A Crack in the IRS Dam
Power Line, by John Hinderaker

Original Article

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The Fifth Amendment is a protection
the Constitution provides for CITIZENS in their interactions with government.

The Fifth Amendment is not now and has never been a protection for corrupt government officials to avoid answering questions from other corrupt government officials...

Yes, well. Now and since Dear Leader breached his oath of office early in his first term. No legitimate American president would ever appoint communists to his administration and no legitimate employee would ever stand for it. They have been out to silence opposition from day 1, and the only question was how. Exploiting and colluding with a corrupt "press corps" to cover-up misdeeds is not a crime? Obama´s dam was always cracked.

Lois Lerner is an America-hating lunatic who bears all the hallmarks of a totalitarian Communist. She was demanding answers about the content of PRAYERS? She was suggesting that prayer is an impermissable political activity? Where was this piece of excrement raised, in the Soviet Union?

Lois Lerner needs to go to PRISON.

What is really scary is that Lois Lerner has been working for the government since before 1986. A Weekly Standard article by Mark Hemingway notes that it was in 1986 that she was made head of the Enforcement Office at the Federal Election Commission (FEC). It was her division that went after the Christian Coalition. I wonder what her background is - somebody noted that her husband is part of a big law firm. Is she a lawyer? For sure she is a wanna be communist.

Nixon may have had his plumbers, but Obama will be remembered for his termites. He´s like the queen termite infesting every nook and cranny of our government with leftist termites gnawing away at the very foundations of our country. We´re going to need a top to bottom Terminix treatment to rid us of this infestation after he´s gone.

Her strategy of taking the 5th is not a sound one.
The House Committee can give her full immunity and then insist that she testify or be held in contempt of Congress.
And if she is later found to have been less than truthful, Congress can rescind her immunity and charge her with the crimes she committed/aided as well as perjury.

Of course, Congress has th have the bells to do this.
She would have been better off to use the Hillary Defense Strategy--"I don´t recall..I can´t remember...Not that I can remember"

A conservative resurgence would be so easy in light of these scandals and our new found energy independence. The agenda should be:

1. Toss out the current tax code and simplify the process to eliminate the need for the IRS.
2. Repeal Obamacare
3. Drill baby drill. We are awash in oil and natural gas to the point that we can become energy independent and drive down the price of energy for everyone. Once this is achieved we can change our entire foreign policy towards the Middle East.
4. Reduce the size and scope of government in general because of widespread corruption.

We would have an economic explosion from this simple agenda.

This all goes back to one thing - stealing the election. At the same time that democrats were squealing about voter disenfranchisement due to photo IDs, they were systematically denying millions upon millions of conservatives their right to be part of the political process.

It´s a tragedy that there is no constitutional authority for declaring an election null and void. In a sane and just world, we would be throwing zippy and bite-me under the prison at Levenworth and inaugurating President Romney.

Just as the aftermath of 9/11/01 was the perfect time to seal the borders and disallow student visas for "students" from islamist nations, this is the perfect time to push for elimination of the IRS and for the institution of a flat or fair tax. But if 3,000 murdered Americans was not enough to move Congress to protect our citizens from terrorists, I guess there will not be any effort to protect us from government intimidators and criminals undermining our system of law.

She´s an employee of the federal government who is taking the 5th on answering questions on how she performed her official government job, really??? There´s a few conservatives who work for the federal government (and suffer in silence), but the overwhelming mass of federal workers are demcorats and for many of them in the DC area would be lucky to have a job as a greeter at a local Walmart (if they lived anywhere else) but that they have access to the bulk of the federal buraucracy right here. For many, it´s the ultimate in welfare - good paying federal jobs requiring little to no skills and if you are a peson of color - even better - no one messes with you regardless of your incompetence.

One last point - "funny" how the survivors of the Benghazi attack are being threatened not to speak out and yet, Ms. Lerner, doesn´t want to speak out...

Yeah - the most open and transparent Administration ever hahahaha

First she rides roughshod over the constitutional limitations imposed on government, and then she wraps herself in the Constitution for self-protection.

It´s time to explain to her that because it´s a living Constitution, taking the fifth now means confessing to a crime.

It is safe to assume that Lois Lerner´s attorney has carefully reviewed the federal laws discussed in the following article:

http://blog.heritage.org/2013/05/15/irs-gate-the-potential-criminal-implications/

P.S. Is Lerner paying for her own attorney or are we, the taxpayers, footing that bill? Just wondering.

Watching the hearing on Fox: Lerner was just dismissed by Issa. Lerner made a fully self-serving opening statement, then took the Fifth. Said she would answer ANY questions. Gowdy was enraged and demanded that she had waived the Fifth by making an opening statement. Issa tried to get her to agree to certain questions; she refused and he dismissed her again. WOW! Now it will probably move into a Courtroom.

What I want to know and so far no one has asked of any of the IRS senioir leadeship is: did anyone at any level from GS-5 to an SES say: Whoa, wait a minute - you (whovever that might be) want me/us to single out these specific groups? Why? Who´s telling you? this doesn´t look right.

