Atkins: Facing uphill battle
over prez legacy

Boston Herald, by Kimberly Atkins

Original Article

Posted By:John c, 5/13/2013 3:54:01 PM

WASHINGTON — In one way, President Obama’s young age is a liability: He’ll likely live long enough to see how poorly history judges his presidency. It’s legacy-building time at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, and things aren’t looking good for 44. Though folks in the White House are quick to blame Republicans for ensuring that Obama’s place in future presidential rankings falls somewhere near Jimmy Carter’s, other people — including some Democrats in Washington — say the fault lies in large part with the president himself.

Carter was just incompetent.

Øvomit is incompetent and pure evil.

The only thing that could ever make Carter look even remotely competent was the massive disaster that 2 terms of Øvomit has been.

Naftogaz warns 11 oblasts of gas
cuts over unpaid $3 billion bill
Kyiv Post, by Mark Rachkevych    Original Article

(Ukraine) Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state-owned oil and gas monopoly, has threatened 11 oblasts with gas supply cuts for falling drastically behind on their bills totaling some $3 billion, which, coincidentally, is the rough equivalent of what Russia’s Gazprom said Ukraine owed it. Naftogaz said on Feb. 13 it will imminently reduce gas deliveries to a “technical minimum.” Company spokesperson Olena Yurieva said that means enough will be given for pipes to not freeze. Energy experts disagreed on how much room temperatures will drop as a result. Oleksandr Todiychuk, head of international energy club Q-club, told Kommersant that temperatures could drop to

(Kyiv, Ukraine) Open warfare broke out on the streets of Kyiv today, with at least 22 persons reportedly killed and more than 1,000 people injured. It was a day of non-stop bloodletting, smoke, fire and screeching ambulances. The death toll was likely to rise as police went on the offensive after sundown, advancing on thousands of protesters on Independence Square at 8 p.m. with gunshots, a water cannon and an armored personnel carrier. Tents housing protesters were burning on the main square, a fire fueled by protesters with tires as a defense against police attacks.

(Israel) The Australian Woodside Petroleum company signed a $2.5 billion deal to enter the Leviathan gas field in offshore Israel. The owners of Leviathan were in Australia this week to try to finalize a year-old non-binding deal, worth up to $2.3 billion, The Australian daily reported. Woodside will pay more than it had originally offered to enter the gas field because its owners want to pipe much of the gas to Turkey and other regional countries. Pipeline exports to Turkey require less development spending, which would increase the value of the gasfield.

Common Core, Common Core, Common Core -- it´s all I hear these days, as if it were a new monster at the door of the schoolhouse, as if it had never occurred to anyone that we were losing control of our children´s education, as if no one had ever before noticed that school texts were full of propaganda. Of course it´s a dangerous thing to let the federal T-rex into the classroom -- I´m not debating that -- of course no good can come of it; no good has come of it. (Remember No Child Left Behind?) DCF handbook shocker: Criminal past

Prospective foster parents with rap sheets listing criminal convictions for armed assault, drug trafficking, motor vehicle homicide and even soliciting sex from a minor could be cleared to take at-risk children into their homes under a standing policy at the state’s embattled child welfare agency. The stunning rules, tucked inside the Department of Children and Families’ handbook on criminal record checks and updated six years ago, allow foster parents with checkered pasts to take charge of endangered kids in the agency’s care. Among the crimes DCF policy might forgive would-be foster parents after screening their applications: • Offenses such as inducing sex from

Alaska adopts new rules for

JUNEAU, ALASKA — State regulations take effect next month further defining what constitutes a "medically necessary" abortion for purposes of receiving Medicaid funding. Notice was sent to the state health department Tuesday that the regulations had been filed by Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell last week. The new rules, blasted by critics as unconstitutional and an unnecessary government intrusion, are scheduled to take effect Feb. 2. The new certificate to request Medicaid funds features two boxes. Under the first, a provider would have to certify the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest or the abortion was performed to save

AUGUSTA, Maine — Using existing resources within the Department of Health and Human Services, Gov. Paul LePage will launch an investigation into potential fraud of EBT cards. Speaking to State House reporters on Thursday, LePage said that initial conversations with DHHS officials and law enforcement have shown him the problem is “far bigger than I would ever, ever have imagined.” He said early indications reveal fraud that would be measured “not in the thousands” but in seven digits.

