White House Stats on Childhood
Obesity Decline Pre-Date ‘Let´s Move’

Weekly Standard, by Jeryl Bier

First Lady Michelle Obama is continuing her road trip celebrating the 3rd anniversary of her “Let´s Move” initiative, appearing on Good Morning America with Robin Roberts on Tuesday and at an event with Rachael Ray on Wednesday. The initial press release last week gave “Let´s Move” credit for halting and even reversing the childhood obesity trend of the last thirty years, though the White House did not provide data to back up its claim. Now, a new White House press release links to a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation report to bolster its claims, but

No! I can´t believe the White House would lie. s/o That´s all they do about everything. It would be surprising if we have ever heard a word of truth out of them.

No, why would this white house back up its claim? And if you show a .01% increase in GDP, they do not have to admit we are in recession.

I predict that Michelle will receive the nobel prize in medicine or peace, for the let´s move campaign. And the award will happen in 2015, as she prepares to run for office. Seriously.
And Hillary may very well receive the nobel prize in something or another (probably peace, since that comes out of Oslo) for her brilliant achievements as secretary of state. But that award will take place after the 2016 presidential election.

Why are there no good choices? From Crimea to North Korea, from Syria to Egypt, and from Iraq to Afghanistan, America apparently has no good options. If possession is nine-tenths of the law, Russia owns Crimea and all we can do is sanction and disinvite—and wring our hands. Iran is following North Korea´s nuclear path, but it seems that we can only entreat Iran to sign the same kind of agreement North Korea once signed, undoubtedly with the same result. Our tough talk about a red line in Syria prompted Vladimir Putin´s sleight of hand, leaving the chemicals and killings much as

The Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration said Friday it plans to give up control over the body that manages Internet names and addresses. The action means that the U.S. government will relinquish its oversight of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN, which manages a number of technical functions that help computers locate the correct servers and websites. Here are some basics of what’s happening. What is ICANN? It is the nonprofit organization that’s in charge of handing out domain names and Web addresses for the entire Internet. They’ve been handling those duties since 1998.

“I think we’re in for a tsunami-type election in 2014,” Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus told the audience at Tuesday morning’s Christian Science Monitor breakfast in Washington, D.C. Looking ahead to this fall’s midterm elections, Priebus boldly predicted big gains for the GOP, especially in the Senate. ”My belief is, it’s going to be a very big win, especially at the U.S. Senate level, and we may add some seats in congressional races,” Priebus predicted. “But I need to and we need to at the RNC make sure that we can capture the positives and the benefits we’ve been

A dearth of useful radar data in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has exposed both the weaknesses of regional air-defense systems and also a deep-seated reluctance to share military information. While Malaysia´s air force has drawn ire for its failure to track Flight 370 effectively in the early hours of March 8, military and aviation analysts say that other Asian countries have similar deficiencies. They also say that governments continue to view one another with suspicion in a part of the world characterized by historical tensions that make countries disinclined to share military data,

It´s Sunshine Week, so perhaps some enterprising White House reporter will ask press secretary Jay Carney why President Obama rewrote the Freedom of Information Act without telling the rest of America. The rewrite came in an April 15, 2009, memo from then-White House Counsel Greg Craig instructing the executive branch to let White House officials review any documents sought by FOIA requestors that involved "White House equities." That phrase is nowhere to be found in the FOIA, yet the Obama White House effectively amended the law to create a new exception to justify keeping public documents locked away from the public. A

WASHINGTON – Faced with calls for a swift and stern reaction to Russia´s threatened annexation of Crimea, President Obama wielded his executive pen Monday morning, slapping seven in Vladimir Putin´s inner circle -- but not the Russian president himself -- with sanctions freezing their U.S. assets. But almost immediately, some criticized Obama´s response as not being enough to change Putin´s course. With Crimea voting Sunday to break off from Ukraine, Russia is poised to potentially annex the disputed peninsula -- and freezing U.S. assets of Putin cronies and barring them from traveling to the U.S. may have limited effect. Thanks to Obamacare, Democrats just lost a special election in a Florida House district that President Obama won in 2012. So what do you think vulnerable Democrats in states and districts Obama lost in 2012 are thinking today? The problem is Democrats can’t run from Obama or Obamacare. Yes, the president is electoral kryptonite in 2014. But Democrats are caught in the Obama trap — unable to either embrace or repudiate their unpopular president and his unpopular health law. This is precisely the position vulnerable Republicans were in during the 2006 midterm elections, when Democrats retook control of Congress thanks to George W. Bush’s sinking poll numbers. Like

The nomination has drawn heckles from gun rights advocates. President Obama on Monday slapped Russia with the kinds of economic sanctions not seen since the Cold War, but the administration’s supposed hard line was met with mockery and a “collective shrug” in Moscow, Kiev and Washington. One day after Crimeans voted overwhelmingly to secede from Ukraine and join Russia, the White House and its partners in the European Union responded by targeting high-ranking officials in Moscow along with pro-Russian figures responsible for the unrest in Ukraine. The move adds even more tension to a dramatic standoff between Russia and the West, but early signs suggest the latest round of

Hillary Clinton may well be the most "known" politician in the world. She and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have been on the national stage for more than two decades -- traveling from Arkansas to the White House to the Senate to the 2008 campaign trail and finally to the State Department. During that time, every look and utterance from Hillary has been examined, then examined again, then analyzed, then overanalyzed. That´s why this series of photos -- shot by LIFE magazine in 1969 as part of a feature on outstanding college students -- is so fascinating. It captures

One of our planes is missing. That’s basically all we know for certain right now, but more than a week after losing contact with flight MH370, there are a lot of other suggestive bits of information. Unfortunately, a lot of it is, as usual, being reported by news readers who barely understand that you don’t want to keep the pointy end aimed at the ground for an extended time. Here’s some things we do know now. The first indication of trouble was when the transponder stopped responding to radar. This is the point where newspeople are saying it “dropped off the radar,”
