| RUSH: Listen to this. This is from the AP, and they´re mad about this. The NRA has found a Justice Department memo, and they are using it to accuse the Obama administration of wanting to commandeer your guns. They are furious here in this AP story. "The National Rifle Association is using a Justice Department memo it obtained to argue in ads that the Obama [regime] believes its gun control plans won´t work unless the government seizes firearms and requires national gun registration..." Now, when everybody makes that accusation, what happens? I

AssPress is angry that the truth got out.
Be very clear that "universal background checks" is Phase One - where they get the information about EVERY gun being sold, traded or gifted in the country. After they have this information, they can set the bans in place and come and confiscate them.
We have to stop this "universal background check". For the first 194 years of this country´s existence, all guns other than machine guns were treated the same as a screwdriver or hammer - NO government involvement. Crime is DECREASING, largely because almost all states have some sort of reasonable concealed carry laws and more GOOD people than ever are going armed.
Stop the "universal background checks" which equals Universal Gun Registration.
45 years of federal gun dealers and background checks have done ZERO except cost gun owners money and inconvenience - the only time that crime inflected downward was when ´Shall Issue´ concealed carry laws started passing in state after state.

I wish Rush would spell out the story instead of being all over the place. I know he needs to use up his 3/hrs but give us who, what, where etc up front then ramble.
Meanwhile will any reporter at the networks or in a newspaper report this confiscation of guns memo? They will not or they will do what AP is doing.

This is the modus operandi of this administration. They float ideas like canceling medical coverage for vet returning from overseas, then when the screaming starts, say it was just an idea and not policy. Same with merging IRAs and Social Security and some sort of a carbon tax. Its revenue and they want it.

The Universal Background Check will lead to a national registry, which is the real goal. Next REASONABLE regulations will ensue to ban guns from small portions of the population, such as pick up the guns from anyone accused of domestic violence to protect women, then those accused of hate crimes to protect minorities, then those who schedule visits with a shrink to protect against mental health threats. Eventually then will get to a subset to take the guns in your house, come in the middle of the night and either just take your guns or arrest you for endangering the public.

At the beginning of every interview with lawmakers, the first question should be: did you take the Oath of Office freely and without mental reservation?
If they say yes, then demand that they uphold the Constitution, first and foremost and most important.
Insist that they recite the (in this case) Second Amendment... or read it from their copy (or lend them one) of the Constitution.
This may also serve to enlighten some of our uninformed fellow Citizens!
The Second Amendment, like the First, is very clear and succinct.
We´ve allowed Congress to make zillions of laws abridging First and Second Amendment Rights; we´ve allowed "opinion-makers" to do the same, without --at first-- the force of Law and then later, once public opinion has been molded and shaped and often cajoled (threatened), with codification in multifarious laws.
Our Constitution guarantees our Liberty. Every law that activist, busybody legislators make curtail Liberty.
Liberty demands responsible citizenry.
Congressmen need to HEAR from us. We need to call. on many other issues. we can´t allow fatigue to morph into apathy.
Fatigue and apathy are often the intended consequence of activist governments.
This far, and no farther.

Anyone who is accused of domestic violence or made subject to an order of protection is ALREADY relieved of their firearms. Ostensibly temporarily. Sometimes they even get them back.
I´ve been aware of this memo for more than ten days. I´ve sent excerpts to 80 Senators and about two dozen Congressmen.
Then called.
What are YOU doing besides complaining here?

I WILL NOT register anything. And. since I´m over 70, if I had a gun, I would have gotten it during the Kennedy administration, so no one in the government knows anything about it. That is, if I had one, of course.

No guns currently owned will have to be registered because no one knows who has what at this point. The problem that I have encountered recently is getting ammo for the guns we have. Everything is on back order for several months. This is how they will control legal gun owners.

I trust no one in government at any level. The local pols are no better than the ones in DC or anywhere else. How many times have you seen a politician take one side and then switch to the other. Gun control has been in the works for many years. We must not allow it to become law. Write, call and VOTE. Obozo and his crew are liars. They want nothing better that to take all guns from the public. At that point we become a nation of slaves. Vote 2014.

