Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee: Constitution

Washington Times, by Douglas Ernst

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee took to the House floor Monday night and implied that the right to health care and education exists in the Constitution. Ms. Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, also made the case that the moral authority for such services is also derived from the Declaration of Independence. “One might argue that education and health care fall into those provisions of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” she said. Ms. Jackson Lee added, “I think that what should be continuously emphasized is the president’s leadership on one single point: that although health care was not

Therein lies the problem: it´s not what SJL or even the SCOTUS thinks that the Constitution implies - it´s what the Constitution says. It´s a contract.

Calling her a stupid cow is an insult to cows who are by nature pretty stupid. However, since I grew up on a farm I could say what spews out of her mouth pretty much resembles what spews out underneath the tail of a cow. For those who are more urban, cows don´t poo very delicately.

No one has a right to anything that costs someone money, no one has a right to anyone else´s labor.

Poster #2 reminds me of when I worked in a bank, and trying to explain to a tweaker that having blank checks in her checkbook did not "imply" she could write bad checks to the grocery store. She whined, "But I have to eat!" I said, "Yes, and so do the grocer´s children, writing bad checks to him, takes away the money to feed his children."

Someone has to pay the doctors and teachers (and for their education) someone has to pay for the building where they work. Health care and education is never "free," so they can not be considered "rights."

Need we say more about giving credibility to anything she says:

"The Hill reported in 1997 that Jackson Lee had asked NASA officials whether the Mars Pathfinder photographed the U.S. flag that Neil Armstrong had planted on Mars. When this incident was reported, her chief of staff wrote a letter to the editor suggesting that she was targeted because she was black."

Miz Jackson, the Constitution says you are entitled to pursue happiness but it does not say it will be handed to you...it says you can pursue it...that means you can chase it and allows you to catch it...it says pursue, like it´s OK to search for jobs, a better education, to work harder, etc...it does not say you are entitled to get ANYTHING for free...tell your constituents that work is good, work is acceptable and to try to get a job. Nobody will fault you for that, quit lying to them, nothing comes from nothing...If free health care was so great then why are the politicians trying to exempt themselves so badly? Get real woman!

The Constitution guarantees the right to life, liberty and property. The Bill of Rights spells out the rights in more specificity. I don´t see any mention--express or implied--of a right to health care or education in there.

Washington -- With the White House asserting that Russia is stoking instability in eastern Ukraine, President Barack Obama is once again faced with the complicated reality of following through on his tough warnings against overseas provocations. Obama has vowed repeatedly to enact biting sanctions against Russia´s vital economic sectors if the Kremlin tries to replicate its actions in Crimea, the peninsula it annexed from Ukraine, elsewhere in the former Soviet republic. Despite those warnings, Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to be testing Obama´s limits, instigating protests in eastern Ukraine, the White House says, and massing tens of thousands of troops on

By the end of this year, it’s estimated that 300 physicians will commit suicide. While depression amongst physicians is not new—a few years back, it was named the second-most suicidal occupation—the level of sheer unhappiness amongst physicians is on the rise. Simply put, being a doctor has become a miserable and humiliating undertaking. Indeed, many doctors feel that America has declared war on physicians—and both physicians and patients are the losers. Not surprisingly, many doctors want out. Medical students opt for high-paying specialties so they can retire as quickly as possible. Physician MBA programs—that promise doctors a way into management—are flourishing. The

Federal officials appear to be waiting out Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and his supporters. Two days after a dispute over grazing rights, cattle and $1 million in fees and fines threatened to spin into a Wild West shootout, officials with the Bureau of Land Management promised they weren’t finished with Bundy. “The BLM will continue to work to resolve the matter administratively and judicially,” BLM Director Neil Kornze said in a statement that followed the Bureau’s decision to release nearly 400 head of Bundy’s cattle that had been seized as part of a fight over grazing fees. Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

President Obama pulled a surprise move Monday at the White House’s Easter Prayer Breakfast when he selected Gene Robinson to lead the closing prayer. Robinson is famously known as the first openly gay Episcopal bishop.
