A few hours after Margaret Thatcher´s death on Monday, the snarling deadbeats of the British underclass were gleefully rampaging through the streets of Brixton in South London, scaling the marquee of the local fleapit and hanging a banner announcing, "THE B@&$! IS DEAD." Amazingly, they managed to spell all four words correctly. By Friday, "Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead," from "The Wizard of Oz," was the No. 1 download at Amazon UK. Mrs. Thatcher would have enjoyed all this. Her former speechwriter John O´Sullivan recalls how, some years after leaving office, she
Steyn makes magic with his words. A nice tribute to Mrs. Thatcher. She was one of the giants in the free world in a remarkable era. Reagan, Thatcher, Pope John Paul II, Lech Walesa, and yes, even Gorbachev, who knew how to see reality. Now we have a pathetic, dullard of a U.S. president, a disgrace at State and at Defense, and nothing makes me optimistic...
Thatcher and Reagan are of a generation lost and the likes of which I doubt we shall ever see again. All of the so-called leaders today are so small. Mark Steyn knows it - which is why his writings are so hard to find (Orange County Register, NRO?). He should be syndicated in every major newspaper in the West - and he would be if they were really newspapers.
We are fighting a battle that can´t be won. It can only be put off and I believe we saw the last chance of delaying it was in November 2012. The evil that is enveloping the world has a strong hold and will not relinquish its grip except by divine intervention. It is II Chronicles 7:14 time. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
Mrs. Thatcher was a try patriot. She was a wonder woman and is now being vilified by the "low information voters" and ignorant people who have never and never will vote. That is what is happening to our country right now. We are being run by the low information voters and people who are too dumb to even know what a voting ballot even looks like. We are doomed forever. Nothing will ever be "normal" again. There is no Ronald Reagan or Margaret Thatcher out there anymore. They have been lost by the teachings of liberal college who have not taught true democracy in years. God Bless this country!!!!!PLEASE
As stated in another L.com thread, the BBC and the american msm can go suck a cow cookie. I´m in London, (just got in a couple of hours ago traveling on business) and staying at the Grange St. Pauls. At the cathedral across the street, to a man and woman, solid support for the Iron Lay. Even my cab driver who had ample time to give me the low down between Heathrow airport and my hotel had copious praise. Not bad for a union guy.
Steyn is my favorite writer and thinker. The wittiest and most insightful guy out there, and I have no doubt that this particular piece displays his brilliance. I would love to comment on his work. But is there no longer any way to read than to pay for it? $2 for a day pass to the OC Register, really? Did that happen after everyone above posted, or do all my Lucianne friends subscribe? Or comment without reading the whole thing. Sigh. How spoiled I´ve become. I´ll miss you, Mark. But $2 for what´s probably 1000 words or less is a little pricey to do on regular basis. Guess I´ll wait for his next book.
#7 "The U.S. is leaderless now, and has been for the last 4+ years" ------------------------------------- Just as well, we´re rudderless, also, thanks to the war on American principles being waged by the left.
It’s a fact: repubics badly lost several elections. Of course, 2010 was a success, but it was commies who went too commie/fascist style and scared some folks. Obviously, they didn’t repeat this mistake in 2012. And it looks by what they are doing now, they wring political rinos so that we, American public, are with a feeling there is no political party to work for us. I suggest for conservative patriots, to learn how the political struggle is waged. You can do it by studying from the source – lenin, hitler, alinsky and others. Don’t be shy – the future of America and many people in the world are at stake.
The "must reads" editor said it best: "The best description of (Thatcher´s) grave dancers yet: "Snarling deadbeats of the British under class." Snarling deadbeats: Think ignorant - uneducated. University degrees no longer verify education; it verifies they pleased an uneducated liberal so called professor with useless knowledge; and they may have gone on to include parrot talk to a committee for the PhD.
We patriotic Americans are not doomed. we exist in large numbers, are competent, still have the vote, and so I´m told, are armed to the teeth unlike the rest of the world. Remember the(one gun plus one Jew = one dead Nazi) x 1,000,000 =no Holacaust.//Biden says his Special Forces in Black Helicopters can take our guns away.//They have about 60,000 trigger pullers. As an old infantry officer I can tell you that´s not enough against a 100 million plus Americans with guns.
