Intelligence chief Clapper: I gave
‘least untruthful’ answer on U.S. spying

Yahoo! News, by Olivier Knox

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 6/11/2013 11:10:02 PM

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is really struggling to explain why he told Congress in March (see video above) that the National Security Agency does not intentionally collect any kind of data on millions of Americans. His latest take: It´s an unfair question, he said, like "When are you going to stop beating your wife?" And it seems to depend on the meaning of "collect." "I responded in what I thought was the most truthful, or least untruthful, manner by saying ´no,´" Clapper told NBC News on Sunday.

Well, Carney will have to tie himself into a sheepshank at least to answer a real question about this one.

Maybe even a Gordian knot.

Maybe a couple of important questions should be: How many additional Gov´t workers have been added to this spy program by the 0bama administration?(That huge facility in Utah has added jobs to build it and certainly to man it.) Is this just a jobs program?

It depends upon what the meaning of "is" is. For such game playing, the slippery Mr. Bill was held in contempt by a federal judge and lost his license to practice law. Oh, and yes, also impeached.

The massaging of the truth via creative language is a huge problem in our government. We can´t get a straight answer from anyone because no one can even answer a simple yes or no question. It really is pathetic. They have sacrificed personal integrity for political ideology. When there is no right or wrong in your world and everything is predicated on situational ethics driven by your political beliefs, a moral compass becomes obsolete.

FTA: "Last week, Clapper said his "no" meant that NSA analysts don´t read Americans´ emails. Some have noted that could explain his earlier answer because "collect" has a precise meaning in intelligence-gathering circles, and it´s along those lines."

What Clapper should have said is that NSA does not target Americans´ emails specifically. However, if they are targeting emails of, for example, terrorists, I suspect that if an American might be communicating with them, and the NSA analysts would be able to read those emails as well. Also, under FISA, anyone living in the U.S. is considered a "U.S. person", regardless of their citizenship status.

Back to the definition of "is", etc. Amazing how they can lie to the people responsible for oversight and pay no penalty or feel any shame. He was asked a direct question and should have given a direct answer. If he felt it was a security problem to discuss the program he should have declined to discuss it in s public forum.

He lied!

Remember how the Dem/Lefties attached the name of "Bush" to everything, in order to make the issue superlatively loathesome?

Well, from now on, we ought to do the same with this President. Ergo, It is "Obama´s Clapper", "Obama´s IRS", "Obama´s NSA spying machine", oh, and lest we forget, "Obama´s rotten economy" "Obama´s pathetic job creation" etc

This is because i think Rush has identified a key reason why BO seems separate from all the wreckageof his regime.

So, it´s "Obama´s DNI, Clapper" --he looked fidgety, nervous, sweaty he LOOKED like a liar. Was he doing this on purpose? Is he actually uncomfortable being Obama´s Clapper?

You know, it´s becoming clearer and clearer to me why Supreme Court chief justice John Roberts switched sides on the ObamaCare ruling. The regime was determined to make ObamaCare the law of the land and using the regime´s governent snoops to persuade John Roberts to change his mind was probably in the mix. Intimidation, threats against his family, I put nothing past the regime. There must really be something to hide in Roberts´ closet...

Another thing I noticed during the last Presidential election. With the huge crowds Romney was drawing at every event, The Won never seemed concerned. Obama drew very small crowds in comparison but he never broke a sweat. It didn´t matter to him because he knew who was COUNTING the votes. Hmmmmmm.

We are living in dangerous times.

No. 35 Regarding John Roberts, recently I heard something to the effect that perhaps what "they" have on him has to do with the circumstances of the adoption of his children. He married his wife when he was 41 and she about the same age, in 1996. Their 2 adopted kids, John and Josie were both born in 2000.

He also has a history of "seizures" one of which caused him to fall off a dock in Maine a few years ago. No cause for the seizure was determined.

He was a District Judge for only 2 years before being selected as Chief Justice.

There´s enough right there to speculate upon.

I have been shocked, mortified, filled with disdain, disappointed, saddened, hopeful, hopeless, confused, sueprised, stunned, awed in a bad way, disgusted, ashamed and numbed by the actions and statements of our government.

Notice how it is more than the 5 stages of grief. Notice it is nothing positive. Notice how they seem almost intent on exhausting us to the point of saying, "I just can´t take anymore. I give up."

Still, I cannot throw up my hands and walk away, I love my country, apparently more than many of those employed to work for and protect her.

I am exhausted, yet, I have not seen nor heard of one protest or uprising about all of this. I thought about standing on my street corner, about being the first. But, only the cows would see me.

Cloward-Pivening America´s outrage capacity. Overwhelming the news with an avalanche of scandal. Flash mobbing the investigating committees. Sensory overload. Anger fatigue. Pounding America into insanity. Then denial. Then guilt. Then acceptance and resignation.

