Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is really struggling to explain why he told Congress in March (see video above) that the National Security Agency does not intentionally collect any kind of data on millions of Americans. His latest take: It´s an unfair question, he said, like "When are you going to stop beating your wife?" And it seems to depend on the meaning of "collect." "I responded in what I thought was the most truthful, or least untruthful, manner by saying ´no,´" Clapper told NBC News on Sunday.
Maybe a couple of important questions should be: How many additional Gov´t workers have been added to this spy program by the 0bama administration?(That huge facility in Utah has added jobs to build it and certainly to man it.) Is this just a jobs program?
The massaging of the truth via creative language is a huge problem in our government. We can´t get a straight answer from anyone because no one can even answer a simple yes or no question. It really is pathetic. They have sacrificed personal integrity for political ideology. When there is no right or wrong in your world and everything is predicated on situational ethics driven by your political beliefs, a moral compass becomes obsolete.
...one must uderstand that by giving him the question the day before, it gave him the oportunity to confer with one of the great leagal minds, AG Holder on how best to testify...
...this administation best exemplifies the old saying, "the fish rots from the head down". 0bama has been lying before even being elected. Should we expect anything less from those he surrounds himself with..?
Chief Spy ?? This fool couldn´t track an elephant in snow. The money question is who or what government agencies got access to the information collected ? IRS maybe? How about O´s campaign folks or one of the Soros backed outfits ?
FTA: "Last week, Clapper said his "no" meant that NSA analysts don´t read Americans´ emails. Some have noted that could explain his earlier answer because "collect" has a precise meaning in intelligence-gathering circles, and it´s along those lines."
What Clapper should have said is that NSA does not target Americans´ emails specifically. However, if they are targeting emails of, for example, terrorists, I suspect that if an American might be communicating with them, and the NSA analysts would be able to read those emails as well. Also, under FISA, anyone living in the U.S. is considered a "U.S. person", regardless of their citizenship status.
Back to the definition of "is", etc. Amazing how they can lie to the people responsible for oversight and pay no penalty or feel any shame. He was asked a direct question and should have given a direct answer. If he felt it was a security problem to discuss the program he should have declined to discuss it in s public forum.
It seems that all three branches of government no longer trust the American People; the Executive Branch (Obama and company), Congressional Leadership (except for Wyden, Paul and Cruz) and the courts (FISA court approved ths).
Remember how the Dem/Lefties attached the name of "Bush" to everything, in order to make the issue superlatively loathesome?
Well, from now on, we ought to do the same with this President. Ergo, It is "Obama´s Clapper", "Obama´s IRS", "Obama´s NSA spying machine", oh, and lest we forget, "Obama´s rotten economy" "Obama´s pathetic job creation" etc
This is because i think Rush has identified a key reason why BO seems separate from all the wreckageof his regime.
So, it´s "Obama´s DNI, Clapper" --he looked fidgety, nervous, sweaty he LOOKED like a liar. Was he doing this on purpose? Is he actually uncomfortable being Obama´s Clapper?
They all knew this was illegal and outside the Patriot Act and did it anyway.
This is exactly what is worng with being ruled by agencies and bureaucrats who´s self appointed job is to lord over us!
Like the IRS scandal...heads should LITERALLY ROLL! Contact the French for their guillitoin! No matter how old it will work fine! If the blade is a bit dull and we have to take a few hacks at it, better for the punishment!
You know, it´s becoming clearer and clearer to me why Supreme Court chief justice John Roberts switched sides on the ObamaCare ruling. The regime was determined to make ObamaCare the law of the land and using the regime´s governent snoops to persuade John Roberts to change his mind was probably in the mix. Intimidation, threats against his family, I put nothing past the regime. There must really be something to hide in Roberts´ closet...
Another thing I noticed during the last Presidential election. With the huge crowds Romney was drawing at every event, The Won never seemed concerned. Obama drew very small crowds in comparison but he never broke a sweat. It didn´t matter to him because he knew who was COUNTING the votes. Hmmmmmm.
No. 35 Regarding John Roberts, recently I heard something to the effect that perhaps what "they" have on him has to do with the circumstances of the adoption of his children. He married his wife when he was 41 and she about the same age, in 1996. Their 2 adopted kids, John and Josie were both born in 2000.
He also has a history of "seizures" one of which caused him to fall off a dock in Maine a few years ago. No cause for the seizure was determined.
He was a District Judge for only 2 years before being selected as Chief Justice.
I have been shocked, mortified, filled with disdain, disappointed, saddened, hopeful, hopeless, confused, sueprised, stunned, awed in a bad way, disgusted, ashamed and numbed by the actions and statements of our government.
Notice how it is more than the 5 stages of grief. Notice it is nothing positive. Notice how they seem almost intent on exhausting us to the point of saying, "I just can´t take anymore. I give up."
