| Yesterday, our California in Crisis series reported: California is controlled by the Democratic Party, and the California Democratic Party is controlled by the state’s government employee unions. You can’t win a statewide election there without at least the tacit approval of those unions. And for decades, the cost of their friendship has been protection from spending cuts in lean times and generous retirement package increases in good times. California actually has fewer state government employees per capita than the national average, but its employees are the best-paid in America. This often has a negative effect on government services.

Oakland illustrates the futility of passing taxes and bond measures to support police services at a certain level in a corrupt city. In every case, the level was reduced, so residents have caught on to the scam. Residents don´t bother calling police for less than homicide because the police are in triage and don´t respond to lesser crimes. This makes crime statistics appear much better than reality.

It is only representative of California to those who feel a need to diss California for whatever their reasons.
Big state, beautiful, great weather. A wonderful place to live except for the politicians. That part is true of many other states that don´t have the redeeming qualities.

RE #7: Sounds like Vermont. Beautiful state, good skiing if that is your thing, but the politicians are nutbags that have completely screwed things up for the average Joe. Taxes are through the roof, Ma and Pa Normal can´t afford to stay in their own homes because of property taxes, those just starting can´t afford new homes much less apartments, businesses are being taxed out of existence and the schools and roads are complete wrecks and what do the boneheads in Mont-peculiar worry about?? Socialized Healthcare!! Legalized Pot!! Kill Yourself Legally!! I can´t wait for the day I can scrape together the money to escape this lunatic assylum!!!

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell´s campaign has contacted the FBI after a recording of a private strategy meeting was published Tuesday in a liberal publication, claiming the campaign was the victim of "Watergate-style tactics" to bug the office. Several snippets of the audio from the February strategy sessions were published Tuesday by Mother Jones magazine, along with a lengthy article.
