A Slow-Motion Sausage Factory
National Review Online, by Robert Costa

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 4/18/2013 5:46:22 PM

Four months ago on a cold January day, an exhausted John Boehner walked into a windowless room in the Capitol basement, turned to his colleagues, and conceded. No longer, he told House Republicans, would he conduct closed-door negotiations with President Obama. House business, he declared, would now be ruled by “regular order.” In Beltway-speak, this meant that, from then on, Boehner would chiefly use the committees to craft legislation. Lawmaking, in almost every sense, would be slowed down. (Snip) It was a critical moment, and ever since, “regular order” has limited Obama.

Comments:
Maybe, just this once, even those who aren´t fond of Speaker Boehner might agree that he´s due some credit for putting the Obama agenda into slow motion.

Regular order, a way to fight back! Break up the immigration bill into pieces. Introduce a "Secure the Border First Bill" with metrics confirmed by the House before anything else is considered. Let the Dems go on record voting against that before the 2014 elections.

Imagine if they had held to "regular orders" from the beginning with mr. o. We would not be in the dangerous state that we are in now. However, better late than never.

The American people are tired of bills being rammed down their collective throats.

#9, I´ll second your motion and say it should make "Must Read" status.

More people need to understand this.
This "regular order" is how things are supposed to work in the absence of emergency.
Usually pundits say the Senate "cools off" the heated initiatives of the House.
This era, with Barky manipulating Reid to advance the White Hut agenda, it´s the
House cooling off anything coming from the Senate.

#8, this morning I overheard NPR when a friend was listening to it...
the announcer botched Nancy´s name so to me it sounded like "Peyote" in one attempt...

I now am calling her Nancy Peyote...
the hallucinating and delusional Left Wing Nut...

(she´s a wine and vineyard multi-millionairess, ya know... )
Any excuse will do for Peyote to Open Wine and then Opine & Whine... (why wait til Friday?)

ARLINGTON — The leading contenders for governor clashed Thursday on public education, as Democrat Wendy Davis called for more money for teachers and Republican Greg Abbott dismissed her proposals as “fuzzy math.” Davis unveiled a plan that would bring teacher salaries in line with the average pay nationwide. She also proposed guaranteeing high school students interested in becoming teachers a spot in college and a job when they finish their studies. Davis would also enhance a state college-loan repayment program for educators. “Education must be the Number 1 priority we address as a state,” the Fort Worth state senator said during a panel

The U.S. State Department warned Americans on Friday of the potential for terrorism at the Sochi Olympics but said it was not aware of any specific threat to U.S. citizens. In a "travel warning," the department urged Americans to be vigilant about personal security at the February 7 to March 14 Olympic Games, and flagged the possibility of petty crime, inadequate medical care and hotel shortages. It also highlighted a Russian law, much criticized by rights groups, that would make it a crime to publicly promote the equality of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. On January 19, 2011, in one of their very first actions after retaking majority control of the House of Representatives, Republicans voted to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare. The vote was largely symbolic; no one expected the Democratic Senate to take up the measure. But for the House GOP, the repeal vote was the necessary fulfillment of the core campaign promise that helped sweep them back into power. That promise, however, was only half fulfilled. Republicans had not merely vowed to remove Obamacare; they also said they would pass a program of their own in

Boy, have progressives “evolved.” The party of saloon protesters, suffragettes and crusaders against smoking, prostitution and immigration are now the champions of government-regulated vice. They no longer want to save souls, but use them to increase tax revenue to fund an ever expanding list of new priorities in a turnaround that would likely make Frances Willard, the famous head of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union in the late 1800s, reach for a bottle of Jack Daniel’s. The reversal is not totally consistent, however. No sooner had progressives successfully helped to ban smoking everywhere in public places had they moved on to champion

When computer models estimated that the national average daily temperature for the Lower 48 states dropped to 17.9 degrees on Monday, it was the first deep freeze of that magnitude
