WINSTON-SALEM, NC - A local church has elected to stop performing marriage ceremonies for straight couples until same-sex marriage is legalized. In a statement posted on the front page of their website, officials at the Green Street United Methodist Church said that they ask other churches to join in the movement to “refuse to sign any State marriage licenses until this right is granted to same- sex couples.” Source corrected by Staff

As an active member of the UMC, this is so hard. Stay and work for the Lord, or shake the dirt off my sandels and move on. Very very tough decision. I can guarantee I will know for sure in 4 years, next General Conference.
I have the utmost respect for the original doctrines of Methodism, and I´ve known wonderful ministers of that denomination, but it must be becoming clear, that all Christians must turn their backs on these modern and fashionable churches that are putting their politics before true religion and morality. Remain Protestant, but follow the Pope´s lead in standing steadfast for the revealed truth of Christian life.
No doubts why Jesus hates the Nicolaitans as examplified by this adulterous UMC congregation. She has turned her back to her Lord & embraced a different lord. I pray that all true believers in that congregation will leave that abomination to escape the judgement that is coming.
I knew a gay reverend who wouldn´t perform any marriage ceremonies because he didn´t want to sign a government form to make it official. I admired him and his logic.
He would probably perform symbolic, same-sex weddings in states where it´s not legal, though. But I am in complete agreement that the government acknowledging "marriage" and requiring a member of the clergy perform the ceremony (or some other official of their choosing) is not appropriate.
Are the crucifixes hung upside down? Do they read the Our Father from end to beginning? To stop performing a ceremony that is accepted as beneficial to society because courts won´t force the rest of us to accept gay marriage is just spiteful and sinful. This is like a parent telling the children that none of them can eat until Johnny finishes dessert.
I KNEW the ass-press had to be involved in this banging of the deviant drum because thats what the lefty enemedia indoctrinators try to cram down our throats every damn day....."same-sex" marriage or copulation is deviance and this church should be ashamed..but then again, liberals HAVE NO SHAME!! The new Pope has gone on record as saying that same-sex marriage is THE FATHER OF ALL LIES...and to that I say...AMEN!
The statement ´sacrament of marriage´ is incorrect. In the United Methodist church, there are only two sacraments: baptism, and Holy Communion. Marriage ceremony is not a sacrament. So if this statement is on their website, they don´t know what they´re talking about.
Not sure why #9 would have trouble with this. Leaving a church and all the friends would be difficult. However, God has specific rules for our behaviour and a really big one is being against gay marriage. Sometimes a Christian has to stand up for their beliefs and it can be hard sometimes.
I apologize for my additional post, but I must answer: this church is one local church out of thousands and thousands. The larger church is very divided on this issue. My own local church is fairly conservative with a pastor I know would never officiate a same-sex wedding, ever. I have no difficulty being in my local church whatsoever. The issue is the larger church and the structure that allows local churches and bishops to openly defy UMC doctrine without consequence.
The UMC proper meets at General Conference every 4 years; this past meeting, in 2012, as happens every time, the proposal to eliminate the principle of the UMC that ´homosexuality is incompatible with Christianity´ was introduced, and it was voted down. Not by large enough margin, but it was once again voted down. That is what this local NC church is protesting.

The UMC resigned from GOD long ago . It started with demands for money instead of accepting what the members could offer. Isn´t it interesting that Mormon clergy don´t expect the members to support them financially.
I am also a traditional Methodist in a conservative, rural church. Our congregation was told that homosexual pastors would have been approved if not for the votes of the African members of the conference.
We are moving to an area that has no Methodist church, so my decision will be made for me as whether to stay a Methodist.
An example of sin making you stupid: WE will make all people live in sin unless the STATE approves of a particular kind of sin. All for the sake of equal rights of course. My the King of Lies and discord is so happy!
BY the way, this same groups should swear off using a bolt made up of one single screw and one single nut, until the state legislates that two nuts on their own or two screws on their own can perform the same function as a bolt.