Still, I cannot throw up my hands and walk away, I love my country, apparently more than many of those employed to work for and protect her.
I am exhausted, yet, I have not seen nor heard of one protest or uprising about all of this. I thought about standing on my street corner, about being the first. But, only the cows would see me.

Before this claptrap - - the all-time best pretzel-speak was when Steffie Stephanopoulos said - - -
"The president has kept every promise he intended to keep."
As brilliant as most of us here are - - you really have to be a moonbat leftie to come up with stuff like that.
Cloward-Pivening America´s outrage capacity. Overwhelming the news with an avalanche of scandal. Flash mobbing the investigating committees. Sensory overload. Anger fatigue. Pounding America into insanity. Then denial. Then guilt. Then acceptance and resignation.
Watch people go through the stages. Marvel at the utterances of Peter King and Dana Perino. Watch conservatives cheer for the ACLU´s latest lawsuit. "Shaking the box." Cats sleeping with dogs (sorry - couldn´t resist). Listen to constitutionalists deny that there is a constitutional issue. Then wait for for the guilt - blaming the American people. And finally, acceptance of the devil´s bargain: trade freedom for security. And once freedom is gone, anything can be imposed, because all ability to resist has been traded away.
It is mass battered wife syndrome. And it is not an accident.
The scariest part to me is whether the software is keeping up with the data. You can bet that it´s full speed ahead on that front. When you combine everything that is collected... from Telephone call metadata, Email metadata, Google searches, Bank Account transactions, Credit Card transactions, Amazon purchases, Netflix rentals, Blog visits, Blog postings, PAC Contributions, ad infinitum, you have the makings of 1984 given the right analytical software. It would finally be possible to predict thought crimes or to anticipate "criminal" activity BEFORE the act. I´m sorry, but we are there. Orwell was just 29 years early.
Liberals are their own worst enemy. If they weren’t so afraid of being accused of “profiling”, they could intelligently focus their efforts. Instead of collecting a gazigabit of metadata on everyday hardworking American families, they could actually spy on (monitor phone and internet use of) potential terrorists, like devout Muslims who: a) were openly communicating with a radical jihadist imam – like Major Nidal Hasan, the Ft. Hood terrorist; or b) had been identified as a radical Islamist (by Russia, no less), been interviewed by the FBI, had traveled to an Islamist hot spot for 6 MONTHS, was posting pro-Islamist videos on social media, and had accessed articles on bomb-making on an online Al Qaeda magazine – like Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the Boston Marathon bombers
Clap Trap Clapper is the showroom model for the exemplary liar in chief, Slick Willie. You can´t blame the guy. He´s in a company of liars, they all lie, he´s protected by the lying Diane Sawyer media. Why not lie? Even his wife doesn´t care. Maybe one of his kids will write a "tell all" later. Clapper is the perfect disgusting public office holding person. Totally foul.
A top secret National Security Agency program allows analysts to search with no prior authorization through vast databases containing emails, online chats and the browsing histories of millions of individuals, according to documents provided by whistleblower Edward Snowden. The NSA boasts in training materials that the program, called XKeyscore, is its "widest-reaching" system for developing intelligence from the internet. (Snip)The files shed light on one of Snowden´s most controversial statements, made in his first video interview published by the Guardian on June 10.
Dream Defenders Executive Director Philip Agnew has said he knew the group would have to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable” during its now-13-day sit in at the Capitol. The college activists reached a new level of “uncomfortable” over the weekend – the group said Capitol police stopped food from coming into the building, leaving a group of about 50 protesters with little more than snack items and a few cups of water. Reports from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement indicate that´s not accurate.(Snip)phone calls to FDLE in support of the protest shut down the center’s ability
The Department of Justice civil rights unit sent to Sanford, Florida in 2012 to mediate the anti-George Zimmerman protests has a history of putting racial advocacy ahead of its mandated duties, according to a former head of the unit. “At CRS headquarters, we (meaning I) regularly had to warn or take corrective action against career employees for acting as advocates instead of mediators,” Ondray Harris, the former director of the DOJ’s Community Relations Service (CRS), told The Daily Caller. CRS was the unit deployed to Sanford in 2012 to oversee anti-Zimmerman protests.
The family of the ousted Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has accused the army of abducting him. In the charade that became the trial of George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin, and in the continuing aftermath of the verdict, there was one thing the American people didn’t get from much of the national broadcast media: fairness. In the hours of continuous coverage that I monitored and recorded, I couldn’t believe the lack of balance in coverage.(Snip)Some news organizations seemed to resist the temptation of balanced reporting from the onset. What happened to investigating stories thoroughly? What happened to balancing a report with all points of view? And what happened to keeping agendas and
George Zimmerman, who has not been seen publicly since being acquitted in the murder of Trayvon Martin earlier this month, surfaced last week to rescue an unidentified driver trapped in an overturned truck in Florida, police said Monday. Sanford Police Department Capt. Jim McAuliffe told Fox News that Zimmerman, 29, was identified by a crash victim as the man who pulled him from the mangled vehicle last week. “George Zimmerman pulled me out,” firefighters were told by the unidentified driver, according to McAuliffe.