"A generation on, the Thatcher era seems more and more like a magnificent but temporary interlude in a great nation’s bizarre, remorseless self-dissolution. She was right and they were wrong, and because of that they will never forgive her."
We will see MANY Anti-Americans treat people like Dr. Benjamin Carson, Rand Paul, Allan West, and a host of other Conservatives, as if they are the second coming of the Devil himself, not ever wanting to admit that they, themselves, have been LIED TO for their entire lives. More so, they will cringe to realize that they´ve been TOO STUPID to realize it until it was too late.
Earlier Tuesday, NBC News reported that President Barack Obama had shaken hands with Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe. However, the UK Telegraph´s Josie Ensor reported that Obama "was asked to take his seat just before reaching Mugabe." Complicating matters, another article in the UK Telegraph also claimed that Obama had shaken hands with Mugabe--in very similar terms to those used in the NBC article. Breitbart News caught the discrepancy--and suddenly the NBC News article was corrected, with no notice. Before: On his way to the rostrum, Obama also shook the hand of Robert Mugabe, the strongman ruler of Zimbabwe, and hugged Dilma Rousseff, the
The budget deal announced Tuesday by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) would boost federal spending by around $65 billion over the next two years. This new spending is offset by increasing user fees, boosting pension contributions by federal employees and the military, and other minor changes. Ryan and Murray also say that the deal will reduce the deficit by $23 billion over the next 10 years. This reduction, however, doesn´t start until 2022. According to a 4-page summary document of the deal obtained by Breitbart News, "[t]he budget proposal saves $28 billion over ten years by requiring
President Obama will extend his mini-amnesty for young illegals, said Cecilia Muñoz, White House director of domestic policy. “As long as this president” is in power, “you will be able to renew your deferred action,” Muñoz told one questioner during an online question-and-answer session on immigration conducted via Skype. So far, Obama’s deputies have granted the two-year “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” amnesty to at least 567,563 illegals, giving them the right to get jobs in every state, get drivers’ licenses in some states, to enroll in school and to receive government aid. Only 21,162 illegals have been rejected. Roughly 11 million
The White House insisted Wednesday that President Obama’s credibility had not been damaged by the botched rollout of Obamacare, despite a series of recent polls showing his diminished standing with the American public. "I don´t think I agree with that conclusion,” White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said of the assertion that fewer Americans trust the president because of broken promises over his signature domestic achievement. However, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that 54 percent of respondents disapproved of the president’s job performance, driven mainly by the problem-plagued rollout of Obamacare. Fifty-eight percent of those surveyed said Obamacare was
The death of iconic South African leader Nelson Mandela prompted torrents of gushing praise from world leaders and media this week. Mandela was widely depicted as a near-flawless human being. BBC presenter Evan Davis said Mandela ranked near Jesus in the "pantheon of virtue"; Bono said Mandela was "stubborn ´til the end for all the right reasons, it felt like he very nearly outstared his maker." But the truth about Mandela is somewhat more shaded. He will be remembered for his magnificent legacy of racial unification in the aftermath of his release from prison in 1990. Mandela´s critics worried, not unreasonably,
Imagine if a provision in ObamaCare allowed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to dictate directly to doctors which services they could and could not provide their patients—what individual tests they could conduct, which treatments they could offer, and medicines they could prescribe. Americans would be outraged. Yet some Republicans on Capitol Hill are about to help Democrats pass such a provision for Medicare patients. The Senate Finance Committee is set to vote on permanent "doc-fix" legislation Thursday that grants the federal government broad new authority to determine "applicable appropriate use criteria" for the full range of outpatient medical
Most of Washington seems to have bought the White House claim that the 36 federal exchanges are finally working, and glory, glory, hallelujah. But if that´s really true, then what explains the ongoing secrecy and evasion? On Wednesday the Health and Human Services Department continued its Victorian-era strip tease and allowed a glimpse into the Affordable Care Act´s "enrollment" for November. Out of respect for a free press, reporters ought to boycott these releases because they´re so selective that they reveal little about real enrollment. But we´ll try to parse the data as best we can without the White House high