Lerner is not a citizen. She´s a government employee acting as a suspicious mafia thug.
She takes the fifth on the advice of her
CRIMINAL LAWYER. Talk about criminal chutzpah. And good old soft pedal Issa did not ask her a dozen questions to force her to take the fifth a bunch of times, like in any good crime movie. Taking the fifth ten or more times at least gives us drama that can be replayed over and over again to show her protected status to all of America. She is a disgrace and Issa let her off the hook
in what will be remembered by lo-fo´s as a non event. No drama. Where was Joe McCarthy
when we needed him? Where was an Ike or a Ronnie when we needed a real American? In our government, it looks like the commie bad
guys have the strength, and the good Issa guys are absolutely not strong, not clearly
forceful representing all lawful citizens.

There is an article on Drudge today that traces the dots back from Cincinnatti to Washington. All six of the so called culprit IRS agents in Cincinnatti have a different supervisor. There are rules about how much time they have to work on a case. Some of these Tea Party cases are three years old. By law the IRS agents had to report several times and red flags would be flying. The one common link between these agents is a supervisor in Washington named Cindy Thomas.

It came out today that the IRS commissioner went around the chain of command and went to the White House on 118 occasions. Three times he met with Obama but couldn´t remember what exactly they talked about. It was funny but he had trouble remembering much about any of the other visits as well. Darrel Issa has got to be thinking if Lois Lerner´s testimony will be valuable at all when and if she testifies.

She obviously gave up her fifth amendment rights with her proclamation of innocence with no chance to cross examine.

This could go all the way to the Supreme Court with a couple of split decisions.

Obama will either be out of office or in jail by that time.

This crack in the IRS dam will take more than a finger in the d!ke to stop this leak.

In the next few days, the Senate will begin debate on the reauthorization of a child-care development block-grant program — a small, relatively noncontroversial program that is likely to pass. Peter Beilenson dreamed of bright, affordable health-care centers in working-class neighborhoods, staffed with doctors paid a flat salary — rather than per patient — and lifestyle coaches encouraging healthier living. Tiny waiting rooms would reinforce the message that all patients would be seen quickly. A human would always answer the phone. Specialists could immediately be consulted by videoconference. And there would be free yoga. Such common-sense approaches, Beilenson believes, will eventually drive down health-care costs. Buried in President Obama’s newly enacted Affordable Care Act, he found a way to test that theory. But because of hard-to-resolve problems with Maryland’s new

Many of the headlines after day two of the Conservative Political Action Conference were about Rick Perry’s well-received speech, in which he harped on what he deemed the “two Americas”: red-state America and blue-state America. But as much as the Texas governor’s morning address impressed the crowd, it was the second event in which he participated Friday that will be far more important if the Republican Party is serious about winning more swing voters in 2016. Perry appeared alongside several other conservatives, including Grover Norquist, on a panel about criminal justice reform and how those reforms are being pushed by

At CPAC, a Grand Old Free-for-all

Paul Ryan, addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference this week, disputed the notion that “the Republican Party is in this big, massive civil war.” “I don’t see this great divide in our party,” the GOP’s 2012 vice presidential nominee said. Ryan had a point. The notion of “civil war,” often used to describe the clash between the Republican establishment and the tea party, implies a conflict with identifiable sides. In reality, the GOP condition is more of a free-for-all. The annual CPAC gathering, conservatism’s trade show, provides a snapshot of the anarchy: The group’s much-celebrated straw poll of presidential candidates

BEIRUT — Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is taking advantage of the rift between Russia and the United States over Ukraine to press ahead with plans to crush the rebellion against his rule and secure his reelection for another seven-year term, unencumbered by pressure to compromise with his opponents. The collapse last month of peace talks in Geneva, jointly sponsored by Russia and the United States, had already eroded the slim prospects that a negotiated settlement to the Syrian war might be possible. With backers of the peace process now at odds over the outcome of the popular uprising in Ukraine,

Vladimir Putin is a lucky man. And he’s got three more years of luck to come. He takes Crimea, and President Obama says it’s not in Russia’s interest, not even strategically clever. Indeed, it’s a sign of weakness. Really? Crimea belonged to Moscow for 200 years. Russia annexed it 20 years before Jefferson acquired Louisiana. Lost it in the humiliation of the 1990s. Putin got it back in about three days without firing a shot. Now Russia looms over the rest of eastern and southern Ukraine. Putin can take that anytime he wants — if he wants. He has already

Whenever President Obama has sought to turn up pressure on Republicans on issues important to Latinos, he has found reliable partners in Spanish-language TV networks Univision and Telemundo. On Thursday, Obama came calling again — but this time, his partners became adversaries. Obama was appearing at a town hall-style event at the Newseum to encourage the Latino community to sign up for health-insurance policies under the Affordable Care Act. But the hosts, Jose Diaz-Balart of Telemundo and Enrique Acevedo of Univision, turned their sights on another issue: immigration. “Your reputation has been tarnished among Latinos over deportations,” Acevedo said, referring

