Gitmo Is Killing Me
New York Times, by Samir Naji al Hasan Moqbel

Original Article

Posted By:Drive, 4/15/2013 8:29:32 AM

ONE man here weighs just 77 pounds. Another, 98. Last thing I knew, I weighed 132, but that was a month ago. I’ve been on a hunger strike since Feb. 10 and have lost well over 30 pounds. I will not eat until they restore my dignity. I’ve been detained at Guantánamo for 11 years and three months. I have never been charged with any crime. I have never received a trial.

The news here is that the NYT chose to print this article but won´t touch Gosnell or Obamacare´s morass with a ten foot pole. Always reliable for Palestinian and Arab sympathy, the NYT hopes what? To get this guy released?

How about releasing the testimony nurses at the murders of those live-born babies by Gosnell?

The Times is calling in its endorsement chips for Obama Kerry and Hagel. Or, basically, "We supported you because you promised, in private, a radical left agenda, now deliver". This and future Op-Ed essays and editorials will be the NYT´s way of bringing pressure to bear on O, K & H. By end of May, expect to see front page news stories on Gitmo, complete with photos of thin prisoners behind barbed wire.

The NYT wants Obama, Kerry & Hagel to: Free the Gitmo freedom fighters; abandon our allies; apologize to our enemies; destroy our remaining nuclear weapons and slash our conventional forces. And the NYT is fully committed to bringing these changes about.

A personal note to:
Samir Naji al Hasan Moqbel
You are where you are because of choices you made:
You choose to join a violent Muslim group
you choose to attack the people of my country who did you no wrong
You choose to hide among your own people.
You were caught!
You are now a prisoner in Guantanamo, being treated better than many of the people you attempted to kill.
I hope you enjoy your stay and never have the opportunity to do us harm again.
You where you are because of your choices.
I for one have no sympathy for you because now you have another choice, eat or don´t eat.
I for one don´t care

Hey guys! Lighten up. For just a second stop thinking with your anger against O and his news waterboys. Yes I too wish most of these had been killed on the field of battle. But Gitmo is just not right. Indefinite imprisonment without trial is just wrong - and no crime should be punished without opportunity to defend oneself. Forced feedings are shameful. I don´t care what the world thinks of us but I am ashamed of what we continue to do. Part of what has made us strong is affording dignity to those who DO NOT DESERVE IT.

News organizations will go to great lengths to maintain the legal fiction of "innocent until proven guilty," no matter how many eyewitnesses there are. Nidal Hasan is consistently called an "alleged" attacker. Their excuse (not a reason, not any longer) is they do not want to influence a jury. Yet they run this trash, specifically to force action from the legal process.

Treasonous hypocrites. Nationalize the New York Times and give it to Rupert Murdoch.

Just to make sure that everybody understands who the Gitmo detainees are:

1. They are people who have been arrested on the suspicion of committing a crime.

2. They are "Prisoners of War".

They are, according to the Geneva Conventions, illegal combatants. As such they are accorded no protections what so ever, none. In prior wars, once captured, illegal combatants were questioned, using whatever methods the capturing force thought necessary then summarily executed. All "legal" within the Geneva Conventions.

Should it be desired that we release them, I suggest a nice sunny spot, somewhere between Cuba and the Canary Islands.

I agree #30.

#36, do you know that this man (and maybe others) had anything to do with the 9/11 attack? If so, charge him. But since when it is right to put people in prison indefinitely with no charges? Do we know for sure that he was a combatant? He might have been one of those who was accused by others but not part of any radical group. We don´t know what happened. But as #30 said, it isn´t right to hold someone for years and years and years with no charges filed nor anything to prove that he was involved in attacking our soldiers or citizens. I am no softy when it comes to terrorists and radical muslims, but there was a reason why the U.S. used to be EXCEPTIONAL. But now we act just like all the other countries (especially when it comes to incarcerating people) and often times we are worse.

Second, the fake prisoner, (according ti him and a couple of posters), needs to write Obama and Holder who stopped military trials in 2008. They are the source of your injustice. This is simply a politically calculated stunt, nothing more. They´re betting their lives that the ´horror´ of this will make the limp wrist progressives give up and release them. I agree that imprisoning them indefinitely without due process is wrong. If they were uniformed soldiers, we´d treat them as such, as prisoners of war, and repatriate them after hostilities cease. By their choice, they have abandoned the rules of normal, civilized war. I say give them a military tribunal and treat them as the equivalent of spies, non uniformed combatants that have separated themselves from the Geneva convention protections. Then execute them as you would spies.

Our country has fallen far too far to do the right thing. These guys will probably die of old age in Gitmo.

As everyone knows, Brandeis publicly announced that they would award Ayaan Hirsi Ali an honorary doctorate--and then, under siege by nearly 30% of their professors, and by thousands of their own students, they publicly disinvited Hirsi Ali. Secretary of State John Kerry evidently runs a tight ship, given the paucity of leaks that emerge from his office. So we know he is organized and disciplined. He is also an energetic risk-taker, jumping into high-wire negotiations with Iran, and forcing the Israelis and Palestinians to the negotiating table -- enterprises that could likely end in failure and ruin his reputation. This is a man with character. Crimea is in Moscow’s hands. Some of Kiev’s army has surrendered parts of eastern Ukraine without a fight. And now there are signs that Russian President Vladimir Putin may have picked his next targets: First a small breakaway state in Moldova, west of Ukraine, where thousands of Moscow’s troops are already stationed; then its close neighbor Odessa, Ukraine’s third-largest city and its largest remaining port, where pro-Russian and pro-government groups are tangling. If forces loyal to Putin can successfully disrupt Odessa, it could effectively cut the county of Ukraine in two.