Watch people go through the stages. Marvel at the utterances of Peter King and Dana Perino. Watch conservatives cheer for the ACLU´s latest lawsuit. "Shaking the box." Cats sleeping with dogs (sorry - couldn´t resist). Listen to constitutionalists deny that there is a constitutional issue. Then wait for for the guilt - blaming the American people. And finally, acceptance of the devil´s bargain: trade freedom for security. And once freedom is gone, anything can be imposed, because all ability to resist has been traded away.

It is mass battered wife syndrome. And it is not an accident.

The scariest part to me is whether the software is keeping up with the data. You can bet that it´s full speed ahead on that front. When you combine everything that is collected... from Telephone call metadata, Email metadata, Google searches, Bank Account transactions, Credit Card transactions, Amazon purchases, Netflix rentals, Blog visits, Blog postings, PAC Contributions, ad infinitum, you have the makings of 1984 given the right analytical software. It would finally be possible to predict thought crimes or to anticipate "criminal" activity BEFORE the act. I´m sorry, but we are there. Orwell was just 29 years early.

Liberals are their own worst enemy. If they weren’t so afraid of being accused of “profiling”, they could intelligently focus their efforts. Instead of collecting a gazigabit of metadata on everyday hardworking American families, they could actually spy on (monitor phone and internet use of) potential terrorists, like devout Muslims who:
a) were openly communicating with a radical jihadist imam – like Major Nidal Hasan, the Ft. Hood terrorist; or
b) had been identified as a radical Islamist (by Russia, no less), been interviewed by the FBI, had traveled to an Islamist hot spot for 6 MONTHS, was posting pro-Islamist videos on social media, and had accessed articles on bomb-making on an online Al Qaeda magazine – like Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the Boston Marathon bombers

After reading about the Google head, Eric Schmidt, and "the cave" at Obama campaign headquarters, I guess Obama knew what he was talking about.

President Barack Obama’s appearance on funnyordie.com’s parody show “Between Two Ferns,” where he took mock questions from comic Zach Galifianakis, was a lot of things: funny, unusual, an intriguing way to sell Obamacare and very popular. One thing it was not, though, was an “interview” — unless you’re White House press secretary Jay Carney. Carney was defending the administration’s aggressive campaign to get young people to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. When they saw the little boy throw his leg over the window sill, Konrad rushed to put the mattress down. He was able to break the child’s fall, placing him onto the mattress. California public health officials say 19 of the 32 cases of measles they have confirmed so far this year are in people who had not been vaccinated, and of that group, 14 were intentionally not vaccinated. As the number of measles cases continues to grow across the state — there were only three by this time last year — officials at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) have urged parents against opting out of vaccinating their children. They say an increase in the number of people choosing not to vaccinate could drive a resurgence of the respiratory disease, since

VILNIUS, Lithuania—Vice President Biden’s we’re-all-in-this together tour of Eastern Europe, a two-country stop that concludes here Wednesday, has highlighted not only the growing regional anxieties over Russia’s designs on Ukraine but also how much work the Obama administration has to do to convince allies of its support. At its core, Biden’s message here and in Poland was a simple reaffirmation of what one senior administration official called a “bedrock commitment”: The United States would honor NATO’s basic premise that if one member nation is attacked, all would come to its defense. SEVASTOPOL/MOSCOW--The United States warned Moscow it was on a "dark path" to isolation on Wednesday after Russian troops backed by unarmed volunteers stormed Ukraine´s naval headquarters in the Crimean port of Sevastopol and raised their flag. The dramatic seizure came as Russia and the West dug in for a long confrontation over Moscow´s annexation of Crimea, with the United States and Europe groping for ways to increase pressure on a defiant Russian President Vladimir Putin. "As long as Russia continues on this dark path, they will face increasing political and economic isolation," said U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, referring to reports of

The hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 took yet another maddening turn Tuesday as officials in Thailand revealed radar picked up a plane about the same time the jet disappeared. Speaking 11 days after the Boeing 777 vanished en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, Royal Thai Air Force spokesman Montol Suchookorn said radar showed an unidentified aircraft tracking west toward the Strait of Malacca at 1:28 a.m. on March 8. Flight 370 stopped communicating with air-traffic controllers eight minutes earlier. Suchookorn said the Thai military doesn’t know if the plane on the radar was Flight 370. He said “we did

WASHINGTON — The first lady, Michelle Obama, is soon to lose her executive pastry chef, Bill Yosses. And she is partly to blame. She has piqued his interest in the relationship between food and health, he said in a recent telephone interview, so the man who made the Hawaiian chocolate-malted ganache for the White House state dinner for France is now headed to New York with an aim to teach children and adults about eating better. In the meantime, he has given up his usual breakfast doughnuts for a smoothie made with apple, kale, spinach and ginger — from time to

