No Bully in the Pulpit
New York Times, by Maureen Dowd

Original Article

Posted By:toledo, 4/22/2013 6:58:12 AM

THE graying man flashing fury in the Rose Garden on behalf of the Newtown families, the grieving man wiping away tears after speaking at the Boston memorial service, is not the same man who glided into office four years ago. President Obama has watched the blood-dimmed tide drowning the ceremony of innocence, as Yeats wrote, and he has learned how to emotionally connect with Americans in searing moments, as he did from the White House late Friday night after the second bombing suspect was apprehended in Boston.

He isn´t connecting with anyone. He spoke only because that is what was expected of him. I doubt he´ll give any of the victims a second thought. Ask any member of the families of the Bengazi victims.

#7, that was a low blow [so to speak]! You know old MoDo is STILL carrying a torch for Michael Douglas from that crack-smokin´-Sorkin-concocted "American President" movie, where he gives an impassioned speech at the end about ´going house to house and getting all the guns´ away from law-abiding people.

When I hear/see our Ear Leader, I think of old Gertrude Stein describing Oakland, California.

Sorry Maureen, Americans are protected from heavy handed soviet style Diktats by Article I section 9 Of The U.S.Constitution:

"An act of legislation declaring a person or persons guilty of some crime and punishing them without priilege of a judicial trial."

We know where this is going, Modo. And each lineand section of the bill is blocked.

Call your Constitutional Convention, democrats. see how that turns out.

Dowd has it exactly opposite, Obama angrily lectured us after the bombing about not rushing to judgment. He said the guys did this after a long experience in America, that we should not connect them with any particular group, that we will be tempted to be divisive, but we must guard against it. Again, he didn´t use the word terror or terrorism.

Actually, Maureen, that´s not how most adults respond to things--which is why the hysteria about gun control didn´t sell in the heartland (and why there´s no way in hell there was a 90% approval...).

The Occupier of The Oval Office is a hollow man in an empty suit. He cares only for the image reflected in the mirror. He has enjoyed the adulation of his minions since he was a boy. He has risen to such heights because enough Americans we´re shallow enough to fall for the image. Who he is was out there for all to see. Enough of us were blinded by the image, the idea of this man. Dear Ms. Dowd,

As i recall you have been writing for the NYT since Ronald Reagan´s first term. In that time your writing style has not exhibited any significant development or maturity. And that madam is a sad state of affairs. In your 20´s you could wield the persona of a snarky school girl with great depth and effectiveness. Now in your extremely late 40´s (perhaps the second decade of your 40´s) it is simply pathetic.

If you want to revive you relevance, grab your laptop, hop in the car and head west of the Hudson. You can take a week to detox in the eastern Time zone, but you need to spend at least two months in the heartland. You are not allowed to stay in any city with service fro a major airline. You need to talk little, listen much, and observe everything. You may just find that those rubes are quite good at running their own lives without central government intervention. When you are done in three months you may find your writing style refreshed, and your political accumen expanded.

Or you may just determine that you can´t teach new tricks to an old dog. But, give it a try. What have you got to lose?

The liberals have this completely wrong. There has never been, nor will there ever be, 90% approval in this country for gun control. I don´t know who came up with this ridiculous poll result nor do I care. It is wrong. The NRA´s strengh comes from its members. If 90% of these Senators constituents were clamoring for more government control they would be falling all over each other to provide it. The bill does not have public support and politicians care way more about being re-elected then being invited to the next WH social event.

Is this called a meme? Is this one of those things that if they repeat it often enough it will become true? If there were 90% on his side, wouldn´t that mean that 9 out of 10 people I know were on his side? Funny, I know not a soul who is anywhere near his side any issue, particularly gun control.

Hey, Lucianne, you put this article for comments so we get livid?
Each and every issue laid out in this article makes my blood boil. I think we know obozo, know about some of his puppeteers, and of course, we know the leftist media. We don´t need to be reminded this way.
I´d rather talk about nyslimes article about Koch brother thinking about buying some newspapers. I was commenting on this for 10 years or so. It is not that repubics are weak or stupid (which on some ideas they definitely are). It is about political fight that is going on in this country and in this fight conservatives don´t have any means of propaganda and, let´s be honest, analysis. Media, education and entertainment is totally controlled by leftist radicals (call them commies or fascists). And this is not because the people who work there have the leftist position, it is they have to look like that if they want to work!
I am right about it, and the proof is the Eastern Communist block. As soon as the shackles of communism (what a joke this word) have fallen, the same people, majority of them, quit the commie party and revealed their true position, which was far from communist!

Perhaps if we knew something about hoop mans history, then we could sort out what and who he is. Of course, since every avenue of his history is blocked from public view, then we are left with nothing. He is the photo shopped President who has voted ´present´ on every controversial bill or question that he encounters. An empty suit.

I liked you better Dowdy when you wore your hair like old time movie star Veronica Lake, with your hair long and hiding one eye. Why is it not happening? The commies, again, tip our collective hat to this, usurped all the media, education and entertainment. Now they are on the path of usurping the social media! And what are we, conservatives, doing? Harping about dowd? Why do we pay attention to her at all? Agree, Maureen, that he does not know how to govern. But neither does he ´´emotionally connect´´ with broad swaths of the American people. He uses language to manipulate, not to inspire. He is the master of the straw man and all the other tools of the propagandist art. He gives academic, bloodless speeches about this country and events as if commenting on a cousin who was a screw-up in the past and clueless in the present. He can turn on teeth-laden smile or a catch in the throat as if by a light switch, and no doubt turns on the water works he needs like the actor he is.

I don´t believe he has a sincere or guileless bone in his body.

Media and particularly cable news has never been as polarized as it is today. It’s also never been tilted more towards opinion and less toward objective reporting of hard news. As a result, trust in media has fallen to an all-time low. Reporters in particular are looked upon as dishonest brokers in the business, with Gallup showing only 20 percent of those polled finding journalists honest and ethical (that’s 65 percent lower than nurses, 50 percent lower than doctors and engineers). Solid investigative reporters are simply in short supply and demand. Why? Because with opinion programming so much cheaper to produce

Barbara Walters told him that CNN’s covered this “more than any other story than I can remember.” Lemon said, “I think you’re probably right, but the audience interest is there.” Walters brought up the ratings issue, to which Lemon responded, “It’s not just the ratings, but we’re giving––part of what our mission is to give the audience what they want.” He argued that it’s important to keep covering the missing plane for the sake of the

Rep. Trey Gowdy: How Does Lois Lerner
Still Have The Right To Remain Silent

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) challenged the notion that former IRS official Lois Lerner still had the right to remain silent since she had made factual assertions since she invoked her Fifth Amendment right. Gowdy said that he counted 17 separate factual assertions by Lerner which in his opinion was enough to force her to be cross-examined. “That’s a lot of talking for someone who wants to remain silent. That’s a lot of talking!” Gowdy thundered. “If you honestly that you can make 17 separate factual assertions and still invoke your right to remain silent, then please tell me what waiver is?”

MONTGOMERY - AL - A statement made on the floor of the state house last month in Montgomery got a loud reply this afternoon from angry parents. State representative Alvin Holmes said republican lawmakers would support abortion if their daughters became pregnant by black men. Holmes later said he would offer $100,000 cash to anyone who could show "a whole bunch of whites" have adopted black children in Alabama. Today at the state house, white parents who adopted mixed race or minority children said it´s time for Holmes to ´pay up.´ Beverly Owings is an adoptive mother of a 13-year-old bi-racial daughter. Ayaan Hirsi Ali joined Megyn Kelly Wednesday night to react to Brandeis University rescinding the honorary degree they said they were giving her. Hirsi ALi blasted the “very feeble excuse” Brandeis gave and the way any critic of Islam is threatened with “violent repercussion” just for speaking out. Hirsi Ali said, “For the last 12 years I have systematically been condemned by Muslim individuals… any time that I bring up the treatment of women in Islam.” She said that the people who protested the Brandeis honor cherry-picked from various interviews she’s done over the years “to fit their own narrative.”

MURRYSVILLE, Pa. - It was just before the start of class and the hallways were packed as usual with students at their lockers or chatting with friends. Nate Moore was walking to homeroom, book in hand, when a classmate he knew to be quiet and unassuming tackled a freshman boy a few feet in front of him. Moore thought it was the start of a fistfight and went to break it up. But 16-year-old Alex Hribal wasn´t throwing punches - he was stabbing his victim in the belly, Moore said. The suspect got up and slashed Moore´s face, then took off down

New York - Most New Yorkers don´t even know it exists. But a million forgotten souls are buried in mass graves dug by convicts on a tiny, forbidden island east of the Bronx. Since 1869, still-born babies, the homeless, the poor and the unclaimed have been stacked one upon the other, three coffins deep, on Hart Island. Corpses are interred in great, anonymous trenches. There are no tombstones. Small white posts in the ground mark each 150 adult bodies. A thousand children and infants are buried together per grave. It is one of the largest cemeteries in the United States. And the least

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.

Less than 16 hours after Chelsea Clinton announced she was pregnant, a lot of major news outlets started staring into the crystal ball of Chelsea’s womb, wondering what this currently floating zygotic multicellular being meant for the prospects of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, which is also a floating, zygotic, multicellular being. Their answer: The immaculately conceived Clinton child could mean everything. The first step is admitting… It was a simple question to someone accustomed to much tougher ones: What was her proudest achievement as secretary of state? But for a moment, Hillary Rodham Clinton, appearing recently before a friendly audience at a women’s forum in Manhattan, seemed flustered.(Snip)So…no definitive successes and some clear-cut failures. Remember when Lois Lerner, in answering a planted question at an American Bar Association conference, admitted the IRS had targeted conservative groups but tried to pass it off as the work of rogue agents — “our line people in Cincinnati”? Today we know there were indeed federal agents involved. But they weren’t rogue, and they weren’t confined to IRS workers in Cincinnati. Thanks to a Freedom of Information request by Judicial Watch, we now have an e-mail Lerner sent to colleagues noting the Department of Justice was looking into criminal prosecutions of these tax-exempt groups. We know something else, too. These investigations
