3 feet of snow in upstate NY
on Memorial weekend

Charlotte Observer, by Staff

A Memorial Day weekend storm has dropped three feet of snow on a New York ski mountain near the Vermont boarder. Whiteface Mountain spokesman Jon Lundin says 36 inches of white powder has blanketed the nearly 5,000-foot tall mountain in the Adirondacks. That has forced the Olympic Regional Development Authority to close Whiteface Veteran´s Memorial Highway on the backside of the mountain.

Global warming is a crock, but climate shift seems to be real, no matter whether man caused it or not. Right now people need to worry whether in ten years 3 feet of snow will fall on Memorial Day in Iowa, Kansas, Illinois and surrounding states. When corn production falls 90% and wheat close to that, the U.S. will enter a period of famine. Since a great deal of our corn and wheat is sent abroad, that famine will stretch around the world. At the moment this climate shift alone needs to be addressed, and who or what caused it can be debated later when corn and wheat are mainly grown in the deep South and hardier crops in the midwest.

There are indications that the earth is moving towards another ice age as part of age-old cycles of climate change. The very long-term trend is for steadily lower temperatures. The ideologues and political opportunists on the left, by using the global warming myth to gain more power are setting us all up for big, big problems, in more ways than one. Civilized countries should be using science to develop ways to simply cope with whatever climate changes occur rather than waste billions and billions of dollars trying to "stop global warming".

Folks, easy now on this ice age talk. Whether you know it or not making these types of statements based on local events over the last few years make you sound as nuts as the warming crowd. Stop for a second and think that in the last 40 years we´ve had several cold and warming trends.

Remember that we are talking global temperatures here, jet streams, ocean currents, sun spots, pole shifts, Cheney´s weather machine and not just what it feels like today or this week in the the upper midwest and east coast of the United States.

Agreed with #6. When I was a little shaver growing up in the early to mid-60´s here in my little corner of Pennsylvania, a blast of cold air blew in one day as my mother hung laundry on the clothesline in the back yard. It snowed furiously for several minutes...in the middle of July.

My point? Freaky stuff just happens sometimes.

House subpoenas Treasury Secretary
Jacob Lew for IRS documents
Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan    Original Article

House Republicans on Friday accused Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew of obstructing their investigation into the IRS’s targeting of tea party and conservative groups, and issued subpoenas for more agency documents. Oversight committee chairman Darrell Issa sent a scathing latter to Lew blasting him and Obama for dismissing the GOP’s claims about IRS targeting as a phony scandal, saying that Lew has attempted to thwart his investigation. (Snip) The IRS came under scrutiny when its auditor reported earlier this year that the agency had singled out groups with “tea party,” “patriot” or “9/12” in their names for special scrutiny when the groups applied for tax-exempt status. The IRS has acknowledged it asked inappropriate and intrusive questions of the conservative groups.

Emergency manager: Detroit defaulting

A team led by a state-appointed emergency manager said Friday that Detroit is defaulting on about $2.5 billion in unsecured debt and is asking creditors to take about 10 cents on the dollar of what the city owes them. Kevyn Orr spent two hours with about 180 bond insurers, pension trustees, union representatives and other creditors in a move to avoid what bankruptcy experts have said would be the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. Underfunded pension claims likely would get less than the 10 cents on the dollar.

The Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is pressuring public schools in this country to make special accommodations for Muslim students and to deny comparable accommodations for students of other faiths. For example, CAIR’s instructional material for teachers entitled “An Educator’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices” advises schools to permit Muslim students who wish to attend Friday congregational worship (known as Jum’ah) to “request a temporary release from school.” In California, the Islamists have already won in their efforts to get special treatment for Islam in the public schools.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer won a battle with state lawmakers this week, defying most other conservatives in her party to get a key component of President Obama’s Medicaid expansion through the Legislature. The Arizona Senate voted Thursday to approve the measure 18 to 11. That followed approval earlier this week by the state House of Representatives. The issue had inflamed passions and divided the Legislature for weeks. Things came to a head Tuesday when Brewer called lawmakers into the Capitol in Phoenix for a surprise special session.

Barack Obama owes his presidency in no small part to the power of rhetoric. It´s too bad he doesn´t appreciate the damage that loose talk can do to America´s tax system, even as exploding federal deficits make revenues more important than ever. At his Arizona State University commencement speech last Wednesday, Obama noted that ASU had refused to grant him an honorary degree, citing his lack of experience .. He then demonstrated ASU´s point by remarking, " President [Michael] Crowe and the Board of Regents will soon learn all about being audited by the IRS."

Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski, D-Fremont, said his bill, AB1401, would help California widen the pool of prospective jurors and help integrate immigrants into the community... Democratic lawmakers who voted for the bill said there is no correlation between being a citizen and a juror, and they noted that there is no citizenship requirement to be an attorney or a judge

Before getting to the speech itself, it’s worth noting a few things. When the Democrats passed and Barack Obama signed Obamacare, the majority opposed it. About 56%, in fact. A majority have consistently opposed that law ever since. Now, as if by magic, they have their number. Somehow. All along, the administration has touted false numbers of enrollees. All along, the administration has neglected to admit that Obamacare is

A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,

The former two-term governor of Florida speaks fluent Spanish, is a convert to Catholicism, and has high name recognition. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying “yes” to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison. Let’s face it, if Jeb Bush had the last name of Something Else he would have already run for president in 2008 or 2012. According to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll registered voters were asked if they would definitely NOT vote for Jeb Bush and 50 percent said they would not.