Federal Spending: The hue and cry over the two-year budget deal masks the real threat facing the country — the vast and potentially permanent expansion of government by President Obama during his first five years in office. Michael Needham, who heads Heritage Action for America, called the budget deal put together by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., a "step backward." He´s right. The plan relies on some of the worst budget gimmicks around. It boosts spending in the next two years by $63 billion, for example, while spreading the promised $85 billion in cuts over 10 years. But it is,
Revelation: Colin Powell, George W. Bush´s secretary of state, has confirmed the suspicion that derailed his plan to run for president: He´s not just a liberal, but a socialist. It´s been a long time ago now, but Powell was once the dream Republican presidential candidate for a lot of pundits, campaign experts and ordinary Americans who appreciated his outstanding military service and pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps success story. Now we find that Powell is with the extreme left of the Democratic Party on health care, supporting European-style single-payer socialized medicine. "I don´t see why we can´t do what Europe is doing, what Canada is doing, what
Diplomacy: President Obama extended a hearty handshake to Cuba´s iron-fisted dictator Raul Castro just as the latter was beating up dissidents back home on the eve of Human Rights Day. No good will come of this. After six months of secret talks through Cuban emissaries — secrets kept from the American people, not Cuba´s dictatorship — the time seemed right for a flailing U.S. president and a dictator on the skids to shake hands and make nice at Nelson Mandela´s funeral in South Africa. For some shallow observers, it was all about Mandela´s legacy of everyone getting along. But it´s bad for the
So here’s the photo, my photo, which quickly lit up the world’s social networks and news websites. The “selfie” of three world leaders who, during South Africa’s farewell to Nelson Mandela, were messing about like kids instead of behaving with the mournful gravitas one might expect. In general on this blog, photojournalists tell the story behind a picture they’ve taken. I’ve done this for images from Pakistan, and India, where I am based. And here I am again, but this time the picture comes from a stadium in Soweto, and shows people taking a photo of themselves. I guess it’s a
Roberto Schmidt, a German-Colombian photojournalist based in India, saw a moment worth capturing at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service in Soweto, South Africa on Tuesday, and capture it he did: the ‘selfie’ taken by President Barack Obama along with two other world leaders and next to a p1$$3d-off seeming Michelle Obama, immediately went viral. Mediaite sure covered it, as did most internet publications, and by early afternoon it was gristle for cable news commentators on both the left and the right—much to Schmidt’s dismay. “It’s a sign of our times that somehow this image seemed to get more attention than the event
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
President Obama’s job approval among American voters has dropped to negative territory with just 38 percent voicing their approval versus the 58 who says they disapprove, according to a national poll released Tuesday by the independent Quinnipiac University. That is one percent less than the 39% who said they approved of him in last month’s poll. The majority of the 2,692 registered voters the University in early December said that the president is not honest and trustworthy. When asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as President?,” respondents gave Obama lackluster ratings
Looks like this president can’t get away with flirting in front of his wife… It appears that first lady Michelle Obama was none too pleased with the way that President Barack Obama was acting toward Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during a ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela, and before too long, they switched seats. This lmao! Michelle Obama vs Prime Minister of Denmark at Mandela´s ceremony. pic.twitter.com/Rq4uF9fTaZ — Stun (@TheBlogPirate) December 10, 2013
Barack Obama has arrived in South Africa to lead the American delegation at a memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. But his party is reportedly stuck in traffic and he is said to have arrived late at the stadium for the ceremony. [Snip] But Mr Clinton, Mr Carter and his wife Rosalynn have all traveled separately to the event. According to reports, Mr Obama and his delegation are stuck in a lines of traffic caused by tens of thousands of people making their way to the event. Mr Obama is among the foreign leaders who
The sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela´s memorial yesterday "made up his own signs," according to South Africa´s deaf federation. "He´s a complete fraud," Cara Loening, director of Sign Language Education and Development in Cape Town, said according to ITV News. "He wasn´t even doing anything, There was not one sign there. Nothing. He was literally flapping his arms around." Delphin Hlungwane, an official South African sign language interpreter at DeafSA, told Reuters:
