During the Q and A session after Sen. Rand Paul’s speech at Howard University, one student explained that he was not a fan of his view of government. “You say you want to provide a government that leaves us alone, quite frankly, I don’t want that,” the student said. “I want a government that is going to help me.” The student insisted that he wanted assistance for his college education and asked if Rand Paul supported a culture change within the nation. “Do you Sen. Rand Paul have a formulated solution to come up with new American values
This "student" has the same attitude as the losers during Katrina when they took over and destroyed a $100 million dollar stadium after being "rescued" from a roof! They never consider "helping" themselves, but then why should they when racist-democrats continue to keep them in their place, so they will vote the "right" way. BTW, If obama had a son.....
Yeah, I would have liked some assistance with my college education, too. I had a 4.0 GPA and was on the Dean´s Honor List every semester, but every scholarship available during the 5 years I got my Associates and Bachelors degrees were limited to minorities and females. They might have well just said, "White Males need not apply." That limited me to school loans and Workstudy. It´s all a racket. Tuition was always due a week before the loan got to me, so it had to go on my credit card. I honestly believe it´s all collusion between the school, government, and the credit card companies.
"The children will reap all the benefits of socialist child care, free nurseries and schools with the very best facilities and teachers. Children will have wonderful recreational and sports facilities. They will have the option to choose whatever career they wish, and the free education and training to achieve it.
Some ask whether guaranteeing basic necessities, free education and health care will encourage people to avoid working, or doing one´s best. The principle of socialism is: From each according to his/her ability, to each according to his/her work."
Of course the last word of the last paragraph is NOT what Marx taught. The word was Need and not Work. In any case, as is Obama, this kid is a disciple.
Following No. 8´s train of thought. Our present lib gov´t is encouraging illegitimacy among the lower classes that is astonishing. Kids born out of wedlock, kids born out of gay unions & the like don´t really have two parents they can grow up relying on. Gov´t is the de facto "Mom & Dad" - it is all a conspiracy to substitute gov´t for a real family & buy their loyalty.
That student´s question cries out for a response that would have educated him/her and all the many others who are reading about it. Senator Paul missed a golden opportunity. It made me wish Senator Ted Cruz had been there to answer it.
The dearth of genuine knowledge of our Founding Documents and our history will be the death of America.
The so called student is already brain dead. Some day in the near future he may end up with a job. His attitude will no doubt change when he gets his first real paycheck- minus 50% for taxes. Money does not grow on trees (ben just prints it). Sooner or later we all pay in terms of higher taxes or higher prices and loss of purchasing power. This fool doesn´t realize his turn will arrive shortly.
We MUST get rid of the Federal Department of Education, and take back educating our young to the local districts, which would choose the course of study to exclude all the social crap. Think about it, little boys get punished for munching a pop tart into a gun shape, or point a finger like a gun and get punished. By the time they are 21 they will be terrified at the thought of a gun. Then they will allow the abolition of the 2nd amendment.
First off, the student´s question is nonsensical. That said, here´s my "formulated solution" to your college assitance challenge: we, th government, will pay for your college education, but, we will decide IF you get to enter higher education and we will decide WHAT you will study. After all, that´s the way the other socialist countries do it. Sound fair junior?
The National Givernment has no money, except the money it extracts from citizens. So the money you want from the givernment to support you comes from someone who is paying taxes.
Oh...whatever, there is no way to explain to these indoctrinated students that the communist world they want is not "caring" or sharing, except with the elite political class. Like those who attended the SoulTrain Sequester Jester at Our House last night.
Berlin — The shadows deepen and lengthen, memories grow dim, and some of the survivors of the tragedies of World War II scramble to preserve the recollections before the colors fade to gray. There’s no shortage of ghosts prowling the cities and countryside of Europe. Remembrances of monstrous evil lie all about. None have tried harder than the progeny of the Germans who started it all to learn from the past, and recall without flinching the scourge and stain on history that is still unfathomable three-quarters of a century later. An exhibit of photographs of the Nazi era, with the
Amid workers alleging union-busting by an NBC Universal-owned company, MSNBC’s prime-time host Chris Hayes recently met privately with a group of them to hear their concerns, according to several people present at the meeting. Hayes is one of five prime-time MSNBC hosts – along with Rachel Maddow, Al Sharpton, Lawrence O’Donnell and Ed Schultz – whose support the Writers Guild of America–East is seeking in an ugly labor struggle with Peacock Productions, which is owned by NBC Universal and has produced programming for MSNBC. A petition posted by the AFL-CIO and hosted by MoveOn.org
No one can argue with the fact that Paul Ryan’s compromise budget bill raises taxes and increases spending. Show me one Republican who got elected on that platform. Spare America the Orwellian word games. If the government is taking money out of your pocket to fund its growing Big Brother operations, it’s a tax. Whether money is taken from you via your phone bill, your airline ticket, or your income, it’s a tax. If politicians can’t be honest about this, it’s time to go home. The TEA Party’s very acronym stands for “Taxed Enough Already.” We sent these politicians to Congress
New enrollment figures show health-insurance exchanges nationwide are attracting more customers, but the Obama administration said that it has more work to do to get enough younger, healthy people into the system. The administration said Wednesday that as of Nov. 30, nearly 365,000 people nationwide had selected private health plans in the exchanges created by the Affordable Care Act—sharply up from October, but still far from the seven million level officials are hoping to achieve by March 31. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius faced renewed criticism of the health-care law´s rollout at a House hearing Wednesday. Republicans suggested the plans
New York — Big Brother could be at your favorite store. As CBS 2´s Don Champion reported, a growing number of stores are using discrete and sophisticated technology — including mannequins with facial-recognition cameras hidden in their eyes — to track shopper demographics in an effort to boost sales. Retailers say the marketing data technology allows them to cater their business to customers better, but it’s also raising privacy concerns. Alfonso Perez built a system called Shopperception that Walmart has utilized. It uses motion-sensored cameras to track a shopper’s product choice on a shelf and the time it takes to make a
The new debt run up by the federal government since House Speaker John Boehner cut his first spending deal with President Barack Obama has now topped $3 trillion—exceeding all the debt accumulated under all American presidents from George Washington through Ronald Reagan. Boehner became speaker in January 2011, after the Republicans won a majority of the House of Representatives in the 2010 elections. He cut his first spending deal with President Barack Obama on March 1, 2011, and that deal took effect after March 4, 2011 when the continuing resolution then funding the government expired. Since then, the federal
Moscow - Speak Russian or be silent. Nationalist lawmakers want to ban foreign languages at the workplace - a rule that would leave some foreigners speechless, from menial laborers from former Soviet states to Western business executives in suits and ties. Two deputies from flamboyant ultranationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky´s party introduced a bill on Thursday that would bar Russians and foreigners from speaking foreign languages on the job during working hours, state-run RIA news agency reported. It cited a summary of the proposal as saying that many foreigners do not know Russian and "speak amongst themselves in their own language
Pyongyang, North Korea — North Korea said Friday that it had executed Kim Jong Un´s uncle as a traitor for trying to seize supreme power, a stunning end for the leader´s former mentor, long considered the country´s No. 2. In a sharp reversal of the popular image of Jang Song Thaek as a kindly uncle guiding leader Kim Jong Un as he consolidated power, the North´s official Korean Central News Agency indicated that Jang instead saw the death of Kim´s father, Kim Jong Il, in December 2011 as an opportunity to challenge his nephew and win power. Jang had been tried and
By the early 2020s, we will have the means to program our biology away from disease and aging. Up until recently, health and medicine was basically a hit or miss affair. We would discover interventions such as drugs that had benefits, but also many side effects. Until recently, we did not have the means to actually design interventions on computers. All of that has now changed, and will dramatically change clinical practice by the early 2020s. We now have the information code of the genome and are making exponential gains in modeling and simulating the information processes they give rise to. We also have
Uruguay has become the first country in the world to make it legal to grow, sell and consume marijuana. After nearly 12 hours of debate, senators gave the government-sponsored bill their historic final approval. The law allowing registered Uruguayans over 18 to buy up to 40g (1,4oz) of the drug a month is not expected to come into force before April. The government hopes it will help tackle drug cartels, but critics say it will expose more people to drugs. Dozens of supporters of the bill proposed by the left-wing President Jose Mujica gathered outside the Congress in Montevideo to follow the vote. Presenting the
Nelson Mandela was an important man, a public man of native gravitas, certainly a patient man, and maybe a great man as our age measures greatness. It’s too soon to know. We’ll have to wait until we can get Mandela without the tears. It’s a characteristic of our age that we swing to and fro in measuring men, causes and events. An honorable death sometimes grants heads of state, kings, princesses, politicians and aspiring potentates a temporary idolatry that becomes embarrassing only later. Assassinations are a category unique, of course. John F. Kennedy, in the days following his death, was widely acclaimed
