A huge fire has broken out at the main international airport in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) had been closed and passengers evacuated. Cabinet secretary for transport Michael Kamau said the fire was "very severe" and urged people to stay away from the airport. Images showed flames raging from one of the main buildings. The interior ministry tweeted that an evacuation of the entire airport was under way, with only essential personnel remaining, but said the fire had been contained.

During their whirlwind tour of Cairo Tuesday, two top GOP senators held the most extensive meeting to date between U.S. officials and senior officials in the embattled Muslim Brotherhood, whose supporters are fighting in the streets to overturn last month’s military takeover of Egypt. Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) also met with Egyptian Prime Minister Hazem El Beblawi, the leader of the military takeover Gen. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei, local political party leaders, and civil society representatives.

In a May 30, 2013, letter to CIA officers on the ground last fall in Benghazi, Libya, CIA director John Brennan notifies survivors of those attacks that congressional oversight committees remain interested in hearing from them. HPSCI (House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence) and SSCI (Senate Select Committee on Intelligence), Brennan wrote, “have asked that CIA leadership reach out to officers who were in Benghazi during the attacks to let them know of the committees’ interest in hearing first-hand account. For many Americans, the first inkling of an anti-Nazi German resistance movement came in the movie Valkyrie, starring Tom Cruise. The 2008 movie dramatized the German underground conspiracy headed by Count Claus von Stauffenberg to assassinate Hitler on July 20, 1944. This star-crossed plot was not only a colossal failure, it was also the anti-Nazi German resistance’s last gasp. In its aftermath, Hitler executed hundreds, if not thousands, of anti-Nazi Germans. What is less well known--what is not taught to us--is that there was much more to this anti-Nazi movement. Its leaders inside military, clergy,

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is on top of yet another poll today. But it´s not the result her team was hoping for. In a new Rasmussen Reports poll, Clinton tops five others as the one candidate voters don´t want to win in 2016. "Regardless of whom you would vote for, which candidate would you least like to see win the Democratic nomination in 2016? Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Martin O´Malley, Andrew Cuomo, Antonio Villaraigosa or Cory Booker?" Rasmussen asked. The results: Clinton 27 percent, Biden 24 percent.

Former President Bill Clinton made his first public comments on the New York mayor’s race, saying he and his wife Hillary Clinton were not even remotely involved in the race and declining to comment on former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s sexting scandal. “We are a hundred miles from that race and everyone understands that we are not going to be involved, as long as our personal friends and people who we feel obligations are involved,” he told CNN in an interview posted Tuesday. The Clintons live outside of the city, but have been drawn into the fracas of the mayor’s race as a result of their relationship with Huma Abedin, one of Hillary Clinton’s close aides, who is married to would-be mayor Anthony Weiner.

He said that these details were leaked to the press to prove spying initiatives, like the National Security Agency’s communications monitoring programs, are effective.

Their assessment troubled them. “We knew we could survive, but we always felt that our ownership should do more than help the paper survive,” Mr. Graham said in an interview Monday evening. With the agreement of the board, the company retained Allen & Company and had an initial round of discussions with six potential buyers.

This seemed inevitable. With all the efforts to tie the Tea Party and “right wing“ to violence committed by others, it wouldn’t be long before the Islamic radical Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev was tied to “right-wing” causes. With the slenderest of proof, The BBC goes there: One of the brothers suspected of carrying out the Boston bombings was in possession of right-wing American literature in the run-up to the attack, BBC Panorama has learnt.

It’s difficult to imagine someone more important in U.S. history than Harry Hopkins, but Americans don’t learn much more than his name, if that, in school. This means we aren’t taught that Hopkins, FDR’s top wartime advisor, ran what became known as “Roosevelt’s own personal Foreign Office” from the Lincoln Bedroom, where Hopkins lived for three-and-half-years. We aren’t taught that this former social worker in key ways controlled U.S. foreign policy by controlling the distribution of U.S. military materiel to countries at war through his supervision of the massive Lend Lease program.

In a shocking announcement late Monday, The Washington Post Co. announced that it´s selling its eponymous newspaper to Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos for $250 million. Obviously, it´s early to say how the sale and new owner will affect the direction of the newspaper. Most new newspaper owners (ahem, Rupert Murdoch) immediately vow not to interfere with the news reporting of the paper, though sometimes they don´t keep that vow. As at many newspapers, Post editorial page editor Fred Hiatt reports to the publisher rather than the editor. Publisher Katharine Weymouth

The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. In an interview for The Guardian Weekend magazine, actor Matt Damon recently weighed in with his thoughts on how President Barack Obama has handled the scandals that have engulfed his administration since the spring. Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. The actor said that Obama is allowing himself to “get bullied” and is acting as though is “manhood”

NEW YORK — Why doesn´t Anthony Weiner just quit? It´s a question angry voters, pundits and fellow politicians have been asking almost nonstop in the nearly two weeks since the New York City mayoral candidate´s latest sexting bombshell, which has sent his poll numbers plummeting and turned his campaign into a chaotic sideshow. Weiner insists he´s staying in the race no matter what. And experts say that beyond the former congressman´s well-known ego and combativeness, his stance may just be rooted in political calculation. A leading theory: Weiner takes his hits on the campaign trail, gives the media a chance
