Certainly, they all pretended they felt threatened and the major media played it for weeks as a White House assault on the freedom of the press. Appears a second person went public today as being threatened for criticizing the Obama Administration. No one in the WH is going to put a direct threat into an e-mail unless they are completely ignorant. A person knows when he/she is being threatened. The WH wants to shut down all opposition at any cost.

The CrapMedia, of which Woodward is part, created the nightmare that is Obama, so I don`t feel one bit sorry for any of them if they are stabbed in the back by this WH. In the absence of strong evidence to the contrary, it would seem most reasonable to take Bob Woodward at his word as to the actual or implied intent of the conversation and communications between him and Sperling. Second guessing him on the basis of an email would only be warranted if Woodward had a documented history of misunderstanding or misrepresenting matters in which he was personally involved. As far as I am aware, he has no such history. He was present and on the scene during the evidently heated exchange with Sperling that led to the latter´s apology. If Woodward says he felt threatened by the whole experience it is more than a little presumptuous to claim that he had no basis whatever for such an impression. I like Jonah Goldberg, but he is on thin ice with this issue.

If the proprietor of a private website doesn´t like what you have to say, he or she is free to ban you from posting. Or chastise you. I seem to be out of the loop on this thread. I am not really sure what the beef is or who has it. Is someone, i.e. me, attacking Jonah Goldberg? I am not aware of doing so. But as a matter of principle, is attacking Jonah Goldberg verboten? Is disagreeing with him about something the same as attacking him? Does zero tolerance mean no disagreement with him about anything, ever?

My point was that, all things considered, Bob Woodward would seem to be in the best position to know whether he was or should have felt threatened by Sperling. I don´t really see how someone who wasn´t there, did not engage in the heated discussions etc. would be in a position to appreciate and integrate the total picture. I don´t think a single email would be sufficient to capture the mood and the subtleties. Now, if it is a known, proven fact that Bob Woodward is a liar, if he has been documented to exaggerate, fabricate or misrepresent facts, then obviously there would be grounds to question his account. There may be such proof - I really do not know that much about him, but I am not aware that, unlike Obama et al., he is a documented dissembler.

Bob Woodward, whatever we think of him, has been around for a long time. Whether or not he felt "threatened" (and that isn´t our prerogative to judge), he did have the integrity to expose 0bama´s lies this time. I´ll give credit where credit is due. And who knows, perhaps other "reporters" will follow suit, because Woodward surely isn´t alone.