New York City’s welfare system is managed out of a boxy 25-story office building on Water Street in Lower Manhattan. Approximately 5,000 employees work there, directing government programs that provide billions of dollars of taxpayer-funded assistance to the poor and near-poor. A solid majority of the workers at 180 Water Street are African-American or Latino; their voter registration is almost certainly overwhelmingly Democratic; and all but about 300 of them are union members. But from 1995 until this past December, the people who worked in New York’s principal social-services agency were leading one of the most conservative and successful welfare

MOSCOW — President Vladimir Putin, who repeatedly denied Russian troops had entered Crimea before the March referendum there, changed his version of those events Thursday, telling the nation that they had indeed been there all along. But the green-uniformed men observed in eastern Ukraine right now, storming buildings and raising the Russian flag, are not Russian, he said. “Those are local residents,” he said

The first suspected Heartbleed hacker is a 19-year-old kid with a faint mustache, short black hair, and a disposition that’s so diffident his lawyer often refers to him as “a nerd, a stereotypical computer geek.” But he’s a computer geek, his lawyer says, with a history of hacking. On Wednesday, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced the arrest of Stephen Solis-Reyes, which the agency said went down “without incident.” Accusing the Ontario man of the “malicious breach of taxpayer data from the Canada Revenue Agency,” it charged him with two criminal counts of illegal cyber activity and alleged he had used

In late February, the City University of New York announced that it had tapped Princeton economist and New York Times blogger Paul Krugman for a distinguished professorship at CUNY’s Graduate Center and its Luxembourg Income Study Center, a research arm devoted to studying income patterns and their effect on inequality. About that. According to a formal offer letter obtained under New York’s Freedom of Information Law, CUNY intends to pay Krugman $225,000, or $25,000 per month (over two semesters), to “play a modest role in our public events” and “contribute to the build-up” of a new “inequality initiative.” It is not

As predictable as the media silence to follow comes the news that New York City´s new left-wing mayor, who ran on a platform based in large part on raising taxes, paid an effective 8.3% tax rate in 2013 based on a total income of over $200,000. Mayor de Blasio and his wife made $167,047 in income, $52,000 in rental income on a second home in Park Slope, and reported charitable donations that totaled just 3% of their income, or $5,597.

Attorney General Eric Holder‘s planned meeting with mainstream media outlets’ Washington bureau chiefs have been stalled after the Justice Department indicated that the conversations would be off-the-record. The New York Times‘ executive editor Jill Abramson was the first to decline the invitation, and shortly after the AP, CNN, CBS News and The Huffington Post followed suit. With much of the debate over the DOJ’s subpoena guidelines revolving around reporter James Rosen, Fox News clearly has a vested interest in the outcome of the meeting. While there appears to be a mini-campaign among Fox anchors to send Rosen himself to the meeting

Like him or hate him, there is no disputing that Rush Limbaugh’s very special brand of mixing right-wing politics with his flare for entertainment has produced one of the most successful radio programs in the medium’s long history. Whatever the burning political question of the day, millions of Americans have relished the opportunity to tune into Rush’s program, knowing that he would quickly take that hot potato, throw a few gallons of verbal kerosene into the mix and elevate the matter into a five alarm fire with a just a few well-chosen words spoken in the style only Rush Limbaugh could

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote in her forthcoming book that she was “hurt” and “angry” by 2012 reporting on her fraudulent claim to Native American heritage. “What really threw me, though, were the constant attacks from the other side,” Warren wrote in her book “A Fighting Chance.” “I would almost persuade myself that I was starting to get the hang of full-throttle campaigning and then — bam! Out of left field, the state Republican Party, or the Brown campaign, or some blogger, would launch a rocket at me,” Warren wrote, adding, ”I was stunned by the attacks.” This reporter (blogger?) reported extensively

WASHINGTON — Former President Jimmy Carter joined fellow Nobel laureates Wednesday in opposing Keystone XL, insisting that approving the pipeline would trigger “more climate upheaval” around the globe. In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

With Easter soon approaching, the Rev. Al Sharpton on Wednesday drew parallels between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the resurrection of President Obama’s political career. Joining the “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” Mr. Sharpton said that his message for this Easter is that “no matter what the world may do to you unfairly, no matter how you’re crucified — nailed to the cross at home, or in your personal relationships, or on the job — that you can rise if you don’t lose yourself during the hard times and the challenges.” The reverend went on to say that Christ endured so much humiliation and unearned suffering leading up to his death,

The cash infusion by the federal government is actually going to help the city pay pensions, even though they´re playing a kind of shell game with the money. As for "blight removal," perhaps they could start with city hall. Reuters: Michigan officials and President Barack Obama´s Administration are discussing a plan to free up $100 million in federal money to aid Detroit´s retired city workers, the Detroit Free Press reported on Tuesday. Citing two people familiar with the talks, the newspaper said the talks were centered around federal money flowing to Michigan for blight removal. Under the plan, $100 million

Climate change’s latest casualty appears to be fish — or more specifically, fish brains — as researchers say the carbon dioxide that’s being absorbed into the ocean is causing the scaly creatures to lose their survival instincts. In other words, the fish are losing their minds, The Daily Mail reported. The acid from atmospheric carbon dioxide seeps into sea waters, dissolves and ultimately lowers the pH balance, researchers said. The acidic waters then hamper the fishes’ sensory systems, so they’re not able to distinguish between smells any longer, the scientists went on. When the acid levels get really high, the fish lose their