PS The state has absolutely no interest in any sexual union/relationship which does not have the capacity or the will to produce children solely within that relationship. All other matters concerning that relationships can be settled by by legally enforcible contracts and Powers of Attorney.
White House press secretary Jay Carney declined to say whether President Obama was specifically told in April that the launch of HealthCare.gov faced serious problems. A federally-commissioned review by McKinsey & Co. concluded in late March that the online enrollment system was risky because the design process was flawed, The Washington Post first reported Monday night. Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Carney said, "The president received regular briefings on various aspects of implementing the [health care law], including the recommendations from this review and the steps that [agencies] had taken to address those recommendations."
The new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds President Obama’s approval rating is at an all-time low (42 percent). Opposition to the Affordable Care Act is at an all-time high (57 percent). And by a margin of nearly two-to-one, those surveyed oppose an individual mandate. There’s also this: for the first time in Obama’s presidency, a majority of Americans say they have an unfavorable impression of him (52 percent). Half or more of those surveyed say he is not a strong leader, he doesn’t understand the problems of “people like you,” and he’s not honest or trustworthy. There’s more data to
We received the letter in the mail a couple months ago. The good people at Regence Bluecross Blueshield were pleased to inform us that due to Obamacare our current low-monthly premium, comically-high deductible medical policy would no longer exist come January 1, 2014. Pleased, because a new and better plan would be offered in its place. Old monthly premium: $578 for a family of four (non-smoking, helmet-wearing, and paternally snipped). New premium: $1,123. A 94% increase. Once the sound of boiling blood dissipated, in my head I heard my Republican friends chuckling at the sight of a liberal Democrat hoisted ten
Incompetence, deception and lack of accountability doomed the Obamacare rollout. That´s old news. What´s new? The nagging durability of the White House´s incompetence, deception and lack of accountability. 1. The Washington Post reported on Sunday that the Obama administration will consider the new online marketplace a success if 80 percent of users can buy health insurance. That is absurd. First, it´s another broken promise. The president and his advisers responded to the disastrous rollout last month by vowing to deliver an Amazon.com-quality website by the end of November. (If history remembers President Obama for one thing, other than his barrier-breaking 2008
“Obamacare: Covering What Comes Next” is the title of a January 2014 seminar for journalists sponsored by the Poynter Institute and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. The seminar’s draft agenda includes a session on the “next shoes to drop” for Obamacare which seems illuminating. Let’s examine them in roughly chronological order: Where will the fraud show up first? Funny you should ask: it’s already here, both from websites fraudulently imitating government exchanges and from the so-called navigators for Obamacare. To the degree fraud becomes any sort of significant story, it will not be a political plus for the White House or
Navy SEALs are the toast of America, but revelations show that the top brass has not always watched their backs during the Obama administration. SEALs have brought exhilarating moments for the White House. The storied SEAL Team 6 killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan in 2011 and rescued U.S. cargo ship captain Richard Phillips from Somali pirates in 2009. Hollywood transformed both operations into blockbuster movies — with the administration’s help. But some in the special operations community cite shabby treatment. A book by Billy Vaughn, father of a SEAL killed in the Aug. 6, 2011, shootdown of a Chinook helicopter in Afghanistan,
“The Affordable Care Act’s political position has deteriorated dramatically over the last week.” That, coming from longtime Obamacare cheerleader and Washington Post blogger Ezra Klein, was pretty strong language. And it was only Wednesday. That was the day after the release of a devastating Quinnipiac national poll. It showed Barack Obama’s approval rating at 39 percent, with his disapproval rating at 54 percent — sharply down from 45 percent approval and 49 percent disapproval on Oct. 1, the day the government shutdown began and healthcare.gov went into (limited) operation. Democrats hoped that Republicans would take a shellacking in public opinion for the
As the story of the Obamacare website fiacso unfolds, senior administration aides tell me that the president is “mad, frustrated and angry.” Mad that his signature legislative achievement is stuck at the gate, frustrated that he’s running out of time to fix it, and angry that he’s got a second term agenda now going nowhere. He’s so furious, in fact, that he stepped out of character to vent to an assembled group of top aides. “If I had known [about the website problems] ,” the steaming president reportedly said, according to the New York Times, “We could have delayed the
WASHINGTON – The DC mayor fired his insurance commissioner the day after the official objected to President Obama’s move to delay health plan cancellations. DC Insurance Commissioner William White got his walking papers Friday from a deputy to Mayor Vincent Gray, who told him the mayor “wants to go in a different direction.” White told the Washington Post in Sunday’s edition that the timing couldn’t be ignored, although he said the deputy never mentioned his criticism of the president’s fix for the millions of people dropped from health plans because of ObamaCare.