When the left finally cracks up, the few survivors will have a really good laugh. According to a Facebook post, Somali staffers that work at Minneapolis City Hall declared February 28 “Hijab Day” at City Hall and convinced the police chief and female city council reps to wear hijabs on the job. Pictures include: Minneapolis police chief Janee Harteau (who recently married her favorite female sergeant – not very hijab like), city council members Elizabeth Glidden and Lisa Bender as well as other staffers. There’s nothing like a lesbian feminist authority figure who boasts of being the first female

In his ongoing investigation of fake EPA spy John Beale, Sen. David Vitter (R., La.) is increasingly focused on Beale´s role in leading a 1997 rewrite of federal rules on air quality. Beale not only forced a quick conclusion based on questionable data. He also pressured the Clinton Administration´s Office of Management and Budget to stop criticizing the new rules, known as the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for Ozone and Particulate Matter. In a draft report, Sen. Vitter also places the Beale rules in context: "Since the 1997 standards were issued, EPA has steadfastly refused to facilitate independent

France will restrict auto use in Paris beginning Monday in an effort to reduce dangerous pollution levels in the country’s capital. Paris’ high number of private car drivers and France’s diesel subsidies make the city more susceptible to high levels of smog than other European capitals, and a recent week of a warm, sunny weather has made the air quality worse, Reuters reports. Paris has 147 micrograms of particulate matter per cubic meter of air, compared with 81 in Berlin and 79.7 in London. The plan being introduced Monday calls for drivers to only use their cars on alternate days

With New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stalled by the “Bridgegate” affair, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has become the establishment´s candidate and top pick to win the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, according to a new analysis of the race. “We now consider Bush the leader of the field if he decides to run,” said the influential “Crystal Ball” from the University of Virginia´s Center for Politics. “In recent months, we’ve noticed an unmistakable and widespread desire among some of the Republicans we talk to, particularly ones who would be classified as members of the establishment on and off Capitol Hill, for a third Bush nominee in less than three decades.

(Video) The Obama ladies are in the house — the house of China, that is. First lady Michelle Obama, her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, and her mother touched down Thursday in China for what’s being touted as a weeklong feel-good tourist event, amid increasing murmurs back home about U.S. taxpayers having to foot the bill. Mrs. Obama is supposed to use her visit for soft diplomacy only, and shy from the more controversial topics that plague U.S.-China relations, namely human rights and economics. No reporters accompanied the family on the trip. “The nature of her visit is really quite

“Obamacare” as shorthand for the Affordcable Care Act was first used mostly by critics of the law, but now everyone’s using the moniker and President Obama has long since embraced it. But apparently no one told Nancy Pelosi, because she’s still ticked off at how much people talk about “Obamacare” instead of the “Affordable Care Act.” In response to a reporter asking a question about Obamacare being a political winner or loser, Pelosi said, “By the way, it’s called the Affordable Care Act. It’s called the Affordable Care Act. I know you didn’t intend any compliment or derogatory––it’s called the

Secretary of State John Kerry called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday morning to protest insults the Israeli defense minister directed at the Obama administration this week, the State Department said. In a speech at Tel Aviv University on Monday, Moshe Ya’alon criticized President Obama for having a weak foreign policy, and said Israel could no longer rely on the United States to lead nuclear negotiations with Iran. “Secretary Kerry spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu this morning. And he protested to him his concerns about these comments,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Wednesday. The U.S., Psaki reaffirmed, maintains an “unshakable

Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he thinks Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick “would make a great president or vice president.” Obama and Patrick, both Democrats, are friends and close political allies. The two men have campaigned for each other, with Patrick acting as a surrogate for Obama nationally during the 2012 presidential race. Patrick has said clearly that he intends to return to the private sector when his second term as governor is up at the end of the year and will not run for president in 2016. But he has not ruled out a run for office in the

Ellen DeGeneres was a completely slavish toady to President Obama as he appeared on her show to sell Obamacare -- not to young people, but to mothers. The president made his pitch to "especially all the moms out there who may have young people – 26, 27, do not have health insurance, but they think they’re invincible and nothing’s ever going to happen to ‘em – what we’ve said is you never know what life is going to throw at ya."

College basketball can wait. Did you know that March is actually National Nutrition Month? Today, First Lady Michelle Obama urged Americans via her "Let´s Move!" initiative to challenge their family members to eat one new fruit or vegetable per week in March to faithfully observe the occasion. "March is National Nutrition Month and you can celebrate by challenging your family to try a new fruit or vegetable each week," First Lady Michelle Obama said in an e-mail to supporters today. Never mind that there were less than two "each weeks" left in National Nutrition Month when the e-mail challenge was

First lady Michelle Obama will not take questions from reporters or give interviews during her tour of China that begins today, and members of the press corps who usually follows the first family everywhere have been banned from the trip. The resulting picture is one of an expensive, taxpayer-funded vacation for Mrs. Obama, her two daughters, and her mother – and not the official good-will journey the White House has promised. White House press officials won´t comment to MailOnline about whether the ban on media interviews applies equally to American journalists and Chinese reporters. ´How does this comport with the
