During the highly publicized exchange between Bill O´Reilly and Laura Ingraham on gay marriage, O´Reilly made this statement: "There are Bible thumpers, and all they do is say, ´I object to gay marriage because God objects to it.´ You don´t win a policy debate in America with that." Really? Before central control out of Washington was imposed in 2003, policy arguments for criminalizing homosexual acts were won explicitly "with that." And because of "that," the idea of gay marriage has been unthinkable throughout the history of the American nation.
It´s pretty amusing watching this all play out. The gay ´activist´ scenario basically antagonized the APA into removing ´gay´ from the DSM-II in the early 70´s - and pretty much every ´advance´ since then has resulted from the same thing - gay activists antagonizing people who don´t believe as they do.
And O´Reilly does miss the point - perhaps he should inform his viewers what the ´gay lobby´ has done to American children over the last dozen years of preaching ´Normal and Healthy!´ to captive grammar school kids, indoctrinating them with garbage advice - to the tune of (currently) 1000 new cases of HIV in 12-21 year old males *monthly* - the only demographic where HIV is still on the upswing.
We´re basically just watching mental health issues ´normalized´ in this country at this point.
BOR misses the point by a mile. Has he not considered why a society should care about the sexual practices of its members, other than for religious reasons? What is as stake for a society to encourage and certify heterosexual unions, as has been the case since ancient times? Is it not to ensure it can continue to exist by producing new healthy and productive members, and stable social units (families). This is why all societies in the past (including pagan ones, which did not eschew homosexual relations) promoted and protected heterosexual marriage as the cornerstone of their social structure. Surely O´Reilly as a former history teacher should know this.
Guess Mr. Bill never heard of Martin Luther King, Jr., who marched and demanded equality for blacks while referring to and quoting what God and his justice as presented in His word, the Bible, demand. In other words, our public policy should be based on unchanging truths and righteousness, not on the whims of the day. I can´t imagine a situation where doing what is right will counter what the Bible says! In this case, it affirms that same sex relations are wrong.
Does the institution of marriage, which evolved from the dawn of man, in order to socialize children and self regulate sexual activity, pre-date its religious formalities? Yes or no. If yes, then the institution can be firmly defended as a bedrock of culture and civilization; w/o the need for quotations from the Bible, as worthy as they are. Formal religion, due to multiple self inflicted woulds, is held in low esteem by many. Using it to make the case against homosexual ´marriage´ is a weak reed and a mistake. And O´Reilly is indeed a moron.
The Bible set out the laws for living, and there were ten commandments as well as numerous other cautionary statements and illustrations by metaphor on how to do this. The dangers of deliberately ignoring God´s laws are all around us unfortunately as man sets himself over God. Marriage is primarily for the procreation of the species and as such should be protected. Sinfully ignoring this brings a terrible result, the physical body breaks down to match the break down of moral laws.
This silly little man misses the point. America is NOT a theocracy. If you want that move to Iran or Saudi Arabia where nobody can *violate* what their good book says.
This is America where people are free to do what others consider sin. The Catholic believe that divorce and adultey and pre-marital sex are sins - but people are free to do them.
This argument was lost a long time ago. O Reilly is right. People who want to force others to live by their beliefs or their religion or their morality are immoral! It is about freedom in America and those who are attempting to abolish free will are the true sinners here.
Is O´Reilly homosexual or bisexual? We learned a few years ago he likes to talk dirty on the telephone, but his opposition to what Laura Ingraham said makes me wonder if he is intimately familiar with the practices of homosexuals.
What if everything has a moral context? What if wisdom and discernment and every word in every sentence, in order to make sense, have a moral context? What if sanity itself has a moral context? So that when you try to look "fair" and "amoral" and think you can look out for everyone, including the rich bubble of the hour, your circle of "strange" and narcissist luftmenschen who do not have a controlling legal authority and do not want one -- maybe it is your side that is one dimensional. Is it better to be fair, or to be stupid? Is their a moral context for "stupid" vs. "ignorant"? "Stupid" is a stubborn schlimiel who will finally ruin a country by championing 50 equal and polyamorous internationalist moralities under one big tent, unprincipled social contract, for fairness sake -- then realize he will have to get the folks to champion the need for something like sharia law to guide all men back to the ability to make sense based on "something." "Stupid" goes forward with no vision towards the brave new world of transformed morality. Can you possibly understand this, or do you really "know not what you do?" PS -- the Army Training Manual just called Christian evangelists "extremists like Al Qiadda". Any vision of where this is going?
I love how arguments against same sex marriage always reference what God wants, as though anyone knows. I would think that if God disapproved of homosexuality it wouldn´t exist. Of course, that´s assuming that God gives a rat´s keister about this blue dot at all.
Stop dragging "God´s will" into it and stand on your own feet. You don´t like homos. Great. Don´t marry one.
Have you noticed that from the start this administration has made it their goal to change the definitions of things or to rename things? Their current cause is the definition of marriage. So what will they choose next? Oh yes, no more illegal immigrant. They believe if they change the words they can more easily control the conversation. And guess what? It´s working.
How much in actual health care could have been paid for with the taxpayer amounts currently being spent on developing websites for people to sign up for health insurance plans they aren´t happy with?. Consider Oregon. According to the most recent numbers from the Kaiser Foundation the average cost of one day of in patient hospital care in Oregon was $2,967. Oregon has 36 hospitals with a total of 5916 beds, $300 million in state and federal funds used for Oregon to build its website. would pay for 101,112 days of hospitalization - enough to fill every hospital bed in Oregon
The liberal media starts to take the measure of a media figure they must be afraid of. Make that very, very afraid. Dan Zak of the Washington Post has a long and interesting article on Megyn Kelly, whose new show on Fox News Channel has become a major hit (snip)My gut instinct tells me that a media career, however successful, will not be the end point of Megyn Kelly´s professional achievement. In fact, I faintly recall that once upon a time there was a media figure with incredible charisma, intensity, and likability who decided that the nation needed conservative politics
The introduction of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), as revealed by the roll-out of HealthCare.gov, is an epic public embarrassment, living up to predictions of a train wreck. We´re watching government at its most harmful and ineffectual. This is not rocket science -- no risky new technology is required; no laws of physics have to be invented or repealed. While the technology itself may present some challenges, problems like this more often than not stem from poor leadership, discipline, and accountability. We were privileged to spend our careers on a team responsible for the Aegis Combat System, a complex, mission
ObamaCare has as its modus operandi a focus on medical management by already beleaguered primary care physicians and para-health professionals, at the expense of medical and surgical specialists. The law´s administrators hope to control costs by cutting already bare-bones specialty physician payments, limiting medical technology and access to imaging, and instituting de facto health care rationing. Medicine has been increasingly high-tech and more specialist-oriented, resulting in better, albeit more expensive, care. To cut expenses, ObamaCare is naïvely turning to an outmoded model of health care delivery -- one that has been shown to have comparatively poor patient outcomes.
One of the most startling revelations of late was that Congress has not seen the videos made by the Predator/Reaper remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) that were flying during that event we now call Benghazigate. This detail is one of many arising from the recent classified hearings held by the House Intelligence Committee in which five eye-witnesses to the event gave testimony for the first time (snip) The key point of the revelation is that not just that audio and video tapes of those events exist; that audio and video record was available to multiple command centers, commanders, and decision makers in
It isn´t my intention to compare and contrast the performances of Julie Andrews and Carrie Underwood, both of whom sang the lead role of Maria in The Sound of Music. (snip) The Sound of Music reveals the culture shock that typified the sixties. During that time there was a titanic wrestling match between traditional America and radical America. For the time being, it appears the radical version of our country has prevailed. I watched both the staged and on-screen versions. I honestly felt I may as well have been watching a musical about medieval England. The story seemed as far removed
The political collapse of Barack Obama continues apace, with his own allies in the Democratic Party starting to give up on him. Now comes news that Obamacare supporters outside the party have decided to take matters in their own hands, rather than rely on the White House to sell Obamacare. Noam N. Levey and Kathleen Hennessey of the Los Angeles Times report: As supporters of the Affordable Care Act brace for new headaches next year, many have concluded they cannot count on the Obama administration, whose efforts to explain and promote the law are increasingly viewed as poorly planned, unreliable and
The old media won´t tell you so, but President Obama is facing a revolt from within his own political party. It was bound to happen once the dimensions of the ObamaCare disaster started to become obvious. Yesterday, I pointed out that Charles Rangel is an early indicator of the discontent bubbling beneath the surface, and that he is freer to speak than non-black Democrats. But today we have another leading indicator. (snip)Rosslyn Smith points out: "If Obama has lost Gergen, he´s lost the entire DC establishment. Gergen is almost the perfect indicator of the conventional wisdom inside the beltway.
MSNBC is the gift that keeps on giving, serving up propaganda intended to benefit the far left, but which in its absurdity repels people grounded in reality. Now, one of its hosts, Melissa Harris-Perry, already familiar to AT readers for her theater of the absurd political performance art, has played a race card so bizarre that it self-discredits. (snip) "I want to talk today about a controversial word. It´s a word that has been with us for years. And like it or not, it´s indelibly printed in the pages of American history. A word that was originally intended as a
Like communism, the collapse of the Obama Administration agenda is inevitable, not solely as a result of its many flawed policies, but because it lacks an ethical dimension in regard to individual rights, justifiable criteria for its use of state coercion and, in particular, a respect for the truth. Stated simply, Obama lies because the true objectives of his fundamental transformation of the United States are incompatible with American democracy and tradition. (snip) The arrogance and mendacity of the Obama White House is directly proportional to misplaced political loyalty and a submissive and willfully blind press.
By now, the news has spread online of the IRS audit notices sent to two Obamacare whistleblowers. On November 25th, cancer victim Bill Elliott and C. Steven Tucker were informed of the ordeal each was to face. Elliott has been waging a pitched battle with cancer. Tucker is the insurance agent and healthcare freedom activist who informed him that the canceling of his insurance, wrought by the Obama administration for the sake pushing citizens into Obamacare, was illegal. Tucker reached out immediately after Elliott appeared on Fox News´ The Kelly File, Nov. 7th, and Elliott´s insurance was hastily reinstated.
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
President Obama’s job approval among American voters has dropped to negative territory with just 38 percent voicing their approval versus the 58 who says they disapprove, according to a national poll released Tuesday by the independent Quinnipiac University. That is one percent less than the 39% who said they approved of him in last month’s poll. The majority of the 2,692 registered voters the University in early December said that the president is not honest and trustworthy. When asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as President?,” respondents gave Obama lackluster ratings
Looks like this president can’t get away with flirting in front of his wife… It appears that first lady Michelle Obama was none too pleased with the way that President Barack Obama was acting toward Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during a ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela, and before too long, they switched seats. The sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela´s memorial yesterday "made up his own signs," according to South Africa´s deaf federation. "He´s a complete fraud," Cara Loening, director of Sign Language Education and Development in Cape Town, said according to ITV News. "He wasn´t even doing anything, There was not one sign there. Nothing. He was literally flapping his arms around." Delphin Hlungwane, an official South African sign language interpreter at DeafSA, told Reuters:
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
