they do for warming in general. The whole thing is an unproven theory. But the left treats THEIR suppositions as facts until ABSOLUTELY discredited.

The author throws up a lot of mud by trying to discuss the various measurement and modeling strategies. But the reality is that there is a lot of variance and DISAGREMENT of how much warming, if any, may happen. Sea level rises have been very minimal and steady. No threat there. Even if we accept all the extreme measures they want to foist on us the predicted impact is a few tenths of a degree less, essentially of no value.

The common sense approach would be to adapt as it becomes necessary, if it ever does. Right now there is nowhere near enough knowledge to know what will happen for the next 5 years, let alone 100 years from now.

As a climate Realist, I feel pleased that the climate Alarmists are being forced to climb off their high horses. They owe us an apology for their arrogance and foolishness.

#6, #7 ~ it´s all simpler than dirt.

About 17 years ago we began total Earth temperature measurement from satellites designed with that purpose ~ even checking temperatures at different elevations in the atmosphere.

Voila, the Earth quit warming.

NO IT DIDN´T!!!!

The Earth had been ´warming´ and ´cooling´ in cycles for billions of years ~

Unfortunately except for some diatoms that developed about half a billion years ago NOBODY could tell temperature.

Then the thermometer was invented, placed hither and yon, and loosely managed. Next thing you know we had these guys scarfing up the unvetted data from those thermometers and told us IT´S GETTING HOTTER ~ that coincided with the proliferation of air conditioners in the vicinity of those thermometers, and in some cases, jet planes (Then there´s that standard weather unit on the berm of I70 near Dayton OH)

But, whadda´ they know. They really didn´t. Now we know. It ain´t.

We are 5,000 years overdue for a return to Ice Age conditions. It takes about 10 years to rebuild a serious icesheet, and then it´s all over for another 100,000 years!

Could start this Fall.

Sunday’s announcement that Piers Morgan had lost his show at CNN was hardly unexpected. Some, such as Variety magazine, have speculated that the low ratings are due to Morgan’s single-minded push for gun control. That might have something to do with it, but much more is going on.