Ben Affleck might seem like a political junkie, but the actor appears to have soured on the political system. Asked by Playboy magazine to explain how he came about his interest in politics, Affleck said: “I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I brought them with me when I showed up in Hollywood.” Affleck talked about having a connection to the presidential campaigns for former Vice President Al Gore and then-Sen. John Kerry —
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
Fox News host Megyn Kelly has made herself the center of a racial controversy by declaring that Jesus Christ and Santa Claus are white. On Wednesday night, Kelly was responding to an article by Slate writer Aisha Harris, who wrote an article entitled “ Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore .” The popular news host told viewers of “The Kelly File,” her hit FNC program, “When I saw this headline, I kinda laughed and I said, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it´s racist to have a white Santa.’ And by the way, for all you kids
Views of the tea party are at all-time lows in a new poll, as primary challenges to establishment Republicans continue to heat up Washington. Just 30 percent of Americans view the tea party favorably in a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, the movement’s lowest point since Gallup began polling about it during its rise in 2010. Also in a first, a majority of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, at 51 percent. Similar numbers of respondents described themselves as proponents or opponents of the tea party: Twenty-two percent identified themselves as tea party supporters, while 24 percent said they
THE Internet has been abuzz over the spectacle of President Obama and the prime ministers of Britain and Denmark snapping a photo of themselves — a “selfie,” to use the mot du jour — with a smartphone at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela in South Africa on Tuesday. Leaving aside whether it was appropriate, the moment captured the democratization of image making that is a hallmark of our gadget-filled, technologically rich era. Manifestly undemocratic, in contrast, is the way Mr. Obama’s administration — in hypocritical defiance of the principles of openness and transparency he campaigned on — has systematically tried
If you go down on the ice today you´re sure of a big surprise - a rare glimpse of 20 polar bears gorging on a bloody midnight feast. These photographs show a rare cluster of males, females and cubs all dining out on the remains of a whale carcass. They spent a night and a day stripping every last morsel from the mammoth sea creature. Usually Polar bears are solitary and would never tolerate being so close to each other. But with food in plentiful supply and bellies dragging on the floor they seem too lethargic to fight.Wildlife photographer Michal
WASHINGTON – It’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of the budget deal.“Embrace the suck,” House minority leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi told fellow Democrats Thursday morning, a source told Politico.“We need to get this off the table so we can go forward,” she added. It’s a way of telling her colleagues the budget deal negotiated with Republicans is the best they can get. Democrats are fuming that the bipartisan budget deal doesn’t extend unemployment benefits for more than a million Americans. One of Pelosi’s top lieutenants, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, said Thursday it
Columnist Charles Krauthammer attacked new Obamacare rules unveiled by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in a late Thursday conference call, saying the Obama administration is “approach[ing] banana republic lawlessness” by issuing the decrees. Krauthammer spoke with Fox News’ Bret Baier on a panel with Juan Williams and Judge Andrew Napolitano, as the three reacted to Sebelius’ new directives for insurance companies. “This is exactly a reaction to a deep understanding among Democrats that [Obamacare] is a train wreck,” he said. “And it’s a panic reaction. As the judge said, this is utterly lawless. This now approaches banana republic lawlessness.
The Sexiest Man Alive is being enlisted to spice up Obamacare. Pop singer Adam Levine, who won the designation from People magazine last month, is among the celebrities who’ll be promoting enrollment in online health insurance exchanges as part of a social media campaign kicking off tomorrow. With enrollment totals behind administration projections after the botched start-up of the federal exchange, 17 state exchanges joined by an advocacy group are drawing on Obama administration allies in entertainment and sports to promote sign-ups, using social media such as Facebook and Twitter. Reprising a tactic President Barack Obama successfully employed in his 2012 re-election, organizers
Mike Huckabee today ended his daily radio show heard on 200 stations across the nation, the first obvious sign that he is considering another presidential bid in what is shaping up to be a jammed 2016 GOP primary. He has hosted the “Mike Huckabee Show” on Cumulus Media since April 2012, but said that it takes up to nine hours a day to prepare. “As for the new endeavors, at this time, it would best for me to say, ?Stay tuned!´" he wrote on his Facebook page. Supporters won´t have to wait long. On Friday, he is participating in a “Pastors and
A South African government minister has said that "a mistake happened" in the hiring of a sign language interpreter accused of gesticulating nonsense during the Nelson Mandela memorial service. Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu said that officials have tried to track down the company that provided Thamsanqa Jantjie but that the owners "have vanished into thin air". Earlier on Thursday Jantjie claimed he is qualified but was hallucinating and hearing voices and said he is receiving treatment for schizophrenia. Millions of TV viewers saw Jantjie interpreting speeches by Barack Obama and other global leaders at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg. His gestures baffled and angered deaf