In an ironic twist, Bill Clinton is now distancing himself from Obamacare. In an interview earlier this month, Bill Clinton told online magazine Ozy: I personally believe, even if it takes a change to the law, the president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they got. However, this is a far cry from Hillary Clinton’s previous support of Obamacare. As Professor Jacobson pointed out on Wednesday, Hillary was more pro-mandate than Obama. Now, likely in looking forward to the 2016 election, the Clintons have suddenly changed their tune. But with an established track record
An unknown political novice who has never visited Washington, D.C., won a special election for Louisiana´s 5th District seat Saturday on the endorsement of the “Duck Dynasty” family and a promise to fix Obamacare. Vance McAllister beat establishment candidate Neil Riser, a state senator, in Saturday´s runoff election created when former Rep. Rodney Alexander resigned on September 26 to become secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs under Republican Governor Bobby Jindal. He told local KNOE TV that “Washington may not be ready for me.” In the race, McAllister, a businessman in the Monroe, La., area, self-funded most of his campaign. He
Nearly 40 House Democrats defied President Obama and helped the Republican majority pass a bill Friday that lets Americans keep, for one year, health plans that do not comply with Obamacare. The defections from 39 members of Mr. Obama’s party highlighted the pressure on Congress to help people who lost coverage because of the president’s signature law, as balky websites keep a veil over alternative plans and pressure mounts on the Democrat-led Senate to forge a remedy.
In the home stretch of the 2012 presidential campaign, from August to September, the unemployment rate fell sharply — raising eyebrows from Wall Street to Washington. The decline — from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent in September — might not have been all it seemed. The numbers, according to a reliable source, were manipulated. And the Census Bureau, which does the unemployment survey, knew it. Just two years before the presidential election, the Census Bureau had caught an employee fabricating data that went into the unemployment report, which is one of the most closely watched measures of the economy. And a knowledgeable
The Times Of Israel is reporting that a team of negotiators led by White House adviser Valerie Jarrett has been conducting secret talks with Iran about it´s nuclear weapons program for the past year. The report states the deal submitted in Geneva earlier this month was a direct result of these secret year-long negotiations between teams headed by Jarrett and Iran´s Ali Akbar Salehi. That deal was ultimately rejected when France and Israel raised strong objections, and talks are expected to resume this Wednesday. The White House was very quick to issue a categorical denial of the report. According to
Barack Obama is the coolest president we’ve had since John F. Kennedy, at least according to conventional standards for such things. Obama has always been a brand as much as a politician, one that has been perceived as sleek, smart, and up to date. Then along came HealthCare.gov. Its failure to launch is a signal event in the long political battle over Obamacare and perhaps an inflection point in the president’s image. It’s hard to maintain a sense of truly being on the cutting edge of change when you can’t build a website. Obama’s cool was, in part, an artifact of world-class
Most women will tell you that other than the N-word, the C-word is the most vile in the English language never to be used. Cher apparently doesn´t hold such a belief, for she disturbingly took to Twitter Friday to call former Alaska governor Sarah Palin a "Dumb C Word": Cher ? @cher Follow Go to dictionary,& look up The “C"Word,....next 2 the definition...you’ll see a Pic of Sarah PALIN ! NO...WAIT ...SHES UNDER DUMB C WORD?? 12:11 PM - 15 Nov 2013 716 Retweets 834 favorites ReplyRetweetFavorite Three minutes later she put an exclamation point on it:
Carbohydrates are rotting our brains and contributing to devastating diseases such as Alzheimer’s, an American neurologist has warned. David Perlmutter, from Florida, believes that even ‘good’ carbs, such as grains, are severely affecting our brains. And the staples of our modern diet aren’t only increasing the risk of dementia, but contributing to depression, epilepsy and headaches, he believes. [Snip] The solution? Going back to the days when our diet was mainly fat--with this making up 75 percent of our diet, and carbs just 5 percent. Protein intake should stay the same as it is, at about 20 percent.