You want to know the real kicker? Criminals (or persons disallowed from owning firearms) cannot be compelled to register them because it violates their 5th Amendment right not to incriminate themselves (Haynes v. U.S., 1968).

In 1927, Jozef Stalin summoned the Russian neurologist Bekhterev to give a medical examination of the dictator. Later that day, Bekhterev returned to a medical meeting and told colleagues, "I have just examined a paranoiac with a short, dry hand." Stalin´s left arm was shorter and weaker than the other. The following day, Bekhterev was poisoned and died. He was killed for calling Stalin a "paranoiac." He did not mention Stalin by name, but his medical colleagues knew exactly whom he was talking about. Writing in European Neurology, the historian Juerg

Is the Constitution becoming the left´s new target? That thought struck me the other night over dinner with my liberal friend, a lawyer and part-time professor. Among his choice statements, "Maybe it´s time to get rid of the Constitution and start over." No doubt he was echoing the sentiments of Georgetown law professor, Louis Michael Seidman, who suggested just that in a New York Times op-ed. It´s been several weeks since Seidman made his remarks, and now, it appears, the floodgates are open. Liberals feel they can speak freely about their true intentions for our country.

For the first time in my adult life, I am not proud of the First Lady. Mrs. Obama is frequently compared to Marie Antoinette. She spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year on her own pleasure and aggrandizement while urging the peasants to plant gardens. And for the first time in American history, we have a president who insults us across the world, disavows the idea that American is special, enriches our enemies such as the Muslim Brotherhood, and degrades our achievements ("You didn´t build that."). Metaracism instilled in the Obamas the tragedy of ingratitude.

Obama now reigns over Versailles on the Potomac. And America´s taxpayers are the vassals who bankroll the opulence of King Louis-Barack and Michelle Antoinette." Deroy Murdock (Hoover Institute, Scripts Howard) nails it in his National Review article. King Louis-Barack and his family really know how to share your pain. The "we´re all in this together" seer of America´s hope and change takes our bucks and we keep the change. "Let them eat lentils" is Michelle Antoinette´s airy solution to her growing food-stamp constituency (is M-Antoinette embarrassed at the girth of her loyal cohort?).

The lousy March jobs report jolted financial markets Friday, and understandably so. In a trend that has defined this weakest of all modern economic recoveries, the jobless rate keeps falling but largely because the labor force keeps shrinking. The unemployment rate fell to a new four-year low of 7.6%, from 7.7% in February. Good news, except the main reason for the decline was that nearly half a million Americans (496,000) left the civilian labor force. They retired, quit working, went back to school or gave up looking for work. The economy created a net 88,000 new jobs

THE elementary-school shootings in Newtown, Conn., in December produced two polar public reactions: fear among some Americans that the federal government will restrict gun rights, and hope among others that it will actually do so. Colorado, New York State and, most recently, Connecticut have clamped down on guns, while states like Texas, where I live, are considering legislation that would try to block the enforcement of federal gun regulations. The uncertain approach to guns is good for no one, except perhaps for gunmakers, whose sales have skyrocketed. Lost in this confusion and anxiety is the possibility

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives revoked the license of Riverview Gun Sales in East Windsor, about 15 miles north of Hartford, on December 20, and the 60-day time frame to appeal has expired. The agency didn´t disclose why it revoked the license. ´It´s been revoked. It´s final at this point,´ is all ATF spokeswoman Deb Seifert would tell reporters. Politics: Democrats were quick to blame the anemic March jobs number on the "sequester" spending cuts. If that were the case, what explains the previous four years of lousy job growth under Obama? At 88,000, the jobs growth in March was well below expectations. And while the unemployment rate dropped, that was the result of hundreds of thousands dropping out of the labor force who as a result aren´t counted as unemployed. Democrats, of course, tried to pin the blame for this on Republicans for allegedly pushing austerity measures. White House economic adviser Alan Krueger complained

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that
