Two of Britain´s most celebrated war memorials have been defaced, apparently with the word ´Islam´ scrawled across them and inscriptions scrubbed out with red paint. Police have confirmed they are investigating the vandalism of the RAF Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park and the Animals In War Memorial in Park Lane, both in central London. Pictures taken today show that the damage has now been covered over with plastic or white sheets. Scotland Yard said there have not been any arrests, so it not clear if it has been done by Muslim protesters or far-right groups attempting to stir-up hatred.
Comments: Whichever side is responsible for the vandalism it does mean tension is increased. Even my feisty old friend from the village where I was born is worried about going anywhere which, of course, is the intention.

When will the suicidal West wake up, recognize, confront, and defeat this vile political enemy, Islam. It is NOT a religion. It is a totalitarian political movement, seeking only one thing: world domination. With them, it is kill or be killed.
I am for the far right groups after all it might just be a Muslim protest as opposed to some mouth breathing, vacant eyed, Islam terrorist group with a 12 Th.. century mentality operating in a Pagan religion who kill their own children for dating the wrong guy, stone women who have been raped and slaughter soldiers who are citizens and protectors of the host country in which the Islamist miscreants are living. There is a certain Obama logic to the right wing hypothesis don´t you think?
I think that the terror religion just crossed the point of no reurn. The Brits will put up with just so much and then it is time to clean house. House to house. And the PM went on vacation this week? The new party there just picked up another 25% of the vote.
Cameron´s vacation parallels Obamas jetting off to Las Vegas fundraiser after Benghazi. Look for UKIP to take over with support of EDL and others. Muslims are 10 % of UK-still manageable. Time to shut down ALL Muslim Preachers of Hate an their websites and take them OFF THE DOLE! Deport them back to country of origin especially if they would face death penalty- they deserve it. Cameron is abdicating his responsibility to protect Brits in favor of the enemy within.
The defacing of these war memorials may symbolize the defacement of the sacrifices of generations of Tommies by allowing Islam to run amok to the point soldiers are butchered in the street and the murder celebrated. Someone could make the same statement here...and the anger will be directed at the messenger...the message simply not received. The West has lost its senses, from Stockholm to London to Boston...if we shelter in place and call the cops, the danger will pass.
#6, I fully agree with you. There is an old British saying: The British lose every battle but the last, or words to that effect.
Can´t put my finger on it but there´s just something about this particular incident that separates it from the other British terrorist atrocities, including the carnage of the 7/7 London bombing attacks. (See http://tinyurl.com/p6ohrja for a reminder.) People have simply had enough. It´s become obvious that Islam is no more a religion of peace than was the Aztec religion.
I wish I hadn´t used that comparison. You never know when the Aztecs, whose name derives from the mythical city of Aztlan, will rise again. . . .
#10, unfortunately I think that you are correct for the white peoplenin the big urban areas. In the smaller municipalities in certain parts of the country, however, there´s still plenty of fight remaining. In fact, I and a group of like-minded scientists and engineers will soon be bringing to market a close quarters capable. 45 ACP carbine that we have designed. I and many, many others have nonintention of submitting to anyone, foreign or domestic.
The U.S. Gross Domestic Product jumped by an annual rate of 3.6 percent in the third quarter of 2013, the U.S. Commerce Department said, surprising analysts who had forecasted a more modest 2.8 percent increase in the nation´s economic output. Commerce´s Bureau of Economic Affairs released its quarterly economic report on Thursday. Growth in the second quarter of the year was just 2.5 percent. That´s a dramatic improvement from the 0.12 percent growth during 2009, the first year of Barack Obama´s presidency. But it pales in comparison to the 7.71 percent average annual growth seen during the Reagan years.