A downbeat President Barack Obama repeatedly asked his worried supporters Monday night to help resurrect his spirits, following weeks of political disasters and personal humiliations caused by the cascading collapse of Obamacare. The distracted president railed against opponents and at one point appeared to forget the number of people in the Obamacare system during the rambling quarter-hour address. “My main message is I’m going to need your help, your energy, your faith, your ability to reach out to neighbors, kids and friends [and] co-workers,” he told listeners to the Internet broadcast arranged by his grass-roots group, Organizing for Action. But his worried
WASHINGTON — Michelle Obama says she won’t wear shorts on Air Force One again because the one time she did, it created “a huge stink.”(snip)Mrs. Obama was asked about her biggest fashion regret. She said she’s always happy with her outfits but that, quote, “sometimes I forget I’m the first lady and I’m running around in shorts.” She recalled her family’s first White House vacation, to the Grand Canyon in August 2009. Mrs. Obama said her wearing shorts getting off the plane “created a huge stink because people were like, ‘she’s wearing shorts getting off of Air Force One.’” She said her thought
On Tuesday, President Barack Obama conceded that he will have to "remarket" and "rebrand" Obamacare as public confidence in him and the healthcare law he championed has plummeted. Speaking at the Wall Street Journal CEO Summit, Obama addressed the failures of the Obamacare rollout and said while he was confident that the healthcare model his administration built, which he claimed worked off of the "existing private insurance system," would succeed, the law would have to be rebranded. “We are going to have to obviously remarket and rebrand,” Obama said. “And that will be challenging in this political environment.” When he
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) says everyone should stop talking so much about the 2016 presidential race, because doing so hurts President Obama, who´s only a year into his second term. "In this sense, I feel badly for President Obama. He just won a year ago, and everybody´s like, ´So, who´s next?´" Christie said Monday night at the Wall Street Journal CEO Council. "There is work to be done in this country. And as we shove him out the door, we minimize his ability to be an effective executive. And we shouldn´t do that." Even as he urged people to focus
A day after his daughters´ spat over their disagreements on gay marriage spilled out messily into the public, former Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, released a statement urging that there not be a "distortion" of Liz Cheney´s views on the subject. The statement came a day after Mary Cheney and her wife, Heather Poe, blasted Liz Cheney, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Wyoming for her opposition to gay marriage. Here is Dick and Lynne Cheney´s full statement on the issue: "This is an issue we have dealt with privately for many years, and we are pained to see it
President Obama irked some conservatives with his recitation of the Gettysburg Address, which he read aloud as part of a project celebrating the 150th anniversary of famous Lincoln speech. For the project, spearheaded by documentarian Ken Burns, a number of politicians and other high-profile people recorded themselves reading the Gettysburg Address. However, Mr. Obama´s recording seems to be the only one that leaves the phrase "under God" out of a certain line. Some conservatives took offense to the president´s reading. "Lincoln added ´Under God´ as he was looking out over battlefield. why would obama remove?" Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on Twitter. Gettysburg
Secretary of State John Kerry told a climate change conference in Poland Monday that global warming is the biggest challenge to the world. “Fulfilling our responsibility to the future inhabitants of our planet is an ambitious goal, yes, but there isn´t a more important one out there right now,” he said in a video shown at the conference. Kerry also urged immediate action by world leaders to curb emissions. Climate change, he said, “is happening now.”