PRAGUE - Czech investigators found unregistered weapons at the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Prague, police said on Thursday, a day after the ambassador was killed in a mysterious explosion after opening a safe. "We have gathered many pieces of evidence, we secured weapons that will be subject to expert evaluation," Prague police chief Martin Vondrasek said on Czech Radio. "We can say the weapons have not gone through a registration process in the Czech Republic," he said, without revealing the quantity and type. Police reiterated their belief that the blast on New Year´s Day may have been caused by mishandling an explosive that

It was November 12th. His wife was on the phone and she was reading an email that she had just received from her boss at Sallie Zetterower Elementary School in Statesboro, Ga. “As of today, if you have a Bible verse on your school email and/or Bible verse posted in the classroom, please remove it immediately,” the email read. But it was the next part of the email that made Mr. Cook tremble. “If a student-led prayer is initiated, you must remove yourself and step away from the group,” the email read. Mr. Cook told me in a telephone interview that he was dumbfounded. “They have to physically turn their back

(Anchorage) In the three weeks since the U.S. Indian Law & Order Commission chastised Alaska for opposing Natives who want their own village cops and courts, chairman Troy Eid says he´s been called a radical and an outsider who shouldn´t be sticking his nose where it doesn´t belong. Eid swept aside such criticism Wednesday when the commission officially presented its report in Anchorage. He declared that Alaska "was on the wrong track" and that public safety and security were so bad in rural Alaska, especially for women and children, that it had become a national disgrace. Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as

For as long as anyone can remember, teachers at Brooklet Elementary School have posted Christmas cards in the hallways outside their classrooms – until Monday. When boys and girls returned from Thanksgiving break, they discovered that their teachers’ Christmas cards had been removed – under orders from the Georgia school’s administration. Robb Kicklighter’s wife is a third grade teacher at the school. He said many teachers are disgruntled by the school’s decision to confiscate the Christmas cards. “They took down the cards so the kids can’t see them,” he told me. “Some of the cards had the word ‘Christmas’ and

"There is a core of outlets that are pushing these stories out. Breitbart clutters the blogosphere with ´Alec Baldwin, he’s the Devil, he’s Fidel Baldwin,´" Baldwin claimed. Former Vice President Dick Cheney responded Monday night to the Obama administration’s proposal to cut the U.S. Army to its lowest point since before World War II. Calling into Fox News’ “Hannity,” Cheney declared the proposed cuts to be “absolutely dangerous” and “just devastating.” “I have not been a strong supporter of Barack Obama. But this really is over the top. It does enormous long-term damage to our military,” Cheney said. ”They act as though it is like highway spending and you can turn it on and off. The Hollywood legend – who has made her career in an industry which isn´t exactly kind to aging actresses - admits she has been brought to tears on more than one occasion recently as she comes to terms with her own mortality. In a thoughtful blog post entitled ´Crying´, which has since been removed, Jane wrote: ´[I´ve been thinking], how come my tears are so close to the surface? The Obama administration warned Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday not to react too aggressively to the fast-moving developments in Ukraine, where pro-Western demonstrators forced the nation’s Moscow-backed president from power over the weekend. National Security Adviser Susan E. Rice said the situation unfolding in Kiev “reflects the will of the Ukrainian people and the interests of the United States and Europe,” and that Russia would be making a “grave mistake” if it sends in military forces to try to reverse the developments — or to seize control of pro-Moscow eastern Ukraine. The Putin government has shown no outward signs

It has the makings of a royal mess for “King Barack.” Monday morning’s Supreme Court argument about the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to regulate greenhouse gases went badly for the Obama administration — so much so that the real question before the justices seemed to be how severe the EPA’s loss would be. The administration’s solicitor general, Donald Verrilli, pleaded with the justices to recognize the “urgent problem” of climate change, because the “threat to future generations gets worse” with each passing year. But as the argument played out, the court’s swing justice, Anthony Kennedy, made clear that he

The former Massachusetts governor tweeted at Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R), saying it “is right” to veto the bill passed by the state legislature last week. Brewer has not said whether she will sign or veto the measure. However, a number of media outlets have reported people close to her expect her to veto it. Her name is Sandra Korn. She is a senior at Harvard and columnist for the Harvard Crimson. In a recent column, Korn unambiguously insisted that the university should stop guaranteeing professors and students the right to hold controversial views and pursue research that challenges liberalism. “If our university community opposes racism, sexism, and heterosexism, why

Were he alive today, Richard Nixon would have to doff his hat to Barack Obama. Compared with how the Obama administration has swept under the rug the Benghazi attacks of September 11, 2012, Nixon’s attempt to cover up the Watergate burglary was rank amateurism. To be fair, Nixon’s team of Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell, and Dean were not in the same league as Obama’s, which includes not only his cabinet but most of the national media and much of Congress. If a president were intent on covering something up—something big, such as an illegal gun walking operation to Mexico or a dereliction