The president and his supporters are pushing to get higher wages for American workers, but the nation´s largest pro-Obama organizing group is telling its footsoldiers not to expect a paycheck at all. Organizing For Action, which flexed its muscles as Obama For America during two presidential election campaigns, announced Wednesday that it´s seeking ´Spring Organizing Fellows´ to ´be a part of our growing organization´ and ´explor[e] OFA´s broad scope approach to issue advocacy.´ But unlike most fellowships, which offer a stipend or a housing allowance, the positions are strictly ´unpaid´ and require Americans to work ´without the expectation of pay,
An American chemistry teacher has been shot dead by gunmen in the Libyan city of Benghazi, security sources said on Thursday. The attackers shot a 33-year-old staff member of the Benghazi International School while he was out for a morning jog, sources said. He was originally from Texas. No one has claimed responsibility for the shooting. [Snip] The U.S. Department of State made no comment when contacted by MailOnline on Thursday. AFP reported that a 33-year-old man was shot dead in the central Al-Fwihet neighborhood of Benghazi. He was brought to Benghazi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead of
America´s National Security Agency is tracking mobile phones around the world, according to the latest leaks from whistleblower Edward Snowden. Almost five billion records a day are being gathered which allow intelligence officials to track individuals and map their relationships in ways previously unimaginable, the classified documents suggest. [Snip] The location data comes from tapping into cables connecting mobile phone networks around the world, it is said. Analysts are able to locate a mobile phone and then retrace the owner’s movements, exposing their connections to others, it is claimed. The NSA said that they do not intend to target the
The Home Secretary is to challenge her European counterparts to change the way free movement rules work across the region at a meeting in Brussels. Theresa May will tell justice and home affairs ministers of fellow European Union member states the UK is frustrated by the European Commission´s failure to tackle free movement abuse. Ahead of the meeting, Mrs May discussed measures to tackle this abuse such as applying a cap on numbers if European immigration reaches certain thresholds. Her comments come after David Cameron unveiled measures to deter immigrants from within the EU but also suggested in the future, labour movement
The US and China have had "very direct" talks about concerns over China´s new air defence identification zone, US Vice-President Joe Biden said. Speaking after meetings with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Mr Biden said the zone had caused "apprehension" in Asia. Talks in Mr Biden´s Asia trip have been dominated by a new air zone declared by China, which covers islands controlled by Japan in the East China Sea. China says its move is consistent with "international law and practice". China announced a new Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) last month, and said aircraft flying through the zone must follow
It is a story as heart-warming of one of their Christmas adverts. John Lewis has launched an appeal to find the five-year-old girl who wrote them a letter saying sorry for breaking a bauble. Known only as Faith, the girl sent a handwritten apology to her local store after she said she accidentally broke the decoration on a visit to the shop. Faith even attached two pound coins to the note, apologising for the damage she caused at the Cambridge branch of the department store. The letter arrived there after being posted to the ‘Christmas Department’ soon after her visit.
The most serious coastal tidal surge for 60 years was predicted today as 114mph winds battered Britain, 20,000 homes were left without power and meteorologists warned lives were at risk. Forecasters fear the worst is yet to come during tonight’s high tide at around 10pm as the strong winds and high volumes of water combine to form a ‘tidal surge’ towards the north east coast. Sea levels could be as high as those during the floods of 1953 that left 307 dead. A lorry driver died today and four other people were injured after an HGV was blown over in
Britain´s baby boomer generation is suffering the toll of decades of high-living, according to official figures which show alcohol-related hospital admissions among those in their 60s have tripled in a decade. The statistics show that among those aged 45 and above, the numbers admitted to hospital as a result of drinking have more than doubled in a decade. [Snip] The figures, from the Health and Social Care Information Centre, disclose a dramatic increase in liver disease and drunkenness among the middle aged over the last decade. Last night, liver experts said older generations were suffering “frightening” consequences of an era
Days after the killing of Drummer Lee Rigby this year, the Prime Minister established an Extremism Task Force to advise on how best to stop the spread of terrorist ideology. The recommendations contained in its report, published yesterday, were a mix of the familiar and the obvious, though none would appear to address the biggest problem of all--what to do about the hundreds of jihadists who have fought in Syria and who will be returning to the UK if they survive the conflict. The security agencies think that as many as 300 British passport holders have joined the array of
A memorial that pays tribute to the tens of thousands of brave men who lost their lives in bombing raids over wartime Germany has again been ranked by Trip Advisor as London´s top landmark in the run up to Christmas. The Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park has beaten the likes of Big Ben and Buckingham Palace to the number one spot on the travel review site. Visitors from all over the world come to pay their respects to the 55,573 young Bomber Command crews who lost their lives during the Second World War.
A top lawyer at the Internal Revenue Service told congressmen quizzing him over the tea party targeting scandal ´I don´t recall´ a ´staggering 80 times in fill or partial response to the committees questions´, a letter revealed today. [Snip] The stinging letter from House Oversight Committee chair Rep. Darrell Issa and regulatory subcommittee chair Rep. Jim Jordan, read: ´Your memory consistently failed when you were asked about information you shared with the Treasury Department´, adding his testimony ´suggests either a deliberate attempt to obfuscate your involvement in this matter or gross incompetence on your part.´
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a
The president put in his ask to Disney CEO Bob Iger at a private meeting with entertainment moguls during his Nov. 26 visit to Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation. [snip] If you have any doubt as to how much of a sports junkie Barack Obama is, check in with the entertainment moguls who attended a private briefing with the president Nov. 26 before his speech at Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation campus in Glendale. At the end of the conversation -- which touched on a myriad of topics, from piracy to Iran -- Obama revealed what´s at the top of his bucket