With less than a month left for Americans to enroll in insurance plans under President Obama’s health care overhaul, companies like H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt Tax Service may be the administration’s secret weapon in getting people to sign up. Tax experts are leveraging their busy season ahead of the mid-April filing deadline to advise customers about government-subsidized health plans that are available through the end of March under Obamacare. They’re also providing a suite of online services and call centers to make it easier to sign up for plans under the Affordable Care Act. “We’ve been saying for a

Republicans circled around Rep. Darrell Issa Thursday, rejecting a Democratic effort to censure the House’s top investigator after he cut off the microphone of the top Democrat on the oversight committee Wednesday during a heated hearing. GOP lawmakers defeated a resolution chastising Mr. Issa, and House Speaker John A. Boehner gave Mr. Issa qualified backing, saying the congressman was within his rights to end Wednesday’s hearing after former IRS employee Lois G. Lerner refused to answer questions about the tax agency’s tea party targeting. The vote was 211-186 to table the resolution, effectively killing it. Ten lawmakers voted “present.” “From

President Obama urged Russia on Tuesday to stop “meddling” in Ukraine and withdraw its troops from Crimea, but a defiant Russian President Vladimir Putin said sanctions threatened by the West won’t prevent him from defending his country’s interests with its troubled neighbor. As the crisis persisted, Mr. Obama overshadowed his own budget rollout to accuse Mr. Putin of concocting a pretext to invade the Crimean peninsula in southern Ukraine. Secretary of State John F. Kerry, who met with top Ukrainian officials on a visit to Kiev, insisted that Russia is violating international law. “President Putin seems to have a different

Is Mitt Romney getting the band back together? The 2012 Republican presidential nominee has invited his debate prep advisers and senior campaign aides to his mountaintop chalet in Park City, Utah, for a weekend of skiing later this month, according to two people close to Romney. The reunion of Romney´s political brain trust comes amid a burst of positive buzz about the former Massachusetts governor -- from favorable reviews of "MITT," the Netflix documentary about his campaigns, to chatter among some powerful GOP donors about another Romney presidential campaign in 2016.

The 300,000-member union that was the first to endorse then-Senator Barack Obama has released a devastating Obamacare report that says Obama´s controversial healthcare program will slash worker wages by up to $5 an hour, reduce worker hours, and exacerbate income inequality. The report by Unite Here--a North American labor union that represents workers in the hotel, gaming, food service, manufacturing, textile, distribution, laundry, and airport industries--is titled: "The Irony of ObamaCare: Making Inequality Worse." "Ironically, the Administration´s own signature healthcare victory poses one of the most immediate challenges to redressing inequality," states the 12-page report. "We take seriously the promise

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.—Rand Paul handily won the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday, one gauge of the Republican base’s mood less than two years before the 2016 primary season kicks off. The Kentucky senator received 31 percent, far ahead of second place Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who received 11 percent. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson finished third with 9 percent, ahead of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who received 8 percent. The announcement came at the end of the group’s annual three-day confab. Organizers said that 2,459 attendees voted on computer kiosks.

The annual D.C. roast is hosted by the exclusive Gridiron Club, which is composed of D.C.´s mainstream and "elite" journalists. Cruz has degrees from Princeton and Harvard, which those in the permanent political class covet, and he can do their social rituals better than they can. Virgin CEO Richard Branson said that those who are skeptical of man-made global warming should “get out of our way,” joining the ranks of CEOs lashing out against those opposed to business investments in “sustainability.” Branson made his remarks in the wake of Apple CEO Tim Cook’s telling global warming skeptics to “get out of this stock” if they did not agree with the company’s green investment strategy. Cook made his comments after being confronted by a free-market activist who pressed him on putting the environment ahead of profitable investments. “If you want me to do things only for [return on investment] reasons,

The most dangerous parts of a flight are takeoff and landing. Rarely do incidents happen when a plane is cruising seven miles above the earth. So the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jet well into its flight Saturday morning over the South China Sea has led aviation experts to assume that whatever happened was quick and left the pilots no time to place a distress call. (Snip) The problem had to be big enough, he said, to stop the plane´s transponder from broadcasting its location, although the transponder can be purposely shut off from the cockpit.

CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson has reached an agreement to resign from CBS News ahead of contract, bringing an end to months of hard-fought negotiations, sources familiar with her departure told POLITICO on Monday. Attkisson, who has been with CBS News for two decades, had grown frustrated with what she saw as the network´s liberal bias, an outsized influence by the network´s corporate partners and a lack of dedication to investigative reporting, several sources said. She increasingly felt like her work was no longer supported and that it was a struggle to get her reporting on air.

“I told you so.” Those have to be four of the most satisfying words in the English language. And Mitt Romney has earned the right to speak that short sentence, over and over again, whenever he chooses. Not that he would — it would be “unbecoming,” to use one of Romney’s old-fashioned words that in 2002 had the mandarins of Political Correctness harrumphing about his “sexism,” I believe the charge was that time. But these days, Mitt looks more and more prescient, and his critics ever more deluded. First of all, Russia has become “our number one geopolitical foe,” as he put it