I have to admit, I’m stumped. Either something fairly important happened yesterday in Washington, or as readers of The Dallas Morning News might say, “I have no idea what you mean.” News reports, mostly from the right-of-center media, would indicate a 50-year IRS employee, recently retired as a tax specialist, testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Carter Hull, we’re told, said the inappropriate screening of tea party-related applications reached at least the office of the IRS chief counsel, one of two political appointees in the building. You remember the IRS scandal, right?
The brother of Trayvon Martin, whose shooting death by George Zimmerman gained international attention over the past year, is currently serving as an intern for Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., her office confirmed to NBC News. A Florida jury found Zimmerman not guilty of of 2nd degree murder and manslaughter on July 13. Zimmerman says he shot the teen in self defense. Martin’s brother Jahvaris Fulton attends Florida International University in Miami, Fla., (Snip) According to Wilson´s office, Fulton is also part of the 5000 Roll Models of Excellence Project.
In 2005 the Florida legislator enacted statute 776.032. “Immunity from criminal prosecution and civil action for justifiable use of force.” This immunity statute is often erroneously referred to as Florida’s Stand-Your-Ground (SYG) law, even by lawyers, judges, and law professors who ought to know better.(Snip)In fact, SYG is a different statute entirely, 776.013(3). Although many states have adopted some form of self-defense immunity law, Florida’s is remarkably broad in many respects. It provides not only immunity from both civil liability and criminal prosecution, but even from arrest in instances that lack probable cause
In the aftermath of the acquittal of George Zimmerman, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton and Ben Jealous of the NAACP are calling on the black community to rise up in national protest. Yet they know — and Barack Obama, whose silence speaks volumes, knows — nothing is going to happen. "Stand-Your-Ground" laws in Florida and other states are not going to be repealed. George Zimmerman is not going to be prosecuted for a federal "hate crime" in the death of Trayvon Martin. The result of all this ginned-up rage that has produced vandalism and violence
President Barack Obama’s half-brother, Malik Obama, had a close relationship with Libyan dictator Muammar Gadhafi that continued from the 1980s until the dictator’s death. A photograph obtained by the Daily Caller shows Malik smiling with Gadhafi. Photos of Gadhafi from the time period appear to place the photo somewhere between 1987-1990, around the same time as the 1986 Berlin discotheque bombing and the Lockerbie bombing in 1988, for both of which Libya was responsible. Obama was a vocal supporter of the Libyan dictator and once interceded with his brother on Gadhafi’s behalf during the Libyan civil war,
WASHINGTON — White House Press Secretary Jay Carney dismissed a question Wednesday regarding the safety of George Zimmerman and his parents as “ridiculous.” Asked by The Daily Caller during the daily press briefing whether the president intends to take any action to protect the Zimmermans — in light of the many death threats the family has received — Carney laughed and said, “Well, I think I would refer you to Florida authorities. I’m not aware of that story. But, you know, the president has called for echoing the statements of Trayvon Martin’s family — for calm and reflection
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. His message is so stale and unconvincing, that even The New York Times and Washington Post have noticed. Both papers, usually loyal to Obama, remarked that
Gotta figure her lead would be even bigger without Joe Miller in the field here. Her nomination for the taking? Alaska should be a top tier pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans next year…but their top choice of a candidate is Sarah Palin. 36% of GOP primary voters in the state say they’d like Palin to be their standard bearer against Mark Begich to 26% for Mead Treadwell, 15% for Dan Sullivan, and 12% for Joe Miller.
Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Embattled Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner and an attorney in the Federal Election Commission’s general counsel’s office appear to have twice colluded to influence the record before the FEC’s vote in the case of a conservative non-profit organization, according to e-mails unearthed by the House Ways and Means Committee and obtained exclusively by National Review Online. The correspondence suggests the discrimination of conservative groups extended beyond the IRS and into the FEC, where an attorney from the agency’s enforcement division in at least one case sought and received tax information about the status of a conservative group,
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
Mideast: The sequester has "cost jobs," says President Obama, and "gutted investments in education and science and medical research." But somehow he´s earmarked $500 million for Hamas terrorists. Circumventing Congress and with no fanfare, President Obama last week issued an executive order enabling him to send an additional $500 million directly to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank — much of which you can bet will wind up going to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization. According to Obama, "it is important to the national security interests of the United States to waive the provisions of" Congress´ legislative restrictions "in
The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Florida’s Stand Your Ground law played a role in her son’s shooting death, but she wasn’t ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law. “The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder,” Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach. “I think we have to change these laws so people don’t get
